Liam sees black mould when no one else can. It covers the walls whenever ghosts are near. Cleaning doesn't work, and the stench of rotten food never goes away.
Now, the only thing that shuts out the mould, the malicious dead, is alcohol.
But the demonic forces keep calling to him, drawing him back to his childhood home and the dark presence in the basement.
To lead a normal life, he must ignore his past and resist his extraordinary gifts—otherwise the grey-haired woman will finish what she started.
The first book in a brand-new supernatural series.
Born in the small Welsh town of Llanelli, Steven began writing stories at the age of eight. His inspiration came from his love for ‘80s horror movies, and novels by Stephen King and the late Richard Matheson.
During Steven’s teenage years, as well as being a black-belt kickboxer, he became a great lover of writing dark and twisted poems – six of which gained him publications with Poetry Now, Brownstone Books, and Strong Words.
Over the next few years, and after becoming a father and a husband, Steven's passion drove him towards writing short stories, gaining him further publication with Dark Moon Digest: an American horror magazine. His terrifying tales of the afterlife and zombies gained him positive reviews, particularly his story, Burning Ambition, which also came runner up in a Five-stop-story contest.
Finally, in 2013, after years of hard work (and countless rejection letters), Steven got his debut novel, Fourteen Days, published by Barking Rain Press.
Liam sees things no one else does. He sees people and a growing black mold. After he grows, up is drawn back to the place he never wanted to go. What is the mold? Is it connected to the woman he sees. Now, he must face something that claims human lives. Can he save himself and others? Characters you love suspense filled chilling read.
Mould is part detective, monster, and ghost story that is engaging and hard to put down. Well written novella with lots of twists and relatable characters, especially Liam Tate himself. I'm really looking forward to more Liam Tate tales. Another great read by Steven Jenkins.
This is a terrible book. The writing is wonderful, the characters drawn with grace, descriptions help bring you into a place or a scene or an emotion. Even though there is a large part of the plot that is "supernatural," yet the resolution is within the structure of the plot, nicely presented and while hinting at future developments, it still is resolved and the story has an ending.
But it is dark - and because it is well-written, it makes an influence. I will not be reading other books because this one so effectively disturbed my spirit that - given the times in which we live - this is NOT a world into which I need to escape.
If you like dark - evil - supernatural - you will do well to buy this book.
Liam Tate sees dead people. Whenever he sees dead people the mould appears and turns everything nasty. Liam tries to drown out the dead people with alcohol, coke & rum to be exact.
Liam is the only one who can see the dead people or the mould. He is afraid to tell anyone his secret as he is afraid they will lock him up and throw away the key. Liam and his mom move in with his grandfather but his old home keeps calling him back to it.
No matter which road Liam takes it always leads him back to his old home. He is always having to take a detour to where ever he is traveling because of an accident. If it is not an accident then it is something else.
The reason doesn’t matter as he is always pulled back by the house itself or maybe it is something more sinister that lives inside the house. Something evil that doesn’t belong there any longer.
I was drawn in by Liam and his story in Mould just like he was drawn in by his old home. I was hooked by Liam’s story the moment I opened Mould and took that plunge into the abyss of his dark and sinister story.
Mould kept me on the edge of my seat all the way to the end. I couldn’t have laid it down if I had wanted to as I was hooked. I can’t wait to read more of Liam’s story in future books in the Liam Tate Thriller series.
I highly recommend that you give Mould a try if you like dark and sinister stories! Grab your copy of Mould today for an eerie beginning to a new series!
Like many of Mr. Jenkins other works, I was holding on with tooth and nail to get to the next chapter. To figure out the what and why of everything going on. I’ve never liked long reviews taking away from the story, so just trust me and buy it!
Yikes. I renovate old houses for charity and black mold is a common find and ow it's even more cringe-worthy😬Thank you Mr Jenkins for really getting my creep on lol. Happy this is gonna be a series, Looking forward to more Liam
Excellent first book in a new series. As usual the author’s protagonists are believable; gritty and flawed, but struggling on regardless. The concept of the story is original and chilling. Can’t wait for the next book in the series
A really good, short story that despite its shortness, was packed full of great characters and a general overriding sense of the creepy.
I don't really read a lot of supernatural books now but every now and again I like to hark back to my teenage years and indulge myself in a bit of creepiness and Mould definitely hit the spot and I very much look forward to reading more in this new series to see which eerie place it takes me to next.
Many thanks to Steven Jenkins for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of Mould and for making me a part of his Advance Reader Team but this in no way influenced my thoughts on this start to a new series which I thoroughly enjoyed.
This is one of if not the best haunted house story that I have ever read, and I have read many dozens. The characters are very believable and likable. The paranormal elements, as explained, are also believable. That always helps me get into the book more when I can say to myself, "that could really happen." This one makes you wonder, could it?
