I have become a huge fan of this author and her Millersville Series....and while each book could be read as a stand-alone, I highly suggest reading this series in order and this book was so hard to put down. I was sucked in anticipating each turn of the page of what could possibly happen next.
Miranda Diggs is struggling....she is struggling with past demons that haunt her and her guilt. Miranda's mother suggests to take a much needed break to at a motel to journal and hope to get past her memories that haunt her. When an unfortunate accident happens and Miranda sets the motel on fire......this is another situation that has her feeling weighed down by hopelessness. When an opportunity arises for Miranda to get away from it all within a cabin in the woods...Miranda checks in and is ready for some clarity to get past her guilt of the motel fire and from an accident from long ago. When Miranda ignores signs of "No Trespassing" on an old barn...then trap is set and fight for survival is real. Weird things are happening, meeting new people along the way, digging up the past as they have known Miranda and her past.....will Miranda be able to save herself as she fights through this maze of trials?
Twists, turns, facing your phobias, secrets and technology...this story had it all and I was all in on the ride. What a great book that really had me at the edge of my seat and at times I felt panicked and out of breath!!
Miranda Diggs accidentally starts a fire at a motel which puts her under arrest and having to pay for the consequences of her action. She ends up taking a few days to stay in cabin eight, she should heed the warning of the No trespassing sign but she doesn't. Now Miranda is locked into a barn and uncovers something sinister going on, will she be able to escape?
3.5, this was an interesting story that took a turn I did not see coming. Fast paced, very different then what I was expecting. Well written story.
Loved it!! My first book by this author and I want more. She kept me guessing the entire time. I thought our FMC was dreaming or something else was going on. What a ride!!
What an intriguing idea. Miranda, housekeeper, daughter, and someone who just can't seem to pull herself out of her own guilt, finds herself in a situation that would be terrifying for anyone.
Miranda, after burning a significant part of a motel and ruining the business for its owners, finds herself in a not so posh resort. She learns too soon in her supposed vacation that the resort is part of a huge company that left ethics by the wayside for greed.
After being abducted and put through both psychological and physical tortuous tasks. Miranda thwarts her captors and escapes. She vows to help others who have been abducted and still others who have been imprisoned and mostly forgotten.
Throughout the entire process, she learns that her answers to a "harmless" online quiz. It makes you wonder how many quizzes we take online are really fishing expeditions for personal information. How many times have people warned about some of the seemingly harmless tests that others claim that their information is in danger from us taking the quiz. Do companies use the information received in quizzes to target us for advertising, "research," or for just finding out enough personal information to be dangerous for each of us? I suppose the answer is yes. No matter the true reason for so much information being exchanged through social media, this book sure does point out how dangerous it could possibly be for the wrong people to know so much.

Cabin Eight is a psychological thriller and the third book in The Millersville Series. It tells the story of Miranda Diggs, a housecleaner, who regrets making the mistake of starting a fire at a motel in the mountains. With the weight of that mistake, and several others from her past, Miranda is bogged down in guilt over her past decisions. Not knowing how to put it past her, or how to heal, Miranda accepts an offer to stay at a remote resort.
When Miranda arrives at Cabin Eight, she tries to settle in with the intention of having some time to work through her thoughts and feelings. However, a discovery inside the cabin leaves her feeling a bit unsettled so she decides to talk a walk. During her walk around the resort Miranda discovers a large, abandoned barn that immediately grabs her attention. Ignoring the large “No Trespassing” sign she wanders inside the barn and finds herself locked inside. Miranda becomes desperate to find a way out of the barn and starts looking for other ways to escape. She discovers a trap door in the floor which leads to a dark, dungy, underground tunnel. This is only the beginning of the nightmares Miranda encounters as she finds herself in one life or death struggle after another. Will Miranda be able to escape from the resort plagued with evil?
This was an intense, psychological, fast paced, edge of your seat, thrill ride as we follow Miranda’s struggle to survive at a resort where she is faced with one hellish experience after another. As she faces her fears and phobias Miranda is pushed to her limits in a deadly game by people who seem intent on breaking her. She is faced with decision after decision that test both her mental and physical strength. Miranda faces deadly challenges back-to-back, mad scientists, creepy clowns, sinister snakes, and evil corporations in a fight to the death.
