New Protectorate #3

Burden's Bonds

Rate this book
He’s chosen to be alone.

Kazimier Rione, half-orc spymaster of the Elvish Protectorate, doesn’t want a mate. He’s got too many rough edges and too much baggage for any woman. That’s why he’s done everything in his power to stay away from a certain lush little witch that makes every instinct bristle. A glimpse was all it took to seed a dark obsession, but it’s one he knows he can never act on.

She was burned by fate.

Atria Le Roy learned her lesson a long time ago: the blessing of a mate is not for her. A witch groomed for a secretive priestesshood from birth, she’s spent years throwing herself into her potentially world-changing research and running from her complicated past. Now that research is about to come to fruition — if only she and her research partner can survive being hunted by the factions desperate to get their hands on it.

Keeping their distance is impossible.

When his witch is threatened, Kaz knows that rescuing her will mean giving in to the pull of fate, but doing nothing is not an option. He’ll do anything to protect her, even if that means kidnapping her and going on the run himself. With every mile they cover and danger they face, the fire between them burns hotter. She wants to escape her past, the bounties on her head, and the overbearing, beautiful orc holding her captive. He wants to possess everything she is and be utterly possessed in return.

Surviving will mean giving in, leaving the past behind, and letting the fire burn…

One of my favorite things about Abigail’s books, is how she works in neurodivergence into superpowers. There are a lot of parallels to Atria’s empathic abilities (and the difficulties that can come with them), to neurodivergence, and I love how they are framed as positive superpowers, without erasing the struggles that come with them.

The two MCs- Atria and Kaz, drove me the right amount of crazy; both of them are incredibly stubborn in different ways, and boy was their journey messy, but oh so much fun. This installment in the New Protectore had a faster pace, more action pack vibe, and I love a good forced proximity “on the run” mystery romance.

Kaz is a stubborn, gruff, abrasive half orc who never wanted a mate. Atria lives a quiet life as a scientist until recently, where there is a bounty on her head. An orc who’s mate is threatened? Lots of growly possessiveness can be expected.

I have been foaming at the mouth for Kaz’s book since book 1, and it did not disappoint! Our brooding half orc growly grump, is determined to be miserable and alone. He is convinced he’s just the worst and deserves nothing (hello trauma my old friend), but he truly has a heart of gold even if he wishes he didn’t.

Another fantastic installment to the series! Can’t wait for the next one!

DNF at 51%.

I'm really bummed about this book. I wanted to love Kaz but he's such a manwhore. With negative motivation. He knew she was his mate three years ago but had been fighting it. He even tried to sleep with another woman but it disgusted him since he had met his mate. Oh yay.

This book grossly describes how he used to f*** a lot of women and we get details during their first time. And it sucks. I tried to keep reading but I just don't care enough.

"Kaz was an intensely visual lover and always had been. He suspected it sprang from that same place that was so very good at noticing details and gathering information. Whatever the case, he loved to watch. When a woman sucked his cock, he liked to hold her hair so his view was unobstructed. When he went down on them, he liked to keep them somewhat upright, so he could watch their faces as he coaxed out one orgasm after another. When he played with pretty breasts, he got a deep satisfaction out of biting and pinching until a woman’s nipples were tight and flushed. And when he fucked, he loved to watch his cock disappear into the soft pink flesh of a hungry, dripping cunt again and again."

Also, I HATE that his nickname for her was "princess". How unoriginal.

Here's something I noticed about Abigail's characters. When they yearn, they YEARN. And I absolutely love it.

Atria and Kaz deserve EVERYTHING. The book touches on subjects of grief and self love, and they were executed very well 🥰

Burden's Bonds honestly blew my expectations away. Just when I thought I couldn't love this world and its characters, Abigail whacked me upside in the head and said, "Hey! Buckle in for THIS wild ride."

Consider me obsessed.

"You're my princess. Now I've just got to figure out how to be a f***ing hero."

I went into this book expecting a spicy, orc romance but wow...this book was that and so much more. The world building in this book was amazing. Even though I hadn't read any of the other books in this series I felt immersed in it immediately and it wasn't that hard to catch up. The author's character guide was also very helpful to make sense of how the characters were related or involved with each other. I do think my experience would have been slightly better and easier if I had known the background of the characters beforehand, but again, it wasn't that difficult to catch up.

