Six months after the sudden death of her husband, Detective Inspector Meredith Loxton returns to Brisbane City CIB. Her senior officers doubt she is ready to return to work, and ease her gently back into the groove by tasking her to investigate the disappearance of wealthy socialite and reality TV star, Simone Channing. As the investigation progresses, Meredith struggles to balance her demanding career and difficult work colleagues with being a single woman and mother to her two teenage children. Those issues present enough challenges. When Meredith stumbles into an unexpected relationship with fellow police officer, Nathan Hargreaves, she is forced to expose painful lies and secrets she wants to forget. Working with her new partner, Probationary Detective Constable Alex Bentley, Meredith picks up Simone’s trail. She is confident she'll find the missing woman until the discovery of a body in her house changes everything. The death looks like suicide, but Meredith isn’t convinced. The investigation has too many loose ends, unanswered questions and unexplained coincidences. Why did Simone disappear? Did she kill the man in her house? Or does she have another reason for her vanishing act?