The scenes were vividly described and really pull you into the scene with the characters. I got goosebumps and could feel my skin crawl through some of the scenes. The characters were all amazing and added layers and depth to the storyline. Miranda starts out feeling immense guilt from past mistakes and is feeling weak and vulnerable. When faced with deadly situations she reaches deep down and finds inner strength and courage that she did not realize she had. The people she meets along the way, from mad scientists to creepy clowns, all were interesting and unique. I could not help but chuckle out loud at the nicknames that Miranda came up with for many of the characters. A great psychological, crime thriller, with a smidge of humor sprinkled throughout.
Cabin Eight, the third book of the Millersville series, opens with Miranda reading a list of rules at the motel in which she is staying. Rule One is no open flames. Miranda scoffs at the rules, believing that she won't cause a fire, despite the fact that she has a lighted candle and is burning pages from her diary. It isn't only the pages that burn as soon, the entire room is engulfed in flames and the motel is on fire. Miranda is arrested. Such is her luck and it doesn't get better from there.
After serving time in jail, being fined a sum that will take her years to pay, and being hounded by a local reporter named Ned, Miranda finds herself stressed out and in need of a break. Oddly, Miranda receives an invitation to a resort near Millersville (who sends an invitation like this to a woman who has made the news for setting fire to another motel?). Her last stay at a motel not having gone so well, Miranda is hesitate to accept the invite but accepts under the encouragement of her mother.
While at the resort, Miranda discovers an old barn with a No Trespassing sign. Being an established rule breaker, Miranda chooses to ignore the sign and enter the building. After being purposely locked in, by people unknown, with the dire threat, "She'll learn the hard way, like the others did," Miranda ends up locked in the mystery of of Two Rivers Resort.
The book, which although part of a series is a stand alone read, is well written and easily read straight through. There are some good messages/lessons sprinkled throughout that invites the reader to examine their life, their uses of technology, and how much they put of themselves on social media. The book also highlights how easily we get sucked into situations that we can't control because of the poor choices that we make and how mindlessly we move throughout our life. There is a bit of inconsistency and overly dramatic situations in the story to get those points across yet isn't that what happens in your head regularly when your inner dialogue takes over?
The book is lighthearted for a psychological thriller; the reader isn't likely to lose any sleep as a result of reading it. What your own brain makes up to resolve your problems are another story entirely.
The book fits nicely into the Millersville series and facs of Susan Specht Oram will enjoy it, as will those who like a good mystery along with their introspection.

This is an entertaining and gripping high-stakes psychological conspiracy thriller, which had me hooked from start to finish. Although part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone story, however I would recommend each book in the series. Miranda Diggs was a house cleaner who whilst trying to purge bad memories accidentally set fire to a motel, and so now full of regret and longing for absolution she checks herself into a mysterious remote resort. Although she was hoping for some peace, her curiosity led her to venture beyond the “No Trespassing” signs, and she finds herself in a rundown barn. Miranda is then horrified when the door suddenly slams shut, and then locks, the only way out appears to be through a trapdoor leading into a tunnel below. Miranda soon discovers that she’s in an eerie game that seems to know all her secrets, and the trials which start as subtle emotional prods quickly turn into life and death situations. Miranda is not only tackling these trials, and her phobias but also the walls, which are literally closing in. This is a fast paced, action packed story, with plenty of plot twists and turns which kept me reading late into the night! The suspense levels had me on the edge of my seat whilst reading this, and I definitely felt totally immersed in the story and was there alongside Miranda as the walls were closing in!
