As she navigates her unconventional dating life, Harper slowly discovers she is becoming just what her peers see in Scott. Despite the hurdles they face together, they believe they are good for each other. But at whose expense?

Harp is in her first real relationship with the school player. He claims he has changed and asks Harper to trust him. We all remember high school, the rumor mill churns so fast, especially when a freshman is dating the hot, popular senior. Join Harper on her journey of love, questions and fears.

Well written and takes you back to that first love. Dives into all of the thoughts we all had, am I good enough, does he love me, is he just using me, are the rumors true and most importantly can I trust him? Heather dives into all this and more in a book that you won’t be able to put down!!!

I was mailed this book to me by the author herself. I enjoyed this cute YA that was based in high school during the 90s. It was a very nostalgic read, and I enjoyed all of the 90s references. The main characters had a cute relationship bond forming that I enjoyed and felt the author really captivated the essence of high school love. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Just Us by Heather White Driscoll is the first book I read by this author. I can tell you when reading this book I felt the nostalgia of being back in high school. Though in those days I was a wallflower who would never have dreamed she gets to do her favorite thing…read and review books. There was so much more in between the lines than what the book had described!

Harper is a strong self-sufficient girl starting her first year of high school. She thinks she’s ready to conquer whatever is thrown at her. What she didn’t expect comes in the for of a senior named Scott. They literally met with a bang as Harper blowed into him trying to make it to second period. (We all feared be late to a new class 😳😨🫣) When Scott the captain of varsity basketball ball takes a liking to her… it seems all he’ll breaks loose. (🎇🎇)

The book is about the trials and tribulations that not only Harper face but the teenagers today. Being victims of rumors, unrealistic expectations and suddenly being the center of attention. The entire book is told from Harper’s perspective so we get to follow along with her as she find herself in an unexpected relationship, all the cringe worthy moments we all experienced but most importantly she’s learning she stronger than she initially believed. That she can stand on her own two fit with confidence. That whatever comes at her and Scott if they work together they can overcome it. That if they work together they have a good chance of making the distance.

I couldn’t put this book down when I started reading it, I smiled, laughed, flinched and was generally happy reading this book. It’s a very good realistic take on a high schoolers life. I recommend that you go pick this book up, right now! It’s very well written and you’ll fall for the characters. I’m super excited after I post this review I get to start the next book, “All In.”
So that’s what I’m going to do… I’m going to go read! (😂😂❤️❤️)
Final rating of book: 5 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Realistic depiction of high school 5 out of 5 notebooks 📓📓📓📓📓
And because I like the author so much 5 out of 5 flowers 🌺🌸🌺🌸🌺

So I had to sit on this review overnight and because I was enamored by this book.I am going to try to write this without spoiling anything.

First of all, this brought me back. I was a freshman at the same time Harper was. I too dated older guys like Harper. She was a complex and a mature character, however her age definitely showed as well. As a mother of a teenage girl, I felt like I wanted to protect her even though she didn’t need it. I was Harper, not in all aspects, but many.

Scott, what is there to say about him. He was every girl’s dream. How he treated Harper just showed how much he cared for her, however it also shows his age; which isn’t a bad thing. His character was perfectly written and very much “that guy” in high school.

I loved their relationship from day 1; although a very unlikely one. The adult me would often understand Scott’s POV with the conflicts that happened but the high school me completely understands Harper’s POV and reactions to conflicts.

This is a story of first loves. It’s sweet and crazy at the same time. It is one that will forever been ingrained no matter the outcome.

4.3/5 ⭐️

I enjoyed reading Harp and Scotty's love story💖
The book is a high school romance that depicts the relations of Harper a high school freshman and Scott a high school senior.
The book was nostalgic and can be relatable to many high schoolers.
The book had me on a ride with my emotions.
I enjoyed each of the characters, I do wish I got a little but more of Harper's best friend she was truly a character and made me chuckle!

The reason I won’t give it 5 ✨ is because of the age gap. It’s not seen much of a taboo in the 90s when the book is taking place but it did make me a bit iffy. My opinion ultimately started to change throughout the book and seeing how there was an acceptance among the parents and such.

Overall this book had a slow start but picked up pretty quickly and was really good. I would recommend this to anyone that loves romance and happy endings. Very much hallmark movie vibes☺️

This was the first book I read by Heather White Driscoll. I am very excited to continue the series!

