Beck Whitcomb
I left a world of privilege to prove I can make my own way, first as a Navy SEAL, now as a business owner. Money, mansions, expensive cars—none of it could heal the loss of my older brother or buy my parents’ love. Now, after using my trust fund to open the Conquistadors tequila bar with my brothers-in-arms, I have it good friends, fine liquor, and hot hookups. When it comes to women, commitment’s not my thing—until I get a taste of the pretty professor who walks into my bar . . . and winds up in my bed.

Hayden Miles
I know all too well that emotional decisions can lead to heartbreak, and nothing screams “bad decision” like a playboy bartender with inked biceps and a wicked smile. Still, our chemistry is off-the-charts explosive—and I know chemistry. For once, this good girl longs to let loose and have a fling. But am I willing to risk the pain to quench my thirst? With the promise of more on the table, I’m eager to believe . . . before I miss my shot.

So...I'm not 100% sure how I feel about this book. I liked it but there was just something that didn't get me to where I wanted to go with this story. I've read some of the reviews that were posted for this book and I have to agree that there could have been more emotional connection between the main characters. We get both POVs and while I loved that we got to see how they thoughts and emotions changed for each other, I simply can't help but feel that the potential of the story wasn't fully used and executed. Had the story had more emotional development, more inner analyzing about how they felt about each other and maybe less everyday scenes, which were great btw., then maybe I would give it a five stars. But despite what I said, that doesn't mean that the story is not good, because it is, it's just the unused potential that's bothering me so much and that's why I couldn't fully enjoy the story.

description

The best word to describe this book is probably realistic. We get to see how two completely different people, from completelly different background find each other and become friends. Guy meets girl, they have a connection and hit it off. Go together to lunch or dinner and have fun just beeing with each other. It's stuff that happens everyday in real life and I really liked that the author chose to take this path to make her plot. There are also situations that let us see that they aren't perfect and that they are real people with real problems, just like anyone of us. That's why I could connect with the story so much and in the end that's why I gave it four stars. Of course, the sexy parts also played a role in that decision. Their connection of one of a kind and their chemistry is just spot on. It's safe to say I enjoyed their playful side. And as far as the other characters go, I liked them a lot! I have a feeling whose book might be next and if I'm right, it's going to be an interesting read. ;)

This story made me so happy! I loved that the main characters was a shy, nerdy scientist and the hot, outgoing, ex-seal who pursued her. For the most part this story was fun and light.

Hayden is a biochemist and professor. She lost her parents when she was a teenager. Her aunt and uncle took care of her until she went off to college. She was extremely smart but had OCD issues and suffered with anxiety. She works and takes care of her now aging aunt and uncle with no room for fun in her life.

Beck comes from a very wealthy family that has not treated him well. He lost his older brother when he was 12 and his parents have chased off every girl he has tried to have a relationship with. He left his family to join the Navy and become a Seal bonding with two of his Navy brothers. He doesn't believe in relationships and he has seen enough in his time of service that he just wants to have fun in life.

These two were the perfect compliment to each other. Both are afraid to love, Hayden not knowing how to have fun and Beck happy to show her how to have fun. What starts out as a no strings fun turns into so much more.

I loved the journey these two took to starting out as causal lovers to falling in love, the whole time being in denial that their feelings were growing stronger. Despite them not acknowledging the "more" in their relationship, it was really a low angst read. Hayden was so open and didn't play games. Because of her being so open with him, Beck was understanding of her anxiety and would help ease her into situations. It was incredibly sweet and a nice change of pace from the usual stories out there. I really loved the fact that the Nerd got the Hottie in the end. :)

Sexy, hot and sweet!

Against his family’s wishes, Beck Whitcomb served his country as a Navy SEAL and proved to himself he was worth something without their love or money. After coming back stateside, he’s decided to ignore his parents’ insistence that he take over the family business and instead used his trust fund to open up a tequila bar with his SEAL buddies. Not wanting to continue with his family’s legacy of having an empty family of his own, he’s devoted to enjoy life and his womanizing ways. Until a straight laced professor gives a lesson in explosive chemistry and then… rejects him?! Can he convince her experience life outside her laboratory?
“There is no chemical formula for sand, because it’s a mix of different minerals and particles. But most sand consists mainly of silicon dioxide…”
“Adorkable. Come on, let’s go analyze some sand.”

Hayden Miles has always been the “quiet, shy, smart” girl who never really fit in. The one who doesn’t let many people in because being available to emotions includes getting hurt. So for the life of her she can’t understand why the drop dead gorgeous bartender is so interested in her, much less why she’s so eager to risk getting involved with him. One thing she can’t deny is their incredible attraction, excitement and sense of feeling alive she experiences whenever she’s with Beck who seems to want much more than to just live in the moment with her. Will she leave her planned and orderly life?
“She understood hormones, but this was something inexplicable… a feeling like being high on a drug, like just the smell and taste of him was intoxicating. Addicting.”

What do you get when you mix cocktails and dreams (did anyone catch the reference)? A lot of seduction and fun for sure. Kelly Jamieson writes an entertaining story about two very opposite people who complimented each other perfectly. They were on different sides of the “how to live your life spectrum” and when they collided they did just cause a sizzling reaction they also showed each other how to balance their lives between work, family, friends and fun together.