After Miranda burns down a hotel while trying to cleanse the trauma from her past she accepts an invitation to a large in a freeze day but there is more to this vacation and the state say there are no free lunches nor free vacations. While walking around the grounds in the woods by the lodge she sees a barn that has a big sign that says keep out stay away but of course Miranda must explore it and right after she walks in the door slammed and she hears women saying they’re going to show her and she’ll learn not to be nosy but when she finds a way out of the barn it will be just the beginning. before her vacation a reporter named that wanted to interview her but Miranda was resistant and just wanted to be left alone but when Miranda thinks she is free And get stopped by the local police Ned will be her only way out. I love this author’s books there are so much fun at least the two I have read have been. I thoroughly enjoyed them I love the name she gives people in this book like Miss pinky miss curly Mr. red rope ET see this is the third book in the series and although I haven’t read the first two I am definitely going to rectify that situation and look forward to reading more books by this author in the future. Please forgive any mistakes as I dictate my review due to being blind.

Cabin Eight (The Millersville Series Book 3) by Susan Specht Oram is book number 3 in the Millersville series and it is a thrilling experience.
She is accustomed to scrubbing floors and getting dirty. However, the dirt she just dug up might be fatal.
Miranda Diggs yearns for forgiveness. But the regret-filled young woman seeks tranquility by making a reservation at a strangely isolated resort after she accidentally sets a motel on fire while trying to erase unwanted memories. After ignoring "No Trespassing" warnings, she steps into a dilapidated barn and is frightened when the doors slam shut... and lock. She is driven by an insatiable curiosity.
To escape, Miranda prys down a trapdoor and follows the tunnel down into a sinister game that appears to be aware of all of her most intimate secrets. Her struggle against the ever-tightening walls becomes more and more dangerous as the trials go from gentle emotional prods to life-or-death circumstances.
Every page was exciting and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. It is a unique dark fantasy trilogy. The story brings passion into your life. I couldn’t put the book down. I have binge read the series at this point and I love it.
Miranda Diggs hasn't lived the best life. She's had some childhood trauma that might have prompted her most recent incident. She accidentally sets fire to a motel and subsequently, has a lot of reparations to make. Her mom sends her off to a secluded resort where she can think through her actions and try to get her life together, while avoiding the media. What Miranda doesn't realize is that the reporter tailing her might be her only hope for survival.
Once at the resort, it doesn't take Miranda long to figure out that this isn't your typical location for a private getaway. Things start to go downhill fast and Miranda longs to just be in Cabin Eight.
While this book is part of the Millersville Series, this can be read as a standalone. Of the previous two books and this one that I've read, I think this one is my least favorite but it's still a really good read. There is a lot of twists and turns in this story and it will keep your attention until the end. I look forward to more stories from Susan Specht Oram!
Cabin Eight (The Millersville Series Book 3) by Susan Specht Oram. I LOVE this series and each book I read I think its my favorite. This one I flew thru and didn't want it to be over. Its a psychological thriller which is my favorite genre but this author really knows how to write! This is the story of Miranda Diggs who is a house cleaner and due to a tragic mistake she sets a fire to a motel in the mountains while working. To try to get her mind off of the tragedy she accepts an invitation to stay at a remote resort. Hoping to get her mind straight and get back to her present life and quit living in the past she arrives at the resort with a clear mind only to find her worst nightmare. While on a walk she can't keep from investigating a old run down barn but when she gets inside the door closes behind her and locks! Trying to find her way out she encounters dead end after dead end and horror after horror. This journey will test everything Miranda has. This book will have you keeping the lights on for a while. I read this book so fast and did not want to put it down. Do yourself a favor and read this series. You won't be disappointed.
This is the 3rd book I’ve read by this author, and it’s definitely the most bizarre. Cabin Eight is strangely satisfying. The author keeps you intrigued and wanting more. It feels like Alice in Wonderland meets Labyrinth with everything going on. Miranda finds herself in a lot of unfortunate trouble. Needing a break from life her mom suggested she respond to a resort invite and to take a mini-vacation. Well that mini-vacation sends Miranda on an unwanted adventure that ends up turning into so much more. Lessons to be learned, fears to overcome, and acceptance of things one wants to forget. The resort facility is truly testing Miranda’s strengths and limits. Stating it’s an experiment. All Miranda wants is to get out of this place, get to her car, and leave. Will she get out of the facility? Will she complete the experiment? This book makes you think. Tests one’s limits. While keeping it interesting all the same. No matter the book I will recommend this author. This book is no different but you might want to go into this with a clear and open mind.
