Evelyn Townsend is the friend your parents warned you about. She’s always jumping off bridges with reckless abandon. So when a reality show promises the opportunity to meet her perfect match, Evelyn is all in. There’s just one major catch … her soulmate will be picked by a panel of experts, and she doesn’t get to meet him until they are face to face at the end of the aisle.
Quincy Parrish has played it safe his entire life. When he steps way out of his comfort zone and auditions for a reality television show, he never expected to be picked. Quincy doesn’t believe in the concept of soulmates, and the chances this arranged marriage will work are slim to none. But he’s messed up his love life for the past thirty-five years. Maybe a group of experts can do a better job.
After the “I dos” comes the getting to know one another. Living together, meeting the family, and revealing secrets all while cameras follow their every move. Evelyn and Quincy can’t deny their chemistry, but can they get past the spectacle of the ever-present cameras and crew to find something real? A chance at love is better odds than nothing, even if that means falling in love while the whole world is watching.
- This book was so much fun to read!! If you like the show married at first sight, you HAVE to pick this book up because it literally felt like I was watching a movie while reading it. - The author did such an incredible job of balancing heavier topics with humor! I didn’t want to put this one down. - I just bought her newest book after reading this one and I’m already excited to pick it up! This was a fun and easy read. So fun!
Im so sad i didn’t love this one. I get what the author was trying to do, marriage is work but not necessarily work you would want to do with a stranger, which is what made it hard to like Quincy.
The miscommunication every 10 pages was infuriating. And it started so early on, literally the morning after they got married he said she was “asking stupid fucking questions” because she asked him if he was going to ask her age?! If it was me i would have called it off right there because sir i don’t know you, who are you talking to like that?! It was then just explained away as him being annoyed with the camera crew
He just had way too many red flags for this to be enjoyable I get it, marriage takes work but its work that you can be willing to put in for someone you know and love, not a stranger with communication issues and an ex girlfriend hanging around
"Love at first sight," "married at first sight," "love is blind," etc. All of these shows we’ve seen or heard of, but none of them top the newest Sight Unseen. Reality TV just got a little bit crazier as Evie and Quincy make their way down the altar to one another, but neither of them knows who awaits them.
Over the next 90 days, will they fall in love? Yes, they do, and it’s one of the best things that’s ever happened to either of them. Quincy is initially closed off, and rightfully so, even though I wish the author went more into Quincy's trust issues. She gives enough for the reader to understand. Evelyn is ready to go; she believes she’s met her match and is ready to do the work.
Through conflicts and endless lovemaking, the couple makes it past the 90 days, but not without exes and tears. Whew, but they made it work mostly because of communication. That is one way to make any relationship work, and especially when dealing with a complete stranger, you need that.
One thing I will say that made me rate this just a 4 star was the ending. Evie became the same person she wanted Quincy to stop being, almost too easily. It was very hypocritical and irritating to see how this played out. I’m glad they worked that out and pursued a relationship. I enjoyed this story and will be on the lookout for more books by the author.
Sight Unseen follows Quincy & Evelyn, who decides to take a risk at marrying their perfect match…sight unseen! They are matched for a reality tv show and do not meet each other until their wedding day! For 90 days these strangers must get to know one another, live together, and meet family, all while a camera crew tags along.
I may have watched a season or two of Ready to Love but I’m not a fan of Reality TV…but this one right here, I was instantly interested and would have loved to watch Quincy & Evie 90 days of marriage.
This read had me anxious from the beginning. As if I was at this wedding trying to see what this man or woman look like that my family member was about to say I Do to.
I laughed, smiled, and talked to myself the whole way through. I also wanted to fight but I was able to pull it back and smile again.
i truly was on the edge of my seat wondering how the author was going to pull out this HEA, and wow she nailed it!!
Evelyn & Quincy get married at first sight after they both randomly sign onto a reality show called Why Knot. Evelyn has failed at love, and is hoping to find her soulmate. Quincy, a former foster kid, agrees on a lark but is absolutely captivated by his beautiful bride immediately.