There were loads of sexy times as well as sweet and tender moments. I enjoyed getting to know them while they got to know each other and slowly develop their feelings for one another, because they both had doubts and fears they needed to surpass. But eventually they get over the biggest hurdles and find that their happiness is with each other.
“ I kind of get a thrill just from being with you.” ~Beck

I will comment on a couple of things. Because I liked the characters and had fun reading their story, I would have loved to have the same level of emotional depth as their attraction. Don’t get me wrong, you do feel how they fall for each other, but I also think it could have been more. Again, because I liked Hayden and Beck I wanted more at the end.

Body Shot is book #1 in the Last Shot series by Kelly Jamieson. It’s a light, fun and sexy contemporary romance. It can be read as a standalone. Told from both points of view.

Ah, this is what I was talking about!

At this point Kelly has become of my favorite NA contemporary authors! She just can’t do wrong and it’s very refreshing seeing how she’s improving her writing book by book.

There are, of course, some things that need still a little bit of work –like her side characters. Although Kelly’s pretty good at developing her MC’s, she struggles when it comes to the rest of her characters and that’s an issue. It can be her burden later on should she continue this way but I know she’ll do better.

Now, this story was so much fun! It was all about learning more about yourself and just stopping for a second; you can work, you can have a successful career, you can have a family but you can also enjoy life and have fun and you can be happy. Truly happy.

I think this book delivers what it promised –a sexy and fun story full of adventurous moments and heartwarming scenes, and the MC’s were so good for one another! Beck and Hayden had such a perfect balance and they complemented each other nicely but they were also their own individuals, it was so good.

I really had no issue with them whatsoever, you know how amazing is that? I loved them together and the sex scenes?

Wow, let me tell you: h o t a s f u c k .

I liked how they were discovering what they liked as they were doing it, I loved how they were having fun and I liked also how they trusted in each other.

The feelings, I think, were developing subtly, always there and growing and that was just the best. You could see them falling for each other and how their fears were getting in the way but, eventually, overcoming those fears.

What I didn’t like, beside Kelly’s underdeveloped side characters, was that epilogue. It felt rushed and out of place, and since this isn’t the first time it happened, I think she needs to re think about how she wraps her stories.

Overall I just enjoy reading her so much that it’s a must read for me every time she releases something.

Body Shot pairs up two unlikely characters in this steamy romance. Hayden is all things geek. Work is her life and she spares little time to anything else. Order and planning is what makes her tick. But when her best friend pleads with her to live a little she gives in and everything begins to change.

Enter Beck. Ex Navy SEAL, loaded and bar owner. Oh, and did I mention sexy as hell? Yep. Sexy. As. Hell.

Besides the first kiss in a romance, one of my most favorite moments is the first meeting of the H/h. Kelly Jamieson gave us a fantastic oops moment when these to first meet and the sparks just continued to fly as they got closer.

I am sort of in love with the hot guy and nerdy girl getting together. It’s a little quirky and I think it plays out better than the low self-esteem heroine types. I think her quirkiness made Hayden so loveable and there wasn’t much wrong with Beck.

Now sexy times. Holy fuck. It wasn’t like the sex in this was explicit or over the top – it was just hot. Something about their banter, about how Hayden lost her inhibitions and just sort of said what she felt, what she wanted – it made it all a bit hotter.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I will definitely be reading the rest in this series.

I don't know what it was, exactly, but I was never really able to fully engage with this book. I liked the characters individually.

Beck was interesting, but at the same time, a bit of a cliche as the former SEAL turned bar owner who has refused to live the wealthy life expected of him.

Hayden was under developed and maybe a little stereotypical as the shy woman who gets involved with a man she sees as out of her league.

I liked them separately and I think I was more interested in the development of them individually than I was in the development of their relationship. I think it felt like I was reading about 2 people who I didn't quite know, and as a result I was not able to invest in their relationship.

It could have been me on this one, and I am guessing, as I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them, that it may have been something about this book that didn't click for me...so I can't say don't read it...I can just say that I don't really recommend it.

Body Shot is the first story in Kelly Jamieson’s new Last Shot series, centered around three former Navy SEALs who now run a tequila bar. It’s a sexy, lighthearted read with minimal angst, the characters are stereotypical and the story is predictable. It won’t rock the world of romantic literature but it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon.

Beck and his two friends, Marco and Cade have retired from their Navy SEAL days and having bonded in that way that military brothers do, were left a bit at odds as to what to do after their retirement. Beck had a sizable inheritance that let him choose from any number of future paths and in partnership with his two friends they’ve opened up an ocean-side tequila bar. While the financial success of the bar doesn’t really matter to Beck, it does to Cade and Marco and they’ve been trying to find a way to draw in some new business. A tequila tasting night is planned, and it’s at the first such occasion that Beck officially meets Hayden, a busy and somewhat shy scientist lured out for a night on the town by her best friend. Hayden and Beck previously had a run in on the street when Beck saved Hayden from an embarrassing fall. This chance meeting sets the stage for an easy flirtation at the bar and a hot hookup that leaves Hayden and Beck wanting more. But with Hayden committed to her research work and Beck avoiding commitment altogether, will their sexy affair flame out quickly or be the start of a future together?

The concept of the tequila bar sets the stage for this romance on a slightly different note to the typical winery or craft brewery that is more prevalent in the contemporary romance scene. There’s a good discussion of the history of tequila, and the differences in brands as part of the tequila tasting scene at the start of the story. It’s a little more descriptive than what I expect to read in a contemporary romance but I like those kinds of details.

