I couldn't bring myself to finish this book. It goes against everything inside me to leave a book unfinished, but I didn't connect with any of the characters, and the grammar and editing problems had me gritting my teeth. Must you really use italics on every other word, though it isn't called for? Especially "Blue", which is a nickname for a character. You shouldn't italicize it at all, much less every single time it's used. I was also exasperated before I even got halfway through the book with all the characters smiling and chuckling every other line.

I was so disappointed. I don't really think it's right of me to review a book I didn't even have the heart or desire to finish, but that in itself IS a review. Perhaps after a re-write and edit to clean the book up, I would be willing to give it another go.

A good murder mystery that goes from the Civil War to the present. Everyone has been or is looking for Quantrill's Confederate gold. Fast moving story and a good, fast read.

(I don't know what the picture is of on the front cover.)

Escalating Tension

A well written novel that maintains the tension from beginning to end. It is a book that is hard to put down and the story line continues to escalate as each chapter concludes. The ending was surprising, even knowing that Mike Bishop must survive.

A dark secret lies buried in Muleshoe, Kansas; a secret with roots dating back to the Civil War and a thwarted mission to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln.

Now, a Tulsa pawn shop owner, Saul Levy is found dead, his head severed from his body and left on a post by his shop. A Confederate gold coin was found in the grass below his head.

Now, Susan Dunbar, of Tulsa, has ordered an updated history on Muleshoe, Kansas by Ann Graham. Dunbsr hires Mike Bishop to assist Ann Graham while looking for the Confederate gold coins on the side

This book provides historical background on Quintrell’s Raiders C.S.A., combines it with murder and a treasure hunt. Lots of characters to keep separate, lots of stories to keep track of, and a romance to add just another dimension. A good read!

not a bad detective story about buried treasure in a small town. the set up to the story was much more satisfying than the ending. the lead character is likeable, but his behavior is inconsistent. supposedly a tough guy with a shady past, he is for the most part pretty much a cupcake. throughout the story it sets up a love story between him and the lady sheriff, but at the end of the book, for really ill conceived reasons, the author decides they can't stay together.(my guess is that he couldn't find a way to keep her in sequels) it was disappointing, to say the least. other plot points were left open as well. the villain, for equally unexplained reasons, decides to commit suicide. part of the treasure is left unfound. (again, i would guess to lead into another book. i'm not going to find out. i won't be reading any more of this series.

Interesting outlook on history of the period and a nice mystery to boot. Didn't care for the outcome of the romance but...Like the author and recommend him for those who like their horror with mystery or is it mystery with horror?!?

Murder mystery centering around Quantrill's missing gold. References back to the time but the story takes place in the present. Very well written. Enjoyed it.

Good story line and likeable characters. The only thing i found annoying was the inappropriate use of italics. There's quite a bit of violence, but it's all plot driven, so be warned.
