Tate isn’t a savior. And Chance doesn’t need to be saved. Turns out they’re both wrong.
For Tate McKenna, Navy SEAL sniper turned mercenary, rescue missions are part of a past he prefers to forget. But the target in his scope isn’t supposed to be choking someone to death right before his eyes. Saving some kid isn’t part of the job and derails his meticulous plans. Disruptions to his schedule make Tate a grumpy bastard and unforeseen complications just piss him off.
To Chance Forester, being forced into a blacked out SUV isn’t much of a surprise. He figures this trip to see his father is just like all the others until the usual beat down turns into attempted murder. Turns out, confiding in a man he thought was his friend was a huge miscalculation that might cost him his life.
When the heat of Tate's anger morphs into a desire to protect and care for Chance, will Chance allow himself to let his guard down? And will Tate be able to keep his boy safe like a good Daddy should while they’re on the run from those who want them both permanently silenced?
Chance Encounter is a part of the multi-author series The Elite. Each book can be read as a standalone and in any order. What links these books together is The Anonymous, a club beneath the gritty city where only the elite are welcome.
Luna David is a true romantic at heart who was fortunate enough to find and marry her soul mate. Most of the time she considers herself lucky to have been blessed with having g/b twins, but they're giving her a run for her money. She's a stay at home mom and an author, so when she's not begging her little monsters to behave, you'll most likely find her writing.
She loves anything book, coffee or dark chocolate related and can't think of a better way to pass the time than to combine all three. She reads romance novels voraciously and while she prefers contemporary romance with strong Alpha males finding their soul mates, she's a sucker for any well written, romantic story regardless of genre.
She created the Custos Securities Series because she loves to write what she loves to read. Her books feature strong dominant males and the men they would die protecting. Toss in some BDSM and kink and you've got her Catharsis Novel Series, The Boys Club Series, and Kink Chronicles Series. She loves nothing more than making her readers feel a wide range of emotions with her words. And she hopes you enjoy reading her books as much as she loved writing them. Happy Reading!
I only blame myself for this. I always seem to get selective amnesia about how much Daddy/boy books aren't for me: I try them out, I don't like them, then my ever-so-hopeful, goldfish brain seems to forget about this fact and every single freaking time I come across an appealing blurb with a Daddy/boy dynamic I try them again, and every single time I'm reminded why I don't read them. Ugh. It's such a shame because this kind of dynamic could (and can! I have come across books with it that I love) be unbelievably hot; I think I only ever like it when it's firmly inside the bedroom, and not a 24/7 kind of dynamic.
Anyway, sorry about this preamble: "Chance Encounter" started off in a really enjoyable, bonkers way, but I started skimming after Chance got rescued and their dynamic turned a bit too saccharine for my tastes, with virtually no more action and outside plot. A shame, because I was looking forward to an action-packed, plot-heavy and slightly OTT book that also featured BDSM (and that's such a rare feat in MM romance nowadays; it's either one or the other, so I'm always on the lookout for books where plot and kink go side by side).
Unfortunately Tate and Chance's dynamic did not work for me: it was too unbelievable and too my-teeth-are-rotting sweet. Again, this is my fault because I know that Daddy/boy books don't work for me, but I still gave another one a go, hoping, maybe, that there were some different elements to the romance that could have made their dynamic stand out.
If you're a Daddy/boy fan though, and a fan of morally gray assassin protagonists and bonkers, OTT plots, you'll definitely love this book. Objectively, "Chance Encounter" is a quick read, sweet and probably enjoyable to any fan of this kind of genre. And, to finish off this review with a more positive note, I absolutely adored Nova and I'm very curious about a few side characters now, especially the grumpy doctor. I'll definitely be reading other books in this multi-author series!
TWs/CWs: homophobia, child abuse, physical assault, injuries, PTSD and flashback, domestic abuse (mentioned, side character).
Thank you GRR for the ARC. I received it in exchange for an honest review.