I really really loved this book! I wish I could give it 4.5 stars!

The book follows Harper, a high school freshman, and Scott, a high school senior and their relationship through all of the ups and downs of a school year.

I loved all of the late 90s references and sometimes even forgot that it wasn't set today.

The reason I rated this book 4.5 stars is because I really did struggle with the age gap. I know in real life that three years isn't a big deal, but when you are talking about such mature topics with a 9th and 12th grader I struggle. Partially because I teach 9th graders and I can't imagine them doing some of the things that Harper and Scott did in the book!

Also, the years the book is taking place I was Harper's exact age and I was super naïve and couldn't imagine doing the things they did! That is just me, though.

Overall I thought this was a great book and I can't wait to continue on with the series!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It kept me engaged and wanting to know more about Harper and Scott. They overcame so much within the beginning of their relationship and in the end really made it “Just Us”. I can’t wait to read the next book to see how their relationship, hopefully, grows! Heather White Driscoll is an amazing author and really made me feel the emotions of the characters!

I had high hopes for this book and series, it was recommended by a friend and I’ve read nothing but stellar reviews on multiple platforms…

I’m really disappointed in this book but especially with myself for actually investing the time it took for me to finish it.

This book was not for me and despite that fact, I would have rated it higher if it were actually written well. The author did a great job bringing the 90’s nostalgia with the musical references and period clothing that the kids wore. The intent was there with the first love, high school, coming of age story, but the writing itself felt frenzied and all over the place, more like a rough draft than an edited novel.

Also, depending on who will be reading this, although this is about a high school couple, keep in mind there is a questionable age-gap between the main characters and a lot of sexual content, more suitable for upper YA than YA.

I absolutely love this authors and I thoroughly enjoyed the first 40-50% of this book. I loved the characters and the plot and the setting being the 1990s! Everything was SPOT ON! I loved re experiencing first love and first year of high school and living in the 90s through the eyes of the 15 year old FMC. My ONLY complaint is the obsession ALL the characters had with sex and for the second half of the book it was almost all that happened or was talked about in the book …which made me feel like a creep reading so much sex through the eyes of a 15 year old. I kind of wish there wasn’t SO much detail during the sex scenes and more detail about other things going on in the book and other character development.
BUT I am SOOOOO excited to watch these characters grow up over the next THREE BOOKS (and to be able to read about their sexual experiences and not feel awkward! Lol)

Heather White Driscoll's "Just Us" immerses readers in the turbulent and often exhilarating world of high school through the eyes of fourteen-year-old Harper Whitmore. Harper, a quick-witted and assertive freshman, finds her life irrevocably changed when she collides—literally and figuratively—with Scott Pierce, the charismatic captain of the varsity basketball team.

Harper's journey begins with the excitement and confusion of first love. Scott, a senior who exudes confidence and charm, swiftly becomes a significant part of her life, leaving little room for other romantic interests. Their relationship quickly becomes the focal point of high school gossip, with Harper finding herself the subject of intense scrutiny. Driscoll skillfully portrays Harper's internal struggle as she grapples with her new identity as Scott's girlfriend, an identity shaped as much by her peers' perceptions as by her own feelings.

One of the novel's strengths is its exploration of the complex dynamics of teenage relationships. Harper's fascination with Scott is tempered by her awareness of the power imbalance in their relationship. As she navigates the social hierarchy of high school, she begins to realize how much she is changing to fit into Scott's world—a realization that forces her to confront who she is and what she wants.

Driscoll's writing shines in her depiction of Harper's internal growth. The protagonist's journey is one of self-discovery and empowerment, as she learns to assert her own identity and values amid the pressures of high school life. The nuanced portrayal of Harper's development is both relatable and inspiring, making her a compelling character for readers of all ages.

The novel also raises important questions about the cost of relationships and the influence of peer pressure. Harper and Scott's belief that they are good for each other is tested by the realities of their different social standings and personal ambitions. Driscoll does not shy away from depicting the challenges they face, offering a realistic and thought-provoking portrayal of young love.

"Just Us" is a poignant and engaging story that captures the highs and lows of teenage romance and the search for self-identity. Driscoll's ability to weave humor, heartache, and hope into Harper's story makes this a standout novel in contemporary young adult fiction. It is a must-read for anyone who has ever been in love or navigated the tricky waters of high school.

