On a planet where there are no rules, she’s the prize, and he will claim her, no matter what the cost.
I know I’m not ever getting back to Earth, but I’d settle for escape from the cage I'm being kept in. Instead, I end up as a prize in an alien game where a golden eyed, horned alien lord is the winner.
The Remek Lords are notorious for their brutality. Vicious, dangerous and feral, I’m about to get up close and extremely personal with one of the most ferocious species in this galaxy.
Only Taborr is not what I was expecting at all. Aloof, passionate, dominant, he knows exactly what he wants.
His fated mate.
Me.
He’s been alone in his citadel for a long time and, despite his savage nature, he has needs I never would have expected from such a fearsome alien.
He needs hope, a future, a way of freeing his captured crew, of being whole again.
I’m not sure I can love a monster, even one who's vicious exterior hides the noble beast within. I've already had my world ripped apart once and if Taborr wants my heart, he's going to have to fight for it.
Savage Prize is the first in the Warriors of the Citadel series by USA TODAY bestselling author Hattie Jacks. A love story filled with spice, a lonely alien finding his fated mate and a human discovering escape is not the only option, this book will take you to the stars and back. For mature audiences only.
DNF @27% - Clearing book queue for a fresh start. Not much to say about this one. This cover doesn't give the same energy as the story itself. The story had some interesting elements to it but I read that initial 27% in one go and then... never picked it back up again. Another future maybe?
Size difference Fancy 🍆 Alien Prince Human Female Kidnapping Saving/rescue Missions Vampire like aliens Breeding kink Slow burn Spicy 🥵🥵 HEA
This was amazing, I loved every minute of it👏🏻
This author never disappoints; the stories are always amazing and drag you right in until the end.
It starts with human Carla on the run from the Liderc; an alien race much akin to vampires. Taborr, an Alien Prince, is trying to take back him home planet from the Liderc. He saves Carla only to discover she is his Ekko; his fated mate. He takes her to his home "space ship" above the planet to save her and conivde her they belong together. Together, they must overcome their differences and help defeat the Liderc and take back Taborr's home planet.
I'm calling this a slow burn even because even though the spice happens pretty early on and continues throughout the book, it takes them a while to develop true feelings for each other. The spice was steamy and hot af; I loved the idea of his fancy peen (hint hint, I totally need a picture of what it looks like, please, and thank you). I loved how, despite Carla being scared, she was a total badass and willing to take the risks to save everyone. I loved it all; the humor, the spice, the plot, and meeting his crew and his brothers.
I can't wait for the next book; I need Vardas to get his mate 😍🥺 I hope we get to meet the other brother as well
Thank you to the author and team for a chance to ARC read this.
A great and spicy start to a new Sci-Fi Romance. Carla is a human woman who was abducted by an alien species known as the Liderc. A species that is known for taking over worlds and keeping varies species both human and alien as prisoners.
Taborr is a Warrior of the Citadel and a leader who loss his crew to the Liderc aliens and each day he fights to get them back. Being summoned unto the Liderc ship under the pretense of establishing a Peace Treaty; Taborr finds himself in the fighting arena with the prize being Carla.
This story was so fun to read because Carla was feisty and Taborr was fierce and barbaric but Carla brought out another side to him.
In Taborr, Carla found a semblance of freedom and safety. In Carla, Taborr found his purpose and reason to never give up on himself, his missing crew and his newly discovered mate.
In addition to having instant chemistry and attraction Taborr and Carla fought alongside each other and had each other's back. Not only did they find and rescue Taborr's missing crew but Carla also found other enslaved humans.
Taborr and Carla's story was spicy hot. Proving that love know no bounds and can even be found in a galaxy far, far away. I'm looking forward to reading about the Citadel Warriors finding their mates.
