Set in the close-knit Amish community of Apple Creek, Ohio, this sweet Cinderella -inspired novel from the New York Times and USA Today bestselling and award-winning author is complete with a matchmaking pet rat, and will delight fans of heartwarming, wholesome fiction and readers of Charlotte Hubbard, Beverly Lewis, and Beth Wiseman.
Now that her friends are all marrying or moving away, Heart Beachy has started feeling lonely. Worse, everyone keeps asking when she’s going to find a man of her own. Don’t they realize Heart has her hands full at home with her widowed dad, too many chores, and a menagerie of needy, small animals? Besides, she doesn’t understand the fuss about marriage.
Newcomer Clayton Glick is utterly charmed by Heart—and completely confounded. He can’t figure out why this beautiful woman is as awkward as a teenager whenever he’s around, which is often now that he’s an apprentice to her blacksmith father. So Clayton starts assisting with Heart’s never-ending tasks, even helping her corral her unruly pets. How else can he court an adorably flustered woman who doesn’t know the first thing about courtship? Because courting is exactly what he intends . . .
Heart doesn’t know why her pulse hammers every time she sees Clayton. She only knows yielding to such emotions will mean trouble. . . . But maybe with a little faith—and the loss of a shoe—Clayton can convince her to join him on the road to happily ever after.

I loved this gentle sweet Amish Romance by Shelley Shepard Gray. Not only is it an Amish Romance but also the story includes the Christmas season. This book lifted me up away from my daily challenges for a while. The Author has blended different emotions and came up with a wonderful tale about an Amish Widower and his daughter and a young Amish man who grew up an orphan in a Foster care facility. A widow neighbor who is a caregiver among the Amish people is also a main character and plays an important part in this book. It all fits together in this uplifting, witty and unpredictable novel that kept me turning pages and enjoying every moment I spent reading this book. I found it to be a five star read!
I recommend this book to readers of Amish Romance Fiction, women’s fiction and Christian Fiction. It’s book three of The Amish of Apple Creek series by Shelley Shepard Gray. It can be read as a standalone. This book is scheduled to be released on 9/26/23.
I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions shared here in this review are my own.
AN AMISH CINDERELLA has everything I was craving! Its funny and heartwarming, serious and emotional at times and there was even a footwear mystery involved. Just like the Cinderella we have all grown up with. Shelley Shepard Gray is a fantastic story teller and she always leaves her readers wanting more. I have been reading her books for more than ten years and she has never disappointed me. Heart Beachy lost her mom a few years ago and she is just trying to move forward. Her Daed hires A new apprentice, Clayton, and Heart’s life is about to go through some major changes. On top of that, add in five rambunctious puppies and a pet rat named Spike that will surely pull on readers heart strings.

An Amish Cinderella is the third book in the "Amish of Apple Creek" and the moment that I saw the title and read the blurb, I instantly bought it. I knew very quickly that I wanted to read this one here. I absolutely adored what this author delivered within this book. If you want a sweet poignant take on Cinderella with the Amish twist, then this one must be on your list. I had such a fun time with this one. From everyone with the heroine, her relationship with her father, and the romance that develops between herself and her father's apprentice "Clayton". And we have some fun times with all the little creatures she befriends. There is a focus of healing and dealing with grief and finding love along the way. There is also such a calm vibe to the story that you normally find in an Amish romance. And there is low relationship angst, so that is another plus for it. Definitely an easy romance to relax into. Highly recommend for any readers that don't mind closed door, a slight spiritual focus or a sweet romantic relationship being developed.
Heart Beachy lives with her widowed father Levi and stays busy taking care of the household and numerous adopted pets. Levi is a brusque, no-nonsense blacksmith who takes on an apprentice and is a little leery about having Clayton around. The entire story is magical and engaging, with Heart full of hope, Levi overcoming bitterness and loss and Clayton emerging into a new world of family. I enjoyed how well-developed the characters were and how the plot flowed smoothly between the action in the house and out in the barn where Levi and Clayton worked together. Filled with heartwarming family love, friendship and hope, this is not-to-be-missed by anyone who loves a good Amish story with a pet rat as a likable and intelligent addition to the tale. I loved this book about a woman named Heart, who lives with her father, who is a blacksmith and also produces beautiful pieces of art. When Clayton arrives to be his apprentice, sparks fly immediately between the two. The title of the book fits the story perfectly since Heart is a beautiful girl who stays home and fixes food for father, keeps the house clean and prepares all the meals, looks after a pet rat, and a dog that has five puppies. I also liked Mary their neighbor, who was in love with Heart’s father. Heart’s mother had died years ago when she was much much younger.