Formula wise though, the story is the same as many others – hot commitment phobic playboy meets geeky woman. Sexy times ensue. Hayden is a friendly, smart, organized, hard-working woman. While I like her as a person, there are some details regarding her career that are not realistic. As luck would have it (or not, for the author) I’m a biochemist who works in industry so I feel qualified to point out some details that bothered me. Hayden is described as owning her own biotech company which is involved in the ubiquitous area of cancer research (a safe bet). Her job involves the business aspects of the job, including grant proposals and funding, as well as working in the lab and supervising and being involved with the research. That’s a pretty heavy duty commitment, and realistically, is more than one person can handle. And on top of that she’s an associate professor at a university. Sorry, but I can’t see how this is actually feasible for one woman. Also, I know from experience, that explaining my job to someone depends on their familiarity with the subject. There are a few scenes where Hayden is describing what she does to Beck, and while I understand what she’s talking about, there’s no way he would. In reality, you’re going to talk to your audience in terms they will understand. What Hayden says would be appropriate if she was out to lunch with another scientist, not with a bartender with no science background. These are little, picky details, but they jump out at me. They might not make an impact on another reader who would just gloss over the job details and be content to know Hayden is a scientist. There are also some times where I feel the geeky scientist card is overplayed. Just because she works in science doesn’t mean she’d automatically be worried that she’s not attractive enough for a man like Beck, or that being called ‘smart’ would be an insult left over from her high school days.

Beck fulfills his expected role as a playboy who is looking for sex without commitment. He definitely comes across as a fun-loving adventurous guy who is always looking for a good time and likes to be spontaneous. He’s handsome and he knows it too, so his ego definitely doesn’t need more stroking. But what you see on the surface masks the effect of the time he spent in the military. As a dedicated soldier for nine years, he served his country honorably and his life now is a like a pressure-valve to relieve the fallout from all those stressful times. He has a fractious relationship with his parents who never understood his desire to join the military and expected him to work for his father’s company. He’s got inherited wealth from a trust fund but he doesn’t share that information with anyone but his close friends, not wanting the attention it would draw. He used some of his money to start a charity to benefit veterans’ families and really, he comes across as a good guy. Combine that with his skills in the bedroom and it’s not hard to see why Hayden would enjoy spending time with him.

Still, the sexy and fun times they have together, where Beck introduces Hayden to some of his adventurous pastimes and they share some steamy scenes doesn’t change the conflict in their priorities. Beck is all about fun and Hayden is all about work and this clash won’t make their relationship progress unless they can be honest with each other that their feelings are changing. There is some family conflict to force the issues between them and in the end, they realize that being together is worth the compromises they have to make. My overall feeling about Body Shot is that it’s not going to win any awards for originality but will please readers looking for a light read with an abundance of sexy scenes.

I received a free copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Apologies in advance, I'm obviously in a miserable book reviewing phase but I was so disappointed with this book. I have read other books by Kelly Jamieson and really liked them so I leapt at the chance to read this when it appeared on NetGalley but I really didn't like it and had to admit I couldn't face reading any more of it at 57%.

Hayden is a serious, introverted, workaholic: she works fourteen hours a day, seven days a week running her own company which does medical research into cancer. Her best friend Carrie, a model, persuades her to go out one night and they end up at a tequila tasting evening at a local bar.

Beck and his two friends run the bar. They are former Navy SEALs and adrenaline junkies. Beck is actually fabulously wealthy as a result of a trust fund and a billion dollar inheritance from his grandfather.

This is supposed to be an opposites attract kind of novel, geeky science nerd girl meets hot Navy SEAL who brings her out of her shell etc. Unfortunately, for me the nerdy science girl lasted all of 10 minutes then Hayden is wearing sexy underwear and short skirts, allowing people to take tequila shots off her belly in the bar and suddenly a sex goddess. Also, I know Beck runs a tequila bar but I began to feel that the book was sponsored by a tequila distillery!

I love, love, love the nerd meets hot guy trope but I really like it when the girl stays true to her origins. This book didn't really work for me but I still like Kelly Jamieson as an author and will look out for other books.

Bumped for release.

-Nerdy girl meets hot Navy SEAL plus alot of tequila: That sentence alone usually has me all in and was definitely what drew me to this book. Ms. Jamieson’s books have been hit or miss with me, but I’m ever the optimist so I wanted to really like this. The story has all the elements, but for a story about a biochemist, it’s lacking in some basic chemistry.

-Here’s the dealio: You have Hayden, the aforementioned hot but nerdy biochemist who’s searching for a cure for cancer. Then you have Beck, the neglected billionaire/hot Navy SEAL who just so happened to have opened up a restaurant/bar with his two besties, Marco and Cade called Conquistadors. They have a tequila tasting (the most detailed part of the story), Hayden and her bestie show up and Beck sees Hayden. Tequila is tasted, among other things and then your standard romance happens.

-It’s super low angsty: I’m all for a straightforward character-driven romance and it’s clear that this is the goal. There’s no big action sequences or secret plots. Nothing wrong with that. However, the characters then have to really shine to make that type of story work. Hayden and Beck never reached the type of depth necessary to carry this story. They really needed stronger personalities to make this work and unfortunately, both seemed sketched out.

-With lots o’ sex comes ….nah too easy: They hook up early and fairly frequently. It’s their main connection and with it comes alot of the “I don’t know why I’m doing this” kind of statements as they’re drawn together despite neither wanting anything serious. You know, the usual. I think that’s the problem.