Kaz is just....wow. He is the perfect MMC for me to read. He's growly and a grump but such a softie for his mate. Or as Atria said, "He had the personality of a brick, but he smelled good." 😆The spice was also very nice. I loved when Kaz conceded more to his monster side and lost control a bit. Enjoyed reading an FMC who is strong and wants to do what's right no matter the cost to herself. Also a little shout for women in science! 💖🙌 "First of all, I am not a princess. I'm a scientist."

Kaz and Atria's relationship was such a healthy one and so refreshing. They were open about their pasts and traumas and didn't use it against each other. Now I love a good miscommunication situation but it was nice to read about a relationship where they actually talked stuff out and listened to each other.

We didn't get much of Delilah but in the small bit that we did, I totally fell in love. 😆

Can I have my own Kaz now?

I wanted to like this more than I did. I liked all the individual parts, but for some reason when you mixed them all together the finished product didn’t do it for me.

Overall, still continue to like the world and characters and the way she’s overlapping the storylines. They’re intertwined and related in a unique way, not a true series but a fresh take on the interconnected romance “series”

Holy hot pockets this was good! Atria and Kaz were amazing. I loved getting to learn about Atria and her quiet, nerdy, empathic self. It was also cool to explore another faction of the religion of the world through Atria’s past. Kaz is a burnt marshmallow. He’s a burnt, crispy boi on the outside but is a squishy mess for his mate. I loved getting to go through and watch Kaz’s crispy shell get cracked open and explore the more messy version of him. Kelly creates such well rounded and nuanced characters. It’s exciting to watch to see how they fit and grow together.

I love me a good road-trip romance (also some good ole forced proximity) and what an adventure these two had! The story had me hooked the whole time. The story was action packed but even the quieter moments had lots of impact. I love the world that Kelly is creating in the New Protectorate universe. It feels so rich and filled out. It’s been exciting to explore new sections and people of the world with each book. Also it was cool getting to learn more about the magic of the world.

I feel there is so much more I could say about this book but my brain is still processing all the wonderfullness of this book! So excited for what comes next!

It's probably weird to start a review of a book with a quote from another book, but I'm weird, and its my review sooo... here we go.

"You're confusing truth with acts, my love. If you're offering I'd rather have truth"- Subtle Blood by KJ Charles

For me, this line just kept running through my head with Kaz and Atria. Kaz thought he could just do things for her and protect her and she would magically know his feelings but she needed his words to make the connection real. Because of...reasons.

I really enjoyed this story, I've said in reviews before, that if Abigail Kelly writes it, I'm going to read it. This story has world-building, action, mystery, attraction, and characters that talk to each other. They share thoughts and emotions, usually 10 minutes too late but they get there.

This is a long book, it didn't feel long until I realized I had been reading it for days and then I wanted to hurry up and finish. I can't think of anything I would have left out.

Abigail Kelly did it again! I stg I love this woman. Her books are so good. The world building is amazing— I’m absolutely obsessed.

This book in particular was great. We all know I love a long book and this was 500 pages of perfection. The characters were Atria, an empath + witch, and Kaz who was a Orc/Elf. Kaz was introduced in past books (Theodore’s half brother).

This is a fated mates story (my favvv) but the couple didn’t immediately fall together. Kaz didn’t want to take a mate because of his past and Atria (being a witch) didn’t realize they were mates. Once she figured it out, she dealt with a lot of self doubt and insecurity. I liked that once Kaz was in, he was ALL IN. Like completely down bad for Atria. (I’m talking crying, begging, crawling on his hands and knees for her. Loved see this big burly man begging).

I did wish the relationship angst at 70% was fleshed out just a tad more and there was a better conversation about their insecurities and such. But tbh I understand why it went the way it did. Also I need to know what happened to Ruby! Hope she gets a book (maybe with that werewolf criminal guy that Kaz knows?). Anyways, I recommend this book! (and this whole series lol).

Editing to add that the spice in this book was amazing! Goddamn!

*ARC Review*

Abigail Kelly is so good at pulling at my heartstrings with her characters! The romance between Atria and Kaz is so sweet and so fraught at the same time. Totally besotted but struggling with their own traumas. I loved the way they came together and helped each other.

"Everything I have is yours. Everything I am is yours - every fucked up inch of me. I'd follow you anywhere..."

"I'm not asking. I am begging, Princess."

Loved this installment in the Protectorate Series!

First off, I would like to thank Abigail Kelly for the arc of Burden’s Bonds in exchange for my honest review. It’s been a dream come true to be able to be apart of the arc team!