DNF & Delete because one, the phrase 'like a good daddy should' is a major ick! two, I enjoyed reading the author's 'the boys club' well enough, but this is a short story happening in like a day? a week max and they're already in this kind of relationship? how?
Chance Encounter is a bi-awakening, Daddy/boy story by Luna David. The book is part of the Elite multi-author collection of standalone books, all set in the same city and featuring a secret club for the elite underworld. The author does a nice job incorporating the common elements of the collection into the story and evoking this city full of dirty cops and assorted criminals. The book starts off with a lot of excitement as Tate is out on a job to kill the mayor and ends up finding Chance (who is dressed in traditionally female clothes and so Tate assumes he is a woman from far away). Chance has been near beaten to death and Tate can’t bear to leave him there at risk, so there is a nice element of intensity as Tate risks exposure to rescue Chance and take out all the remaining bad guys who could recognize Chance later. As often is the case with this type of story, Tate is sort of an “assassin with a conscience,” entering into this life after his military partner was killed and only taking jobs where he can verify the victims are “bad guys.”
I was just getting ready to start another book from my TBR pile (I swear) when I saw a recommendation for Luna David's "Chance Encounter" on K.M. Neudhold's Facebook Fan page. It's the ninth book in a multi-author series called The Elite. ["Tate isn’t a savior.
Turns out, confiding in a man he thought was his friend was a huge miscalculation that might cost him his life.
When the heat of Tate's anger morphs into a desire to protect and care for Chance, will Chance allow himself to let his guard down? And will Tate be able to keep his boy safe like a good Daddy should while they’re on the run from those who want them both permanently silenced?"] This one took longer to read than necessary, but I was reading and watching TV at the same time so... ANYway, this book was super cute. I mean, obviously, like the Mike Bravo Ops guys, Tate doesn't have the most savory (or legal) job ever, but it's all about taking bad guys out. Until he meets Chance during one of his ops, and everything changes.
They're instant...I don't want to say attracted to each other (sure, they are), because their minds were very occupied elsewhere when they met. But after that, their relationship was natural and easy (mostly). Sure, there's a little bit of complications, but not major plot twists or third act wait-the-bad-guy-is-still-out-there or any surprises. After they admit their feelings, it's pretty low-angst, which was a nice surprise.
One day, when I find the time, maybe I'll go back and read the other books in the series (and Luna's other books).
Trigger Warnings: child abuse, homophobic slurs, physical assault, PTSD, and more
Chance Encounter (The Elite ) by Luna David finishes out the multi-author series, The Elite, and does so smartly with a storyline that leans towards the dark side and characters that fit in nicely with a hellish city built on crime, sin, and murder.
We’re talking about that dark, sinister city of Old Defiance, where even the alleyways are paved smooth for ease of use for cars and trucks picking up or dumping trash, er bodies. And that most elegant of hotels, The Menagerie, home to unsavory club, The Anonymous, where the criminal members get a safe card even if they’re mortal enemies as well as a on call doctor.
It’s a fabulous theme and David dives right in with an ex-SEAL sniper turned assassin for hire, Tate McKenna, out on his latest assignment when a complication arises in the tiny form of Chance Forester.
I’ll stop here for a trigger warning. Chance Encounter has explicit scenes of domestic violence, father on son vicious beatings. It also contains scenes where memories of past childhood violence is revealed. If this is something that triggers you, then perhaps this isn’t a book for you.
That said, David has created in Chance a person who has crafted their own coping mechanisms over the years, a character so believable in his personality that he’s instantly beloved and connectable.
Another note is about the kink aspect. There’s a Daddy kink at play here, mild bdsm as both sides are new to this and neither one seems to want it to extend past the need to take control of the care of the other. Even if Daddy kink isn’t your thing, I believe you can still enjoy this romance. Very sexy and key to this couple’s relationship and romantic journey.
There’s several interesting elements that include family dynamics, family relationships , and characters which I wish the author (and book size) would have been able to explore further.