-Needed a good kick to up the spice factor: Lots of sex does not a hot story make. I could believe in the attraction at first, but there was a lack of spark to make all those combustion references work. Neither were quite sure why they couldn’t stay away from each other and the story didn’t show enough to make it clear to me either.

description
It was just ok. It all felt very standard, like an equation that in theory should work, but in reality, when the pieces should create that magic that any good romance has, it just fizzles out.

Hayden and Beck were sizzling hot together. He's a sweet, sexy and charming ex Navy SEAL, bar owner/tender, secret millionaire adrenaline junkie who is all about having fun. She's a smart, sweet but rigid scientist/researcher who spends too much time working and not enough time having fun. What started off as just "casual" (but seriously hot) fun between the 2 of them soon developed into something much, much more and I loved reading the progression of their relationship.

The secondary characters Marco and Carrie were also really interesting. I would love to read a book about them.

This wasn't a bad book. However, I did like the second one better. I feel that Hayden and Beck were an okay couple. I mostly enjoyed their story. The good news is that because I had already read the next book I knew that it was all going to work out. I now just hope that the last couple will likable too.

Brainiac, uptight scientist meets bartending retired Navy SEAL, and the chemistry is combustible. Lots of sexy times, but they become ingrained into each other's lives. Somehow Hayden wasn't all that believable as an intense biochemist running her own company. I needed to see more of her in her element rather than Beck taking her out of it with his excursions. Loved the dual POV, but there needed to be a bit more tension in the story. I needed to marinate (and so did Beck) in all of Hayden's geekiness a bit more often. 3.5 rounded to 4 stars.

CLIFF HANGER: No

SYNOPSIS:
The bestselling author of the Heller Brothers series stirs up a tempting cocktail of fun and seduction as a sexy SEAL-turned-bartender treats a buttoned-up scientist to a wild weekend . . . and a change of heart.

Former Navy SEAL Beck Whitcomb left a world of privilege to prove he could make his own way. Money, mansions, expensive cars—none of it could heal the loss of his older brother, or buy his parents’ love. Now, after using his trust fund to open the Conquistadors tequila bar with his brothers-in-arms, Beck has it all: good friends, fine liquor, and hot hookups. When it comes to women, commitment’s not his thing—until he gets a taste of the pretty professor who walks into his bar . . . and winds up in his bed.

Hayden Miles knows all too well that emotional decisions can lead to heartbreak, and nothing screams “bad decision” like a playboy bartender with inked biceps and a wicked smile. Still, their chemistry is off-the-charts explosive—and Hayden knows her chemistry. For once, this good girl longs to let loose. But is she willing to risk the pain to quench her thirst? With the promise of more on the table, Hayden’s eager to believe . . . before she misses her shot.

MY THOUGHTS:
This is the first book in the new series by Kelly Jamieson and I really liked it. It was a sweet love story with some very steamy sexy scenes. Who doesn’t love a story with an extremely sexy ex-military guy and a beautiful nerdy professor!

Beck description

Beck is portrayed as this hot guy player, but he shows that he really has a sensitive side that he doesn’t show anyone, only Hayden. He’s fun, generous with not only his money, but his time. He is loyal to his friends that he considers his family, as he has a very strained relationship with his parents since his brother died when they were teenagers. After he graduated from college, he joined the Navy and became a Seal. He never felt like he could please his parents and he didn’t want to work in the family business, Whitcomb Industries, and take over for his father when he retired. It was not for him. Not many people know that Beck comes from a privileged wealthy background. He looks like he belongs in a rock band, man bun, tattoos and extremely good looking. He is not into committed relationships, he just wants to keep it light, fun and sexy. Until he meets Hayden!

Hayden description

Hayden is a brilliant biochemist, she has her doctorate and not only runs her own company, but is on faculty at the University of California San Diego. She is working on the cure for cancer. She works all the time and her best friend wants her to get out and have fun. Hayden is not athletic in the least and is klutzy. She first meets Beck when he rescues her from falling on her butt after she runs into a post while reading her email on her phone. Hayden is dumbstruck by this handsome man and says only a few words to him and then scurries away. They meet again when her best friend Carrie gets them tickets to a tequila tasting party at a local bar/restaurant that Beck owns with his partners and Seal buddies. Hayden sees Beck behind the bar and he notices her too, but it takes him a minute to figure out it is the girl from the street, but boy did she go from a very pretty up tight business woman to a gorgeous hot woman!

They have an instant sexual attraction and their chemistry is combustible. They truly bring out the best in each other. Beck gets Hayden to loosen up and have fun and not let work rule her life. Hayden gives Beck the sense of family that she shares with Beck while taking care of her aunt and uncle. They both share the personal loss of their immediate family, Beck his brother and Hayden, her parents. As their relationship develops it goes from just having fun and hookups to both wanting more, but afraid to take that leap. You are taken on a journey of seeing how these two unlikely people make their relationship work. You see the beauty of discovery when they both realize just how special that person is by their thoughts and deeds. There is of course miscommunication and secrets kept that eventually come out and blow up in their faces, but you are just going to have to read the story to find out how it all plays out! There is so much more to the story then the little snippets I am giving you.

If you love a sweet and sexy read, then you really should give this book a try!