An Amish Cinderella ( The Amish of Apple Creek #3 ) Shelley Shepard Gray An Amish Cinderella is the third book in The Amish of Apple Creek series. I really loved this cinderella story. This is Heart and Clayton’s story. Heart lives with her father, Levi, who is a Blacksmith and produces beautiful art that everyone loves. Clayton is a man looking for work and Levi needs an apprentice. Sparks fly right away between them. There is a fancy rat and some puppies that set this story off. Oh ,and there might be a two for one romance in this story. This is a wonderful story that will have you reading through the night. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
An Amish Cinderella is a romantic twofer. There are two romances, a fancy rat and 5 precious puppies. I really enjoyed this sweet read and loved the ending. *I was given a copy of this book by the publisher. This is my honest opinion.
I always enjoy a new Shelley Shepard Gray novel, but An Amish Cinderella is one of my favorites in recent memory! This story – and its characters – simply delighted me.
While this isn’t a true Cinderella retelling per se, there are several nods to the beloved fairy tale that are sure to please its fans like me. An overworked, underappreciated daughter. A missing shoe. A loyal dog. Even a cuddly pet rat with personality. And let me tell you… second only to my chicken phobia is my rodent phobia, but Shelley Shepard Gray’s fairy tale charm even made me like Spike, the aforementioned cuddly rat. I enjoyed this story on its own, to be sure, so if Cinderella isn’t your fave, don’t worry – the shared elements are very subtle. But since Cinderella IS my fave, I also delighted in seeing those nods scattered throughout this story.
There’s so much to love about An Amish Cinderella, but the number one reason for me is Levi Beachy. Heart’s gruff and often oblivious father had me chuckling all the way through this book. Gray has cleverly made him an endearing blend of infuriating and hilarious (often at the same time) and given him a surprisingly tender side that I delighted seeing come to the surface more and more as the story progressed. I loved Heart and Clayton and Mary too – and all the animals – but Levi is one of those reluctantly-lovable characters that stays with you.
Bottom Line: Rats, puppies, and apprentices, oh my! An Amish Cinderella by Shelley Shepard Gray is a book that made me smile from cover to cover. I loved the Cinderella elements but I also loved that it can stand on its own as a delightful story without any comparison to the fairy tale. Clayton and Heart’s friendship, banter, and eventual romance is sweet, swoony, and fun to read, as is the other romantic subplot in this novel. I especially adored Heart’s father Levi and his endearingly clueless & cranky self – and his scenes with Spike are some of my faves. An absolutely delightful story in every way!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
A beautiful modern day romance based on the fairy tale of Cinderella. Cinderella happens to be my favorite fairy tale and this new Amish romance from Shelley Shepard Gray does it justice.
Heart is such a sweet soul. She tries to do nothing but please everyone she some in contact with even the animals. That is how she ends up with Spike, a pet rat. I will admit she has a bigger heart than I. I don’t think I could have a pet rat no matter how cute it may be. Spike is the catalyst to bringing this family even closer.
Clayton has not had the luxury of living a typical family life. He has agreed to an apprenticeship with Heart’s father. In doing so, he becomes a part of the family and finds the love he never expected.
Go grab a copy of An Amish Cinderella and settle in for a feel good read. You won’t be disappointed. It is book three in the Amish of Apple Creek series but each book can be read as a standalone.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed above are solely my own opinions.
Another sweet read by Shelley Shepard Gray. Loosely based on the Cinderella fairy tale, it is an easy and enjoyable story sure to draw you in and keep you reading until the very end. Although it is the third in The Amish of Apple Creek series, it is not directly connected to the other books and reads well as a stand alone novel. If you enjoy Amish fiction by authors such as Wanda Brunstetter, Tracy Fredrychowshi, and Beverly Lewis, you will enjoy this clean Christian book. *I received a complimentary copy of this e-book from NetGalley and Kensington Books. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me a copy of this book in return for my honest opinions. Shelley Shepherd Gray is one of my favorite authors of Christian romance. Her books are so well written and always leave me feeling blessed. This one did not disappoint. You will truly enjoy ntje story, the characters and the wholesome romance.
