The single dad falling for the younger nanny seems like such a cliché until it happens to you. Except that's not going to be me. I'm not going to be the mom who fell for her daughter's manny, even if Preston is hot. He's also younger than me and completely off limits. At least that's what I keep telling myself. But it doesn't help that he's staying in my pool house. Doting on my daughter and restoring a sense of calm and order to our busy lives. But it's more than that. This is more than just a job for him--he cares for my daughter, for me. And the more time we spend together, the more I'm tempted to cross that line. I don't mix business with pleasure. Or at least, I've never been tempted to until him.
Jenna Hartley is USA Today bestselling author who writes forbidden romance that feels good, much like her own real life love story. Her stories feature strong women and swoon-worthy men, as well as sexy, sweet, and laughable moments that reflect real love.
When she's not reading or writing romance, Jenna can be found tending to her growing indoor plant collection (pun intended), decluttering (just ask her husband about "The Great Purge of 2015" as he calls it), and hiking. She lives in Texas with her family and loves nothing more than a good book and good chocolate, except maybe a dance party with her husband and daughter.
35-year-old Alexis is a divorced single parent to a 4-year-old girl. She is a successful businesswoman and her ex-husband is a country music star who is on the road a lot - so she needs a nanny to help her with her daughter during the summer. But she didn't expect HIM! 😱
26-year-old Preston is trying to graduate college and working part-time as a nanny. His life wasn't easy, he went through a lot - and came out strong and optimistic. 💪 He's sweet, caring... and he LOVES kids (can it get any better?) 😍🔥
After Preston wins Sofia's heart, he is hired and moves to their pool house. But will he succeed in winning Alexis's heart too...? 🧡
Preston not only works for Alexis, he's also 9 years younger then her - and insecure Alexis feels she's too old for Preston and also scared of what everyone would think... Is age really just a number? 😱
This book presents the double standards in our society in a perfect way - older men don't think twice about dating younger women - but when it's reversed, it's considered forbidden. Grrr! 😬😬😬
The plot was awesome, the characters were well developed - even the secondary characters added a lot to the plot (especially Sofia, who totally stole the show with her sweetness!!!) 😍🧡 There were some unnecessary dramas that I didn't like, but other than that, I really enjoyed this book! It was romantic, refreshing and full of fun and hot moments. 🔥
This is my first read by Jenna Hartley, but it definitely won't be my last! 👑
THIS IS WHAT A ROMANCE BOOK IS SUPPOSED TO BE Safe and cute as fuck
I am so happy that I found this book, it is one of those stories you don’t want to end because you just feel joy reading it. Preston, the hero is in fact a hero, he is so gentle, caring, respectful and loving that set the standarts for the guys in my real life very high. But Alexis is not behind him, she is truly am amazing mother and a very strong woman, very dedicated to her company that she built from the ground and turned into a successful business. This couple couldn’t be more amazing and I am very gladly to read about them. Sophia is Alex daughter with her first husband and she is the cutest kid, very smart and funny and I love her with Preston.
I am all about SAFETY and this book is what romances books should always do so I am gonna point the details - Preston hasn’t been with anyone for over a year and was never a manwhore -Aleix is divorced has been one year and she mention that the sex with her husband was good (YEY finally a woman who had good sex before the hero) -Alex doesn’t date much and has been a while since she had sex but but she mention going to a few dates after the divorce -After the couple kiss for the first time Alexis goes to a date with om but when she arrives home she is frustrated because her intentions was to try to get over Preston but clearly it doesn’t work and they have sex for the first time -Later in the book we find out that Alexis didn’t accept the invitation to go to another date with the guy -Her ex husband even though is not the best husband and father didn’t cheat which is nice -So basically they are faithful and amazing
Ohh and to all the author out there who thinks a confident men is a cocky one Alexis says that Preston is a confident man but is not a cocky one and that is appealing. Preston clearly worship Alexis by telling her and thinking that she is confident, sexy, successful and even out of his league. Also, when she feels insecure and a little jealous he is not a asshole and shows her just how much she is it for him by saying and doing this:
“Is this about Kate?” I asked. “Are you jealous?” “Jealous?” She scoffed. I stepped closer, invading her space. “It’s okay if you are.” I placed my hands on her hips, sliding them over her ass. “It’s actually kind of sexy. But really, there’s no need. Kate is like a little sister to me.” I pulled her closer, wanting her to feel how turned on I was. “This—” I ground against her, enjoying the way her eyes darkened “—is what you do to me. No one else. You.”
