The Midnight Confessions: Part One

I never saw my life going this way.

I was happy, popular, the girl everyone wanted to be.

Until I’m uprooted from watching sunsets in the back of a pick up truck, to fighting traffic in the middle of a snow storm.

I hate it here.

I may not be able to take it out on my elders, but I can on her.

The perfect daughter.

My new step-sister.

This is a dark, FF, bully, step-sister romance. As always check TW.

This falls short on so many levels. The characters are characutures of people. The bullying aspect with multiple assaults by a perpetrator, i get it, he's a vile prick. The book devolves as it goes, which isn't saying much since the foundations were barely present.

If you want to read a better bully story, read Pyramid Stunt and skip this one.

I finally jumped into my first ever FF book and I was not disappointed! The Midnight Confessions Part 1 releases on 3/27! This was an ARC for me so let’s talk about it. 😉

Blurb: I never saw my life going this way.

Please read the triggers for this book. I knew everything going into this but I still cried like a baby and had a very difficult time with the first half (if not more) of this book. Cassie broke my heart more than once. The way she was treated tore me to pieces. It made me think of my own high school experiences with bullying and unaliving. Lyra is a straight up bitch and I’m not sure if I’m okay with her being redeemed or not. 🥲 I applaud these authors for writing some real shit that people deal with. Even though my heart is still healing from this it was such a beautiful story! The ending of this was a plot twist I did not see coming at all! 🤯 Can’t for the next part!

Plot: 4⭐️
Spice: 2.5 🌶️
Overall: 4⭐️

This newest book by Jenn Bullard and Ambed Nicole is the start of a short FF novel with step-sisters and bullying. There are some heavy triggers going on, so please make sure to read the list before you dive in.

The story is written in Cassie's and Lyra's POVs and starts when the two girls get thrown together because their parents get married. Lyra is not happy they are making them move, so she takes out her frustration on Cassie...

Later, you get more POVs from Lyra as she starts college and wants to leave her bullying days behind. Suddenly, Cassie appears in her life again and kind of starts to look enticing.

I liked the story flow and the character building. I would have liked some more insight from Cassie later on in the story, but maybe we'll get a look in the past as the books continue. Also, I'm not sure Lyra should be that easily forgiven after reading the first part of the first book. And again, we get a cliffhanger!

Lastly, this Duo really writes good books, so I'm looking forward to more! I received this book for an honest review.

What the what??😱 that was not the ending I was expecting! And I really want to say what I think, but i feel like that would be too easy of an answer, so I’m just going to zip my lips and be a good little girl an wait for book 2! This was slow burn, and more plot then smut, I was expecting it vice versa, but I can actually say I enjoyed the world building an character development and really getting into the mind of the girls before we are hit with the real good stuff! I have no triggers, but these books with fat shaming an mean girl bullying pulls at my heart strings hard because I know there are so many living that irl right now an I just want to save them all🥺 I love Cassie and I’m so happy she found her get back. I’m partial to Lyra, I haven’t forgave her just yet. But Cassie+Lyra=🥵🥵 I can’t wait for book 2, i can already tell this is going to be a favorite series 💜

Well this was a fast read an absolutely so amazing.

We have Cassie an Lyra who are stepsisters. Cassie’s dad is military so she’s moved around a lot. Lyras mom has had crap boyfriends until she met Cassie’s dad.

Cassie is a shy quiet person who just wants to live her life she’s being bullied at school.

Lyra is the popular girl who is jealous in my opinion of Cassie because in her mind her mom is more proud of her then of Lyra.

Cassie has something traumatic happen to her in high school worse then the bullying an goes to Florida.

Lyra is feeling guilty for all she’s done in regards to the bullying an what happened to Cassie.

They both end up at the same college an there we find out that Cassie is a new person an Lyra is changed as well.

It was a great read the cliffhanger at the end was seriously good. Please check the TW there are some dark ones.

Can’t wait to read book two book one was excellent.

So it's safe to say Amber Nicole and Jenn Bullard writing team are releasing some MUST read books.

Cassie is the shy bookworm desperately trying to make it to the end of high school. She plans on leaving to college and setting down some roots. She's been the daughter of a military man and has moved around from place to place her entire life. Lyra is the pretty and popular social butterfly. She's Cassie's new step sister, and she's also a bully. She hates having to share anything with Cassie and makes it her life's mission to make her miserable. When things go too far, she has to face some harsh truths about herself.

There are several triggers in this book, so check the warnings. I absolutely adored Cassie from the get-go. Lyra, on the other hand, took a bit for me to like. This story was so well written, and there were several moments that broke my heart. Go buy or borrow this book. You won't regret it.

WARNING: This one isn't for the faint of heart. READ the Trigger warnings, they aren't a joke.