I got my hands on the ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review ;) after reading and loving another book written by her... „Shut out” to those of you who will be curious which one ;) I was more than happy when I found out I can request another book by the same author... and although the writing style was still great, I enjoyed it a bit less than that previous one... let me tell you why ;)

Let me start with our main couple, because to be honest I think it was the main reason why I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would ;) don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adored Beck ;) he was all smooth-talking and charming ex-Navy SEAL turned co-owner of a bar… and with his tattoos, smiles and flirting I was all in a pudle by the end of the first scene with him ;) and I regret nothing ;) no, my problems were with Hayden… well, not at first ;) let me try to explain ;) it’s another one of those they-really-are-like-night-and-day type of situations… where Beck was open and talkative, trying to live his life and be happy, Hayden was totally different… a biochemist doctor and researcher, absolutely focused on work… an admirable work, yes, but it took over her whole life… she was definitely more closed off and awkward… a bit shy and, well… I’m not really sure how to explain it in the best way, but she was definitely peculiar… like because of the fact she was a different kid from the start, without many friends, she grew up to be an equally different adult, not really adapted to function fully in society… look, I had no problems with her at the beginning, because yours truly can be painfully awkward in social interactions as well, so I could relate to some of her troubles and feelings… but the more I read about her, the less I liked her… mind you, it never veered in the „hate” department, but I had troubles understanding some of her actions and decisions…

That is also why I had some small issues with Beck and Hayden together… I loved that they started with this insane attraction between them… ;) let’s not kid ourselves, people are not always in the mood to read about a slow-burn romance… sometimes we need a hot and fast romance as well ;) it’s all in the diversity and picking the book that suits your current mood the best ;) so back to our main couple ;) they start hot-and-heavy with what’s supposed to be a one-night-stand sort of thing for them… so no one is more shocked than Beck when he wants more from Hayden… well, maybe she is just as surprised as him ;) so this whole thing starts very unexpectedly between them and day after day, interaction after interaction… things start to change... ;) I loved to see how they influenced each other... how the time they spent together changed them... ;) but of course we all know that there has to be some drama before we all get the happy ending we’ve been waiting for, and the way she acted around that time was another reason why I had troubles really liking her... but worry not, I won’t go into more details... no spoilers from me ;)

Besides our main couple this book definitely does a very good job at introducing quite a few potential future main characters ;) I want to name three of them for you today ;) so we have Carrie, Hayden’s best friend ;) she’s a model who wants to pursue her passion of photography… and I absolutely loved her ;) she was such a good friend to Hayden and I am totally hoping that book #2 will be about her ;) and then there’s Marco and Cade, Beck’s friends and co-owners of the bar… they met during training and quickly became friends ;) they appeared in a scene here and there throughout the whole book and I have no troubles seeing them as the heroes of their own stories at some point in the future ;)

Overall it was a good book ;) by any means don’t be discouraged from trying it out just cause I had some minor problems with it ;) the writing style was great and the chapters flew by ;) my issues were connected solely to my personal preferences as a reader so I am absolutely sure that some of you will fall in love with this story and this couple ;) and don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed the majority of the book ;) after all, I gave it 4 stars for a reason ;) it’s a good rating and this is definitely a good review ;) so be sure to give it a try if it sounds interesting to you ;) and hopefully you’ll love it more than me ;)

XOXO

Damn, this book. Simply put, I loved it!! I’ve been really looking forward to reading this one, having become a big fan of Kelly Jamieson’s of late, and it not only didn’t disappoint, it far exceeded any expectations I might have had.

I was hooked from page one. The story is a pretty simple one—good girl meets bad boy—which meant that the personalities and quirks of these characters was the real attraction. And holy moly, both Hayden and Beck were wholly lovable.

Hayden was this dorky, nerdy, slightly awkward Professor—crazy smart, and just needing a key to unlock the fun girl lurking within. And that key was undoubtedly Beck. Tattooed, man-bunned, former Navy SEAL Beck, who dirty talked like it was his job, but was a soft-bellied sweetheart underneath it all. They were explosive together, and damn, some of their scenes—including but not limited to the titular body shot—were incredibly hot. Like, third-degree-burns-from-holding-my-Kindle-so-tightly HOT.

I don’t know what to tell you, except that Body Shot made me smile, so big. It made me laugh more than once—there were these adorable, playful passages that showed what strong chemistry Hayden and Beck shared not just with each other, but with their friends also. It was beyond sexy, and completely charming in its overall simplicity.

And it set-up the upcoming books in the Last Shot series wonderfully, with a little mystery and a handful of unanswered questions. I am already anticipating the next book—which I really, really hope will be Marco and Carrie’s—as much as I anticipated this one. Which means, a whole hell of a lot.

(Psst, I am throwing this in, as someone that rarely shares quotes, because it made me laugh and reflect on all the dog-like commands I see in romance—which I’ve oft wondered about:

‘“Lie down and roll over.” He twirled his index finger.
“Arf.”
A surprised laugh barked out of him. “Jesus. Okay, I’m sorry, that did kind of sound like I was talking to a dog.”

Anyone looking for a fun, down and dirty read? Look no further than Body Shot! Kelly Jamieson has woven quite the sexy romantic tale with Beck and Hayden.

Beck is former Navy SEAL, who just so happens to come from money—big money. Big enough money that he’s used just part of his trust fund to finance Conquistadors, a tequila bar with his two best friends. He’s quite the catch…if he’d let himself be caught. He’s gorgeous, has great friends, a thriving business and women falling at his feet. But Beck’s knocked to his knees one night when he lays eyes on Hayden Miles.