This is a very creepy story. Mould can grow anywhere and can spread quickly, so this makes the plot more realistic. I kept turning the pages to find out how Liam was going to overcome his problem with the ghost. I would recommend it. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
I so loved this, a Haunting of sorts these are my favorite kind of books besides medical Thrillers. I just really enjoyed everything about this no complaints at all just great stuff, if you don't confront your past is may haunt you forever. I received this as an ARC and voluntarily choose to reveiw
This is a really good short story! A little too scary for me if I am honest! A great story with good ideas, nasty stuff! As always with Steven Jenkins, really well written, you won't be disappointed! I do recommend!
An excellent, well-written Ghost Horror story. Read in one go, couldn't put it. Definitely recommended. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Liam and his mom have moved often . His mom has supposedly found a home for them to live in. He doesn’t like the house or the ghost in the house. When the ghost visits his bedroom, he hides under the covers. Whenever Liam sees a ghost in this house, black mould covers the ceiling and corners of the room. He tries to tell his mother about the ghost but the ghost interferes. Liam worries that his mom might do something harmful to herself due to the ghost. Liam saves his mom from killing herself. Why did Liam’s mom try to kill herself? Why does the ghost linger in this house? Liam can see ghosts now and he doesn’t like being able to see them. When he sees his old home is in the process of being sold, he decides that he must confront the ghost so that it can’t hurt anyone else. Will he be successful?
The novel is a great scary story. It is creepy and continues to be more scary as time goes on. I could feel the “cold” from the ghost and see the mould and smell in the house. I liked finding out more about the ghost. It held my attention and found myself not wanting to be bothered doing anything else — just read. The ending was good but leaves me wanting to read the next book of this series.
Disclaimer: I received an arc of this book from the author. I wasn’t obligated to write a favorable review or any review at all. The opinions expressed are strictly my own.
This was a decent yet unremarkable horror novella. The day that young Liam Tate suffers a tragedy he is visited by a frightening and malevolent ghost that haunts his current house. It's never fully explained but after that he can see ghosts when not semi-inebriated and has terrible nightmares even though he and his mother have moved. He eventually returns to the house to end the reign of terror on all who take residence there. There are a lot of plot holes in this story and it wraps up leaving the door open for another novella (there is a number 2 in this series but I think I will be skipping it). While not really bad it was also not great so I give it a solid "meh" on my rating scale.
So I kept seeing this book and for months I kept putting off reading it. Finally I it borrowed and read it...and I'm glad I did! It has good character development and a good story. It also has a sequel which I like since I'm use to reading books that are long. I like Mr. Tates.character because hes a troubled soul that can see he dead when no one else can. That's all the spoilers your getting from me so go a head and get this book so you can find out more about Mr. Tate!
Crossing the line from thriller to horror, this is a ghost story like no other. A ghost that drives it's victims to self unaliving, this is such an emotional and dark book. I am so so happy the author gave such a great background on the ghost Lily. It was a surprise when that chapter came and I almost didn't know what was going on. But after a few paragraphs it hit me. I was terrified for Liam when he went back to the house to face Lily. Very eerie atmosphere and great build up of dread. Now I need to read the sequel!
Liam grew up in a house that he was deathly afraid of. At first, it's a smell...then the black mould and the more he experiences these things the more messed up things become. Because the smell and the mould are only mere signs that something not human is coming.
Enjoyed this very much...kind of a 6th Sense meets Quantum Leap and Liam Tate is a little crazy but that's ok...he has his Whiskey.
This was a fast-paced, interesting read, that I found I did not want to put down! Great, multi-faceted characters. Suspenseful and thrilling. Kept me intrigued from the first page to the last.
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
Liam and his mother move into a new house, there is a ghost and it start's visiting Liam in his bedroom, things get worse for Liam and his mother. How can he protect himsel? The mould in the house gets worse. Great book if you like horror. Another great book from Steven Jenkins. Can't wait for 2nd book so I can read it.
Don't let how long it took me to finish this book as a sign of how good this book is. I loved it! I'm finally able to pick up a physical book again and enjoy reading. This author is a true horror genius! I knew one of his books would get me out of my funk. Perfect for fall/spooky season. Great new series. Can't wait to dive into Devil!
I enjoyed the book but only gave a 4 star rating because of the effect it had on me. I think Steven Jenkins did a great job in writing this book but I think it was too real to me and made me sad that there was so much tragedy in that house. I have been in houses that felt alive, some felt dead and others menacing.
Absolutely phenomenal book from Mr Jenkins! As expected plenty of shocks and scares it also an underlying human story that hits home hard with me. I found this book hard to put down and I long for more. 15/10 chainsaws from me
What an intriguing story. Liam sees mould, unfortunately no one else does. No matter what he does, it won’t be cleaned. There’s danger everywhere, how will this all end. Can’t wait for more by this talented author.
Really incredible story. When I first read the description I almost passed on it but I'm so glad I gave it a read. Great story and characters and an overall great experience as a reader. If you're on the fence about it then please give it a shot. You won't be disappointed!
This was a quick read. I've recently started reading horror books since I can't find enough good horror movies. This one creeped me out (in a good way). It would make a good movie if they didn't screw it up.