When he finds her naked in front of the mirror analyzing her body
“Talk to me.” I traced the line of her jaw, smoothing my hand over her shoulders. “I want to know what’s bothering you. Is this about Kate?” “It’s not about Kate, damn it,” she said, her voice rising. “It’s about what she represents.” I frowned, trying to follow her thoughts. “And what’s that?” “Youth. Vitality. Not—” she sighed, her movements agitated “—sagging breasts, a C-section scar, and gray hair.” “Is that what you see when you look in the mirror?” I asked, spinning her to face the full-length mirror. I placed my hands on her shoulders, gently rubbing up and down her arms. “Because I see a woman who is tough, strong.” I circled her, coming to stand so I was in front of her. “I see a woman who is loving and nurturing. Who carried a child and would do anything for her. “And I see a woman who is so beautiful inside and out, it takes my breath away.” I used my finger to lift her chin, forcing her to look me in the eye. “All I see is beauty and strength.”
Preston not only loves her but also adores her daughter and come on I want one Preston too. He is so nice that we feel bad for him because Alexis takes a while to realize how great he is and that he deserves better than what she was giving him, but the last chapters are amazing and they are such a strong couple, like we know they are forever when we finish it.
Girls out there should read books like this and understand that shit like “bully/dark” romances and things like cheating are not acceptable and should never be present in a relationship, because heroes and heroines are supposed to be respectful and faithful and always try to make the other person feels good. Preston for instance was always thinking about Alexis and Sophie first, he is not selfish but knows how to impose himself when was necessary and that is how people are supposed to be when in love.
Preston is a 26 year old university student who works as a nanny to help pay his bills. After his current employer no longer needs his services he is placed with a new family. He is kind, nurturing, sweet, sensitive and super sexy.
Alexis is a 35 year old single mother to daughter Sophia, aged 6, she is super hard working, career focused, guarded at times, pragmatic and is a good mother, she is also warm, caring and compassionate
Preston and Alexis had an instant attraction towards each other and it didn't take long for them to act on it, their relationship was full of ups and downs and watching them try and deal with the stigma that is put upon age gap and forbidden romance relationships was a big part of the story and written so well. There were times my heart broke for them and also times their actions frustrated me but I loved how we got to see their relationship grow and change as their characters did. This was a beautiful story about what it means to be family and how to not let what people think bother you.
I found once I started it I could not put it down. I also loved all the side characters and can't wait for more stories in this series.
《Book aesthetic made by me. I do not own the pictures, all found via pinterest》 《I was provided with an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion and review》
Preston is a 26-year old college student who works part-time as a male nanny (manny) but when his current family no longer needs his services, he is in desperate need of a new family fast.
Alexis is 35-years old—she’s divorced and is a career-driven single mom to 6-year old Sophia. Since Sophia had plans to spend her summer with her dad, Alexis gave their nanny the summer to visit family out of the country. But like usual, Alexis’ ex-husband bails and Sophia is left high and dry. While Alexis isn’t chomping at the bit to hire a male nanny, Sophia and Preston hit it off, so he’s hired, moving into Alexis’ pool house.
The only problem? Alexis is wickedly attracted to her younger male nanny and he is completely off-limits...
Unexpected by Jenna Hartley is book 1 in the Love in LA series. I love a nanny/single parent romance and this was a fun twist with it being a manny & single mom. Also, there’s a 9-year age gap between Preston and Alexis, which added some extra drama into the mix. I really enjoyed their romance—Preston was a sweetheart and swoon-worthy & Alexis is a strong, independent women. The two worked well together and helped quell each other’s insecurities. As a heads up, this is mostly fade to black (the only pen-to-paper intimacy is foreplay), although it didn’t bother me in the least. Can’t wait to continue on in the series! 4/5 stars.