Hayden is a brilliant scientist. She’s all about proven, repeatable facts. Romantic love really doesn’t fit into her “square box” world. At the urging of her best friend Carrie, Hayden is talked into going to a tequila tasting at Conquistadors, but what she wasn’t counting on “tasting” the hot and sexy bartender.

The sexual sparks fly as do the romantic undertones. But are Beck and Hayden ready for real love? Something permanent beyond their amazing chemistry?

I really enjoyed this book. Beck and Hayden were so very likeable, very genuine. Their reactions and responses were so true to their characters, and I loved Beck’s interactions with Marco and Cade. Their friendship runs deep—as evidenced by the heap of shit they give each other—and they’re all devoted to the success of the business.

It’s interesting how the family dynamic comes into play in the story, too. Beck’s relatively estranged from his, and Hayden is so grateful her aunt and uncle took her in when her parents died, that she’s doing too much to help them. I LOVED Beck’s talk with her uncle. It was perfect and just what needed to be said.

It’s all the small things, like said talk, that built this up to a fantastic book, and I can’t wait for more from this awesome group of friends. ~ Missy, 5 stars

3.5 ~ Adorkable ~ Stars

I loved this author's writing style. She flowed nicely, had great character build up and the heat she packed into every sizzling scene was scorching!

Meet Hayden, Science Girl from the world of intellect.
She was serious, introverted, passionate about science and health and her business, and most men in her experience weren’t interested in proteomics, metabolomics and signaling pathways.

Meet Beck, sexy ex SEAL and (now) bartender from the world of physical, carnal pleasure.
"...you need more fun in your life. And I’m the perfect guy to have fun with.”

I loved the chemistry between these two and how even though they were as different as a biology chemist and a bartender can be they were still great together. They completed each other and provided that extra support they each needed. They acknowledged their differences and embraced their individuality. The bantering back and forth was sexy and flirty and damn entertaining. A very good start to a smoking new series. Can't wait to catch up with the rest of these sexy SEALs!!

Favorite moments
The tequila tasting night ;-)

Tension snapped around them and she had a feeling she was about to demonstrate the principle of spontaneous combustion.

“Exothermic internal reaction,” she murmured. “Followed by thermal runaway.”

His eyebrows notched together. “Um, what?”

“And finally, ignition,” she finished. “Spontaneous combustion.”

He tilted his head to one side, reached for her glass of Don Julio and took a drink. “Yeah.”

“Is that cooling you off?”

“Nope.” He fastened his hot gaze on her again. “Not even a little. Despite your nerdy talk.”

She sighed and dropped her head. “I know. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t apologize. It’s hot. And cute.”

Favorite Lines

“You had me at diamonds raining on Jupiter. Not just gorgeous, but smart too.”

“I’m such a dork,” she muttered.
He laughed. “Adorkable. Come on, let’s go analyze some sand.”

“Nobody touches you but me, gorgeous. Got it?”

And honorable mention to the guy talk ...

“You can’t go wrong if you shield your dong.”

description

I wish that I had read a book by Kelly Jamieson before because holy hell ... this was an amazing book and boy, she sure does create steamy characters. Within the first few pages, I wanted a Beck. More than one would work also ...

Hayden and Beck have to be two of my favorite characters that I've come across in a very long time. I instantly connected with Hayden because she was so stuck in her own head that she couldn't see what was in front of her: a gorgeous man who finds her absolutely beautiful. She just has this self doubt that is so undeniably realistic because we've all been there. We've all been so into someone else and thought that they were out of our league and sometimes, just sometimes, this object of our affections thinks the same thing about us! All of that just made me love Hayden and absolutely adore Beck.

This man did not give up and the chase that ensued was nothing short of enchanting. I was sucked into this book so quickly because of Beck. He's that mans-man ... he's a Navy Seal, he's tough as hell and at the same time, such a sweet guy. Basically the perfect balance. Don't get me wrong, I actually don't enjoy reading about those "perfect" guys because how boring! But Jamieson pulled it off because Beck had these little insecurities and jealousies that were actually adorable. Never knew jealousy could be attractive but it was in this case.

Anyway, I could go on and on about these characters but I don't want to spoil (anything else) for you. The plot was also just as good as the characters. I literally read this in a day. I couldn't put it down because the plot was so entertaining. I was always looking forward to what all of the characters were going to be getting themselves into - this includes the secondary characters, I enjoyed them almost as much as Hayden and Beck.

There I go, talking about the characters again. I just can't get them out of my head!! I've won the book lottery lately because once again, this is one of the best books that I've read this year and I can't wait to see what the rest of this series holds. New author to add to my favorites! So go get this one, you won't be disappointed.

I've read quite a few of Kelly Jamieson's books and I've loved every single one of them. Body Shot is the first in her new series, "Last Shot". Jamieson has a perfect balance of romance and sizzling bedroom (or office, shower, changing room etc.) scenes in her books that makes her one of my favorite romance authors.

Hayden is a biochemist and is very focused on her work to find a cure for cancer. Cancer took both of her parents when she was just a teenager, and left her aunt and uncle to care for her. Her aunt recently broke her hip so now she has that to focus on now too, leaving her too busy to have fun or date. She is not spontaneous at all. She likes to have things perfectly planned out. When she was younger she was teased because she was always shy and more interested in her books than the things other kids were into.