This was such a good read. This is book 3 in The Millersville Series and these books keep getting better and better. This story is definately not for the faint hearted. There are some hard hitting truths our main character has to come to terms with as well as uncovering a underground secret testing facility. Miranda has had a tough time of things lately. With the passing of her friend playing constantly on her mind she has become a bit of a rebel always ignoring warning signs or rules. The term curiosity killed the cat springs to mind with her and that becomes the situation she finds herself in after entering a barn with a no trespassing sign. What follows is a twist and turning tale full of secrets, deceit, lies, not knowing who to trust, and facing your fears and past traumas. Miranda has to go through all of this if she has any hope of escaping the secret lab underground. Will she be able to escape? Or at the end of it will she know too much to be allowed to leave back into everyday society?
5 Star’s Cabin Eight (The Millersville Series Book 3) by Susan Specht Oram
Cabin Eight is the third and final book in The Millersville Series and is a Psychological Thriller that will have you turning the pages while on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what is going to happen next. I truly enjoyed this book and it definitely left me with questions. This author is fairly new to me and I must say this one is my favorite yet. Her style of writing is intense and suspenseful and packed with just the right amount of action and drama. Her characters are developed and intense and relatable. The twists and turns had me tied up just when I thought I had it figured out something totally different happened. This can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading this series in order. You get to know the characters and you get a better understanding of what is going on. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what Miranda is up to . I look forward to seeing what this author brings us next.
I enjoyed Cabin Eight better than the second book of the trilogy, The Thieves, because not only did it have an escape room feel, the clues and cleverness Miranda must exhibit were spot on. The setting descriptions and the terror she goes through was more profound, similar to the first book (Shore Lodge) of the series (although all three books can be read as stand alone novels).
My favorite part of the book was the internal thoughts Miranda has, her dialogue makes it feel as you are locked in the facility and not her. I felt the ending was a little rushed after the slow build up in the middle of the book. I would have also liked to see more of an epilogue of what Miranda chooses to do in her life after the ordeal she goes through. I also thought the interspersed social media/computer savviness thrown in throughout the book was a clever way to bring up the "why" she finds herself in a not-for-fun escape room. 4.5 stars (because I liked the premise of the first book, a kid turning in a parent in a psych ward, more original).
Traumatized by an event early in her life, Miranda accidentally sets fire to a motel. The compounding grief and guilt of her actions cause her to take time off from her work as a cleaner and spend some much-needed alone time thanks to a discounted offer to a resort. Hopeful that the trip will help her rest and come back to her senses, Miranda is more than a little unsettled when she is assigned to a more run-down cabin than the name of the ‘resort’ had suggested. In a shocking turn of events that are both psychologically and emotionally charged, Miranda finds herself in the precarious position of being at the mercy of others and must fight to escape. I like how the book was lighter in tone than some of the psychological thrillers I’ve read before. The author has a way of adding levity to the narration while holding the reader captivated, but I felt that some moments were a little overdone which kept me from believing and being completely lost in the story. I’ve read some of the other books by the author and have enjoyed each one, this one included.
Cabin Eight is the third book in The Millersville Series which is full of lies and deceit, suspense and danger in this psychological thriller with sci fi elements. The characters are well developed, and the story will have you on the edge of your seat. Tensions are palpable as our MC finds herself facing her greatest fears…… Seeking solace at a mysterious remote resort she is faced with much more than she thought she could ever find herself in. Miranda has no sense of self-preservation. Curiosity definitely killed the cat and is she next? With horrors and dangers, dark conspiracies, eerie games of life and death and surprising twists they make for an interesting read. It’s a fast-paced crime thriller where the pages turn because you want to know what happens and how it ends but you will need to grab a copy yourself to discover what happens. I am looking forward to seeing what Susan does next.