Trigger/content warning? Yes! It can be found at the end of the book.

Details to know?
This book starts in July 2045, and then jumps to April 2048.
This book contains matter where hormones heavily effect an individual’s way of thinking. Once an individual (orc in this instance) is within smelling distance of their mate they experience a hormone shift that reorientates their world to be around their other half.
Kaz used to have an active sex life before seeing Atria at the wedding. He was very female pleasure focus, but he’s never been in a relationship before. He only did hook ups. He tried once after seeing her (and knowing she was his mate) but he was so repulsed by the scent of another woman he never tried to hook up again.
Atria was in a 6 year relationship with a man named Norman. He does cause minor OM drama. Atria and Norman have been broken up for a year after the time jump. She (obviously) did not recognize (or even see) Kaz at the wedding as her mate.
When Atria and Norman broke up she didn’t want to have casual sex so she has been celibate.

My thoughts?

Burden’s Bonds is an emotionally potent book.

Abigail Kelly has a magical way of weaving together characters. Kaz and Atria are truly made for each other, and I found myself rooting for them right from the first chapter all the way until the last. There were outside conflicts, and internal as well. While fighting off the bounty on Atria’s head, Kaz is also figuring out what it means to be a mate. Reading Atria & Kaz’s perspective had me wanting to simultaneously give them a hug, a blanket for their nest, and also a stern talking to about communication. Miscommunication popped up a couple of times throughout this chunker of a book, and it infuriatingly (as the reader) made perfect sense with their personalities and histories. Atria’s empathic abilities truly were Glory given to be able to tell what her mate was feeling in that moment. His physical emotional-reactions are minimal, but in his mind? His soul? Atria’s awe of him spoke all for itself.

Atria was not only Kaz’s bright shining light to follow, and to brighten his life, but also the reason why I enjoyed this book so much. She had the exact reaction I would expect for someone who is being kidnapped, and it was refreshing to experience. When she sees someone as hers, and she claimed Kaz, she became not only his mate but also his protector. Regardless of the size difference, she was ready to have Kaz’s well-being in mind whether it was to protect him emotionally or physically. She soothed hurt feelings at a tense family dinner. She almost crushed an Elvish assassin as a consequence of a real threat to hurt her mate. She thought of him and his feelings when no one else did. I also was partial to her character because of her love and understanding of Delilah. Their scenes together were some of my favourites in the book.

Kaz. Dear goodness Kaz. I properly developed a soft spot for the gruff, non-expressive, and no-nonsense Orc in Consort’s Glory. That soft spot has continued to grow with my rereads of the books in this series. He is family dedicated and orientated. He also has trauma that was told in a bare-bones way previously to this book. His story in Burdens’s Bonds added the depth and complexity to complete the picture. I felt so deeply for him, to simultaneously be a badass protector but also someone who is deeply hurt by his past. By things he didn’t even do, but had to carry the weight of his entire life. I understood why he was wary. I will say though, his growth as an individual getting comfortable in his skin with new found knowledge was heart warming to read about.

Found family. Road trip. Kidnapping(ish). The type of spice that had me sweating. Growth as individuals and as a couple. Morally grey family members who have…low to no moral compass. New characters and faces (I personally hope will) to pop up in future books! Plus so much more.

Also! I have a new high score for how many yellow(I-love-this-it-made-me-smile-or-it-made-me-laugh) highlights I made! A whopping 317!

I got an arc of one of my most anticipated releases and of course, ITS A FIVE STAR

Burden’s Bonds is a masterpiece and I’ll shout it from every rooftop I can climb. Abigail Kelly really just gets me and delivers everything I want every single book it’s incredible. Something this author does so well in every one of her books, but especially this one, is make her characters so strong through their vulnerabilities. Astria and her emotions, oh my gosh, I felt so seen as a soft girl who’s been told she feels and loves more than others (and is also a little feral for her mate). You could feel her emotions pour off the page and onto you, it was truly beautiful to experience. Kaz trying to understand himself, his emotions, and who he is with another, was so stinking cute and inspiring after everything sweetie has locked inside himself. THEYRE JUST PERFECT TOGETHER AND FOR EACH OTHER I SWEAR!! I’ll never get over how much I love grumpy simps and Kaz is a textbook definition perfect grumpy simp

This book was sweet, heartwarming, heartbreaking, steamy, all of the essentials and everyone should read it and the entire series because the New Protectorate has my heart and soul and I hope to never leave this world. Thank you so so much to the author for allowing me to have an arc

This book contained so many things that are on my list of loves: road trip, found family, emotionally constipated MC, touch her and die.

