Clues in the Clay is the second story in the Pearl Sands Beach Resort Cozy Mystery series. If you like fast-paced mysteries with interesting characters, a mischievous monkey, and unexpected twists, you’re going to love Pearl Sands.
Great story! I’m enjoying getting to know the protagonist, Charlie, and the friends she’s making at the Florida Resort. She’s very skilled and sharp at recognizing clues to the murder victims. I hope this new series continues. I highly recommend!
Charlie Davis is settling in in the job of concierge at the Pearl Sands Resort. An artist shows up ☝ on their honeymoon with lots of issues. Then there is a murder and a burglary. Charlie continues to investigate on behalf of the resort. The new detective is not happy with her interest. Charlie puts things together and invites the detective in for the arrest. I would recommend this two book series and author to 👍 readers of romantic family mystery novels 👍🔰. 2023 👒😀😡😮
When murder and mayhem seemed to follow a honeymooning couple to Pearl Sands, Charlie found herself dealing with a couple mysteries and this time the detective wasn't the easygoing Don Neal who'd since retired. She was a hardnose, no-nonsense lady named Sophia Perez who Nelson appeared to know. But actually it seems like Nelson knows everyone lol. She also had to deal with a hotel security guy who felt Charlie was after his job which was kinda silly, but boss Felipe straightened him out on that. That guy must've been super insecure!
As always, the cases were solved with help from her friends who were Charlie's new island family. And she even came to a friendly understanding with the good detective once Charlie understood the woman's usual frustration with other PIs. I'm sure Charlie's past as a cop probably warmed her to Perez. It'll be interesting to see them work on another case together. Guy-wise for Charlie, I'm Team Nelson, so I hope that eventually makes some progress too. I think it'd be awfully cute if Cal the capuchin monkey was instrumental in finding case clues! ;)
This is the second book in a cozy mystery book series written by Danielle Collins and Millie Briggs set in a fictional Florida beachside resort called the Pearl Sands.
Former policewoman and private investigator, Charlene 'Charlie' Davis has left a life of crime-solving to work as the concierge of a beautiful resort on Barnaby Island. Little does she know that she can never truly walk away from crime as murder strikes in each of these adventures. Charlie uses her detective skills and enlists the help of some of her new co-worker friends to solve the crimes and uphold the glowing reputation of the Pearl Sands.
Opinion: If you love a quick, cozy mystery, this series is definitely for you! The characters are very likeable and the pacing is great. I also love the setting of the Pearl Sands and how the author involves many of the staff in Charlie's sleuthing. I listened to these first two mysteries in the series as audiobooks and thought the narrator was very pleasant to listen to. Very excited to keep going to the next book! Solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for each!
I really love this series!!!!! Charlie is getting better at the concierge job, but Felipe keeps putting her in complicated situations. This one starts with a well-known artist on his honeymoon, with his bride a former model. And this is where things go bad to worse in a mater of days. There is major deceit, fraud, greed, desperation, blackmail, vandalism, and finally murder. Will Chrismann and wife Monica, (the well-known artist and former model) brought chaos to the Pearl Sands Beach Resort, with some people spying on them. And good reason to find out Will Chrismann's past that led to the mess Charlie and her friends to help the new detective Sophia Perez solve the case. Now you need to get this book to find out the details on how Charlie pieced together this puzzle. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!!
When Charlie was tasked with solving the theft of digital art, she first had to deal with overly sensitive detective and a jealous security guard who didn't want her intruding on their investigation. She continued her sleuthing & eventually convinced all her critics that she wasn't trying to steal the credit, but simply solving the case. Eventually, when she had solved it, she called in the Detective to show her sharing credit for the others involved in the case. I loved the way Charlie's determination to find the truth didn't prevent her from allowing the detective and security guard to share the credit. She showed her skills while not showing up others.
Read the first and second book back-to-back and now I'm bereft because there isn't a third book out...yet! Love this heroine -- the resort location and the way savvy way Charlie goes about investigating. Relationships are building in this second book, as she settles into her job and her new community and I loved all the cozy aspects of the story. A clever murder mystery that takes some surprising turns.
I really enjoyed both books. The stories were well written. The relationships came together very well. I'm still not sure why Charlie had to purchase furniture while living at the resort hotel. Seems like her cottage would have been furnished. ;) I hope to read another one of these books down the road. Easy reading.
I thought I'd listen while I get some art done, but according to this book, digital art isn't 'real' art so I guess I'll do my fake art while listening to something else. It wasn't just an arsehole character either, just accepted as fact. Life is too short to find out if they change their mind, but I doubt it.
It started off as slow. I didn’t care for all the industry art stuff, but I did like the mystery surrounding it. I liked how they figure it out with a nice pacing of clues and suspects and everything else. The mystery kept me engaged once it got to that point. Overall, it was a good tropical cozy mystery.

There were surprisingly a lot of spelling mistakes, some missing words and even half words which was disappointing. I liked the storyline and enjoyed this second book as much as the first otherwise.
I loved all the interactions between Charlie, Sophia, Nelson, Valentina and the others that Charlie calls upon to assist her. I also love that there are so many different facets going on in the book.
This was so much fun. The characters are cute, and the story keeps you interested. These are short mysteries that keep you turning to the next page. I really do love these cozy mystery books. It's totally worth the read!
The author has a rare ability to lay out the mystery in steps until the end…I had an idea about the culprit, but appreciated how the author brought it all together….great writer, great story!!
Once again I have enjoyed reading this clever well written mystery. The characters are intriguing and captivating. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading murder mysteries.
If you like real Mysteries then you'll dive into this authors book. Each is better than the last. They crab and drag you into a plot that makes you want to look deeper. I have and I have greatly enjoy this book.
Great second book Good story and I like the additions of new permanent characters. At first I didn’t like fi like the new detective but she worked out in the end. Looking forward to the next one.