Overall, "Just Us" is a beautifully written, insightful, and emotionally resonant novel that will leave readers reflecting on their own experiences of love and identity. Heather White Driscoll has crafted a memorable and impactful story that resonates long after the last page is turned.

I had this book shipped to me directly from the author, and to if I had to use on word describe the first book in this series, I would chose stunning.
This book immediately brought me right back of high school. Harper felt like a reflection of myself when I was that age, independent, strong willed, able to hold her own, academically driven, and goal orientated.
The beginning of high school is such an important part of everyone’s lives and Heather Driscoll described it perfectly.
When Harper started her freshman year of high school she had everything planned out to the t. However these plans got disrupted when she met senior basketball player and ex player, Scott. Scott us know for his rocky history with girls around the school, but Harper can’t help herself and develops feelings for him anyway and he develops the same for her.
This book follows Harper from her perspective thorough out her freshman year while she navigates so many issues all teenagers do. She has trouble with drama and rumors and wondering if it is too much for her.
I can’t say it enough but this book captures all every feeling, every scene, everything a person could experience at this point in their life absolutely perfectly. The feeling of young love, and high school relationships, friendships, giving yourself to another person for the first time.
This book had me hooked from the moment I started reading it. I felt as though I was in the story watching Harper experience all of these things for the first time. I felt as though I personally knew these characters.
I would 100% absolutely recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
This book is one of my 5 star and top reads ever!!!
Excited to read more about Harper and Scott in the following book.
If you haven’t yet, take some time to give this book a read, you won’t regret it!

Excellent book. This is about YA, not for YA! A young couple meet in high school, Harper is a freshman and Scott is a senior. The age difference was there, but didn't seem weird at all. You read about their love story, grow with them, and read about their first time experiences. It brought me back to high school since it is 1997 when the book starts. I love all the 90's references. There are dark moments in the book, but the overall love story is great. The adult me kept cringing at some of their decisions and their arguments, since I have either "been there, done that" or I just know better now lol. I highly recommend this book.

Below is the synopsis:

Fourteen-year-old Harper Whitmore has just entered high school as a naïve five-foot tall freshman who has a quick wit and an ability to hold her own. Although she is convinced she is prepared to take on the world (or her tiny island of it), everything changes when she collides with the popular, attractive captain of the varsity basketball team just before second period.

Scott Pierce quickly moves in on Harper, leaving little chance for anyone else to date her. Both fascinated and terrified by her relationship with the seemingly worldly senior, Harper becomes a captivating subject of gossip that soon makes her keenly aware of how others see her relationship with a guy who always gets precisely what he wants. As she navigates her unconventional dating life, Harper slowly discovers she is becoming just what her peers see in Scott. Despite the hurdles they face together, they believe they are good for each other. But at whose expense?

Just Us is the story of a high school freshman's journey through love, identity, and confidence after she begins dating the most popular guy in her high school.

I loved this story , super relatable I love how it just feels so real. It got better and better moved real fast. Can’t wait to see what happens next. There were moments where I wanted to rip the certain characters out of the book (which I messaged heather and told her so😂 )
{Hint🤫 The scene where Harper meets Scott’s mom😤 breathe and keep reading 😍}

There were moments I was just so entertained with the details of the story and all the characters. There’s spice🌶️🌶️🌶️ , first love, age gap, high school romance, high school drama. Definitely not YA in my opinion to each its own. The story is beautiful but check you trigger warnings. It was a little long at times but I loved that she got all that detail in there. Loved it all the way..

**EXPLANATION of why it took me so long to finish ***

It took my like 2weeks to get through the last pages because I literally did not want to put this book down. And 2whole months to read the whole thing!! 😱

It became my emotional support book these last months everywhere I went it came with me. Whether I read it or not. When I say that I felt this book I mean it. It took me back to my teenage years, maybe doing things I should be 🤪but still loved it. In my life time I’ve had 2books take me out of an emotional/mental slump and this was one of them. This may not be the same case for everyone I get it.
But I needed this story I really did. To take me out of this world (which is what any book does) and taking me in to Harper and Scott’s world is what I needed at this time.
Anyways here’s my review. This is why I love books I was going through some hard health months with my self and my husband and this was my book to cry on when I needed it to.

Honestly thank you Heather!!

I am not sure I can put into words just how much I loved this book, but I am going to try.