If this series had a combined plus and minus it would be that the greatest stories were both too short and left the reader wanting more of this fabulous theme and characters it inspired.
The series is done. My recommendations are marked below with a ❤️. It includes Chance Encounter. Happy Reading!

I honestly skimmed most of the last 20%. I didn’t realize this was a “daddy” book, and although there is no age play, I’m still not a fan. The overuse of “Daddy” and “baby” got to me. I rounded my rating up as I feel this is a case of it’s me not the book.
It really doesn't matter how many 'daddy' books I read, I really still don't get it. Chance was obvious in his need for a daddy. Tate however, starts the book as a straight man who had never had a gay thought and never thought about being a daddy. Then miraclously he transformed into GFY and a daddy. Most of the book was dedicated to the aftermath of Chance's father's killing and the daddy relationship.
On a different note, I have really enjoyed this series.
Tate isn’t a savior. And Chance doesn’t need to be saved. Turns out they’re both wrong. For Tate McKenna, Navy SEAL sniper turned assassin, rescue missions are part of a past he prefers to forget. But the target in his scope isn’t supposed to be choking someone to death right before his eyes. Tate McKenna is a former Navy SEAL sniper turned assassin for hire. His latest job is to take out the city mayor, who it turns out is up to all sorts of questionable, nasty dealings. What Tate doesn’t expect is to find the mayor beating up what appears to be a young woman. Even as Tate makes the kill, he can’t just leave the woman unconscious on the floor. He knows that either the mayor’s men will find her, or the police will be suspicious of her, and neither of these are good options. Tate realizes that it's probably a risk, and a bad idea, but he decides to rescue the woman before leaving the scene...with a BIG surprise when he takes a second look at the "woman" that he's rescued.
Chance Forester grew up with abusive parents who wanted to him to show the image of the "perfect" son. When Chance came out as being gay to them, they unceremoniously removed him from the house and their lives.... but in spite of that, his parents still try to control him. Sometimes, Chance can’t resist taking some risks just to have some freedom. This time...it backfires, and Chance finds himself captured by his father’s thugs. When they take him to his father’s mansion and he sees how angry his father is, Chance wonders if this is the time the beating will be the end of him. He never expects to find himself rescued by a mysterious stranger who ...Hallelujah...has killed his dad.
Tate knows he needs to get Chance "off the grid" for a while. He imagines that the police are looking for the killer and they will soon turn to Chance. Chance is also badly injured and shouldn't be alone. Tate knows that he should be walking away, but there's something about Chance that is compelling; he just can’t leave him. As the guys spend time together and Tate soon realizes that he's attracted to Chance, something he has never felt for a man before. Even more, he is finding himself intrigued by Chance’s interest in a Daddy/boy dynamic and realizing it completely lines up with his desire to take care of and protect Chance. Now, as the men wait it out for things to settle after the hit, they may just find themselves falling hard for one another.
"Chance Encounter" is a bi-awakening, Daddy/boy story, and also a part of "The Elite". a multi-author collection of standalone books, all set in the same city and featuring a secret club for the "Elite" underworld. I really like this author and have read and own many of her books. She, as always, did a great job of incorporating the common elements of the on-going theme of the "Elite" story collection into this story and evoking a city full of dirty cops and assorted dirtier criminals. As is the case with the other 8 stories in this series, Tate is an “assassin with a conscience,” entering into this life after his military partner was killed and only taking jobs where he is 100% certain that the victims are really “bad guys.” You just have to go with the idea that Tate is making these decisions about who deserves to die, as well as accept the information given to him by his sister, who is a hacker. Most of the rest of the story takes place in a Safe House and things slowed down somewhat, by which time Chance and Tate had already fallen for one another. Mostly this portion of the book is a chance for Tate and Chance to get to know one another.
Luna David did a nice job with the "small" details, that can "make or break" a story, although I was a bit confused about who ordered the hit and why. Overall, I enjoyed the story...a lot. If you're a fan of this multi-author series, which can be read in any order, or if you enjoy bi-awakening or "Daddy/boy" dynamics, you will find this one is well worth considering as well of any of Luna David's other wonderful books.
