BEST BOOK IN SERIES SO FAR: 9 OUT OF 10

Cursed Magic is the 3rd title in our Hunters versus very smart Demon Prince with more allies than we could ever think....
Cursed Magic as a title could very well still be hinting towards Shannon's magical imbalance and the fact she's currently growing in power without being able to control it (Note to self: never put on fancy looking amulets from a magic user), but I'm going to take that title and use it as an excuse for all the expletives I've said out loud while reading.

The good guys are royally [Cursed Magic] if they don't find a way to get ahead of The Game. In the 2nd novel we figured out that memories and feelings of the town had been altered in order to let Shannon flee Spirit Falls without anyone trying to retrieve her.

Cursed Magic goes a little deeper than that and slowly but surely we find out that others, surprising others, have been duped and spelled in a very specific way so that both Magic rulers as well as their security branch would be on unsteady ground, or unknowingly helping the enemy.

Every single time the team of Daryn and Shannon seems to have a lead that same lead fizzles out before their noses. The Demon King's progeny, the one pulling the strings for sure on earth, isn't just very intelligent. He is scary powerful with equally dangerous friends.

Cursed Magic begins to feel like a race against the clock. While our friends are fighting Demons and the Magic Council alike (power corrupts as always! ), a prophecy is apparently close to being lived out, without us knowing little more than that Shannon is obviously a huge part of it.

That same Shannon is still struggling with the discrepancies between her 'outcast' memories, and how the Hunters suddenly feel as a family. Not to mention the fact that she has had zero training and in a time of war isn't the lauded hero of the prophecy but a weak link in need of constant protection.

Her struggles are being felt as a reader without taking away from the always fast paced action. This is done really well, and it shows the writing style of Midlife Demons and Demigods. I'm beginning to understand that Didmon and Crawford aren't the type of writers to focus overmuch on the personal feelings and drama of the main characters - here at least - having you burst into tears or struggle along with the main character while they're coming to terms with their past, present and potential future.

While there's definitely plenty sadness, loss, trauma, as well as joy going on, the authors show us people's inner demons or happiness predominantly through the storyline. Using them as parts of the plot, rather than having more of a literary approach where the development of a person is tantamount.

It means that novels of the MDAD will (always?) be more focused on plot than on personal growth, but it doesn't take away from understanding and forming a bond with characters. It simply goes less deep than other Urban Fantasy series I've read.

My absolute favourite 5 star UF series (F.e. The Hollows, Kate Daniels, Mercy Thompson, Kara Gillian, Dresden Files) are usually relatively complex plot wise: each title has a specific issue to solve while everything else revolving around it is part of the "red thread", the main plot & story that continues as we read. I rarely, if ever, foresee what's about to happen, the magic + magic world is especially interesting and original, and the main characters grow with each experience. These are the type of books that still have me discover new things after a while, evoking similar feelings of anger, sadness, helplessness or joy when rereading. It is whý they get 5 stars.

The Midlife Demons and Demigods series isn't as, let's say, complex. Nor does it have an important issue to solve each book with a continuing main storyline. It is the main plot and story that we go back to each book. Which is also the reason why all novels so far had somewhat of a "cut-off" situation where the book ends quite randomly somewhere during the story. (It is starting to bother me. I am forced to reread at least the last chapter of the previous novel to make sense of the first new chapter again. It is fair warning to everyone who would like to start this series.)

Despite this little blemish and the less complex plot (nb. compared to my fave 5* books) Midlife Demons and Demigods is still worth your dollars/euro/yen/pounds etc. Less complex doesn't mean boring, or bad. At all. This series, as well as the title at hand, keeps surprising me. I've not seen most twists and turns coming, the books are exciting, the world building and magic is good and characters evoke the necessary emotions to immerse yourself in a written world. Cursed Magic is another page turner that has made me eager for more. I don't pull all-nighters for the fun of it!

If I can't have my absolute faves, I still want to read a good book. See a believable blossoming love life, growing friendships and good guys kicking bad guys behinds with cool magic. Without me figuring out to soon what's happening & wíth the tension of wondering. That's what MDAD is about and what Cursed Magic seems to be promising.

