Nice start to this new series dealing with Abbey, a 45 year old who loved and lived a plain, easy life til her husband hit this as a mid life crisis several months ago. He fell in love, supposedly, with a early 20 some year old twit and got a divorce from Abbey making her sell her beloved home and bakery, so that EVERYthing could be divided in half.
Abbey has decided to wander the country and taking a long rout to her sister in FL and she is traveling through Texas where he beloved old Nissan breaks down and she finds herself in a VERY small town where the main residents are her hotel owner, and owner of many of the businesses in the small downtown, Mindy ,and her brother, who owns a ranch nearby.
Enjoyed learning there different and unique personalities along with Julia, Roger's daughter who is wheelchair bound since the age of 5 and is home schooled by her aunt and dad. And there is Vincent, a 65 year old widower who misses his beloved wife and conquered cancer after traveling to Europe for whole and all natural healings. Story ends with a rare and unexpected ex-husband, twit girlfriend and lawyer arriving at Mindy's hotel for a night's stay before the storm rolls in.

Abbey recently divorced and forced to sell her bakery and her home, as per the divorce
settlement is on her way to visit her sister.
On the way her car breaks down and a passerby (Mindy) stopped to help. She invited
Abbey to come stay at her home until she could get the car repaired.
Mindy's brother attempted to repair the water hose, but it broke trying to put it in.
Abbey is stuck at the manor until she can get her car fixed.
Abbey meets Julie, age 16, who is in a wheelchair and overly protected by her father.
While having supper - Abbey's ex-husband and a lawyer appear at the manor. What

Hayley Summers has done it again creating a series starter book that pulls you right into the story and the lives of each of the characters. The descriptions of the characters, the location as well as the driving forces behind the actions of the characters are well communicated and had me emotionally invested in their lives. I could not put it down and can not wait to get my hands on the next installment of the story in Book 2.

Quick Read
I picked this up because I needed a quick, lighthearted read. It was at least one of those things and it ends on a cliffhanger. How did her ex know where she was? I'm not sure I'll ever find out because I'm not sure I'm invested in the characters enough to pick up book two.
Overall, this was okay. If you don't mind having religion thrown at you in your reading or that every marriage sucks this might be a book for you.

Fabulous book and very moving plot. A group of interesting characters and a dose of suspense make the reader look forward to the continuation.

Great start to the new series What Matters Most with unforgettable characters and a captivating story. Can't wait to see what happens next with Abbey, Mindy and the rest of the characters.