Chance Encounter is another great book in the Elite series. It's an assassin/rescue, daddy/boy, hurt/comfort romance with an instalove element with how quickly the MCs call for each other. Tate is hired for a very job with a very good layout but is not prepared for having to rescue Charlie in the midst of it. Charlie is used to being beaten by his father but it went to the extreme this time. When he wakes, it's to find a stranger leaning over him and offering to take him away. In order to ensure Charlie's safety, they hide out for a bit which gives them the chance to get to know each other better. We really dive straight in on the action with this one as Tate is carrying out a job and then goes straight into the one where he meets Charlie. He is surprised by the level of protectiveness he feels for the young man but it feels so natural to want to care for him and make sure he's ok. Charlie is immediately attracted to his saviour and eternally grateful for the situation he saved him from. Theirs is a slow burn romance as, at first, Charlie is healing and then it's giving them a chance to get to know each other before deciding on what they want in just the best of the moment. It's a pretty fast paced story and everything develops at a rapid pace, attraction and feelings included, but it feels pretty natural between them and you can feel that it makes them both very happy. I really enjoyed the relationship that Tate has with his sister and niece, and that Charlie has with his Grams, his one loving family member. He definitely hasn't had a good life with his parents but he has managed to mostly make a good life for himself. A great addition to The Elite series. Fun to read with the bad guy getting his comeuppance and the MC's getting their deserved HEA. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
The first thing I’ll say is that this is Daddy-light so if you’re worried about it being very heavy on Daddy link, don’t. Yes the word daddy gets used, yes there is very mild submission but unless you strongly dislike anything Daddy this will be absolutely fine (I know some people are often really worried about how deep the Daddy goes - and yes, that was a terrible pun on my part hehe). I think this book is best described as an action romance. There’s a bit of action which is not entirely believable but super fun and assassiny. That’s then followed with a whole bunch of sweetness as Tate and Chance find their HEA. I love these kinds of books because they completely take you out of the real world to something fun and fanciful. Tate was a total sweetheart and I loved the care he had for others even if he appeared gruff at first. Chance was so strong despite what might have appeared to be a fragile exterior. That guy was a warrior and went through so much whilst still refusing to let it defeat him. The two of them made sense together; they cared deeply for those who deserved it and were willing to take on the world if they needed to. I just wish there was more time actually seeing them connect. I felt like their relationship just came a little too easily maybe? I would have loved to see a few more scenes with some intense UST or maybe some more scenes where they got to know each other beyond the initial attraction and shared kink. I get they had a soul connection and I’m totally there for that, I just like to see some more building blocks. I still really enjoyed this; to me I did was it was meant to, it was fun, a little bloody, sweet and steamy. I had fun reading it and was happy these characters got their HEA.
I've read other books by Luna David that I really enjoyed and this one just got added to the list! I'm not sure how they managed to take a story about a hired assassin who swoops in to protect a beautiful boy and make it both heartbreaking and sweet, but they absolutely nailed it! Tate was very likeable as the hired sniper who's conscience just won't let him walk away from the abused boy - whose father he just killed. Chance was certain that this time his father was going to finally beat him to death - until he looked into the eyes of his would-be rescuer and saw hope! As the two men are forced into hiding until the illegal factions his father worked with are taken care of, Chance begins to dream that Tate might just be the Daddy he's been looking for - and Tate begins to realize that no matter what happens, he's not giving up his sweet boy! I loved how both MC's opened up and were honest about their past traumas and worked to forge a real relationship - despite the circumstances they are in. Chance was so wounded, physically and emotionally, but still so sweet and hopeful. He really deserves his HEA, and I'm so happy he found that in Tate. There are a few background characters that have brief but pivotal roles in the plot, and I loved the little intimate moments between Tate and his sister. This is definitely a story that I'd love to see more of and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this! It's not long but immensely satisfying and leaves you with a spark of happiness and sunshine! Utterly adorable!
