A single burst of the sun… …and the apocalypse was here. Will the chaos keep them apart?
Lia’s meeting was on the 60th floor, in a corner office, with a view of Chicago that took her breath away. When the power went out, her gut told her something horrible was happening. Then she saw the plane heading for the building. She had to get out.
Terror swept through the office.
The ground floor was a long way down.
One wrong move might be her last.
Jasper’s short trip was going smoothly. Though he did find it strange he couldn’t get through to Lia during his flight to Kentucky. She was always easy to reach. Then the plane lost power. Jasper barely had a moment to gather himself before they hit the water.
It was a miracle he made it out and to shore with only some cuts and bruises.
Lost in the Appalachian Mountains, he’s got one thing keeping him going…
Get back to Lia.
With the power grid destroyed, society has crumbled more quickly than anyone was prepared for and now Lia and Jasper must battle for their lives if they ever want to see each other again.
Will they survive the first night?
Final Light is a post-apocalyptic survival thriller featuring the devastating force of coronal mass ejections. This brand-new series from Bestselling Author Derek Shupert features captivating characters and pulse-pounding, harrowing action. A disaster series perfect for fans of Kyla Stone, A.G. Riddle, Bobby Akart, Jack Hunt, and Ryan Schow.
Derek Shupert is an avid super hero fan (Marvel over DC Universe) and lover of Science Fiction. Derek likes to spend his free time putting down on paper the stories that he has contained in his imagination. By day, he is an Inventory and Distribution Services Center Manager but by night, he writes. To date, he has published four books; two Sci-Fi, a children’s book and a technology consumer guide. He is currently working on two more books which should be available early 2016.
Derek lives in Sherman, Texas with his wife, children and various pets.
This story was alright, though I have listened to much better stories in Type of book. I will not be continuing this Series either. Narrator did a good job with the entire storyline.
Weak! I couldn't get past 30%. I was shocked to read so much with little to no story progression. I feel the author should have spent more time on one story line then three, because I think the book suffered for it. The author also likes to use a lot of $10 words. "densley wooded sylvan"??? Interesting story, poorly executed.
A huge ball of energy was thrown from the surface of the Sun
Known as a Coronal Mass Ejection, when it hit Earth's atmosphere it overpowered and shut down the electric grid powering the United States. With no electricity to light the night, some sought shelter in their dark homes, some took comfort from authorities, some took to the streets using the darkness to embolden and enrich themselves in closed but vulnerable shops and stores. The overwhelmed authorities tried to maintain order, but they were mostly unsuccessful. This is a tale of the trials confronting different folk trying to return to loved ones and others taking advantage of the dark to pursue agendas suited for a dark night. How would you fare when the lights are out? The characters are great, the storyline follows different groups through the unrest and the storytelling holds your attention. This is a good read! I'm looking forward to continuing this series.
Final Light: Blackout Survival Book 1 is the opening chapter in Derek Shupert's post-CME survival thriller series and has far more threats than just civil unrest. Lia and Jasper are separated by 1500 miles, while Sean, an ex-SWAT team member takes advantage of the chaos to embark on a mission of vengeance against those he believes wronged him, including Jasper and Lia. Throw in mob enforcers and the Russian Mafia, and you have a recipe for a whole lot of chaotic fun! The writing is good, with believable characters, good dialog, A fast paced and well organized plot and clear description of both environments and events. 4/5 stars, highly recommended to those who enjoy the post-EMP/CME survival thriller genre and anyone who enjoys edge of the seat thrillers. On to book 2!
The author weaves three separate but related storylines all happening at the same time to three principals as they are going about their business. Their paths are intertwined and the fact that they are affected by an EMP/CME hasn't really consciously hit them makes the story more interesting. This first book seems to be a build up to a climax that will hopefully bring them together soon to complete the story.
We move from the points of view of Lia, Jasper, and Sean. There is drama and action ongoing. It was easy to follow but there isn't quite enough information to fully get into our characters. Seems as though the author wants a build up to when our three main characters meet up or something. I was able to stay interested and keep the pages turning. Decent opening as book one.
What a great start to this new series. Our main characters, Jasper, Lia and Sean all lead us on an exciting and action packed adventure in every chapter. Adding to the problems is the mystery surrounding Bill and the revenge that Sean is set on. All makes for one gripping story. Looking forward to the next one.
The start of an apocalyptic story that isn’t obvious. Communication is down, and no one knows what’s happening. This story is told by the main characters in alternating characters. The individual stories within this apocalyptic event are captivating. I love this story. I hope it continues. I’m looking for the second book now.
I really loved another book by this author and slogged through this one, but man, it was a miserable read! Lots of action, without a lot of progress in the story. I think the author is a great writer, just these particular characters had very few redeeming wualities (outside of Lia.)
I enjoyed the plot, but constantly giving the exact model name for his handgun was annoying. Do it once, maybe twice, then stop. It's your "handgun or semi-auto." The avg. reader doesn't care to see the model number over and over. The M24 is the military version of the Remington 700. It's a sniper rifle. Simply call it what its used for. Enjoyed the action.
Not crazy about the multiple revenge-vendetta plots, surviving the catastrophe & the dangers from outside, along with the loss of protective services, access to food, water, medical help are all gone!
Well thought out start and high octane action keeps you riveted. The hero's are everyday people, the villains you love to hate and a dark shade of gray character you can't decide to LOVE or hate yet. Cannot wait for book 2 to come out!!!
Too many things left unresolved at the end. I know there are more coming, but I needed a few more resolutions and less cliff hangers. I also did not like the Sean storyline or opening. Almost returned it after the opening. Won't be purchasing #2 in the series.
Final Light is a fast-paced page-turner. It's full of action from three different storylines right through the book and there is no let up. I definitely recommend reading it.
Good storyline, poor execution. The logic of the characters ' actions was not realistic, which was really frustrating. I wanted it to work but it fsiled. Will not purchase more in this series.
How can one person go on a crusader to get back at the system that he felt did him wrong. My question when reading this was what hat would I do is EMP . would I panic or be calm and think things through.
Enjoyed the book my first from Derek Schubert and already purchased the next book in the series
I really.enjoyed this fast paced first book I the series and thought it had good characters with a good story. I've already gotten the second book in the series.
It was a interesting premise but it took awhile to figure out who were the good guys and who were the bad guys! Plus it brought back memories of cities being looted and burned here just recently. Civilization is civil only until something goes wrong and then watch out!
SO BAD! Only reason I gave it a star was to warn you away. This author shouldn’t use big words—he has no idea what they mean, or how to use them. Butchered the English language. Would have been funny if it wasn’t so awful. Won’t bother to finish this series.
A scary fast pace story of what could happen in our world. Do you trust your neighbors or friends? Where your next meal coming from? Are you safe in your own home?
