Svesti Fated Mates #1

Vared: Svesti Fated Mates Book 1

Rate this book
Stubborn meets hotheaded and sparks fly.

Thirty years ago, the Zuvgran released a virus that killed most Svesti females and rendered the remainder infertile. The Svesti initiate first contact with Earth when their scientists discover that humans and Svesti can interbreed. Humans may be able to save the warrior species that has been protecting Earth’s region of space for a century.

Talia has no intention of entering into a breeding or troth contract, no matter what her government promised. All she wants is to negotiate a treaty and go back to Earth to her son and sister.
Vared is the commander of the space cruiser. As a warrior, he isn’t sure he wants any mate. His deliver the human females safely to their Choosings at the King’s Court.

Vared is the first book in the Svesti Fated Mates series with a HEA and can be read as a standalone, although it is recommended that the books be read in order for the best experience.

This is a story with great potential that had an oddly unsatisfying feel to it. What sealed it for me was how the MFC waited until her body was riddled with an infectious viral disease that rendered her infertile to finally decide to tell the MMC to come get some. The word “icky” came to mind when they finally got together. Then, the story took another left turn into vaccine mandates, of all things. Really? Just, no. Infectious diseases and romance are a bad combination. Wish I’d known before I agreed to read this story.

New-to-me author. Story had happy-ish ending. There are loose threads to tie up in a future story.

Vared is a fairly standard alien romance novel with a few different hooks to keep you interested. The Svesti females have been decimated by a virus created by the Zuvgran. Desperate to find a way to keep their race from dying out, the Svesti contact humans and receive six females as potential mates. The women, of course, are not told of their role, but have been misled by their respective governments. When the human women realize they've been sold out, they peacefully rebel, causing chaos for the alien warriors. As the Svesti attempt to make amends and bring the women to their home planet to be presented to court for a choosing ceremony, it becomes quite clear that there's a traitor on board.

At first, I was worried the main character, Talia, was a self-insertion since she's an author. Thankfully, she's an enjoyable character, and her profession becomes integral to her efforts to fight the traitor and help bring a peaceful alliance between humans and the Svesti. She's not your typical protagonist in alien romances, being a divorced mother in her mid-thirties. She has excellent momma bear energy that she uses to help bond the female characters together and fight to get what the women want. Vared is an entertaining male protagonist, who despite his alpha male tendencies, struggles with feelings of adequacy. Overall, the human characters develop somewhat stronger bonds then typically seen between females in romance book series.

The plot takes multiple different turns despite its typical beginning, which keep you guessing on what's going to happen next. The book also has a very different take on fertility and romance, and does a fairly good job to promote relationships without the necessity of reproduction, especially given the initial premise. My main complaint is the book ends somewhat abruptly. While circumstances are somewhat resolved for our heroes, the main plot has still not been resolved, and the book ends before completing a response to an emergency situation. While it's obvious that the next book in the series will pick up right where this book ends, it was a lot like driving down a highway to suddenly find yourself at dead end. Overall a diverting read.

This book I found myself enjoying enough to continue reading from start to end. I didn't want to put it down. If i did, I found I had the book back in my hand in a short time later. The book is easy-to-read, fast pace, has a lot action and lets not forget the steamy romance. It's not one of those kidnapped and alien's romances.

The Zuvgran released a virus 30 years ago killing most Svesti females and those whose survived were infertile leaving the Svesti race doomed for extinction. However, the Svesti Scientists determined they could be saved by interbreeding with human females because a number of human female's DNA is comparable with Svesti DNA.

Vared, a Svesti Commander & member of Royal family, goes to Earth to negotiate a group of Earth females from the major nations to take back with him to enter into a breeding contract or a tooth contract. Sixth years Earth females were picked by Svesti and their nation: Talia, United States; Rachel Llewellyn, United Kingdom; Natasha Petrov, Russia; Ava Taylor, Canadian; Emmy Norton, Australia; Lin Chang, Chinese.

Vared & Talia came head to head right off the bat. Talia & the other women from Earth not only hadn't agreed to be breeders or sign depth contracts or any contracts. All of the women were very upset a few irate. Vared agreed to listen to their complaints, suggestions, and wants. He didn't understand why he was drawn to Talks, wanted to be around her, get to know her and why his tail kept moving over to her. He was having problems controlling his tail! Not Good!

Talia wanted to go home but she also kept noting she always ended up with Vared for one reason or another and she really liked him. Talia kept a daily Journal of the journey from Earth to Svesti home world. Some of the things recorded in her journal was about the time her mind up load almost killed her, when she and Emily was poisoned, also when she was kidnapped and, oh ya, the wonderful time she and Vared had when they were quarantined by themselves for days.

This is my first novel by Wavy Martin and it is an interesting science fiction romance with a bit of suspense thrown in.

