This is more of a history of the design firm than anything else. There are some great pictures (and the ones of their work in the 80s are pretty funny). A good historical take on the English interior design style.

The splendor of artistic genius is that it brings pleasure for centuries and millennia, and in the case of interior decorator, John Fowler, decades.
This book begins with the story of Fowler's life and proves that artists are BORN, and only in the dedication of the hours and years sacrificing to hone their skills, carefully, masterfully, and individually MADE.
Fowler combined his natural talent of drawing and painting with preservation of the nuances and details of household history to make each room he designed, after much research [ which often went unappreciated by even his paying clients] a treasure, as well as a well-appointed personal living space.

And bless those who realized his vision was important enough to be captured on film before reckless pop-designers trash his work in the name of "artistic progress".