Just no. This wasn’t for me, at all. A lot of things bothered me with this book. The first one being how the main female character, Alexis, was supposedly "old" and the woman was thirty-five. What the hell? Thirty-five is not old at all. The book was acting as if she was a fossil and she was moments from withering away.
Second the "age-gap". First of all, 9 years isn’t that much of an age-gap. Even more in this case because the main male character, Preston, was twenty-six. His age was such a drama and I didn’t understand. He was twenty-six not eighteen and she was thirty-five not a sixty year old woman.
I saw their relationship as normal in age, the only peculiar thing would’ve been that he was the "manny" but nothing else. The book made a big deal out of nothing.
Third, everything moved way too fast. They said "I love you", in less than a month of knowing each other and moved in together in the span of two months of knowing each other. What? They also got married some months later. Like, what? They didn’t know each other, not even for six months. I-
Anyways, fourth is the conflict. It was stupid, unnecessary and had a lot of miscommunication. Also, the whole thing of Alexis being pregnant at the end was unnecessary and filler. This book just annoyed me.
This is not an entirely 1 star book, for me, because I laughed once…. So yeah. Anyways, I’m not here to yuck anyone’s yum but this was my personal opinion of the book. It definitely wasn’t for me and I just wanted to finish this book to be free, but maybe you’ll like? Toddles!
Alexis is trying to run a multi-million dollar company all while trying to be a loving single mom to Sophia. When her ex-husband bails on his plans to take/care for their daughter over the summer, Alexis is scrambling to find someone to help care for her daughter over the summer. Enter Preston stage left, Preston was just recently let go from his nanny assignment and both Alexis and Preston find themselves relying on each other to get through the summer. Neither one of them expected for love to come into play.
Preston is all kinds of goals. The way he is with Sophia is all kinds of amazing and show stopping. I absolutely adored their relationship and how amazing he was with her. Then the way he was with Alexis on top of all that made him downright delicious. But sadly I had some serious issues with Alexis. I got this overwhelming feeling that all she cared about was money and status. Her daughter always came second fiddle and that bothered me a bit. It was hammered over and over again how much she worked and it seemed like there was no time for her daughter. That makes me sad so I wasn't totally endeared towards her and the explanation for why she was like this was very basic and quickly just thrown in with the hopes that you could relate to why she was this way - spoiler it was a miss for me. I didn't like Alexis at all but I respect that may be a me issue but I enjoyed this book and I would recommend.
4 stars Badass Single Mom & Her Nanny: An Age Gap I Want More Of *self-purchased on Amazon. No need of sugar daddies called promo teams*
"Boy, look at you, lookin' at me I know you don't understand You could be a bad motherfucker But that don't make you a man Now you're just another one of my problems Because you got out of hand We won't survive We're sinkin' into the sand." High By The Beach - Lana Del Rey
What’s this book about? (I'm trying to give as little spoilers as possible) This is the first full-length story in the LOVE IN LA series. Alexis Black is a lot of things. Single mom. A hardworking and mature woman. She needs a new nanny pronto and when Preston Hawthorne walks through her door, she knows that she’s found a match. Neither can deny their chemistry, yet a badass single parent knows better than to mix business with pleasure.
