Newly-minted detective Jace Carroll's innocuous first case plunges her into a world of shifting realities. At the center of the tangled knot is the mesmerizing and mysterious Dante Sabanne, a wealthy recluse whose proficiency with ancient poisons, mystical lore and exotic sexual practices makes him by turns a crucial expert witness, a devastating lover...and possibly the man behind a cult whose profane rituals have turned from depraved to deadly.
Dante is the last of the Light Walkers, guardian of an amulet with healing powers—but that amulet has been stolen, and Dante's powers are fading. As he seeks to fight the evil intent on perverting the amulet's powers, Fate plays a cruel joke—the beautiful detective—who only believes in logic and the tangible—is his Prism, able to separate Light and help him walk the path back to his birthright.
The powerful attraction between them complicates everything, as the Jace who thought she knew exactly who she was and what she wanted becomes both pawn and queen in a battle between the dark and the light. Innocents will die if she makes the wrong choice between the evidence before her eyes and the yearnings of a heart she is no longer sure she can trust.
A scorching tale of suspense, passion and magic from USAToday bestselling author Jean Brashear

A letter to Rod Stewart resulting in a Cinderella birthday for her daughter sowed the seeds of New York Times and USAToday bestselling author Jean Brashear's writing career. A lifelong avid reader, at the age of forty-five with no experience and no training, she decided to see if she could write a book. It was a wild leap that turned her whole life upside down, but she would tell you that though she's never been more terrified, she's never felt more exhilarated or more alive. She's an ardent proponent of not putting off your dreams until that elusive 'someday'—take that leap now.
Over fifty published novels later, the five-time RITA finalist and RTBookReviews Career Achievement Award winner has accumulated a whole passel of war stories to swap and loves nothing better than talking writing and books with readers and fellow writers.
And she'd still take that leap, war wounds and all.

I can't say too much without giving anything away there are so many twists and turns to the this story some you see coming, some you don't. The sex is hot but the tension is scorching! I had trouble putting this book down, I just had to know how it would end. I did thoroughly enjoy this book and I would be iterested in reading more from the author.
Really enjoyed this book. Wasn't exactly what I was expecting. It delves into the world of fantasy/magic and has flashbacks. One of very few free books where I actually wished it was part of a series!
I read this because I love her Sweet grass stories. The Light Walker is a very compelling read. Is there mire to their story? I look forward to the next installment whether it is about Sweet grass or the Light Walker.
The author's attention to detail, especially the fantastical and spiritual aspects of the story are what really drew me in. I also appreciated having the multiple side characters' point of views driving their development. I really liked both main characters, Jace and Dante. However, the only thing that kept this from being a 5-star read was that I wish there had been more direct interaction between them. I think it is almost like 40% in before they actually meet and then after that only a handful of times for them to be face to face.
This story almost has too much going on... The new female small town cop, trying to prove she can play with the big boys. Two strange deaths, seemingly unrelated. Elements that place the story in the here and now, then add an ancient secret society with a magic amulet...a Cane and Able element of two warring brothers, the legitimate son and the abandon Bastard both seeking the power of a cult of sorcerers. A twisted tale that draws you in and holds you there. Thoroughly enjoyable.
I would shelf this more as an urban fantasy than a PNR. I enjoyed it although I thought the dialogue got a little clunky in places. It felt more like the first book in a series rather than a standalone. I didn't feel like all of the plot lines got tied up and it ended rather abruptly.