This is the start of a new series by Hattie Jacks and I have to say I loved the first book. The world building is great and the characters are wonderful great personalities, humor, passion and The need to belong . its just so good. Carla rough childhood stolen from earth and made nothing more than a slave or experiment , but she's tough she's not ready to give up not yet and then she meets an alien savage that steals her breath away. Taborr is a prince of his people lonely and doing what ever he can to make the beings who have hurt his people and destroyed his planet pay , revenge and finding his crew have been his only reason fro being until he saw the small female in the arena. One look and he knew he had to save her. Trust is hard to come by when you've been abducted or when your world has been destroyed, but these two learn to trust and with that trust comes a sense of belonging which leads to passion and love. That trust allows them to work together and save some of his people , find more humans and let the enemy know that this fight has just begun! This is a new author to me, and I definitely will be reading more of her work! This author’s characters are well developed, and her storyline was intriguing and entertaining. Carla is a strong-willed and sassy, damsel in distress. She measures well with Taborr’s angry and alpha personality. Taborr ultimately saves Carla and takes her back to his palace, he is drawn to her like he would be a mate, but that can’t be because they are two different species. He tries to stay away from her, but he is constantly drawn to her. Will he claim her as his own or will she be just a placeholder until he can find his people?
Carla is a human that was kidnapped by aliens. She is trying to survive in captivity but it is very hard. They don’t fed much or give much water. She is offered up as a prize when they catch her trying to escape for one to many times. She is abducted by Taborr. A male that may just be the hero she needs. They have an instinct attraction and act on it when they get out of danger and aboard his ship. He isn’t just any male alien he is a prince and she just so happens to make him purr. His changing eyes that turn golden just for her have a lot of meaning they will explore.
3.5 - 4 stars Imagine waking up in your own personal hell. Not knowing where you are or how you got there. Fighting to survive. This sci fi romance has lots of action monsters and fated mates. But it is all they can do to survive in a world full of terror. The story is not overly long but it is entertaining enough to escape for a few hours.
This is a new series. I miss the Gryn. I do. But the new guys are very promising. We get stolen down for boundless flight. Purring for preening. But another alien race that prioritizes bathing. So that’s cool. Because I’m often left wondering where the hell aliens get clean. If ever. But I digress.
It’s a new planet with similar difficulties. A bit more intense. Scary, actually. And Carla is “…the least scary thing here. The galactic equivalent of a hamster.”
She’s a 32 year old manager of a homeless hostel for five years. And is a bit more British as well, wanting to fill silences. That’s cute. And she rises to the occasion quite often. Despite not thinking she can.
Actually both MCs have that in common. Thinking less of themselves than they should. Not in a humble way, in a sort of beaten down by life way. And Taborr the hero does fly here albeit in a small ship. “The entire thing looks like a health and safety nightmare.” So again heroines who aren’t fond of flying.
I really like the Citadel. Very cool. Especially how it seems to have opinions on how Carla should dress.
But the story breaks down oddly when we leave the relationship behind, Taborr declares it isn’t his destiny to mate, and the adventure takes off. This is where alien stories aren’t well served by the fated mate trope. And what ever happened to San??
I am going to pick a colloquial bone though. I can let Brit spellings like “unfocussed” go. But there is grammar that crosses the pond. It’s just not proper English to say…and even less for an alien male to use this language:
“But when I saw her stood in the main quarters,…” — standing “Even having her sat on my shoulders…” — sitting “…a single Liderc sat in the center.” — sitting
Revisiting the baddies from the Gryn stories…ugh. And their genetic tinkering. Blech. It’s not that they don’t make good villains, but there are a LOT of villains in this series.
Overall, really liked it. Will definitely read on!
Errors: “…areole…” — is on a cactus, it’s areola “…obtain a cleansing cloth from and return.” — from where? “But these ones don’t move….” — these don’t “…it is not him who put her in this situation.” — not he who “…where as it once echoed with…” — whereas “…and if there is to be further battles,…” — there are
Questions: “…with a long lowing,” — he really sounds like a cow when…? “I look at where Taborr bit me.” — he bit her on the neck, and she can see it?? (No mirror)
This book started off promising with Carla being a strong willed damsel in distress after abduction from Earth. But quickly lost me with the rapid pacing and confusing world building. Taborr is the male main character, I found his personality very contradictory with going from passionate and sweet to having a major hangup with Carla not being his species, unwilling to "claim" her. A lot of the plot felt disjointed, which made it hard to read. I couldn't get past 75% of the story... On a positive note the smut was a chef's kiss, fated mates and alien abductions are some of my favorite tropes.
