Part memoir and part history, this book traces the Boston Movement from its earliest days and Tom Jones' own spiritual journey from his college years. Showing not only behind-the-scenes background of this Christian movement that started in the early 70s, it also points out its strengths and weaknesses and what all committed spiritual groups can learn from it.
This book is a history of the ICOC as told from a personal account from Tom Jones. It takes his story all the way from before Crossroads through the crossroads churches, the Boston movement and up to about 2006 (I think). This was similar to Into All Nations, but a more personal story, which made it good. I loved reading about Tom's insight into the whole history of events and decisions. There was a greater emphasis on the cross roads churches in the 70s and early 80s. I was a little dissapointed with how little there was on the Boston movement, but that's ok. I definitely recommend this to people - it gives a good background to our church and goes through some of the ups and downs over our church history. It is revealing, insightful, and interesting. It's a relatively easy read, and I recommend it to everyone.
Not only did I get an education of how the movement started, but I am amazed of the faith and humility of the author throughout the events that happened, good or bad. A super great book!
One of my all time favourite books. If you have an interest in the Church of Christ / ICOC, you will love this. I have read it multiple times and it’s a book that once you start you can’t put down.
Excellent book on the history of International Church of Christ. Tom does a nice job pointing out both the strengths and weaknesses of this movement. He writes with heart and passion. I believe this book should be required reading for any class dealing with the history of the ICOC.