Sweet, short and easy read about a boy finding his Daddy. O, and one good looking assassin of course ;)
This story started straight in the middle of some action. We got some personal information, internal musings and go through the nitty and gritty for more action. The main characters want to take their time getting to know each other. There is insta attraction, but they don't just jump into things. Instead, the talk a bit about themselves and what they want before getting down. While I admire this, it might not work the best for this short story, especially as we don't have any action anymore after the first part of the book. This, to me, made the story feel a bit slow, even though it was still very sweet. I wish we had gotten a bit more action and to see Change and Tate tackle this together.
I also like the author added a bit of BDSM in there and I wish we had gotten to see more about that. I also feel like we don't really get to know the characters beyond the basis likes and dislikes, but again, it was only a short story.
Change is really sweet and Tate is his hero. While it is clear they are attracted to each other and I could infidelity get the chemistry between them, I do feel there is still a lot more to know about them, but again, short story. Maybe the author is going to write another story about them if enough people ask for it?
2 POV, chapters change between Change and Tate. Third person. No cheating anywhere in the book.
3.5 stars Instant attraction, danger, violence, close proximity, bi-awakening, short story. This book started with intense action as we are introduced to Tate, and a BDSM scene as Chance is introduced. After that, while Tate is taking out his next target, he ends up saving Chance's life. Tate is a bit confused by his attraction to Chance and his need to care for him, as he's never felt that way for a guy before, but he just goes with it. They need to stay in a safehouse while Chance recovers and for things to get straightened out, and they use this time to get to know each other. Chance is a sparkly boy who really wants a Daddy, and he is surprised to get those vibes from Tate. Chance needs to know he can trust Tate and believe he is worthy of being cared for and loved, and when he does, there are some spicy encounters between them. When information starts coming in, there is a bit of surprise twist for Chance, but the situation has been handled and they can go back to their lives - together, as they have developed a connection in the time they were together. For me, this connection felt more like a beginning rather than a done deal with I love you's being spoken. The epilogue is sweet and states they now work together, but it would have been better to see them in action some more, and to know what happened with the business Chance had before this all happened.
Chance is a hairdresser that's having to hide the biggest part of himself because his father won't allow his son to be gay. He's been abused since he was a small child and tonight is just another one of those nights; only this may end up being the last one.
Tate is an ex-Navy Seal sniper turned assassin who is contracted to kill Chance's father. He has a strict code of only taking contracts of very bad men and this man is right up there with the worst. On the night that he goes to take out his target he finds him beating and choking someone. Now he's on a rescue mission.
This is a short, fast paced book that has elements of John Wick and The Bodyguard only with a HEA. The two MCs are immediately attracted to each other and apparently fall in love fast. I get the attraction but I didn't feel the love part. I didn't think they had enough time to fall in love. Tate has never been attracted to a man before, so that brings extra to the table that I felt like he should've needed time to adjust to. I really wanted the two MCs to have more time getting to know each other. I wanted to see and feel the falling in love. I did like the relationship between Tate/Nova/his niece. The Daddy/Boy situation wasn't my cup of tea but I glossed over that part.
This is part of a multi author series, The Elite. I have not read the others and was able to really enjoy this book. However, the side characters caught my attention so I will be definitely be reading the other books 😍 It does deal with physical abuse but only one time on page, others is the MC telling his story. But there's plenty of humor, suspense, action, steam, and sweet and tender moments to balance out the angst, which is only in short periods. Chance has not had a very happy childhood, but this has not stopped him from trying to enjoy life. His inner strength not allowing his spirit to be broken, finding joy wherever he can. And then one day he went too far in his rebellion, but a dark angel was at the right place at the right time, saving him when he needed it most, in more ways than one. Tate did not expect to be anyone's savior, he's usually the executioner. A chance encounter leads to 2 broken souls helping each other heal, finding love where they least expected it. Tate discovers his inner hidden desires, opening his heart to something he didn't think he wanted. Tate and Chance's relationship does evolve quickly but it is acknowledged by the MCs, and it worked for this story. Now I'm off to read the rest of the books in this series.