What starts as a fairy tale soon becomes rocky as they both try to mesh their disparate lives (Quincy, a buttoned up lawyer; Evelyn a free wheeling artist). Their communication styles and former traumas all serve up mess, but both are absolutely smitten and scared to be the first to say so.
Gosh i ate this up. i'm a big reality tv show fan (Love is Blind!! hell yes!) so this fit the bill for me. I was also thrilled to get recommended a romance that wasn't a baking reality show (i've had a bit of my fill of those tbh), and this just hit right. Absolutely delicious spicy scenes and two characters who you will both root for!
thank you to a fellow romance reader (funmi) for the rec!
I’ve been on a reality tv romance kick lately! Sight Unseen follows the same premise as the TV show, Married at First Sight. Quincy and Evelyn meet for the first time at the altar. They have to learn each other, live together, and figure out what made the experts think they were a perfect match. They certainly weren’t lacking in physical chemistry🥵.
I enjoyed watching them open up to each other! Quincy had a rough childhood. He has a hard time accepting love and new people into his circle. Evelyn is his opposite, who loves too hard and is a free spirit. They balanced each other perfectly. My favorite part was watching them navigate disagreements and the less than glamorous things they learned about each other as the weeks went on.
The only thing thing that could’ve made this a five star read was an editor. There were way too many noticeable typos/grammar errors (just one example, the word “recognize” was spelled “recoqinize”). The amount of run on sentences messed with the flow of some chapters. Also, I think there needed to be more clear transitions between certain scenes because it was confusing as to what was happening sometimes.
Other than that, this was a fun read and I can’t wait to see what the author writes next!
TROPES: black romance/BIPOC/OWN voices; married at first sight; strangers to lovers; forced proximity; hero with emotional trauma; found family
TRIGGER WARNINGS: mentions of foster care and domestic abuse
The first few chapters hooked me and I was all in with the characters, the scenario, the humor, all of it. Unfortunately, that started declining as the story progressed. There were just so many inconsistencies, a lot of flip-flopping (like Quincy stating his feelings to Evelyn then mere paragraphs later, denying them to Walt). His refusal to block Victoria and his reasoning as to why made no sense (to me). I LOVED Evelyn and Quincy at first but by the end, I was over both of them. Some of the conflict was super understandable but some felt forced. And instead of a couple of the (many) sex scenes, it would've been cool to see Evelyn in her painting element or them doing their personal confessionals; a lot was just skimmed over that I felt would've given the story some more depth. Their relationship seemed to be mostly jokes, sex, and miscommunication, despite the chemistry I felt they had. And there were editing slights throughout, which weren't abominable but were noticeable.
But I will say that I LOVED Walt. He was hands-down my favorite character in this. I wonder what came of him and Meryl (if anything).
This was my first read from this author and I absolutely plan on reading more.
This was a quick nice read, Evelyn annoyed me sometimes and the miscommunication trope was so annoying as it happened more than once. The concept of the book is cute, it did make me laugh out loud sometimes
Such a fun and cute read! Definitely gave me Married At First Sight vibes, but I really enjoyed it. Both Evelyn and Quincy got on my nerves at times 🤣 but I still recommend for a quick, cute read with a few heavier topics. Looking forward to reading more books by Kasha Thompson.
As a lover of shows like Married At First Sight and Love is Blind, I knew this book would be for me and it did not disappoint! And the audiobook was chefs kiss, 💋. I enjoyed every bit of this story but I have to say, me and Evie were not friends with that stunt she pulled at decision day- but I digress. So good!
“𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝, 𝐬𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲?“ Reading Sight Unseen was = the lyrics, “drifing on a memory, aint no place I’d rather be than with you, loving you” on a sunny day with a glass of sweet tea ☺️ But first, why isn’t the title Why Knot? It’s so cute & catchy, and the name of the reality show. I just found my book boyfriend, book bae/best book male MC ever!!! Quincy was enough, all on his own to make this a 5⭐️ read! He was everything; he was such a great, compassionate, handsome, caring and strong man, without the unicorn effect of many MCs in romance novels. I kinda went all over the place with my feelings about this book. I went from loving it, to being so turned off by Evelyn, the FMC, to being giddy… from chapter to chapter. But, Quincy! There were also many great things that I seek in romance that the author delivered. It was hilarious, especially Evan and how Evelyn/Quincy ranked on him during Thanksgiving dinner. Or, when E’s friend asked, “You hit him with the jerk and slurp, didn’t you?” 😸 There were so many tender, sweet loving moments where I felt like Evelyn was his missing puzzle piece and everything that he needed. It’s easy for me to get wrapped up in dating show/arranged marriage storylines because I love love, and I love reality wedding shows. I feel this story truly characterizes how a couple who’s really looking for love would feel going into a marital experiment. Feelings of excitement, nervousness, fear, dread… all of those emotions were so perfectly captured here. The attraction/chemistry was through the roof, the sex scenes were fiya, the sweet gestures were top notch. I did start to skim after the 4th sex scene. Here are some quotes that stood out… Mr. Otis: “Back in my day a man would just walk up to a woman and start a conversation. Young fellas nowadays are soft, too afraid of rejection.” #indiespinesreadathon
I loved this take on the reality show Married at First Sight!! I watched the first 1-2 seasons and actually enjoyed it. This story is about Quincy and Evelyn and their choice to get married “Sight Unseen”. Let me just say I LOVEDDDDD this book. Ate it up in 3 days!! When have been done sooner but both jobs got in the way 🙄🙄🙄 this book was EASILY a 5 ⭐️ read for me until about 85-90% in. When you read it you will know why I say that. I will definitely be reading more from this author as this was my first from her! Great job sis! 👏🏽
I read the kindle book the first time and listened to the audio book this time and I still loved it. If you are a fan of Married at First sight, you’ll enjoy this book.
Evelyn is an artist. She’s a free spirit who believes in jumping off the cliff and living life, but is insecure when it comes to love. Quincy is a lawyer who grew up in foster care and protects his heart and avoids confrontation, but desires real love.
They were picked to be married on the Why Knot reality show. They meet at the alter and the chemistry is instant, but will they make it through the 90 day experiment and stay together.
I wish the MAFS was like this book. I loved their story, but Evelyn worked my nerves in the last few chapters.
3.75 ⭐️ I’m a fan of Married at First Sight and this was exactly like watching a season of the show (with one of the low drama couples). It was a cute, easy read. I enjoyed the chemistry between Quincy and Evelyn.
Ooohhhweee!!! I really enjoyed this book! Now there were a few times that I wanted to knock Quincy and Evelyn out! Victoria need someone to rattle her jaws 🙄! Because ma’am you ain’t even want him!
I liked this reality show off take on married at first sight. I watched that show the first season only. Although the idea was good, the story started to repeat too many times. I did not feel the earth-shattering, not even a remote connection. I was not convinced, but it was a nice try with this reality show spin-off.
I read other books by this author and I feel like this book is my favorite. I am a hug fan of Married at first sight so I really enjoy the plot of this book. I wanted to hug and protect Quincy because he went through so much in his childhood and his previous relationships. I couldn’t stand his ex girlfriend Victoria because of the way she handled their relationship. I love the fact that Quincy was so sweet and caring to the people in his circle. I did get upset with him towards the end of the book however, I understood his position with the text messages. I got mad at Evelyn with the living arrangement and not disclosing some things in her past however, I understood her position with no bringing it up. I love the fact that she got the healing she needed with her mom. Overall I really enjoyed this book especially the audiobook. This one will be in one of my top reads for the year.
Yes I did read this book in one day because I was so engaged. Yes I really enjoyed this story but…
See I’m not a huge fan of those reality shows where people look for love or agree to be married without knowing who they’re marrying. So that as the premise of this book intrigued me. Like how could it be written in such a way that you didn’t think the main characters were idiots and that you would root for them?