This being the 3rd book in the main series, I loved getting glimpses back to previous characters and storylines, yet this was solely its own story with rich emotions and characters. We follow Kaz a half orc who does not want a mate and would rather stay unemotional and unattached and Atria a former priestess turned scientist, who craves touch and is still struggling to find herself and her own worth in the world...and all of he utter chaos that forces these 2 together and to figure out what they need from life and one another.

It's full of action, fighting, love, and discovery mixed into a road trip, a failed kidnapping, and managing to piss off our favorite Sovereign along the way.

In summary, this was glorious.

I received an advanced copy of this book, but all opinions are my own.

This is a dense and intense heist/road trip container for a romance involving two messy but lovable protagonists.

Kaz the half orc is very much a typical grouchy bad boy action hero. He has been a recurring supporting character in the prior New Protectorate novels and Abigail Kelly does a great job of setting up the character and building reader emotional investment. While you don’t have to read the other books to enjoy this one, the payoff in terms of satisfaction seeing Kaz get his girl is a bonus for series readers.

Kelly’s sex scenes are getting more fun as the series progresses. “Fun” meaning not necessarily the characters (although they’re clearly enjoying themselves) but fun in that Kelly seems to be having more fun writing the scenes and exploring ways different characters can express themselves through sex.

Atria is smart and easy both to like and sympathize with. Kelly puts a lot of work into her character’s emotional development and backstory without heavy handed over explaining. Kaz and Atria’s respective trauma is key to the plot and it is as complicated for them to unwind that aspect of their relationship as it is to resolve the big picture social/political drama in which they find themselves.

“It was either tears of relief or he throw up. If he had to choose, he vastly preferred the tears.”

The complexity and integration of New Protectorate lore (geography, religion, time line, species cultures, politics) is one of the best thing about the books but there are minor continuity hiccups, if you care about that sort of thing.

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR KAZ'S BOOK FOR FOREVER AND I AM SO GLAD I GOT AN ARC BECAUSE I NEEDED KAZ AND ATRIA IN MY LIIIIIIIIIFE. From page one, this book was unputdownable.

Atria is a perfect match for Kaz and Kaz's hang-ups surrounding matehood are just SO legit and understandable, as the child of such a wild mess between his father known as "the mad king" and then his mother giving him up. Like OF COURSE he has issues, and I EXTREMELY appreciate that Atria does not hold any of them against him--there is something VERY wholesome and dare I say HEALTHY about their relationship where the solution is: hey, let's talk this out.

ALSO the peeks we get at the other characters from previous books is such a delight, as always. Delilah particularly was just *chef's kiss* perfection. I love her. What a Queen.

One of the elements of worldbuilding in these books that I really appreciate is that Abigail Kelly does such a good job of showing how religion can provide help and support and essential services for the community but also can inflict harm when taken to extremes--and now that I've said that, I feel like that isn't JUST the religious elements but also EVERY element of worldbuilding in these books. Just on the whole they are anti-extremism, and hey, no, the ends do not always justify the means, and there are consequences for taking things too far. Even Delilah, who can see the future, doesn't get a pass.

ALL OF THIS TO SAY, I EXTREMELY LOVED ABIGAIL KELLY'S ORC ROMANCE AND I WANT MORE PLEASE THANKS, GO BUY THIS BOOK AND ALL THE OTHERS IN THE SERIES BECAUSE EVERY SINGLE ONE HAS BEEN A DELIGHT TO READ.

3 stars is a stretch. This book was not my favorite. 1) too long 2) the characters individually were fine but together I didn’t love it - I normally like a protective MMC but this was over the top. 3) the intimate scenes were just a little too much for me and I thought took away from the story overall. I DO continue to like the general world and setting of the books and the overlap is fun, just didn’t like this one as much as I thought I would.

Burden’s Bonds by Abigail Kelly is a book I have been waiting for since the hero was introduced in Kelly’s first full-length novel, Consort’s Glory. It is part of her New Protectorate series. Kelly brings us back to the alternate US called the United Territories and Allies (UTA) in the near future where humans coexist with fey, demons, elves, witches, and more.