This is my third Jenna Hartley read. ANOTHER STRIKING COVER! I read this after reading IRRESISTIBLE & PERSPECTIVE. Totally the wrong order, but it’s manageable. The storylines are intertwined subtly enough, so that they can be read as standalones as well. For me, the story started out with a bang. I’m a sucker for older women and a younger man (AGE GAP EVERYWHERE, I’M AN ADDICT). I LOVED MOMMA BEAR ALEXIS. I didn’t love some of her choices concerning boy toy Preston. She opened her mouth one too many times about his private business in front of people she shouldn’t have. As much as I have a weak spot for single parents/mommas, I cannot forgive her for some of her actions. When she was a little strict and too busy with her work, I actually empathized with her. I understood her because I was raised by a single mom that had to deal with a weird ex-husband. Women like that have to take control; people will think they’re cold and bitchy. That was very realistic to me. I enjoyed reading that a lot. Preston was incredibly precious. When I met him in Irresistible, I was already impressed. He is a sweetheart, a hot one at that. I felt like he was mistreated here, A LOT. But I have to add that single parents must be cut some slack. However, Preston and his backstory… Man, he didn’t deserve some of the things he got served with. I LOVED PRESTON! HUNTER WAS HILARIOUS HERE. The subtle cougar hints/foreshadowing in the conversations between Preston and Hunter were glorious. The steam chemistry between Preston and Alexis was undeniable (my fav steam was Irresistible, Unexpected and then Unexpected). Alexis’ daughter was a cute lil thing, adding sweetness to all of her scenes with the adult characters. The side characters were incredible and as valuable as they were in the other books as well. I recommend this book to anyone who loves an age gap, daddy-worthy male leads and strong, hardworking and rich leading ladies that are also mommies.
A melt your heart, sweep you off your feet, tenderhearted age-gap romance with a male nanny twist. A perfect read for the month of February.
Blurb: Alexis is a hard working single mother and ends up having to find a summer nanny for her daughter, all because her infuriating ex-husband needs to go on tour.
Alexis ends up calling a nanny agency in hopes of finding a quick replacement. What she doesn’t anticipate is Preston, a male childcare provider who is hotter than sin.
Can these two keep it professional or will their undeniable chemistry make it impossible for them to stay a part.
This book is a sultry and sweet read and Preston should win an adorable book boy friend award. Preston literally checks all the boxes. He’s thoughtful, kind, strong, passionate, and family oriented. If you love books like “Down to Deep” or “The Bromance Book Club,” where family is emphasized, you will love this quick and steamy read. I did!
This was a cute romance with a bunch of annoying elements. First of all, there was so much miscommunication. And so many stupid things happened because Alexis, a 35 year old woman, couldn't be honest and communicate clearly?? Pass. Also, the fact that their age gap was made such a huge deal when it's only a 9-year difference between 26 and 35? (and the fact that Alexis struggled so much with being an "older" woman?) Pass. Lastly, I just didn't really care about their relationship? There was really no conflict to it in the beginning, it flowed so smoothly it was honestly a little boring to read about. That being said, it was cute enough and with a bit more depth I think it could have been a fantastic romance book. For now, it lands just short of "good" for me.
Oh man did this one get me right out of my reading slump! Finished this baby in half a day and it was just what I needed. This manny was HOT and also sweet and so very swoon-worthy. I’m not usually into age-gap romances, but this one didn’t bother me at all -i think because both characters were older and mature. I would definitely recommend it and I’m excited to read Irresistible! ♥️
I sincerely enjoyed this one. Preston is definitely book boyfriend worthy! He is just all in and I love how he is with the children in his care. His initial meeting with Sofia, Alexis' daughter who he will nanny for, is the most adorable thing. Preston and Alexis have experiences that deeply impact how they go through life and interact with one another, and as I learned more about them, I became more and more invested in their HEA. This story really shows that it's not always about age, but rather how you make each other feel and whether you're ready for the same things in life. I'll be reading this entire series--which are all age-gap romances. Jenna Hartley has definitely gotten me into this trope!
What is there to say about this man. HE is seriously what book boyfriends are made of. Great with kids, dirty talker, sexy as hell, and when he love loves he loves whole heartedly.
He is also exactly what Alexis and Sophia are missing from their lives. He brings the best out of Alexis proving to her that there is more to life than just work and proving to her daughter that THIS is what a father is supposed to look like.
I loved this book! I love reading forbidden romances and this one was done very well! An older woman and a manny! Where can you go wrong? Alexis is a divorced older woman who is single and hires a nanny who ends up being a manny...giving you the oh so swoon worthy, Preston! He eases his way into Alexis and her daughter Sophia's life and literally rocks Alexis' world!