When the rough and gruff Levi Beachy takes on Clayton Glick as an apprentice without informing his daughter, Heart Beachy, little did he know that things would begin looking and feeling a tad bid different. Such was the case for him as well as for Heart and Clayton. Surprises were in store for each of them and no one was quite ready for where things were going. Fortunately for them, some puppies and a mouse were there to help keep them in check. When you combine all of that together, you have a story of finding love in unexpected places which is sure to tug at your heart strings.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. All comments and opinions are voluntary and completely my own. (TBR 09/26/2023)

My thoughts: 🔖Page 145 of 251 Chapter 20 - This is going to be a quick read. The story is good; it's not predictable (obviously couples will get a happy ending), but I'm still trying to see what the story has to do with Cinderella. This isn't a retelling; other than the single father with a daughter, I don't see any resemblance. I'm enjoying the story, so this was just the break I needed.
My only issue with this book is the AI-looking cover; other than that, I loved everything about this story. It was fun. It didn't feel like a Christmas story although there was a mention of Christmas throughout the story, it felt very background to the main story except for Christmas Eve dinner this could have been February and I wouldn't have noticed. The Cinderella part popped up, and they were just as baffled as me. Overall, I enjoyed this story; I just was expecting something else based on the title.
Recommend to others?: Yes. It was nice and a bit unpredictable.
Amish of Apple Creek 1. Happily Ever Amish (2022) 2. Once Upon a Buggy (2023) 3. An Amish Cinderella (2023)
This is one of the best Amish stories I've read in a long time.
I was amazed by the depth of the characters and loved most of them from the beginning. The father took a while, but I loved his closeness to his daughter. I laughed at the antics with the animals.
The story kept my attention from the beginning, and I couldn't put it down. Easy to read, well-written with great descriptions. An uplifting and inspiring romance.
I won a copy in a Goodreads giveaway and chose to review it.
This story has two romances and some family drama. There is a rat, an accident, friendship, Christmas, and sculptures. I was surprised by the art. I was also surprised that this had two romances. I didn't expect one of them. I'm glad both couples eventually get a happy ending.
I just finished An Amish Cinderella, what a beautiful story of people who have lost loved ones, and moved on in the grieving process to finding love again! Highly recommended reading this book by Shelley Shepard Gray!
Letting go of his control, he was able to find joy.
Katie Beachy passing left a hole in the hearts of those she left behind. Her beloved daughter Heart and her devoted husband Levi. Time has passed and the two have set up a routine at home. Levi is in the business of shoeing horses and steel art that he is well known for. Heart takes care of her father and running center when it comes to Levi's rough edges. Sometimes Heart's father does not think about how he may come across. He does have a reputation but only a few know it is just his way.
Levi takes on a apprentice that becomes smitten with Heart very quickly. A sweet romance that is a little cheesy, quirky, and very sweet. Both Levi and Heart find joy in different ways after the death of their Katie. It answers the question what keeps you from joy. A great lesson to learn. Don't take yourself to seriously.
A special thank you to Kensington Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
*****I received this free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
This book is filled with so many things that make it great! A gruff father and his apprentice, a litter of puppies and a fancy white rat to name a few. Such a great Amish romance with lots of fun added in. A must read!
An Amish Cinderella by Shelley Shepard Gray is sweet and fun and will make you laugh. Heart and her dad Levi have made a life for themselves without her mama, who passed away unexpectedly. When Clayton comes to apprentice with Levi, both Heart and Levi find that they needed something more. And that God always shows up in His own perfect timing. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. I loved it!
The story over all was good. It took me a little by surprise as I was expecting a more Cinderella retelling based on the title and I didn’t feel like that was quite the story that was given. You do get to enjoy a double romance with this story though. I really liked Heart’s dad. He was a bit eccentric but he was a good caring man who just got lost in his own world sometimes. I try not to let a book cover sway me or throw me when I read a book, but like anyone, I do look at a cover to see what insights it can give me to a book. The cover looks great for spring or summer. But the story starts off in Winter just a a few weeks away from Christmas.
That aside if you enjoy Amish love stories, I think you will find this story pleasing and satisfying.
This was my first Amish book, so I wasn't really sure what to expect other than "Cinderella" being in the title and what my mom has read from many other Amish books. The story itself was okay, but overall I felt that I wasn't grounded in an Amish based story, and it being "An Amish Cinderella" is a gross overstatement.