Kazimir Rione is half-orc and half-elf. He is half-brother to the sovereign of the Elvish Protectorate, Theodore Solbourne (from Consort’s Glory), as well as in charge of his protection. At Theodore’s wedding, Kaz saw a witch that he knew was his mate, but decided that they would both be better off not knowing each other. A few years later, Atria Le Roy, a witch and scientist, found a breakthrough in her research and decided it was time to show it to the world. Unfortunately, some people didn’t want Atria’s knowledge shared, so they put out a bounty on her. As soon as Kaz heard of it, he knew he had to protect her, but how would he do it if she didn’t know they were mates?

I loved reading this book! I was surprised to see that Kaz’s mate would be an empath since he comes off as very hard, but opposites attract! Their devotion to each other was so sweet to read. I enjoyed seeing Kaz’s soft side come out with Atria. I also liked reading about a soft heroine who could hold her own. I also loved revising previous New Protectorate characters, like Theodore, Margot, and Delilah. There are some dark themes to this book, so make sure to read the content warnings.

If you love paranormal or fantasy romances, opposites attract, fated mates, road trip, forced proximity, and a hero who would do anything for their heroine, then this book is for you!

Huge thanks to Abigail Kelly for sending me an ARC to review!

Abigail continues to be a master of world building, story pacing, breadcrumb trails, and cliff hangers! An unprecedented bounty, an involuntary road trip, some hard core nesting, a voluntary road trip--mix it together and you've got a recipe for a delectable adventure where finding the right partner can help you find the road to healing old wounds.

Kaz is as broody as ever as he fights elvish AND orcish mating instincts. As the EVP's spymaster, he's convinced he's not a man made for matehood. Atria is on the verge of announcing a world-changing scientific discovery with her best friend Ruby Goode. She just needs to get to the conference in United Washington and make the presentation.

I was so ready to watch Kaz get suckerpunched by matehood after listening to him rail against the idea for two books. And Abigail delivered so well on that promise. Having dual POV in this book was vital to how the characters interacted with each other. Atria's power as an empath relies on her ability to feel what the people around her are feeling. Experiencing the power and depth of emotion that Kaz kept buried so deep was critical to her understanding him as her mate and as a person. Sifting through the layers of his gruff exterior and finding the deepest, warmest ocean of his soul was beautiful to read and achingly poignant to watch unfold.

Watching Atria fight her own battle with old insecurities and realize that the "flaws" she was told she had as a Bonded priestess just made her human. The learning curve for matehood is just as steep on the receiving end of that care when you've never experienced unconditional love and affection. I loved watching Atria and Kaz navigate the very uncharted waters for both of them in their fledgling matehood in this novel.

Oh, and who can forget Delilah fucking Solbourne, the biggest BAMF to ever grace the page, and whom gets better and better with every cameo and storyline she's a part of.

I picked up this book because it gave me very similar vibes to the Clecanian series. The overall story gave very similar vibes and that’s the only reason I gave it an extra .5 stars. The book was 200 pages too long. It’s incredibly repetitive with the internal monologues between Kaz and Atria.

I did actually like most of the character development of Kaz and Atria. They had a lot of pain and hurt from their childhood and we can see that they helped each other heal. What got annoying was that their relationship grew steadily throughout the book until they got to the homestead. It stopped and became annoying. They had miscommunication issues from the beginning but those were resolved just to be replaced with stupider miscommunication issues.

I had to start skimming the last 200 pages because it really was so boring. Nothing really happened. And the whole book was leading up to this conference but its left opened ended. Also I hated that Kaz became extremely weak the one day the whole book led up to.

The last major issue I saw was the Ruby storyline. It was a huge aspect in the first few chapters then it became background noise. This storyline should have been driving more of the story. But it almost became an after thought by the end. I also don’t like how there was no conclusion of even development of Ruby after the first initial chapters.

Overall, if the book had been shorter and fixed some the issues mentioned above, I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more. I don’t really recommend since its not that interesting of a story. Even the bodyguard dynamic isn’t much a protector/bodyguard dynamic. The book felt more like a found family and healing childhood trauma book.

Burden's Bond was a fantastic adventure, and Kaz and Atria are incredibly compelling characters. I really enjoyed how this book dealt with grief, loneliness, and guilt. The way it handled complex relationships with family members was great.