Cassie and Lyra are step-sisters that are thrown together by fate and their parents. Life isn't easy for Cassie and Lyra doesn't help during their high school years (we witness a small part of junior and all of their senior years). This is some hard to read stuff... I'm warning you.

In Part One they make it to college and things are different, but now there is something else to worry about. This one ends with what I'd call a double whammy cliffhanger kinda thing.

Luckily the books in this series aren't supposed to be more than a few weeks apart, and I believe there will be 6 in total, so can't wait for the next one!!

This is a dark romance. Please mind your triggers.

The authors state in the beginning of the book that this will be a total of 6 books with about 3 weeks between each book. So we don't have to wait so long for the cliffhangers. This is a Jenn Bullard and Amber Nicole book and they have the craziest cliffhangers. But they always pay off.

Lyra and Cassie are step sisters. This first book takes place their last year of high-school. Things get dark. So please mind your triggers. The authors have chapter 4 marked as containing triggering scenes.

I'm excited to see where the authors take Lyra and Cassie.

One click into this book and I knew I was gonna be hooked. Both Amber and Jenn are amazing writers that really know how to feed into emotions, make you feel for the characters they bring forth onto the page. I knew I could relate Cassie in some sense. I don't know her FF situation or the bully/step-sister aspect but I do know what it's like to be the good girl, the one with the good grades, the one who crawls into herself. After one, horrific night at prom, she leaves. After that we hear mostly from Lyra's POV as she makes it to graduation and goes off to Texas for college. My only thing really is that I would have loved to see Cassie's POV from when she was gone. I want to know her thoughts and feelings as she "transforms".

Oh boy have these 2 teamed up to bring what is going to be fantastic short, emotional, dark, quick reads. You need to go in blind and freaking enjoy the story, but beware of the triggers, so check those before reading, because you won't want to miss them. This is a bully stepsister ff with very dark triggers that will take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride one wild ride after another. I'm ready for the next.

This book had my attention once I started. Cassie and Lyra becomes step-sisters. These two has their ups and downs which you will read once you look at the trigger warnings! Once pass that you will fall in love with this book like I did! This book does have a little bit of spice not a lot. This book does start in high school but leaves in college as a cliffhanger.. I definitely would recommend this book and all the others once they come out! Going to love this series!

This book is about two step sisters who couldn’t be more different. The authors put the list of trigger warnings up front so pay attention. They don’t hold make as they make you aware of real problems in the world. The character development is great and I caught myself being engrossed in this story! Big cliffhanger at the end and I can’t wait to read more!! Second installment will be out soon!

This was my first FF book. I love reading a different variety of books. I think Amber & Jenn have popped my cherry with this book 🤣🍒
Please read the triggers before diving in.
It is very brutal what Cassie has to go through but she comes through this stronger than ever. Can wait to read more of this series 🖤

Oof..you think you know what to expect from Jenn & Amber. You know it is going to be dark & twisted but this one was rough. Even stealing my heart knowing it was going to be rough it still made cry. It dredged up childhood memories dating back to elementary school. There are three types of girls in high school: mean girls, mean girl prey, and those that skate by unscathed. Which one were you? This installment of Midnight Confessions will have you second guessing past choices you made, if you have a heart that is.

Absolutely loved this book Amber and Jenn pull you in with this story of a horrible bully and her main target that is her step sister. The character development is amazing as your heart breaks for Cassie and you go from hating to wanting to like Lycra.
This book is full of the downs of high school behaviour and the acceptance of university where people are growing and coming into their own.
I can’t say more with out spoiling stuff but I can’t wait until the next book to see where these characters are headed.

The Midnight Confessions was such a good read. I love that it is short installments that will be releasing quickly. I love a dark, bully story, and this one definitely executed the bullying and darkness incredibly. I also really love that this is a FF bully romance and also stepsister, it really switches up the step sibling trope and I can't wait to see where the story goes! Definitely a stellar 5 star read!

This is a bully FF book.

We have Cassie and Lyra who are thrown together after their parents get together.

But Lyra is not a big fan of Cassie who in her opinion steals the attention of her mom.

It only goes downhill from there.

Read the trigger warnings some dark topics.

This is an incredible story.

Ends on a cliffhanger, curious for the 2nd book.

Let me start by saying this isn't my usual content to read, however this book was really good. First and foremost please read the content warnings!!!

This is a step sibling mean girl story and reading through the trauma and events that take place is truly heartbreaking. This is a fast read with alot that happens. I was mildly disappointed that we didn't get to see the healing journey of the characters.

I enjoyed the story though there was not alot of spice. It is very dark and emotional. I am looking forward to the next book.

I am not sure how to feel. This story was all over the place with emotions and tones.

