"Buckle Up Campers! This SciFi space adventure keeps you on the edge of your seat till the very end." Mike P.
With two intergalactic wars under his belt, Captain Francis Miller retired from the 23rd StarBorne, battle-tested and battle-weary. Fast forward ten years, he’s now a civilian and co-owner of Miller’s Frontier Junkets. His pride and joy, Joan of Arc, is a newly refurbished military corvette, offering exclusive paid junket excursions out to Foreland-Tanzania Sector—a star system just recently designated as a protected wild alien game preserve.
But Miller’s next junket is already hitting a bumpy road. His business partner and on-again-off-again girlfriend, Tanya St. James, has walked away from their relationship. Undeterred, Miller and crew have set off on a land excursion deep into Bastiel-6 World’s wilderness, where scientists, journalists, and a less-than-scrupulous billionaire are chafing at the bit to reach the infamous Valerian Caverns, where a subterranean scientific anomaly resides. It’s not lost on Miller that everyone has their own hidden agenda.
Soon, the wheels come off the proverbial cart. Between despicable wildlife poachers, vicious alien creature attacks, and what may be a serial killer among them, Miller’s latest junket looks to be on a one-way ticket to total catastrophe. Turning back would be the obvious solution, but he’s just learned that two of his own have been kidnapped. If they turn back, they die.
Best Fun Adventure Science Fiction Book of 2023! I love Mark Wayne McGinnis. His latest book, Junket—Untamed Alien Worlds may be my favorite so far. I say 'may' because he's written something like 40 books and I love them all. Scrapyard Ship, Star Watch, Ship Wrecked, The Fallen Ship, USS Hamilton... all his books are unique—the opposite of cookie-cutter. Love the action and his detailed characterizations. - KM
Space Opera Adventure at its Best. What a fun ride this was. It's difficult for me to explain how much I love this book, but I will try. I am talking for the POV of someone who appreciates BV Lason and Craig Alanson. Mark has the humor, the right amount of techie scifi, and multi-dimensional characters - that makes his books a hoot to read. Plus, I don't know how he comes up with such whacky and entertaining scenarios, but hats off to his creativity, Pure genius. - Casey
Space Exploration. With Junket—Untamed Alien Worlds, Mark Wayne McGinnis goes beyond what other authors do. Mark has the humor, but he also comes up with these out-of-this-world ideas that come off as believable. USS Hamilton was my favorite military science fiction book (and series), but Junket is my favorite fun adventure scifi book. Keep 'em coming, and I will keep reading. - Darren
Junket—Untamed Alien Worlds. This book for MWM deserves 10 out of 5 stars. Why? You really have to read it to understand. It is pure entertainment from page one to the end. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was exciting and the characters really left an impression on me. It's military science fiction, space exploration, alien invasion, and fun adventure scifi - all wrapped up into one rollicking fantastic book. Do yourself a favor and buy it, read it, and then read it again.
Amazing Military Science Fiction. I just finished reading the USS Hamilton series of books - when is the next installment of the series, by the way??? But I was pleasantly surprised by MWM's latest book, Junket- Untamed Alien World
As usual, MW delivers an alternate view of what Sci-Fi can (and should) be. The Western approach still works… in fact, it get better! Funny, witty, and yet, it brings a different perspective to space travel, human flaws and… robotics.
MW, your books are like Easter Eggs : full of surprises, delightful… and way to sparse! This type of reading is like those secret pleasures we once in a while indulge in, although one that goes by too rapidly. Thank you for this wonderful Egg 😋
The story line is pretty good except he seems to believe the the U.S. controls all of the Galaxy. U.S. agencies deciding what can and can not be done on other planets. Bringing arrest warrants for crimes not by Americans and done on other planets. They are apparently even wardens who decide what animals can and can not be hunted. I am sure the type of storyline appeals to some, just not me.
I grabbed Junket without even knowing what it was about, MrMcGinnis never lets a reader down. The storyline moved along quickly, I was reminded of a mid 80’s Saturday morning cartoon, Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers, the who done it, was Obvious, with 20/20 hindsight. The characters are likable/hate-able in equal measure. I hope to see another adventure of Miller and Company
An interesting take on the old safari adventure theme but this time on an alien planet! Always like Mark’s stories, intriguing characters, compelling sort, and always a few twists. It ended too quickly though, I hope there is more to come in this universe.
Good start with multiple character development. Twists and turns with good scific mixed in. I have and continue to read and enjoy McGinnis writing style and plot development.
As always, enjoyable scifi escape.
Thanks for continuing great work. A fan at 70. 60 yrs of sci fi 📚 📖 Bill
Great story telling and interesting characters. A fun adventure tale set in an exciting and interesting world with human nature at it's best and worst. Whether you like science fiction or not a great read.
Set in a time far in the future and way out in the Galaxy. Because it is set in a game preserve planet most of the weapons are from our century. The characters are enjoyable and relatable.
At first I did not like most if the characters, dark, moody, a lot of stuff that did not sound like my kinda story. I was wrong - Boy Howdy was I wrong.
This was good stuff and ended way too soon for my liking.
Just wrote this... thought I was leaving a review..... book was worth doing it again! Great yarn.... excellent characters,.... I really enjoyed the game warden aspect of the story..... just a good who done it with alien landscape and daunting wildlife. More please..... hurry, lol.
Sort of a wild West tale with some interesting characters and technology. I suspect it could be the beginning of a cereal, or at least a break off with some of the characters. Worth a quick read.
Mark is a prolific writer who can offer interesting characters and plots. I felt that in this book there was excessive use of f words and similar, not really adding much to the story.
A master of the genre, what a great story, old west mixed up with poachers, alien creatures a serial killer a child who lost her Mom a gate to other worlds and it was well written! Looking forward to more in this series!