To start, the world built around these characters is beautiful. I love the small town island vibe, I love the involvement of ferry boats and the Bluffs. So much was put into the story building was beautiful.

The characters are probably one of my favorite set of main characters I’ve ever read. Not only do they remind me of my husband and myself, but I just love everything about them together.

Scott is a senior guy with a rough past, Harper is a responsible and hard working freshman ready to start her high school journey. Everything changes when they meet.

Not only is the writing style absolute perfection, but the dynamic of the characters, the banter, the spice. Even every one of the side characters had a way of drawing me in.

There was never a page in this book that I wanted to put it down, or stop reading. I didn’t find myself wanting to take a break, I was just ready to keep going.

Heather if you see this review, you are such a sweet person and so dedicated to not only Scott and Harpers journey, but also dedicated to your fans!
I cannot wait to dive into the second one, and I can’t wait til the release of the third one. ❤️

You...Well, you caught me off-guard." He grinned." I never wanted a girlfriend ---until you."

"Hey Harp," he yelled. His new nickname for me caught me off-guard. "You and only you are allowed to call me Scotty! Got that, Shorty?"

My entire freshman year, I had a crush on a senior boy who I thought had no clue I existed. Then at my sophomore homecoming bonfire I ran into him and had the courage to ask him to homecoming. I was shocked when he said yes. We attended the dance together. We slow danced to one song. I was incredibly aware of my hands and his hands and so nervous. After the dance we became boyfriend and girlfriend.
This book brought all that and so many more memories back for me. I was so young and so naive then. Just like Harper and Scott I was discovering new territory and just like Harper, girls who found out I was with an older guy got jealous and kept asking what he saw in me that he didn't see in them.
The nostalgia in this book is on point and I laughed at the mention of Y2K.
I'm so excited to continue this series and can't wait to read All In! I love Heather White Driscoll's writing style and see myself rereading this book again and again.

This is a must-read book. Just Us is a sweet book. While reading this book, it brought me back to that ’90s nostalgia and that first sweet love you experienced in high school. I felt as if I was the one walking the halls and holding hands with Scott.

Harper is entering high school. She has her life all planned out and she decides she does not want to date until college. She wants to focus on her schoolwork and herself. She just got her braces off and a nice tan. Harper wants someone to notice her, not as a freshman but as a beautiful girl. But everything is turned upside down when she and Scott run into each other one and another time again. Scott is the hot senior at her school. The one that would never notice her. They create a friendship and soon start to fall for each other. They create sweet memories and a bunch of first times together.

This Is the first book in the series, but it is so sweet. This book has everything high school related, ‘90s nostalgia, drama, and sweet first love. I am so happy I read this book and now I am going to read the second book.

Where do I even start. Firstly I really enjoyed this book and all the 90s nostalgia. I feel like high school me really connected with Harper for me. I was at freshman girl must like Harper to make it on the varsity team while also trying to figure out all the ins and outs of high school. It just brought back so many memories. All of the emotions you go through while following Harper's journey with all the things that come with your first love, felt like I was going back in time and reliving all of the thing I went through while navigating high school and my first love. I am really rooting for Harper and Scott in the next book and I can't wait to see how Harper grows and even how their relationship grows as the series goes on. I am beyond excited to start book 2 because this book has me hooked on this series now. I had high expectations going into this book and it did not fail me definitely a 5/5 star read and I would definitely add it to a must read if you like the 90s, high school romance and a book about discovery and growth. Well done Heather absolutely amazing! 🫶🏻

This book made me experience so many emotions!

I loved and hated the relationship between the main characters. It seems so sweet and genuine, but the age gap is difficult for me. Not that it matters later in life; but I think the gap is intentional to make the reader struggle. It's a beautiful push and pull.

The high school experience is captured in exquisite realism. I found myself thoroughly enjoying the nostalgia of reliving high school (this story is set when I was in high school). I also felt the pain of bullying, pushy guys, and the uncertainty of college. While I am glad to visit, it's a great reminder of why I'm glad to be done with high school drama!

More than anything, this book absolutely sucked me in and didn't let me go. The book renders emotions and situations in such perfection, that I found myself on a rollercoaster through the pages. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series and see where Harp and Scott go next!

