This book is an excellent resource of Feng shui fundamental principles that anyone can utilize in their room, house or office. I liked how the book emphasized on the fact that Feng Shui is a science of understanding the energy of earth and that it isn't spiritual, religious or magical. Having said that, Most of the tools and techniques mentioned in the book can be easily implemented to any reader regardless of their religion or cultural background; however some tools were based on Chinese myths and religious beliefs that may contradict many readers religious values(ie: symbols representing Chinese "Gods")thus, these specific tools that carry a religious value can't be utilized by many readers including myself. Other than that, the book nicely covers both the theoretical and practical parts of Feng Shui. It is rich in illustrative images, tables and diagrams. I would recommend this book to readers who are interested in the science of Feng Shui and looking for practical skills to utilize the positive energy of earth.
I suppose this is a reasonably good introduction to feng shui, but I found the formatting incredibly frustrating. The book begins by telling you what to do, and then goes about telling you some reasons why. The first half has quite a few references to later parts of the book, which were more of a distraction than anything else. I would definitely preferred a format that went from the general to the specific, instead. The suggestions were also sometime contradictory, which could be confusing for the reader. I didn't have much grounding in feng shui before this, so I can't comment on whether it is a good representation of the system, but I also don't think it is something that I will pursue much further, both because apparently my situation is incredibly complicated since my wife and I have a strange combination of requirements and because I was not persuaded that the system itself is particularly effective. Perhaps I would be helped by feng shui, but I'm not convinced yet. Still, I feel like I would now at least be able to tell if someone actually had a background in feng shui or if they were just making things up, so there's that.
My mother was speaking of this "feng shui" the other day, during dinner, and wanting to know what it was, I looked for books in my local library. Total Feng Shui, is just as the title suggests. Health, Wealth, and Happiness, is what it discusses in the how-to book. I don't understand why the ratings are so mediocre. Lillian Too discussed what she had to discuss. I love the display of the yellow. It is just like to mornign sun. There are bamboo stands and a heron. Not only does the book tacle wealth, health, and happiness, it also touches on general principles, practical techniques, improving the quality of life, so cool secret formulas, and protective symbols and rituals. Full of colour is is something everyone needs for their home and workplace!
This book is really great for an overview of EVERYTHING involved in Feng Shui, it's a good practitioner's reference. However, it looses a star b/c instead of entirely explaining everything it presents from all angles, it leaves some things only partially explained. so there were a few head scratching moments involved.
This is the only Feng Shui guide that I own, after reading a bunch at various libraries and such I settled on this one because it has a little bit of everything. I would not recommend this for beginners or just dabblers, but for those who want to know about all the nuanced differences and details that are usually only mentioned in other books then I suggest giving this one a read.
This was the most detailed, and picture filled feng shui book at the library, but in the end it was just too much. A lot of pages involving compass directions, which must be very important, but too complicated for me. I liked the pictures though.
This is a good introduction to classic and flying star feng shui and may serve as reference book of sorts. This book offers some feng shui cures but not enough.