At the moment there's not much 'kicking bad guys' to be had though, with said guys looking to be on top of things. This series has a total of seven books and we definitely need the extra four. While we learn a bit with each book, it doesn't seem enough to figure out what on earth is going on just yet.

I'm just as rattled as the people living this story. Scary powerful, but unknown warlocks working against them. Even years and years back, always one step ahead. Altered memories. Spelled Hunters. Unknown traitors. Uncontrollable powers. Never before seen magic. Ghosts rising who shouldn't be able to. Kliona being shady (ier). Strange happenings in Shannon's home. Caleb showing a power that's rare. Dangerous humans walking allover town and last but not least: demons constantly crawling out of the woodwork without warning while the breach map is acting up more than ever.

In other words: what is going on??!! We're teetering on the edge of disaster, thàt is what going on. And that's not even counting the interpersonal relationships between the main Hunters.

The authors know how to sell it. Just like the previous two books Cursed Magic is a page turner. I actually think this is the best so far. We're on a roll now and that train isn't stopping anymore. The book read so easy and had so much constant action -with the few moments of character relaxation always giving us something new and interesting as well - that time flies while reading. It is why I am going to stop opening a MDAD novel just before bed. I need my sleep!

The Midlife world remains an entertaining one, leaving me extra curious and very impatient for the next book.

Maybe not the hard to come by 5 stars, but absolutely a recommendation!

This is book three of the Midlife Demons and Demigods series and Shannon, Daryn and the rest of his team are working hard to try and find who the traitor is within the Darkwind Council. Daryn has a solution to remove the dark pendant from around Shannon’s neck, which is messing with her new magical powers, boosting some and making her unable to use others fully when she needs to. She needs to take a sacred oath which he won’t reveal, but tells her will bind her further to him and the rest of his team of Hunters. She had left town at eighteen thinking she had no magic and wanting nothing to do with the council. Now she has found out that was all lies and that someone very powerful has been messing with her life and the memories of everyone around her since she was ten. The demon king had her parents killed, hoping they were killing off the person in their prophecy, that had a chance to stop their plans to take over the mundane world. Realising they were too late, whoever the king’s pawn is, had to bind her powers and get her exiled from town, in a hope to keep her away obviously.

The Hunters seem to be facing a never ending number of gate breaches, with demons streaming into previously closed off gates all around town and the Hunters have to face the fact that an insider has been closing off the protections on the breach board, that are supposed to protect the whole town. This traitor is way more powerful than they first thought and could even be a human demon hybrid, who is working directly for the demon king. Demons have also managed to get into the paranormal museum of magical artefacts and weapons, which should have been warded against them. They were seeking an ancient scroll and in fact helped the Hunters to find some information that will lead them to further scrolls leading to a number of prophecies that could lead to the total destruction of the human world. Cipher, one of Daryn’s team who is great with technology and can mix it with his magic, tries to work on tying it down to a specific prophecy. Even after Shannon takes her oath, the team are even busier and she gets introduced to the Hunter compound and training facilities, where her son Caleb is going to start training sometime soon. Her magic is still out of control and her Necro magic leads to her draining herself and even Daryn, when the Hunters blades don’t work on one lot of demons near the end of the book. Her life is connected to Daryn’s now through their bond and they have some close calls to get through, with each seeming to have bring a new power or magical issue to bear. Another fascinating read in this series I would recommend to others. I couldn’t put them down and read three of them in a day! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Cursed By Magic is the third book in the Midlife Demons and Demigods series. Once again, the book picks up exactly where the last one ended. I would therefore recommend reading this series in order.

In the last book, we left off with Shannon being unable to remove the Dark Witch's crystal pendant from her neck. Daryn, her parafinai, has a plan to remove it but the first step is to have her officially become a hunter. He takes her to the hunter's compound, and after giving her a quick tour, they proceed to a special room on the lower level where she completes her oath. The team then undergoes the painful process of having her mental link added. From there they proceed to the crypt where all hunters are interred. It is there that Daryn intends to complete a hunter severing spell, which he hopes will finally remove the pendant, and its influence.

As in the previous books, demon attacks continue, and the team is called in. Shannon learns more about her team, and their history, including Cipher's (Simon's) love story with Rosemary, the twins' (Indego & Kaine) upbringing by their grandfather, Sam Frost, and his challenging history. The team continues to investigate the Darkwind Council, and tries to identify the traitor in their midst. While they learn some things, it leads to many more questions.