Tate McKenna left his life as a SEAL sniper and became a mercenary. When his next job comes up, he never expected his target to be choking another. Nor did he expect to save that innocent young man. Tate hates when his carefully laid plans are derailed, but he also cannot allow this young man to die. Chance Forester is unfortunately used to his father beating him but this time is different as he seems determined to kill Chance. When he is rescued by an unlikely source, Chance is not sure he can trust Tate, but he really has no choice. Tate, for his part, is feeling surprisingly protective and wants nothing more to happen to Chance.
Tate left the SEALs to right a wrong and that is how he has lived his life since then. He chooses which wrongs he will take on, but he never anticipated his encounter with Chance. Chance wants to be a good boy and maybe Tate is the perfect Daddy for him. These two will really touch your heart. Both damaged in different ways, they find healing with each other. I know there are some stories that I would like to explore from this author. After reading his one, I am now a fan.
Eh, it wasn't my favorite. The beginning had promise but then it strayed from plot to slice-of-life and that wasn't really what I wanted from this series. This happened in an earlier book, too, and while I can say it was enjoyable enough, it didn't scream *The Elite* to me. I did like the Nova/Tate dynamic quite a bit and I'm a sucker for a good sniper. Also appreciated the name-dropping of past characters. The rest held too many cliches and contradictions, though. Chance's father kicked him out/cut him off for being gay but somehow controls his life and never says anything about the way he dresses but is happy to beat him for...what, exactly? The story starts out seemingly like Tate's going to do the whole bi-awakening/gay-for-you thing but then is suddenly kink-positive and not at all fussed about being attracted to Chance (even though he had a minor mental breakdown about finding him beautiful in the beginning). I don't know. Maybe I was expecting too much. Anyway, for a slice-of-life it was a fun, quick read.

Chance Encounter is the last book of the multi-author series The Elite. Each book can be read as a standalone, but there are details and recurring characters throughout the books that make reading all of them more entertaining. This book has action and suspense as the main characters, Chance and Tate, run from and take down the bad guys. It is a daddy / femme boy story with a gay awakening or gay-for-you trope. It has BDSM elements, but aside from a scene of voyeurism, it’s all light. It’s mainly control (rules and rewards), following directions, calling each other daddy and boy, etc. The love story is really sweet, and after Chance’s rough life growing up abused, I was thrilled he found someone like Tate to love him and take care of him. My only complaint is that any conflict was resolved so easily that it was unrealistic. A potentially life-changing problem with the police? No problem, two sentences and it’s resolved. Tate has never been gay or had feelings for a man? No problem, he just accepts it’s true and doesn’t even really question it (not even internally, which seems odd). The story isn’t very long, so I’m assuming that’s the reason for the lack of development. Despite that criticism, I enjoyed the story. It flows well, and I was really interested from start to finish. I do recommend it!
I loved this one. Chance broke my heart. His POS father has been abusing him since he was a child and one night goes just about too far. It just so happens that on that night Tate, who is an assassin, has come to take out the POS father. He does and saves Chance’s life. At first he thinks he is a young girl, but then realizes that it’s the most beautiful young man he has ever seen. Tate doesn’t come across as straight, bi, Gay etc. He has more of maybe a pan flavor possibility bordering on Demi. But that is just my opinion. He has always wondered about the bdsm lifestyle but has not dabbled in it. For one, his line of work doesn’t scream relationship material. But his protective streak puts him smack dab in the Daddy category. Chance brings that out of him in spades. There were some surprises that never crossed my mind that I enjoyed. I haven’t read these in order, but it's working out fine for me. Can’t wait to continue on.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.