Since she's an older woman, she lacks some confidence because she feels she's too old for Preston he is quick to show her that age is literally just a number. This book is heartfelt, raw, and steamy all at the same time and it's definitely an unexpected and refreshing age-gap romance that should definitely be added to your TBR!
*ARC received by author in exchange for an honest review*
Unexpected is a highly addictive romance between Preston, a 26 year old manny and 35 year old divorced single mom, Alexis who is running a highly successfully real estate brokerage firm. I could not put this down. These two have incredible chemistry!
Alexis is beautiful, hard working and highly successful. She is a devoted mom to 6 year old Sophia. She has some hang ups from her past that really made it difficult for her to embrace a relationship with Preston, a forbidden, younger man who is the caregiver to her daughter. Alexis cares too much for what other think of her but once I learned her back story and what she went through as a young child I understood it and she became a real and relatable character.
Preston I adored from the very beginning. He may be 26 but he very mature and circumstances in his past made him grow up quickly and cherish life to its fullest. The chemistry between he and Alexis upon first meeting is undeniable. He sees Alexis for her beauty and does not see her flaws or age which she was often concerned about. I totally swooned over his sweetness with Sophia. From the moment he meets her, he is the most loving and caring towards her. The way he calls he princess melted my heart.
Getting to their HEA wasn’t easy and there is some drama and obstacles to overcome but I thought the way the author wrote this to be a unique and beautiful story.
Preston’s best friend Hunter and Alexis’ friend Lauren are pivotal characters to the story, and I can’t wait to get into their book next, in Irresistible.
A manny, successful business woman, reverse age-gap romance that will make your heart leap with love and excitement for more of Jenna Hartley in this Love in LA series🙌🏼❤️ Alexis is a 35 years old single mother who is an estate agent that attempting to exerts her hard works and efforts of parenting her six years old daughter, Sophia as much as at works. When her long-term nanny abroad and ex-husband is busy with tour she's desperately need a nanny to work for her during summer. Which she didn't expect that her new nanny is a 26 years old college student. "𝙃𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙣 𝙖 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙮𝙬𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙩, 𝙣𝙤𝙩…𝙄 𝙨𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙙…𝙖 𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙮." Preston. Le sigh. He's super swoony and intelligent. He works as a nanny to pay his tuition bills and determine to graduate. He's been through a lot at his young age and it's prove why he's become a nanny instead of bartender etc. "𝙄 𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙖𝙜𝙚, 𝙄 𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙡𝙖𝙬𝙨, 𝙄 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪" Every little moment between them means so much. Whether they're just talking or gently touching. The sexual tension is great, adding a great intensity to the relationship they're building, and the sexy time is really hot with lots of feels and a great reflection of their growing feelings for each other and I just loved it! And... Preston *dreamy sigh* The man is a dream, and you cannot help but fall for him. He's caring and so damn sweet. He puts himself out there for Alexis, working to gain her trust, support her and trying to be there for her. “𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩’𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙞𝙜 𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙡? 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙞𝙙 𝙢𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙖𝙮𝙨, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙥𝙖𝙮 𝙢𝙚 𝙤𝙛𝙛.” “𝙄’𝙢 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙥𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙤𝙛𝙛,” 𝙨𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙪𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙙, 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙧𝙚𝙙. “𝙄’𝙢 𝙥𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙.” “𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙?” 𝙄 𝙡𝙖𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙚𝙙, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙙𝙜𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙞𝙩. “𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙭𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙝 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙗𝙚—𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙖𝙗𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙪𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜?” But life is full of surprises, and they have some big ones coming in their way. It puts them to the test in way they never expected, and I loved watching them deal with it all. The story ends in a great place with a swoony last chapter that left me with a big heartwarming feelings. I loved this book and am really excited for the upcoming book called Irresistible in this series!