I can say for sure i enjoyed myself, and given that the story is currently free i do recommend at least giving it a shot. But i will now spoil it entirely, so stop reading if you care.

From the start, the premise is one i like(though i have yet to read a satisfying version of), bully becomes lover. Having been bullied myself, i always feel a weird bit of authority over how realisitic such a dramatic change in relationship is. This story certainly pulls no punches in how it portrays bullying. I would argue it might even be a tad too over the top in places.

Lyra starts out being almost a comical 'mean girl' type, which i was worried about. The problem with introducing her as such a horrible human being is it ends up backfiring when any notion of a relationship comes up. Cassie starts out being your basic shut in nerd type, who has body image issues due to all the bullying. The bullying scenes were, for the most part, well done in getting us in Cassies mindset and it properly sets up her self image issues and her suicide attempt. The only scenes i thought didnt work was the scene where Kelter initially assaults Cassie in her room(definitely goes beyond bullying, i know). The set up just felt unrealistic, and Lyras reaction to the whole thing seemed so comically evil that it made the whole scene feel off. I get that the scene really existed to set up the rape scene later on, but it definitely could have been executed better. Kelter in general was a little too over the top in my opinion. Hes the only character that didnt act like a human being a single time. Right down to the way he talked. I will admit, i understand why, the idea of giving someone that does something so horrible human traits is hard on the stomach.

Then on course, there is the rape scene, which, to the stories credit, was handled well. It didnt try to make it sexy, or anything weird. It was graphic for the purposes of understanding Cassies state of mind during the experience. It also did a great job at setting up the subsequent suicide attempt scene. This, in my opinion, was the stories biggest accomplishment. It set up that scene so well that i really emphasized with some of what she was feeling. The suicide attempt is also a big shift in focus from Cassie to Lyra. We had gotten some of Lyras perspective throughtout the story, but not much. This is also the point that the story really changes its tone and overall focus.

Early on we got to know Lyras thoughts on her mom getting married, Cassies dad, Cassie, and the move. Her internal self early on is nothing like the evil monster when its Cassies persective. This weakens her arc a bit in my opinion because she was so over the top bad at times that it really felt like a different character than the one we see from her persective, and not in a way that seems intentional. Cassies suicide attempt is the moment that changes Lyra as a person, though because we didnt really get to see her side of things when she was really bad, it feels somewhat hollow. She seemed horrified that Kelter raped Cassie, but not long before she had more or less caught him assulting her and didnt seem to care. An argument could be made that, as she says that chapter, she really believed that Cassie was coming onto him. But given the fact that he was holding her from behind, and how she probably looked, there is no way that was actually what she believed.

This hollow transformation into a good person is also somewhat overshadowed by alot of lingering threads that feel unfinished. Most of whats going on with Cassie just gets summerized from Lyras perspective, so we dont get a good idea of whether Cassie remembered any of it, or how she felt in the following days. Cassie as we knew her essentially gets replaced by a new Cassie that might as well be a completely different character. Her development happened off screen(? page?, im not sure because its a book), so we end up with a new Cassie that feels nothing like the one we just left behind.

The story in general falls apart once they are in college. Too many new characters, too many little sub plots and the overall shift in tone and theme. The characters havent seen eachother in 6 months and both are essentially different people. Instead of focusing on them, their relationship, and have some scenes where there is some real reflection, they have a slumber party, Cassie and Lyra are immediately checking eachother out, Cassie is gay btw, oh yeah and she goes and tries out for a play, then goes on a date with a girl she just met, oh and a bit earlier Lyra also went on a date with someone she just met, btw this other new character is bi polar, Cassie and Lyra have sex and then there is a random kidnapping. All within less than 50 pages. Yeah, a mess. When i went back to check how many pages, i was somewhat surprised it was that many because it felt so much shorter. The first 60+ pages felt alot slower because there was focus, a theme, and even though there were some jumps there too, it at least kept with the theme and the tone. The last 40 percent of the story felt like it wanted to do too many things without really setting it up. Cassie trying out for the play felt really random. So did the drinking game that led to sex with Lyra, right after Cassie's random date with her new friend. The kidnapping at the end was so out of place it was hilarious, its probably the worst cliffhanger too because it was one of the new characters that was taken.

Im not sure i will continue with this series, but at least this story was enjoyable. It wasnt boring, thats for sure.

Synopsis: Cassie’s Dad Mark and Lyra’s Mom Bella just got quickly married, throwing the now step-sisters together, not having known each other for very long. Almost immediately they were moved halfway across the country from Texas to New York to a new military post for Mark’s job. It is the sister’s senior year of high school, and Lyra has made it her mission to be the meanest mean girl to Cassie.