After reading 3 books + 1 novella by Abigail Kelly, I think I can say that I enjoy her world-building and story-telling, but there are aspects of her writing-style (especially her novels) that my reading-style that don't mesh. I've really enjoyed the novellas, but the novels are what I've struggled most with (take that with a grain of salt because I have really enjoyed the novels) I find that the pacing of the novels are a little stilted and the full novels just drag a little bit. Additionally, there are parts of every novel that I feel we're dropped crumbs about a central part of the character's identity and that core experience/ideology is not explored in nearly as much depth as I'd like. For example Atria's relationship with her mother/her past as a priestess, or Margot's feelings and relationship with her Coven's actions during her childhood, both these feel like core experiences that form our characters, but they're largely just mentioned and not explored. I do wonder if some of the issues that I see have to do with the novels being initially released in a serialized format before being published as a full novel.

That being said, I do really enjoy these novels and novellas, there are just small writing quirks that sometimes leave me wanting when I put down the book.

『I want to wear you, princess, just like you’re wearing me.』

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
(ARC review)
This is a story of Kaz and Atria’s relationship. And let me tell you something, this boy is such a drama queen. For sure he is strong, handsome, powerful and clever, but he needed a really good push to start listening of what Atria has to say and slowly opening himself to his girl.
For our lovely girl story started when he tried (btw, he was successful, but his communication skills should be improved) to save her from abduction. But for him story started three years before and he just decided not to pursue her (mistakes mistakes).
I’m in love how Abigail delivered characters’ growth and their way to accept their situation. Kaz’s thoughts and talks were so cute (mind you he had a really dirty mouth, but at the same time the way he treated his mate was simple everything).
Also i love the way the general plot with all this politics, games and betrayals is done and how through all books we are following this crucial part of the story.

Many thanks to Abigail Kelly for sharing this beautiful arc with me (in exchange for an honest review).

I applied to the ARC team for this book because I knew I couldn't wait to read this book lol

I have been counting down the minutes til we got Kaz's story because I'm an unrepentant orc lover and this book DID NOT disappoint. I loved the background of the FMC, the author did an amazing job making such a detailed and interesting world so every new character is especially fun because you get to learn more! Kaz was just the right mixture of gruff and soft, the perfect rough around the edges cinnamon roll. I enjoyed every second of this book but, as with all of Kelly's novels, by the end I was already desperate for the next one. There were so many interesting new characters introduced, I couldn't even decide who I hope is next!!

I enjoyed this book, but I preferred earlier books in the series.

They both talked things out (once they realized there was an issue). I found it very annoying that the hero assumed the heroine knew she was his mate. She saw his mate mark and assumed he'd either lost his mate or was cheating on his mate. She had no idea.

Heroine is a witch and an empath. The hero is half elf and half orc.

The steamy scenes were very steamy. The hero has a genital piercing. They were both very happy to please the other person.

I liked how there was romance and a plot. This book is longer at over 500 pages and I didn't feel like the story dragged.

My main issue is the heroine had a difficult childhood. The hero also had a difficult childhood. It was tough to read about.

I knewwwww Kaz was going to have the filthiest mouth and I am so thankful I was right.

The inner couple conflict in this one was a little hard for me to stomach because it was insecurity and hiding things which lead to a LOT of miscommunication and hurt feelings. But also I understood why both of them were keeping things secret and doubting each other. Somehow the miscommunication was… well done???

The love the Soulbourne family has for each other is so great and warm. Exploring Orclind and the New Zone was exciting. I’m glad this series is expanding slowly even if once again I had to read about a half elf and witch lol.

*sigh* I really love Abigail Kelly's work, but I'm not into all the classic “will they or won’t they” romance. This book has some awesome action and moves at a good pace, but it seriously
dragged on with the whole annoying denial of fated mates. I get where Kaz’s coming from, but it was just too much. And don’t even get me started on the ✨miscommunication✨. This couple isn’t my favorite, and I’m still waiting to see who can top Otto and Josephine’s romance in this UTA universe because I’m all about that longing vibe. If you love a bit of drama with action and bodyguard lover trope then yes go for it! it’s not a bad book, just not for me.

DEFINITELY my favorite of the books so far!! I really really enjoyed this one. Romance was super cute as usual, and I felt like the plot in this one really stepped it up. Nothing insanely complex, but it definitely kept my attention and the pacing was just right.

For some reason, I really loved when we got to meet the Fracture team… I wasn’t really expecting it, but I was immediately hooked by the whole concept and the characters themselves. Overall, the world-building was still slightly murky for me in parts, but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the book.