Meet Evelyn and Quincy the pair that agree to be married. The book starts on their wedding day and takes you through the first 3 months of their marriage. You’re on their journey of self exploration and learning to love each other. I loved everything about their journey until Decision Day.
Let me tell you why. Evelyn was full of life and dealt with every issue head on. The day before Decision Day Evelyn learns something and instead of asking Quincy the questions head on she punted. She went into a weird headspace that didn’t seem true to her character. This annoyed the f*ck out of me and almost ruined the book.
The only good thing was that Quincy and Evelyn got their HEA. Read this from Kindle Unlimited.
So this was not what I anticipated from a “My 90 day finance situation “ BUT LISTEN! It was absolutely amazing ! Omg ! It was so romantic and so sweet ! Well articulated ! It had me on the edge of my seat !
I’ve been binge watching Married At First Sight and this was very similar to that. I loved being able to get the POV of two participants of the reality show “Why Know”. Lol. Great read.
If you are a fan of Married at Fist Sight then you’ll love this book since that’s exactly what it is. I enjoyed this cutesy book. It had comedy and depth.
I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the author ❤️
This really gave me Married at First Sight but with more of a behind the scenes and I LOVED that. Unlike with the show though, I really felt like this couple could work lmao. Quincy and Evelyn complimented each other personalities. Quincy is more reserved and strategic in his thinking, while Evelyn has such a wild spirit. As time went on, you could see how they brought more out of each other/took each other outside of their comfort zones. The star deduction is from the ending. While I do think their arguments and situations are realistic, I was just getting annoyed with them both for not communicating! Things would go so well, then they would self-sabotage. Even with that, again I felt like I was watching a show because I would be just as frustrated watching tv like I was with this book 🤣 If reality tv is your jam, please check this book out.
5 Stars! This had me cheesing and from beginning to end. A nice palate cleanser between all the hardcore urban mafia and street romances. It was several point were Evelyn was pissin me off lol, but would she be a real black FMC if she didn’t piss you off? Quincy? Loved him from beginning to end. I thought he was gone mess it up quick in the beginning but he fixed it quick fast. He was scared to be hurt and wasn’t used to being loved on, but he found his stability and strength in Evelyn.
quick read, started off really cute and cheesy(but in a good way) but as it went on the miscommunication, the inability to actually express feelings and the back and forth and teenage egotistical ideas (from 30 year olds) got too much. I still think the good parts were good but it was a book about self sabotage and not actually knowing the person, just being sexually attracted to them
As a Married at First Sight girlie, I LOVED this book! The story of Quincy and Evelyn had me hooked. Reading this has me thinking of things from the reality casts point POV. I was stuck between 4 and 5 stars, but the fact that I’m still thinking about these two with this book says it all!
Loved this emotional and captivating story watching Quincy and Evelyn meet a difficult challenge on a Reality Show.
Is it really possible to marry someone you have never met, seen or spoken to? And in front of your family and friends? Because the camera crew follows you EVERYWHERE!!!!! Imagine the awful things your family would have to say. In addition, what happens when the 90 days are over?
As usual, there were way too many sex scenes, but at least this time, they didn't decimate the story!
I listened to this through Everand as a random selection. This was my first “marriage at first sight” book and although I was skeptical… I’m glad I saw it through. The FMC got on my last nerve with her lack of communication skills and high expectations for communication. I loved the MMC from the start ! I would recommend this book to others and I plan to read another book by this author.
Evelyn and Quincy took a chance at love marrying each other sight unseen. They both had a lot of baggage that they brought with them into the relationship. I was rooting for them because they both wanted the marriage but had a hard time navigating the relationship. Great book full of all the feelings.
I loved that in spite of the MCs meeting by being in a marriage reality show from the get go, the way they tried to know each other and communicate and resolve their differences was chef’s kiss.
Marriage was a bit idealized, I probably think this because I belong to this cult.
Great chemistry between the MCs, both are equally likable that is not as easy as we could think.