Cabin Eight is the third book in The Millersville Series by Susan Specht Oram. I found this book to be like the previous two and had it's fair share of lies, suspense and deceit. Miranda (the main character) is well developed and find herself in multiple situations that I feel will leave you on the edge of your seat wondering what happens! Tensions are at an all-time high as Miranda finds herself facing some of her greatest fears! Miranda is trying to seek solace at a mysterious remote resort, and she finds herself faced with much more than she could ever have imagined. Miranda has no stop when it comes to her curiosity being peaked...it's how the old saying goes "curiosity killed the cat", will Miranda find herself as being next? There are plenty of horrors, dangers, conspiracies, games, and twists and turns that make for an interesting read. The only way to find out what dangers Miranda gets herself in to, is to read the book!
Cabin Eight is the third and final book in the Millersville Series but also a stand alone. Like the two books that came before this one, Cabin Eight has plenty of questions, twists, and page turning suspense. While writing and burning notes, Miranda Diggs accidentally sets fire to a motel and things spiral (further) out of her control. To help Miranda get herself back where she wants to be (and avoid the media), her mother sends her to a resort. As you have probably guessed, the resort is not your typical run of the mill, sipping margeritas at the spa, type seclusion. The resort is actually testing Miranda's fears and limits, as an experiment. This book really challenges the reader to look into their own life, and the choices we make daily, especially when it comes to social media. Of the three books in the series, this was my least favorite, as it felt very bizaar to me at times, but it is still a very good book on it's own accord and highly recommended.
I have read the other first two books to this series and I have to say just like the other ones this one did not disappoint. You can read these books any way you want but I think you would be more enjoyable to start from the beginning. I could not get enough of this book. This book was so intense that I was sucked in and couldn’t stop till I finished. Its fast pace so you need to make sure you hold on tight. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way thou. It was so detailed and vividly described that it makes you really feel like your right there beside Miranda as she goes, thou her experience of survival and struggles. The other characters of clowns, snakes, an evil corporation, mad scientists made this book very intriguing and just adds that little touch of suspense. I can stress enough on how amazing this book was and how much I really have enjoyed everything about the series and books.
This is meant as no offense to the author, but I'm surprised at the positive reception this book received. That being said, I didn't read the rest of the Millersville series. This story stretched the limits of reality for me. I kept waiting for a twist that never came. I can appreciate the Black Mirror-esque twist of, "you filled out this online quiz and didn't read the terms and conditions" privacy violation, but I'm not sure I can stomach a tremendous underground facility staffed by undoubtedly hundreds if not thousands of (lots of younger) people who simply never leak what they do for work at all?! Plus a secret prison? Nah. I kept waiting for it to be some Alice in Wonderland, she hit her head and woke up a new person bit, and instead it was conspiracy fodder. It also had a few distracting grammatical/missed editor errors, and we're all human, but a 10-year-old could have proofread better.
Not for me, but I'm glad so many enjoyed it.

This book is part of a series that I have enjoyed reading from the first book. This author is still kind of newer for me, each book tops the next. This one just might be my favorite of all yet. This is a suspenseful story that will push your phobia to new levels and secrets that just may be left just that a secret. I enjoyed the growth of the story as well as what the characters brought to the story. This is an engaging, hard to put down story that has twists and turns that had me turning pages fast just to see what would happen next. The characters pull you into their world from the start. They are creative, strong and supportive of each other. They add so much to the entertainment value of the story. I really enjoyed this book and you will never see the twists coming. I highly recommend this book and this author.
This thriller made me stop and think on multiple occasions. There are so many points in the novel where one can stop and think “what if this really happened?” or “what if this is already happening?”
At one point, I was questioning my use of social media…that is how the author sucks you in on the high paced “journey” with Miranda.
It all starts with the simple ritual of writing down her feelings and burning them. One fire later and a trip to a cabin resort and she’s trapped in a barn. Thus, begins her fall down the rabbit hole and descent into the non-wonderland.
While she is trying to escape the madness, she faces her demons and rises victoriously.
I will admit when I first started reading this book, I questioned my choice but after the first few chapters I was pleased I kept reading.
The conspiracy theory behind a government entity ignoring laws and procedures to turn a profit is something you hear about often. At the very least I do. I loved the questions at the end of the book that make you think about what you have read. More authors should do this! I want to discuss a book with someone once I finish a novel, but the questions helped me settle that feeling.