Although I really wanted to like this book, I was disappointed to write an honest negative review...but something about the writing style just didn't work for me. The overuse of the expletive "grak" (87 times) was a bit nonsensical and silly. But I do encourage you to try this book for yourself and form your own opinion.
I have tried this author in the past and I thought maybe it was not a good match but it could have been the series.
Well, I am not a good match for this author and I won’t read anymore by her. Maybe her erotic scenes are good but it doesn’t do anything for me if I can’t stand the characters or the world she builds
💙 “If I have to pluck the stars from the sky, move the suns from their orbits, I will, my ekko, for you.” ~~~ Carla is an amazing woman! She’s so brave, strong and fierce! Even more, being one to run a hostel for the homeless on Earth, she’s so caring and compassionate. And even when she was captured by aliens, I loved her defiance and resourcefulness and that she never gave up, no matter who she was facing. She’s so awesome and I loved her so, so much!
And Lord Taborr of the Remek is one phenomenal male! He’s a fearsome, dangerous, angry, lethal and vicious warrior who’s ready to fight for freedom by any means necessary. But there is more to him than meets the eye. Because Taborr is also fiercely protective, gracious, caring and incredibly loyal to his people and I loved his determination to never stop looking for his fellow warriors. Even more, I quite loved his possessiveness and dominance. But his loneliness broke my heart. Taborr is absolutely amazing and I couldn’t help but adore every single thing about this huge, gorgeous and horned alien Viking!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Taborr and Carla! What was first a peace offering, turned out to be nothing but a lie, but Taborr didn’t escape empty handed - no, he got himself a feisty little female alien. I loved those two together! And after her experience with aliens, it took some time for Carla to trust the Remek Lord, but the more time they spent together, the more she saw what a magnificent male this barbarian is. They had quite a lot to overcome but they were an amazing team and managed to deal with everything thrown their way. And when they couldn’t keep their hands off each other, the passionate moments they shared were blazing hot. Yeah, the Remek come with quite the extras and Taborr definitely knows how to use them. I couldn’t get enough of the naughty, knotty and bitey goodness! I, like Carla, wouldn’t mind being a good girl for one of those smoking-hot males.
In addition, the worldbuilding and the storyline were outstanding! It’s only the first book in the series and I’m already loving the Remek - those warriors might be deemed vicious and barbaric but they’re also honorable and protective. And I was quite fascinated with their flying citadels. Even more, the Liderc - who feed on other’s emotions - were such vile and evil species. With everything happening, the danger and the unexpected turns of events, I was glued to the pages till the very end.
Overall, the story is a phenomenal start of the series! It’s filled with danger, action, twists, betrayals, suspense, violence, blazing hot passion and spectacular characters.
I absolutely loved every page of it and cannot wait to see what happens next!
This is a new author for me, I love a good sci-fi read and this was really good, ticked all my boxes with hot protective alien, this one is a little broken, and a strong feisty female character with a caring soul.
Carla has been kidnapped from Earth and held hostage by the Liderc, who feed off emotions. They don't like her as they are unable to feed from her for some reason, and so she is offered up as a prize in an arena fight - this is where she meets Lord Taborr.
Taborr is on his own, his crew has been captured and he has been looking for them. He saves Carla and takes her back to his palace. He feels drawn to her as he would a mate, but thinks that is impossible with her being a different species, and so tries his best to keep his distance. Of course, the attraction between them is just explosive and he cannot stay away from her for long.
This was a fabulous read, I loved Taborr and how descriptive the author was of him, his skin changing colour along with his eyes, his wonderful horns and other appendiges! He's protective and fierce, caring and loving, loyal to his people and wanting to save his crew, yet he has been alone for a long time and is a little broken in that respect. He is frightened to claim his mate with her being a different species, but knows without a doubt that she is his.