Beck is a former Navy SEAL that owns a tequila bar with two of his friends. He is all about fun. He doesn't take himself or relationships seriously, choosing a love em and leave em lifestyle. He comes from a very wealthy family, but they are not close. He inherited money from his grandfather when he passed but he doesn't live extravagantly.

I loved these two together because they were such opposites: the serious professor with the thrill seeking bartender. It was so much fun watching Beck get her to live a little bit and try some new things. Their "no strings attached", "just for fun" sexual relationship was super hot and I thought the feelings between them built at a nice pace and didn't feel forced.

As a side note, I REALLY hope the next book in the series is Hayden's best friend and Marco.... Somethings going on there, I know it! lol

“For a moment it felt like the first time he’d jumped out of an airplane–poised on the edge, terrified and shaking, convinced he was about to die. But he had to do it. He had to jump.”

I’m just going to keep this review short and sweet. I thought this book was a lot of fun. It was sweet and sexy. I loved the bad boy falls for the nerdy smart girl story-line. Hayden and Beck couldn’t have been more opposite for each other, but I think that fueled their fire. Beck was wild and just loved to live his life. Hayden’s world revolved around work. She didn’t have much time for anything else. However, the sparks between these two were undeniable and watching the two of them fall couldn’t have been more entertaining. I loved seeing Beck bring Hayden to life and experience all of the things that she was missing out on.

Overall, I thought this was an enjoyable read. It was quick, fun and entertaining. For the most part, it was light and had very little drama. I thought the romance was sweet and I really enjoyed all the sexy, steamy moments. This is my first book by this author and I look forward to checking out more from her in the future.

I liked the first encounter between the main characters, but somewhere after the first chapter i completely lost interest in the book. There was something missing, was it the emotional connection between the MCs or between me and the MCs? I don't know, I only know that I skipped the middle part of the book and only read the end for closure without caring what happened in between ... Short and to the point.
After starting reading the book something in the H behaviour bothered me, he was leaning too much to the flirting with other women side, after he met the heroine.
It smelled bad to me, so, I went back to the reviews of other readers andddddd color me surprise! one of my GF said that the H still pushed the h away in the 80% mark of the book.

Goodby.

This book wasn't only enjoyable it was informative. I have to say that I learned a LOT about Tequila and you can see that Kelly Jamieson really did her due diligence with researching the subject. I have been a fan of Kelly Jamieson's for a while now and when I saw that she had a new series out I had to grab it...and I am so happy that I did.

I Loved Beck! He is a former Navy SEAL and now he co-owns a Tequila Bar with two of his friends, he is also the bartender at Conquistadors, but that's not all....(yep not telling, it's a big spoiler if I do). Anyway, Marco decided that they should have a Tequila tasting one night at Conquistadors and that is where Beck meets Hayden.

Hayden is a workaholic, but she is a scientist on the hunt for something big, all of her time is spent in the lab or teaching or helping out her Aunt & Uncle (which she does quite a bit). I really enjoy when the good girl that finds the right guy to cut loose with and that is exactly what we have here. The chemistry between Beck and Hayden was great. I couldn't get enough of these two and I really hope that we see them in the next book which will be Marco's story.

This looks like so much fun and I know that Beck and Hayden had a great time on the waterBody Shot (Last Shot, #1) by Kelly Jamieson

I love a story where the characters are so real that you actually care about what happens to them. Even though Beck never received the love and acceptance he needed from his snooty and self-centered parents, he didn't allow that to stop him from being a loving, caring friend to those he cares about. Even though billionaire, ex-Navy Seal, Beck and research professor, Hayden are polar opposites, Beck treats Hayden like the queen she is. I loved the background info on tequila tasting, cave exploring and the other exciting dates these two shared. Nicely Done!

Body Shot (Last Shot #1) by Kelly Jamieson has the makings of a great romance novel, and for all purposes it appears to be, but there's something missing here that left me disappointed. The hero Beck is awesome and yummy, and really made Body Shot shine, but I found the heroine Hayden lacking. The chemistry between these two at times seemed forced, plus the writing had some editing issues. There were more passive words or actions than active, and I noticed the use of the same word on the same page multiple times. I think another round of editing could have helped make this read much crisper and more enjoyable, including toning down Hayden's seemingly Mary Sue goody-goody personality. Because Beck was more of an original with his characteristics and personality, Hayden disappeared into the background. At certain points I wondered what Beck liked about Hayden or was attracted to because she was more one-dimensional.

Beck is a former SEAL who owns a bar right near that specializes in tequila. Beck also comes from money. He's not friendly with his parents because they want him to be this buttoned up executive for the family's business. But because of his grandparents, Beck is very rich from the money they left him. So to help his two buddies with their dreams, Beck invests his fortune in the bar, which he loves running. Beck is also an adrenaline junkie who sky dives and jumps from planes. One night the bar has a tequila tasting, and that's where he meets Hayden. At first Hayden wasn't planning on going to the bar, but her good friend convinces her. Hayden is stressed and running on fumes, trying to keep her company afloat and receive funding, which would be millions of dollars. Hayden is a very intelligent but a book smart woman who barely goes out or has fun. Her life is about to change when she meets Beck.
Hayden does something so naughty and unlike her. Within a few hours of meeting Beck, she has hot sex with him in his office. They rock both their worlds. From them on Beck wants to date Hayden, but Hayden is just too busy. Beck tries to get Hayden to let down her hair, so to speak.

