From the outer reaches of space to the forests of a medieval world, explore the imagined retellings of your favorite fairy tales and myths.
In this second installment in the Writing Bloc's Passageways series of anthologies, dive into fourteen stories from new and veteran writers alike, running the gamut of genres and touching a multitude of themes. Each story is a compact adventure into unfamiliar worlds with familiar tones, arranged to be devoured piece by piece or all in one gulp.
Contributing authors include Aly Welch, Christine Brennecke, Cari Dubiel, Blair Cosby, Maggie Hoyt, Gerri Mahn, Sylar Lennox, TCC Edwards, Kaytalin Platt, Tahani Nelson, Mike X Welch, Evan Graham, Jenn Newman, and Peter L. Harmon.
Kaytalin Platt is the author of the genre-bending fantasy series, The Equitas, which follows a powerful time mage trapped in a recurring war with a creature bent on destroying the universe. She is also the author of the dark fantasy romance novel, Of Silver & Sin. Born in Deer Park, AL, Platt now resides just outside Philadelphia, PA with her husband, child, and rescue dog.
This is probably my new favorite Writing Bloc anthology. It's just an awesome collection of re-imagined or, in some cases, continuations of old fairy tails and mythology. I got a digital copy as an ARC reader, but I am definitely going to order a physical copy just so I can have this collection with that lovely cover on my bookshelf. The only warning I would say is that some of the stories are dependent on knowing the story behind it to really enjoy them. The fairy tale stories you'd be ok with because those are so ingrained, most people know them but you might want to brush up on some of the Greek mythology for others. I would say my favorite is a tie between "The Sweetheart Contract" and "Fairest"
If you like fairy tales, space and mythology but in another way that we know this book is for you! 14 different stories, each of the authors creates this world so that readers can see the other side that the stories we already know can have and be as fascinating as the original ones!