If you are looking for a sweet romance, this will not be the book for you. In fact, you should probably go find another book right now, because this book will not give you the warm fuzzies. 80% of the book is spent in that “Dark” phase, 10% maybe in a romance phase, and 10% in a WTF?!

Ok, this book is fiction, so this rant is purely illogical because without conflict in a book you would have no resolution… basically you would have no book! But I honestly wanted to throw my book across the room multiple times. I was so mad at Bella for not seeing the signs of severe depression and body issues. For heaven’s sake, the book said she was a nurse! She is either working a million hours (possible, I suppose, not likely given Mark’s age and probable military rank/pay grade) or she is the worst nurse in history. I was also pissed at Bella and Mark for not seeing what a little sh*t Lyra was. There is no possible way Lyra hid all that bratty behavior for an entire year, unless she is a complete sociopath.

Second rant- My little Type A empath soul should probably not read dark books for this reason here: As I am screaming at the parents to realize there is an issue, I am also screaming at Cassie to grow an effing pair and use the skills her daddy taught her! Do not let anyone push you around! Do not stay quiet! Do not let little sh*ts get away with their sh*t behavior! I am not victim blaming, but if NO ONE knows there is a problem besides the victim, and the victim is doing nothing to stand up for themselves, the problem will continue! It will never just “go away”!! GAHHHHH!!!!! Ok, I am stepping down off my fictional soap box and ending my fictional rant at these fictional characters… But also, I wanted to take Cassie in my arms, hug her, tell her high schoolers are asshats and everything will get better… And then kick said asshats right in the netherregions.
Leaving aside all my fictional frustrations, I actually did like this book! I am on the edge of my seat because it left off on the cliffy! I’m not sure justice has been served to those who deserved it, penance needs to be paid, so hopefully we get some of that. But overall, I feel like this was a very realistic view of what a lot of teenage girls have to deal with. The “mean girl” mob mentality is very real, it is very harmful, and more adults need to recognize the signs (but that’s hard, because they themselves might still be victim to that sheep mentality, and are scared to speak up for one reason or another. Fear of rejection is still real for some adults). My takeaway for you? DO BETTER, BE BETTER, and teach your kids better =)

I cannot express how happy I am that this is a series because I couldn’t cope with not having more. When I say I devoured this I mean can’t put it down delay dinner until it’s finished.

The story follows Cassie and Lyra, two very different people thrust together by the marriage of their parents. While Cassie is shy having moved around a lot with her dad being in the military, Lyra is the typical popular girl. Instead of helping Cassie fit in, Lyra is jealous of the perceived favouritism her mother shows Cassie and decided to make her life a living hell. I won’t go in to detail but check your triggers as there is actual bullying which peaks with a devastating event. This event alters the course of both girls lifes with Lyra trying to become a better person and Cassie trying to heal and find herself. When they both end up at the same college living together it becomes clear that maybe there was an underlying reason why they clashed. I absolutely loved the character building that Amber and Jen did drawing you in to both of them making them relatable even when I wanted to smack Lyra! Looking forward to seeing where this goes

Bülly step sister ff romance was a pitch that drew me in immediately and I started this book totally at random. This first book in the series is pretty dark, graphic, and very sad. I know that’s what bülly romance is all about but I never understood Lyra’s motivation behind being an absolutely atrocious human other than oh, she’s a teenager acting out. And this isn’t me having different standards for a girl, this is me finding no reason to empathize with a girl who’d do something this heinous to another girl. But hey that’s a whole other conversation. I’m all about horrible heroines, but I didn’t find anything to like about Lyra. With Cassie too, her character is depicted as one thing and does another, even though my heart broke for her. Idk if it’s the short format or the writing, but the character arcs are choppy and the development in stilted. So much happens in the book but feels like nothing did. Idk more thoughts in my review of the next one.

Having said that, I did blow through this in one sitting and was intrigued enough to continue so there’s that.

I was so excited for this book to come out after Jenn teased it, and it didn't disappoint! This was my first time reading just FF that doesn't involve a why choose/poly cast of characters. I really enjoyed it even with the triggers, I knew it being from Jenn and Amber that we'd be into the heavy stuff.

Cassie and Lyra are our FMCs, they're thrust together when their parents get married. Lyra isn't happy that they have to move so she takes out her frustration on Cassie. Cassie is used to moving around since her dad is in the military, and she's a bit shy and just wants to finish school. Even though she's getting bullied, Lyra is our popular girl with a few issues to work out.

Eventually, something traumatic happens to Cassie and she leaves for Florida. They both end up at the same college, where both of them have appeared to change. I'm intrigued to see more of Cassie's side later in life, but I know that this is done with purpose.

Can't wait for the next book!