The story is about Svesti alien females dying out due to a virus created by the Zuvgran. In a desperate attempt to save their race, the Svesti contact humans and receive six females as potential mates. However, the women are misled by their respective governments and are not told of their role. When they realize they've been sold out, chaos ensues, causing problems for the alien warriors. Not to mention there is a traitor on board the spaceship who is plotting to make sure everyone is infertile.

Talia Sullivan is not your typical protagonist in alien romances. She's a divorced mother in her mid-thirties who is a good ambassador for her country and a good leader of the human females on the ship fighting for their rights. She proves to be a strong and capable character, and her profession as an author becomes integral to the story, making her role in the plot crucial.

Commander Vared Durek is a formidable character with protective feelings for Lady Talia making him a relatable character. He is quick to anger, but he eventually comes around when given more time to think about something. His respect for Talia is immediate at her fearless determination to do what is right. And he has a romantic, sexy, and caring side that makes the story even more enjoyable.

The human and alien characters develop strong bonds, aiding in the search for the traitor and support for each other.

Even though the story was unique, I found the pacing slow and it needed less of the descriptive stuff like the vaccine mandate that pulled me away from the main story.

If you're looking for a new alien romance novel, Vared might be just what you need. This book has a unique plot with an interesting band of characters and a traitor subplot.

Thank you to Ms. Martin for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Another new "Mars needs women" alien series.. I might have given this book a 3.5 if possible, and a 4 or more if it was better edited.

In this series some countries from Earth send women to the Svesti men who think that these women have signed up to breed with them.

As in many stories, the Svesti women were all made infertile and/or killed off so the men need a compatible female to continue the species.

Once they get to the Svesti, the human women let them know that they were duped by their own countries and are not planning on breeding with the Svesti. Talia, a former author from America, becomes their spokesperson and ends up spending time with Vared, the captain of the ship and the cousin of the king.

There was a mysterious zealot who was described throughout the story who doesn't want the Svesti to breed with other species. That mystery was interesting but it is not solved in this book!!! I don't really like books that end on a cliffhanger.

They are also potentially going to war with Earth, and are on their way to helping out a group of aliens who had an accident where hundreds were hurt/killed. So that is three mysteries that are not remotely solved by the end of the book. Oh, and there are fated mates *but* you can't tell if you're a fated mate until you "true mate" (one step past marriage I guess) so anyone could be a fated mate, and they haven't had fated mates in 100 years, but there are supposedly 3 pairings that happened on this one ship?!

The book could have been a lot shorter if there wasn't going to be any solution to any of these issues. I liked the world and characters well enough and I'm already signed up to read the next book, but I think it could have been much better edited to separate out the books/couples/mysteries.

What a fun read! This book has more to offer than I would have thought.
It starts with a svesti offer to earth of starting a treaty where human females voluntarily go to the Sventi homeworld to have babies for their females are infertile or have been killed by some virus.
The evil plan of some other race.
While the treaty was offered the, male, leaders on earth just changed it into a involuntary breeding program where the first females were lied into just to gather intelligence on the svesti.
The story evolves from there and you get insights from the main characters, their evolving feelings to each other and their efforts to really get a treaty going but then based on thruths.
I liked the growing attraction and also the understanding of each other, where they come from in their lives and how they want to make things work.
Yes, there are some steamy scenes and yes there is an happy ever after while there is room to expand the story in a next book.
The camaraderie on board of the spaceship is fun to read and the equal treatment of men and women, each with their own qualities is refreshing to read.
There is a lot of excitement in the book, you have to read that for yourself.
Fans of M. K. Eidem will also enjoy this book in my opinion.

Conscripted to be an ambassador for the USA to the alien Svesti along with other Earth females from various countries Talia will soon learn the degree to which their governments were willing to take on the Svesti’s offer to keep protecting Earth’s little corner of space.

The Svesti have negotiated terms for female breeders to assist in their species survival after its own female population was decimated by a virus introduced by their enemies the Zuvgran.

I enjoyed this first book of the Svesti Fated Mates series and though the trope wasn’t a new one the author delivers some new life into the Sci-Fi Romance genre with a well written, intrigue laced romance.

The reader is taken on a bumpy ride as leads Talia and Commander Vared clash when their two different cultures merge as they battle adversities from within the Svesti ranks and without.

Somehow through it all they still manage to form a bond that kept me invested in this high-flying adventure and its subsequent outcome.

This is a new author for me, and I can’t wait to read more in the series!

Genuinely adored these MC’s.

I had no idea how into this book I was, until I realised I had been reading in bed and it was HOURS past midnight.

The author was able to drag me into a future where a tenacious group of women find themselves having to help themselves and help a race of warrior aliens, maybe finding love in the process.