Scott and Harper’s story is beautifully written. I feel in love with Harper from the beginning! Scott took some time but he grew on me! I literally laughed out loud at times in this book, I cried, I got angry… I had all the emotions. I have only ever read one other series that did that to me. But this one right here will always have a place in my heart. This book isn’t just a love story of two high schooler one a senior one a freshman but it’s about their growth with in themselves and in their relationship. I’m so proud of how they grew at times I felt like a proud mother!! Other times I wanted to protect them and shelter them from the outside world. Their was a few thing in the story that I had not seen coming. If you’re wanting an age gap romance with little to me spice but a story about growth and genuine love then this is the book for you!!! It’s beautiful Heather! Now on to book two, All In!!!

I absolutely devoured this book!!!
When i first got introduced to Harper and Scott the age gap sounded a bit iffy to me, but i realised that- since we get to read about both POVs when they discuss all sorts of topics- it made sense for the plot. I have never ever before fallen in love with the characters of a romance book! The character development of both of them was unbelievable!

I love how we get to see Harper being self conscious about her body, given that she’s a teenager, and her thoughts reminded me of the ones i used to have when i was her age. How will her (first) boyfriend perceive her? Will he pay attention to his insecurities? I adored how we got to take a look at her perspective.

I honestly wish i had kept this book for valentine’s day because the romance was just THAT good!!

Lastly, a huge thank you to Heather, who was kind enough to give me the chance to review and share her book with the world!🥹🫶

4/5 ⭐️ I really liked this book, It was a slow journey but in the final chapters was so fast that made me enjoy the book. This book was mailed to me and the only thing I can say is this was a opportunity to me to read this book because It have so good story that all people need to know. The story of Harp and Scotty is not the typical but it has cliches that made this book a good one. Harp grew up in this book but I know in the second part of this story Harp will grow more that in this first one, and about Scotty I thought I wouldn't like him but I love this boy, the Scotty that have a relationship with Harp, he is a really good fictional men. This book with the vibes of 90’s was great and new for me ‘cause was the first time I read a book that was in another century but it surprised me for good.

I started off with a glance on the first page where our main character Harper, a freshman entering high school is oblivious to everyone wanting in all the norms of being a high school student. She is hard headed about waiting till college to date and would rather spend her time focusing on herself and her studies, that is until moments later, Scott appears in front of her.

Scott is pretty charming, I think he is the main reason I got hooked! While Harper was already attracted to him, I think his personality and the way he felt about her gave him the better side of the story in spite of quite a bit red flags along the way. If you were one of those who adores book boyfriends, Just Us is the way to go!✨

Harper though, I feel there is a bit conflict of nature and maybe that's what kept me wondering!

I am counting on seeing Harper grow more in the further parts!

This is the first book in the series, and it is told from the perspective of a freshman girl as she falls for the big man on campus during the late 90s. He has a reputation of getting with quite a few girls, but Harper takes a chance on him. Driscoll takes us on a wild ride through Harper’s first year in the high school, as she deals with being the only freshman on Varsity soccer and track and dating a senior, Scott. Driscoll does a wonderful job creating the tension between Scott and Harper as they maneuver through a very adult relationship. There were points in the story that the characterization was off, and Harper began to border on precocious rather than just naive, as she was throughout most of the book. The scenes about the constant PDA was spot on for high school student; however, it was difficult to believe the coaches would allow the “stolen” moments before games. This is a fun read, and Driscoll does a great job pulling the reader into the Harp saga, leading the reader to the next book in the series.

Follow Harper and Scott as they navigate high school and their new relationship. Harper is a 15 years old virgin who enters her freshman year with no plans to meet a guy. She is the first freshman to make into into varsity soccer and that seems to preoccupy her time…that is until Scott enters the picture. Scott is a senior who has a reputation for sleeping around and not committing to one girl. Relationship is not a word in his vocabulary. I absolutely love Scott and Harper this book is so beautiful sweet and gave me throwbacks to the 90's. I loved the banter in this book between Scott and Harper I couldn't stop laughing. My heart was in awe with this book and I was swooning over Scott just like Harper 😂 this book is a 10⭐ rating for me it's just that good. I love the way Heather writes she makes you feel ever emotion there is to feel. This book was fluffy and glossy as she says and I understand why because it's preparing you for what comes next 😩 this series holds a special place in my heart I suggest you have a good snack for this book but some tissues and ice cream for the next book lol I definitely recommend just us you will fall in love with the story just like I did!! 💗💗
