In this beautiful hardback book, discover the enchanting world of Simone “Simz” Ferriero, an Italian artist who creates compelling images in which the modern day mingles with magical fantasy. Read about the lessons and obstacles Simz has faced on his career path, learn about the tools and techniques he uses, and figure out how to find your own creative style with his expert advice. The book begins with an in-depth look at the artist's creative journey, from early years and education to his professional milestones, and a look at the challenges of creating art for a living. There are two large galleries, one containing behind-the-scenes sketchbook pieces, and another focusing on Simone's modern-day witches and their spectral cat companions. Chapters on his creative process cover his tools, workspace, and advice on finding an original style, and a brand-new tutorial offers readers a chance to follow along and improve their own artistic skills. This book is an unmissable keepsake for Simone's existing fans, and a beautiful introduction to the artist for newcomers to his work.
I really enjoy these insider art books where you get to delve into the work of one artist and their creative process. I was attracted to this one because Simz creates a lot of full color artwork featuring cozy witches (similar to the art featured on the cover). He has created a community of witches who hang out at a cafe called "Coven", solve crimes against their fellow witches, and do various witchy jobs. It was also excellent to see each part of one piece of his artwork unfold in the form of transparent pages (there were six layers displaying each step of his art making process). I didn't know much about this artist before reading this book, but now I am a fan of his work.
Just received my copy from the kickstarter!! Absolutely stunning from cover to cover. I LOVE Simz’s art style, and this book delves into his process and shows his growth as an artist so far! 10/10 would recommend to anyone who loves art books or is curious about pursuing art.
I read this book within a day. It was sooo inspiring and such a good read. I’m starting in the professional art world and this book came at a perfect time. It has tips, the artist’s own insight on becoming an artist full time, and many more interesting stuff. Even if I have already read it, I will keep it close to me to keep reading it when I need it. 10/10
I adore the art style of this artist and the presentation of his illustrations in this book was beautiful. I enjoyed the little insights into aesthetic choices and backstory we got. I would have liked to have a more indepth tutorial, especially for the digital watercolour style the artist uses, but then I get if that is a trade secret he would like to keep :)