There were a few moments that felt a little rushed but as a whole this book was pretty great. An exciting adventure, balanced with emotions and spice. I’m invested in the larger story and I like the unique mating scenario devised by the Author.

While this book can technically be read as a standalone, I’m in part motivated to continue the series to get glimpses into the future of Vared’s MCs.

I’m interested to see how the next books in the series play out as they take place during the events of this book, focusing on other couples. Aside from the couples hinted in this first book, we have yet to see any relationship development and I’m excited to see how the couplings came to be.

I love alien romance and while this book is not abduction, it did have similar elements to abduction. Talia was not your typical first book alien romance character. She is in her 30s, which I love! It gave more weight to her decisions if only because she had some life experience. Vared was a very standard alien romance MMC which is also great because the strong, authoritative male is what most of us are looking for in these books. I also just really love a fated mates book and Vared definitely delivered that.

Some things that are less good. The middle dragged a little. The constant sabotage by the "betrayer(s)" got a little boring. But neither of these things made me want to put the book down. I will be moving on to book 2 immediately.

This was a fun adventure romance by a new-to-me author. Well paced and with tons of steam, adventure and intrigue, it was quite the page turner for me. I love that Talia was not a typical FMC in that she was divorced and a single mom. I feel this let her help the other gals when the full extent of their cultural exchange became clear. Oh, those bad Earth governments! Lol! Vared was fab, and not perfect, so I appreciated that element of realism. Of course, nothing is simple and these two had a ton of trouble on their hands whilst falling for each other ;P There is an over arching plot, though, so while we get an HEA, there's a fair few questions to be dealt with yet. Guess the author knows how to keep us coming back for more ;D

A very good kinda slow burn, awesome sci-fi romance! A strong FMC from Earth and a warrior from another planet with the deep desire to keep her safe. I loved it! There is the right mix of adventure and spice with a little mystery for you that will keep you wondering, as it is clearly set up to be explored though out the series. You're rooting for everyone in the story not just our main characters, Talia and Vared, as well which is nice, and has me looking forward to continuing the rest of the series!

This is a wonderful first book in the series. SADLY, I was not surprised by the government's actions. I also loved that Talia and the other women have somewhat of an open mind when it comes to the Svesti but are not pushovers. It was amusing how short tempered Vared is at first and how Talia makes him be a better person. You have an ongoing plot happening in the background that keeps you guessing about what will happen next. Overall is a great book that is well written.

Wow. I could NOT put this one down. This first of this series was amazing. Vared and Talia lead the way for such a compelling storyline as two complex, flawed, and fun beings. Great character development, creative backstories for both of them and the overall plot. The twists have kept the pages turning. And the intimacy was super fun and spicy. And while there is a HEA, a nugget was left for the next in the series to come. Just awesome. I cannot wait for the next one.

Great start for this series. Well written , full of intrigue, drama, alien looking for breeding females and love. Talia is an earth woman looking for a treaty and Vared is looking to transport these women to the council, so they are mated to increase the Svesti population. Talia tries to work with the Svesti council to help solve their troubles and falls for Vared. Absolutely great book, curl up and enjoy. Would recommend this book and can't wait for the next book.

This is a great book. Very well written and filled with drama, action, comedy and more than a little loving.

I found characters interactions very entertaining. Especially the initial relationships between the humans. I also found this book does in its way address some serious flaws in human nature.

I very much look forward to the next book in the series.

Three and a half stars***

I've read similar books centered around the idea of needing human women to breed with in order to save their race, but this is the first I've read where the aliens have tails. Definitely made spicy times a little more interesting. Overall a decent read, but I would've liked to see a little more tenderness between the couple.

This is the first book I've read from this author and I quite enjoyed it! It's fast paced, smart and sexy. The main characters Talia and Vared have off the charts chemistry and cannot help but gravitate towards one another. It does end on a cliffhanger which I really don't like but in this case I will be reading the next book asap!

This is a fated mates, first contact alien romance. The Svesti have lost their females due to their enemies and wish to enter agreements with Earth women. There is a lot of learning to be done on both sides with some betrayal and danger to navigate. I liked both main characters, both of whom were likable and believable in their interactions.

I enjoyed the story but but not so much the style of the storyline. Adding journal entries throughout the story was really just repeating what we already knew, and as the story was written in both Vared and Talia’s point of view, journal entries from Talia really weren’t necessary. Great series starter
I loved how Talia used her experience as a PNR author to take charge of the group of six women's integration with the Swesti males. She was awesome as someone who didn't take any guff, but she sure got hit with all the acts of the traitor onboard. Vared and Talia had sparks flying from them from the get go. I loved Vared's gruff manners. This was a great start to the series.

I enjoyed this book very much. It tells us a story about a human woman that don't want to BE parte of the breeding programa and a alien comander who doesn't want a mate. But as always fate has his way and things get mixed up and very hot!