This book is part of the Elite series and I have read quite a few of them. Tate was offered a job through his contacts, which his sister Nova researches. When he realizes who is the target and the amount of money that was offered, it was a no brainer to accept. Chance is at a club enjoying his night out when he receives a text saying his father is looking for him. With Tate looking on and realizes the person taken was not in good shape. He goes and rescues him and their story starts from there. There was instant chemistry between them but took it show as Chance was badly hurt. Loved the dynamics between them. Great world building, chemistry with some action. Loved it and need to read more from this series.
This was another great read in the world of The Elite and I loved the brief hint of crossover between familiar faces in this world. Tate and Chance had brilliant chemistry from start to finish; I loved their dynamic and how protective Tate was. There was such care and consideration given and I thought they were well suited. Those references to Tate's family also made him a more realistic character - I bought into why he became an assassin and I wanted to know more. Overall, this is a great MM romance with some action to kick things off, lots of hurt/comfort and a HEA for the two of them. If this is your genre, definitely give this one a try.
Exciting from start! Tate, has his target acquired when he notices he's choking someone. Immediate dilemma requiring action that will have consequences with which he may not want to become acquainted. Chance thought he was slipping to visit his Dad and ends up almost loosing his life. His Dad just turns him into someone he dosen't want to be. Tate is a grumpy bear, but he tones down while rescuing Chance. Can these two damaged men find their balance, their happy as they are trying to survive? Can Tate protect Chance? Does Chance still need protection after running for awhile? Excellent flow, abundance of excitement with some good loving as the cherry on top. Great story, well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I read others in this series and I was excited to read this romance. It had the edge I like and the sweet romance with some kink I'm enjoying more and more these days. I love how Chance is a survivor and through his tragic background he is not afraid of being himself. Tate was made to be a daddy and fate knew whats up when he had that "chance encounter" with the lovely Chance and rescued him...Their banter...the intense attraction, the trust and eventually the love made this an enjoyable read. Yeah there were some disturbing scenes that was hard to read but I knew it was gonna get better for our MCs...and it did...this was a delight and I'm glad I read this and know others will feel the same.

⚠️ Please check the triggers before reading this. I DFN this book because of the physical violence included in this for Chance’s story. Its not pretty. Tate was an ex military now a an assassin but having PTSD he hadn’t sort out help from it. He gets a high profile case which he and his sister are cautious about. Miles was the major of the city and a bad bad man with a 2 mil target out. Chance was a saviour of domestic abuse from father from the age of 4 years. He loved the Vertigo club but his father’s goons find him. He was in serious danger with his life. There’s an attraction for Chance and Tate but injuries take priority first. Told with both povs in the story.

This was such a well paced book. Chance is a young man who just wants to live his life authentically but his father doesn't approve of Chance's lifestyle and has beaten him his whole life. Tate is a former SEAL turned assassin who happens to have Chance's father in his scope when he sees Chance being choked and decides he needs to get his kill and then rescue him. Their feelings develop quickly while hiding out until it's safe. Chance is looking for a Daddy but Tate has never even thought about it until Chance. I've love Luna's books and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a little bit of angst and a whole lot of romance with a HEA. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
This is another book from the Elite multi author series. Like many of the other books in this series it would have benefited from being longer. I get they’re supposed to be novellas but these stories all have so much going on in addition to the romance they feel incomplete.
I don’t read a lot of daddy/boy stories but this one felt more realistic than others I’ve read and this author does a great job of making their connection feel genuine. The overall theme of this series was really interesting to me but none of the stories actually focused much on the actual bar/hotel and what happens there which is too bad because I think it was a great idea.
What a whirlwind of a story! It has it all - murder, plenty of morally gray characters, a natural Daddy and a very special boy. Of course, it is all completely imagined, but it has its charm. The characters are cute. Tate is totally a natural Daddy, even though he has never been one before. He is protective, sweet, caring and always has his boy's best interests in heart. He is a great character! I am a bit undecided about Chance, but they make a good couple. A pretty short, enjoyable read in a shared multi-author universe.