This book was very interesting. It gives Alice in Wonderland vibes. It is also pretty corny, especially near the end. It didn't stop me from reading it though. I highly enjoyed every page. We all have to face our fears eventually and Miranda's strength shows that anyone can preserve. I recommend this to anyone looking for a fast paced, conspiracy thriller. I have not been able to put down a novel by this author once I start it, so I may have found a new favorite author!
When Miranda finds herself trying to deal with her emotional and tragic past she finds herself having more tragedy to deal with. In trying to "find herself and move past her past" she finds herself at a resort in Millersville for a few days.
Little did she know this was a set up and she would be turned into an experiment. In having to deal with her past and her worst fears she finds herself trapped. Being trapped she discovers a whole secret operation going on that is very ethically wrong.
Can she be brave and conquer the fears and survive? Will she be able to help those that want to get out? You must read this story that will keep you guessing as to what will be thrown in her path next!
I have quickly come to love this author and this story is one that did not disappoint in keeping me engaged and guessing! Can't wait to read more from this author!
This is the second book that I have read that Susan has written. I absolutely loved this book. It was intense and yet relaxing at the same time. I felt connected with Miranda Diggs ( main character) when it comes to feeling guilty about certain things in life. There is something about the cabin that just reminds me of camping but yet being comfortable. So many things happen throughout the story, except Miranda. She remains stuck in her own head for most of the story. I know that I get that way sometimes and the only way to get out that mindset is to make a change. You know, get out of your comfort zone. Miranda is forced to do that in this book. I think that a lot of people should be forced out of the comfort zone, myself included. I think that everyone should read this book, I feel that it pulls you in to really understand the characters and what they are going through.
Cabin Eight was an interesting book, very suspense filled, but not scary. It has a similar feel to the author's other book in the same series (The Millersville series), Shore Lodge. The book had me thinking alot- it seems too bizarre of a situation to be real... yet when you think about it, it could totally happen. Makes the reader think twice before we check the next box after (not) reading another long disclaimer filled with fine print. The author did a good job explaining the situations, and describing them. I was able to envision the scenes as they unfolded. Miranda found herself in several difficult situations as we went through this psychological thriller. At first I didn't like her character at all, but she grew on me. I was happy with the ending and overall enjoyed the book. I think it was the best in this series so far! I look forward to more from this author.
Cabin Eight by Susan Specht Oram is available now in eBook and Audiobook ⭐️⭐️⭐⭐ Book Review
Cabin Eight is the third book in The Millersville series. Although being a part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. This psychological conspiracy thriller is full of suspense, drama, and foreboding danger. This was my first time reading a book by Susan Specht Oram. I found this novel to be very unbelievable making it hard for me to get roped in. I had to keep putting the book down and coming back with an open mind. Despite these obstacles, the book was fast paced, there was great character building, and the overall story line had me invested until the end. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to a friend or to anyone who enjoys the psychological thriller genre.. I would definitely take the time to read another book by this author in the near future.
This author is one of my favorites! The first two books in the Millersville series were so well written and full of suspense-so much so that I jumped at the chance to read this book. Our main character has had some tough times occur in her life and the book starts with her and a fire. Now since she started the fire over a very silly mistake...she was trying to cover up a secret from her past. Well not only did she start a fire in a motel and destroy the room and a couple nearby, she failed to heal the pain of her past mistake! Well her kind mom is so supportive and sends her on a trip just to get away. Little did they know the true story behind cabin eight! I don't want to give it away but just know that curiosity killed the cat! As usual, I'm looking forward to the next gem of literature from the author!
Miranda Diggs seems to find herself in trouble wherever she goes. Helping out with cleaning homes, she forgets things and even caused a fire that destroyed 3 other rooms. Now there are enough fines she will be paying back forever. She has just not found herself, well until she goes on a mind clearing vacation. At which point she finds herself fighting against crimes that continue to follow her. This is a well written crime based thriller. The events that happen are enough to keep you reading. This author has a way with words and getting her point across. I found this to be a fast paced story. The characters are believable as well as the events. Just the twists and turns are enough to keep your interest. Enjoy! Oh No Spoilers!