This books has many more ghosts appearances, linked to Shannon's necromancer abilities. We also get some clues as to Caleb's future, his abilities, and his importance in the upcoming war.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this series and I'm already eager to read the fourth book, although I didn't love this book as much as the last. Sometimes, while reading, clues start to fall into place and I have a sense of who the villain will be. That's not the case here. I'm keen to see what clues are revealed in the next book.

This is a fun and easy to read paranormal book. It that's your jam, definitely add this series to your TBR queue.

In Spirit Falls, the descendants of the Gods and Goddesses of old fight demons of the Underworld. Daryn is the leader of the Hunters and he is still new in his parafinai bond mate with Shannon, whose son Caleb will be starting his training as a hunter. Her parents were killed when she was a child by demons and then no one tested her again after she was ten, which is unheard of. She was forced to leave and if it hadn’t been for Kliona finding her son and all, (see 1st book) she wouldn’t be back, nor would she have found out that she is the last descendant of Hecate (except for her son). The Council are a bunch of power hungry idiots. There is enough problems with them, that Daryn finally does something. All I got to say on that is woo hooooo finally. Maybe now we can find out who is the traitor in the next book and fix this stuff!

Shannon becomes a hunter and we get to see how hunters are trained in their facility and I was entranced by it all. I mean it was really freaking detailed. It was awesome and the fight scenes in all the books are so good! I’m totally in love with Lachlan, who was part of the hunter team with Shannon’s parents. We get to find out some of what happened when Shannon was younger. Major reveals. However, not all of my questions were answered as of yet. Good way to drag it out darn it! Lol. We learn more about Indy and the rest of Daryn’s hunter team and my heart broke for Cypher. I just wanna hug and then punch him. Lol. Everything about this world is intricate and fascinating for me. I can’t wait for the next book!.

This paranormal fantasy romance is page-turning with witches, demons, warlocks, and fated mates that are exceptional and world-building that is realistic. Their journey is enthralling with an underworld, magic, heartfelt emotions, drama, thriller, suspense, adventure, action, and more. I recommend reading this book by an extraordinary author who knows how to captivate her reader's hearts and attention with being cursed by magic and a paranormal fantasy romance that will have readers begging for more.

Audiobook Review
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 - Overall Rating
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 - Story
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 - Narration

This book (third in the Midlife Demons and Demigods series) keeps the action rolling as Shannon and Daryn, fight off demons, betrayal, and more apocalyptic drama than anyone could ask for. And let me just say—just when I thought I had things figured out, BAM! Another plot twist to keep me hooked.

Naomi Rose-Mock is Amazing! She brings the characters to life and makes the tension even more gripping. Definitely 5-star narration—her voice fits perfectly with the vibe of the story.

Would you recommend?

Absolutely! But I highly recommend starting with the first two books if you haven’t yet. The series builds on itself, and you'll appreciate the characters and stakes more if you get the full backstory. Plus, you don’t want to miss all the jaw-dropping moments that led up to this book. Fair warning: there’s a cliffhanger at the end of this one, so you’ll be dying for the next installment!.

Our heroine's powers continue to grow, but a traitor in their midst could be their undoing. Can she master her powers and defeat the turncoat before it is too late?

This is book three of the series. It does pretty well as a standalone, but will definitely be a better experience if read in order.

This is a paranormal romance story with witches, demons and that ilk. The story is well written and easy to read with a plot that nonetheless has a lot going on. The setting is well developed and quite intriguing, so I am definitely looking forward to exploring it in future books. The characters are equally well done. I definitely like our heroine and look forward to getting to know her better. The plot has a nice bit of mystery to it and, of course, plenty of magic. Overall, this is a fun series and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Highly recommended.

This series is getting better as it goes an absolute awesome read. Shannon is still learning about new abilities and bonding with the team. Crazy things are still happening and they are trying to figure what they need to do to stop the demon apocalypse. Between the team fracturing and a possible traitor, they need to fix things before it's becomes to late. This story is captivating so much so that I couldn't put it down. Tia and Victoria have done a amazing job with this series. They truly are talented author who know how to keep you intrigued and coming back for more. This is a must read if you enjoy a great story with magic, paranormal characters, and romance!! I loved it! I can't wait to see what happens in Spirit Falls in Tainted by Magic.

