deserves four stars and an extra because i enjoyed it
A well done classic regency with all parts in place:
dashing hero/caped masked rescuer/ an undercover Duke.
fearless heroine, cruel villain/rival of hero,
a spoiled blonde lying temptress brainless brat who attempts to ruin fearless heroine, and snatch hero, ending in ambush at Vauxhall Gardens with the spoiled brat who was in it with a very persuasive competent villain, the hero's partner,
Facts of period history woven into plot when the Thames with awash from river pirates
Action packed with pirates in the opening scene, from there we travel up the social spectrum, but always connected to the boat they came over on. The heroine gets a bit boring when her solution is too bolt a situation to [reserve her independence. disguise, the masked caped man is a lord, who becomes her benefactor. What's his game, gives heroine and aunt a London season. Obviously touches, paints all the right images. Finally a read that wasn't a sex manual set in Regency, this was a regency novel of meritorious writing with a reward of dialogue, conversation with wit, banter, angst done with a light brush. will reread. this appears the best of her canon.