“Unexpected” is a reverse age gap, forbidden romance book and.I.absolutely.loved.it. Not only because I am a huge fan of both these tropes, but because this book was so much more than that. Preston is a survivor. He has overcome so much in his young life that he no longer takes anything for granted. He is sexy as sin and smart to boot, but more than that, he loves children, which is why he works as a nanny. Alexis is a highly successful businesswoman, she is sexy, and confident (or so she appears). A single mom, who works way to much and finds herself desperate for help when her ex decides he can’t take their daughter for the summer. Enter Preston, who wins over both Alexis and her daughter. The sparks fly as these two try to fight the chemistry that is between them. Unfortunately for them and fortunately for us they can’t and man do they light up the page. Despite the odds and all the issues supposedly important enough to keep them apart, these two find their way to a much deserved happily ever after. TBR this book right away and enjoy. One last thing, Jenna Hartley, I have one question for you? What three things are you grateful for today? Now, before you answer that, let me tell you what I’m grateful for: 1)Books (because they are life) 2)Reading (all the books) 3)Authors like you (that make 1 and 2 possible).
Just like the title this book was Unexpected in the best way possible. I loved that it was a different take on the single parent/nanny romance, plus throw in a reverse age gap. I was completely sucked in from the beginning.
Alexis and Preston had INSTANT chemistry, but there was the whole, he is my daughter’s nanny, he is young debated that Alexis experienced and I was sitting there yelling at my kindle telling her to just go for it! I loved that Preston wasn’t immature and I easily would forget that he was younger. Alexis is hardworking and she wants the best for her baby girl, which after learning her background makes so much sense and explains a lot about her.
Sophia, Hunter and Lauren were all amazing secondary characters and I hope there is more of them in the future, and of course more of Alexis and Preston.
If single parent/nanny and/or reverse age gap romances are your jam, then I HIGHLY recommend you read Unexpected!
Ummm that was 𝐔𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝! I could not put this book down. I picked it up and finished it in one day, and I’m on to the next with Irresistible. Anyone else interested in a hot 𝘔𝘈𝘕𝘕𝘠?! Alexis is the type of friend you want in your corner - powerful, classy, strong, beautiful and devoted. She’s a hard worker and will go to the ends of the earth for her daughter Sophia. Sophia, gosh I loved her, she was comical and wayyy too bright for 6 years old, but she’d be the best kiddo to have to nanny! Ah and Preston, sounds dreamy, and is sweet and thoughtful to the core. This book made me so happy. I just loved it! 5💕💕💕💕💕
I loved this story! The younger man and older woman storyline was refreshing and Preston was so sweet and dedicated to Alexis... I was invested in seeing them get their HEA. The secondary characters were also a great element in this book, which makes me interested in the future stories in the series!
‘Unexpected’ by Jenna Hartley, is the first book in the LA love series. Hartley is a new to me author, and I was excited at being given the opportunity of reading this book.
The book is about Alexis Black, an estate agent who is a single mother attempting to find a balance of parenting her six year old daughter, as well as working during the summer holidays. When her Ex-partner drops out of helping her with childcare, and her long-term nanny abroad, Alexis is forced to seek help in the form of the Hartwell Agency.
Preston is a mature student of 26, attempting to graduate in his degree in the hope of becoming a counsellor. His fees are expensive, and he is barley making ends meet, relying on his job nanny. But when his regular placement falls through, Preston is left anxious, knowing how difficult it is for male nannies to be given placements over females.
So when Alexis and Preston meet, they are both desperate, but no longer for what they originally assumed. Sophia, Alexis’s daughter is instantly smitten with Preston, and he becomes an easy fit into their lives. But is it too much? Especially when Alexis finds him incredibly hard to resist.
I haven’t read many age-gap romances, and this one was written in a way in which it wasn’t as obvious as it should of been. Preston is mature for his age, and his carefree nature makes it easy for their age gap to be just simply a number. Alexis is a character you warm too, sympathising in her dilemmas, and you want her to find that happy balance between career and relationship.
This book was modern, tackled the difficult subject and effects of cancer, and took on the challenge of a male character having a role that is stereotyped for women.
Well written and I adored Sophia! I’m so pleased I got to read Hartley’s work, and I am excited to see what other books will be in this series.