Admittedly, I don't know a lot about Amish culture other than the very basics. Therefore, when it's mentioned that Heart had a fridge and freezer, and that her dad was an artist (and therefore surely internet was involved somewhere along the way for him to have such a huge range of clients as he did), it didn't feel Amish. More minimalist if anything. I wish things could've been explained a little more - such as the distinction between Amish and English. My mom explained that other Amish books do a better job of explaining things, such as freezers that don't use electricity but batteries or gasoline.
Also, I know Amish have a very strong faith, but one thing I noticed was while faith was mentioned, a lot of time passed in this novel but never once did the family go to church. Compared to other Amish books my mom has read, they all had portions of the book detailing church services. I was surprised this book didn't have one. Another reason I felt it wasn't Amish.
Then there was the whole reason I read this book. My mom wanted me to read an Amish novel since she enjoys them, and I said if I did it would be this one due to "Cinderella" being in the title. I tend to like fairytale retellings. Anyhow, "An Amish Cinderella" is a stretch. With fairytale retellings you expect certain elements to carry through. I feel there wasn't enough, and the few that were there was asking the readers to suspend the "Cinderella" idea too much. By the end of the novel, Heart had a stepmother, but she's wonderful. There were no girls Heart's age at all she talked to, let alone her having a mean stepsister or two. Heart talked to her new pet rat, but many people have pets - some rats - and talk to them. She also had puppies and talked to them. Kind of a stretch, even if Cinderella had mice for friends. It's too common to specifically be Cinderella. If it had had more Cinderella references other then the talking to her pet rat might have worked. Cinderella's father's dead, yet Heart has a strong relationship with her father. She lost her shoe but that's because it was destroyed by a teething puppy! There was no great search to find who the mysterious beauty that got away was. There was never anything like that - again, too much of a stretch. Clayton can't even be slotted as Prince Charming because any love interest is considered to be Prince Charming in light romances.
The first few chapters were okay as the story was being established, but then it felt very slow until later on. On the bright side, there were puppy shenanigan's and at times funny dialogue and banter.

Going back to the Apple Creek series I knew this book would be a winner. Poor Heart Beachy is alone now that her friends are all married or move away. Here she is stuck caring for her widowed father and all her animals. Content and willing to accept fate but her heart still aches for a husband. Clayton Glick comes to be an apprentice of her father, a blacksmith. Heart get all flustered around Clayton but he is determined to win her over. Great book that the romance blooms even in the toughest gardens.
An Amish Cinderella was a quick and easy read that made for an enjoyable afternoon at home. It's a sweet romance between Heart and Clayton and there's also a second chance at love between Heart's dad and neighbor Mary who is a help to many in their community. Spike the rat is a fun addition to this story too!
If you like Amish fiction, you will definitely enjoy this one. Shelley Shephard Gray is a wonderful author who her Apple Creek community to life.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.
An Amish Cinderella by Shelley Shepard Gray is the third book in The Amish of Apple Creek series. They easily read as stand-alone novels. I have read the second book, but not the first.
An Amish Cinderella immediately pulled me in. It is an easy, quick read. I had a hard time putting it down because I wanted to see what would happen next. Heart has a bright, sunny disposition, and I loved her relationship with her father. Levi might be gruff around the edges, but Heart knows exactly how to handle him, LOL!
Clayton grew up in a children's home and never had a family to call his own. His story is touching and heartbreaking. I love the sweet interactions between him and Heart. I also loved how afraid he was of Levi!
There are two romances in this novel, and both are beautifully done. There is a nod to Cinderella, but don't expect this to be like other Cinderella novels. It's not. Also, the description on the back cover does not do an adequate job of describing the storyline. Heart does not have pets when the book begins, and I didn't find her interactions with Clayton overly awkward (past the initial awkwardness).
Thank you to Shelley Shepard Gray for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
4.5 Stars An endearing Amish adaptation of Cinderella, this novel is clean, sweet, and written clearly and concisely. It's my first book by this well-known author and I've got to say, I was impressed. I wasn't sure I'd enjoy this genre as much as I did, but this thoughtful gem was worth it. Perfect for a rainy day as it is a quick and easy read. Be aware that loss/death is discussed, in case it's a trigger for certain readers. Otherwise, this novel is a delightful book that can be read as a stand-alone.
I enjoyed reading this book and seeing the similarities between this story and what I remember from the Cinderella story. Such a fun, light hearted detailed book written in a modern day fairytale setting. Different, but very entertaining. I recommend this book if you love seeing fairy tales have happy endings.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher for my honest review. All words and opinions are my own.
