When Callie meets charming Micky Fisher, she thinks she’s set for life. Attractive and charismatic he soon woos her into marriage.
But as Callie already knows, nothing good ever lasts, does it?
Soon married life has become mundane, Micky likes drinking far too much and his nuisance best mate, Jez, is a constant and malign presence in their marriage.
Following a tragic accident Callie’s life goes from bad to worse. Micky loses his job; and can they really afford the massive extension they’re having built, especially now they no longer need it?
Callie begins to make plans for the future but fate has other ideas and the builder steps in to help her out of an impossible situation. Finding herself entangled with him in a way she could never have imagined, she’s beginning to wonder who she can trust.
Because how can she trust anyone when she can’t trust herself?
CJ Morrow writes the kind of fiction she likes to read and since her taste is varied so are her books. She loves a romcom with a guaranteed happy ending, equally she loves a psychological thriller especially where the ending is a plausible shocker.
When she doesn't like what's going on in the world, she writes another one.
Word weaver, lover of things curious, unseen and unexplainable, general wordy person. Always watching and laughing, mostly at herself.
I raced through this book as I had to know what was going to happen. Very well written with excellent characters and Callie was so real that I really felt for her. She’s not had much luck in life and must have thought she’d struck lucky when she met Micky, despite his annoying mate Jez. I don’t want to give anything away but the end was both satisfying and apt. A well deserved five stars.
I loved this book and read it in one sitting; once I’d started it I couldn’t put it down until I’d finished. Callie is just your average girl – or is she? – and she settles down with Mickey after a chance meeting in the pub. I wasn’t sure where this story was going but there wasn’t a dull moment and it kept me turning the pages. At times, I was almost cheering Callie on and the ending was just perfect. I recommend you read this book immediately if you like domestic psychological thrillers.
Although a little far fetched this book does make you want to race through it to find out what will happen.
Callie and Micky Fisher meet in the pub where she works and are soon married and home owners who embark on having work done in their new home. As with most relationships that move quickly, the dynamics in the relationship soon change and Callie begins to question who she married. Micky spends all his time in the pub with his friend Jez whilst Callie works every shift under the sun. But it’s all about to change when Micky goes too far!
It definitely took a twist I wasn’t expecting. My one gripe is I really wish it was longer and went into more details about the little things but I’m not complaining! It was nice to get away from the typical physiological thriller narrative. PS there are a few typos and grammar errors.
Hats off to the author for this twisty domestic thriller, I loved it. You're instantly immersed in the whirlwind relationship of Callie and Mickey. She thinks he’s a great catch, then… not so much.
The cast of characters was brilliantly done, especially the builder, I wasn’t sure if he was trustworthy or not, even Callie at times, and the fast-paced action kept me guessing right up until the last chapter. The ending was *chef's kiss*.
Definitely makes you think about what’s really going on behind closed doors. An easy five stars from me, highly recommend!
A compelling fast paced thriller which had me hooked within the first few pages. I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a story of circumstance and the horror that it could easily happen to any of us. This book really makes you question what you would be willing to do for the ones that you love and it hammers home the importance of being choosy about who you decide to build a life with. Highly recommend.