Body Shot is basically Hayden and Beck going on dates, eating, going to the beach and having a lot of steamy and hot sex. There isn't a lot of angst or drama here, other than Beck's issues with his family, and where he comes from. Hayden is worried about having too much fun with Beck, which may make her work suffer. These two are opposites in the way they think and live their lives, so will they get their HEA?

Body Shot is an okay romance, and Kelly can sure write great love scenes. Beck may seems like an alpha hero because of his former career as a SEAL, including his take charge personality, but when it comes to Hayden, he's a gentleman (behind closed doors he's very different). Hayden is a typical type of heroine, but she comes across as wishy-washy at times that grew tedious. Also I just couldn't see what attracted Beck to her. She's nice, hardworking and dedicated to her career and friends, but she didn't wow me like I wanted her to. Beck is the reason to read Body Shot, while Hayden just fades away.

Body Shot should appeal to fans who like some spicy sensuality and sizzle in their contemporary romance. If you can put aside Hayden's underwhelming personality and some editing issues regarding the passive verbs and actions, then you'll probably enjoy Body Shot.

Body Shot is the first book in the Last Shot series by Jamieson and holy cow is it hot! This series is different then her other ones and the three main heroes of this series are not only bar owners but also ex navy SEALS! So where is this bar and who are these extremely hot new guys? You have to read to find out ;-)

The story starts off with everyone telling Hayden she needs to get out more and not work so much. After having lunch with her best friend, Carrie and her begging Hayden to start trying new things Hayden leaves lunch agreeing only to run smack right into a pole. That's not even the embarrassing part nope a sexy stranger sees it all and comes to her aid.

Beck is a ex navy SEAL and co owns a tequila bar with his friends Cade and Marco. The food profit is down but they are still trying to find new ways to earn more more money. This starts with a tequila tasting and low and behold the woman who ran into the pole shows up.

This two are a very unlikely pair but I think that's why I really enjoyed this story so much. Hayden is a huge geek but I really enjoyed how Beck actually listened and paid attention to her even when he wasn't sure what she was talking about.

Jamieson did things a bit different in this story which I loved. The characters have a hot sexy scene after only their second meeting in the office on the tequila tasting night. It was extremely hot and out of the ordinary for Hayden. Then these two start to date and Beck really does help Hayden live a little more even though with her work will still always come first.

This couple had great chemistry from the beginning and I really enjoyed the blooming of their relationship. The sex scenes were hot and not overly done. Jamieson had these two build on from what started as a one night thing to turning it into a HEA that seriously won me over.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this series will grow. Marco looks interested in Carrie but it looks like Carrie isn't feeling it. Hopefully these two will end up getting together in a future book! Overall this was just what I needed at the moment to get me unstuck from my reading funk. Pre- order Body Shot today!

Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

What happens when you cross a bartending ex-Navy Seal with a geeky biochemist? Lots and lots of sensual, sexy chemistry with a bit of adventure thrown in for good measure. Low on angst, high on pleasure and two people falling in love without even realizing it made Body Shot by Kelly Jamieson a treat to read.

When Hayley Miles literally runs into Beck Whitcomb she has a hard time composing her geeky self so walking into a bar and seeing him serving drinks throws her life into a tailspin, funny thing is Beck is just as easily flustered and their explosive chemistry has them both acting out of character.

There was something so sweet yet so very sexy about the way these two interacted from the first time they met to their first intense sexual encounter and throughout this book. I loved how easy they were with one another and how they both shared so much about themselves and each other with very little prompting. It was like they just could not hold back from one another in any way, shape or form.

I loved that Beck was attracted to all parts of Hayley including her geeky mind and that he wasn't threatened by how start she is or how important her work is to her. Sure he enjoyed getting her to take time out for fun, but he understood how important her research was and he supported it. While Hayley made some snap assumptions about Beck, she soon began to see what a great man and good guy he was and she was impressed by his accomplishments and his dedication. I love that she enjoyed peeling back all of his layers and really getting to know each and every part that made him special. They were both so good at that and that not only allowed the reader to really get to know these characters, but they got to know each other very well too.

Completely engaging and very entertaining Body Shot was an amazing romance from beginning to end and I am so looking forward to the next two books in this series.

~ Book provided by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion

I've only read one book by Kelly Jamieson so far - though I have her box set of the Heller Brothers on my Kindle.

At first I wasn't convinced by Body Shot, because Hayden was a bit boring, but thankfully I have a review policy of giving every book 20 - 25% to convince me and convince me it did.

I loved Beck - he was hot and dirty and totally a nice guy in a body of a badboy - and while it took some time for Hayden to win me over she still did and I would have loved her too if not for the stupid thing she did near the end. So I ended up "only" liking her. She was still pretty cool, though. I liked her determination to be good at everything she does.

Apart from my initial boredom of the book I really liked it and read it through in one sitting after I got over the first two chapters.

I liked Beck's POV a bit more than Hayden's, just because he was more carefree and funny. Also he brought out another side of Hayden.

The conversations between Beck and Hayden were hilarious and I had a few good laughs. Those two definitely had some serious chemistry and that lingerie shop scene was really steamy. In fact all their sex scenes were smoking hot.

The twist near the ending was a bit much and in my opinion too obvious but it made sense when you take the whole book in consideration.

I will definitely be reading the second book of this series - should there be one.