Shannon and Daryn continue the fight only to find the odds a stacked totally against them. The council fights them at every turn, each trying to gather more power for themselves. Humans are suddenly turning into hybrids for no apparent reason, little is known how or why this is occurring .
Capturing one of the demons alive has proved tricky but Shannon's magic has it moments.
The demon reveals quite a bit of information, all of it very disquieting and doesn't answer any of the questions the need to be answered.
Who is the Prince.
Why was it so important the Shannon leave before she became hunter.

This is an excellent series. We are learning more and more about what Shannon can do, and the relationship between her and Daryn , and the team.
We are also learning more about Caleb's abilities.
Action throughout the story. I love the twists in the plot. The unpredictability of the story line.
The flow is good, the action intense and the romance steamy.
What will happen next with the council out of commission? Will they get to the bottom of the hybrids and who is the prince? Inquiring minds want to know.

Shannon is slowly (??!!) getting drawn back into life in her old home town. She is coming to terms being the parafina to Daryn. They make an excellent team although she is still learning her abilities. Some of those abilities sneak up on her. She is also coming very slowly to terms that her son will be trained as a hunter and that he has inherited some of her powers. Then matters take a turn for the worse when Daryn has to disband the council. Now there are a lot of lives in danger and the demons are increasing.
A lot of action that will draw the reader into the pages of the book.

This is book 3 of Midlife Demons and Demigods that continues the story of Shannon a powerful witch that has come into her powers later in life and Daryn her partner and a hunter. Together they are working together to track down demons and prevent the demon king from entering their world. The story is full of twists and turns, and just when I think I have the plot figured out it changes. I would recommend reading the first two books because it will make more sense. The book does have a cliffhanger at the end.

Shannon finally agrees to become a Hunter and is joined with Daryn's team in a secret ceremony. Before she can get in any training, the team is up to its ears in demons. We learn more about the Hunter's facility and some of the team members. More of Shannon's powers manifest, though she can't explain or control them very well. An old conspiracy with present-day consequences is revealed. Did I mention the plethora of demons?

Fighting for Control . . .

The MIDLIFE DEMONS AND DEMIGODS series is most definitely action-packed! Shannon is still learning about her new magic and what she can make use of. Her powers definitely do start to increase, but they are subtly changed and twisted now. Can she learn to control these new powers? And will she learn in time to prevent an unrecoverable disaster? With the demons still continuing to pass through the gate, their problems are escalating. Will Daryn be able to find out who the traitor is and where his powerful magic is coming from?

Book three and we jump right on in where we left off in book two. Shannon & Daryn are back and they are still learning about their parafinai bond as Shannon becomes a hunter. It’s a fun read filled with action, adventure, demon attacks, magic and twists and turns you won’t see coming! Character growth is incredible and I am loving seeing Shannon & Daryn’s relationship grow and grow. We get some more background, some more history and it’s fantastic as we also see more about Caleb’s abilities and Shannon’s magic. It’s a series I am very much enjoying and I cannot wait for the next book.

Can't wait to read the next book in this series! Shannon, now bonded to Daryn, takes the oath to join his team as a hunter. Not only does their Parafinai bond grow stronger so does her connection with the team. As they battle demons and other creatures, more of the powers Shannon possess are revealed as well as the presence of a potential traitor.

Shannon doesn’t know what her powers she possesses.

These books need to be read in order. The demon are attacking in different places all over the city. Shannon has somehow called dead animals to fight. She deleted her powers again. Things are really getting out of hand. She don’t seem to be able to control herself. Her body is doing it’s own thing. What a mess. I really enjoyed this books. So many twists and turns. Not all of them good. Their world could be ruined.

The story continues to be enjoyable, exciting and fun. I am more invested now that I have gotten to know the characters better. My only criticism is that towards the end of the book the phrase "Everything will be better when her/my powers balance out" was used ad nauseam. If I never hear that phrase again, it will be too soon. You can't get the characters out of jams by just saying that every time, it gets old really fast. Other than that, it's still an enjoyable book.