Carla loves to try and fix broken things, so Taborr called to her, but in more ways that one, this alien was like a ridiculously hot Viking, eyes emotions playing through his eye colourings. She found it very hard to stay away from him, there are some hot smoking scenes with these two, but she couldn't understand why he wouldn't claim her, thinking herself as just a plaything until he found his own people.
The first book in a new series so there is plenty of world building going, which was great and very detailed. A brilliant read which kept me hooked from the start and kept those pages turning. Can't wait to read more of this.
I want to start my review by saying I LOVE anything written by Hattie Jacks. I’ve been obsessed with the Rogue Alien Warriors series for quite some time, and I think I’ll be obsessed with this new Warriors of the Citadel series, too.
Plot? ✅ A bit of world building? ✅ Mates? ✅ Very, very unique 🍆? ✅✅✅
Carla, our human FMC, was a feisty little thing. She didn’t cower at the fact she was kidnapped by aliens, and boy oh boy did she give her captors a run for their money. Taborr. Yummy, yummy Taborr. The moment he said “mine”, I was hooked. Taborr, our alien MMC, was a grump, feeling guilty over the state of his planet. Kaeh-Leks, the alien planet of the Remek, Taborr’s kind, was taken by another alien race, one that has no problem with violence and continuing to destroy the planet of Kaeh-Leks.
It was easy to get sucked into this world, one of insane technology, different colors of land, barbaric, yet not barbaric, fighting, and reuniting of old friends. The dynamic between Taborr and Carla was so addicting to read, their lust for one another was palatable, and made me smile constantly. I’m jealous of Carla, but also love how she complimented, and calmed, Taborr. I’m truly excited to know there’s a second in the series coming out in May, and I’m so ready to read it.
Difficult to rate.. First half has a bit too much smexy times, considering they are so safe and predictable. There was a potential for some fun, humorous, silliness that was sadly missed.
The second half moved too quickly in places, needing more detail to make it plausible, and had too many repeated conversations and declarations, particularly in ridiculous moments.
Despite all of this, I absolutely loved it! Loved the Alpha-Cinnamon Roll, possessive, protective, hero. Really liked the FMC, though would have preferred some more interaction on her part (not action hero silly, just a desire to have more control and determination for herself).
The world being created is highly entertaining, David vs Goliath, but with all the hope and underdog hoorah you could want. The romance was sweet, with a believable connection between the two (somewhat insta, could have been built up more slowly…). A good intro to other characters, and the beginnings of what could be a found family (needs more developing and page space). While the villain was obvious, it wasn’t cheesy. No great villain speeches, or hero behaving stupidly in order to exact revenge.
All in all, very excited to check out B2. Reviews say it’s even better than B1.
Let me start by saying that I am not a fan of insta-love. I love the tension between the spice, the push and pull of it. It's kind of why fated mates often times doesn't hit right for me. So let that knowledge color how you read my review.
What I do love, though, is that Hattie Jacks sorted out the translation situation pre-story. It gets rid of one of the things that made me uncomfortable with IPB (sorry for referencing another blue alien series), which is the lack of informed consent bc the MCs couldn't actually understand each other.
There were times the pacing felt a bit rushed, and I was confused about the world building. Taborr's indecision, in contradiction to the pace of the plot, felt slow and really dragged things to a halt. It felt silly, considering how obviously into Carla he was.
I would like to mention that the smut was good. It was plentiful and enjoyable when it happened. Plus, we love an MMC with weird appendages and a love of using his mouth.
I'll keep it bread and just say that while this book had some things I enjoyed, overall it just wasn't for me. I'm very grateful to have received this ARC, though! And I'm sure that some insta-love alien smut lovers out there will enjoy it immensely.
The start seemed slow for me, or I could have just had an off day, but it builds up to something you don't want to stop reading. The characters and world building are amazing, and the storyline is fantastic. I really enjoyed how the chapters would switch from how one character was experiencing things to the next chapter being the other character experiencing that same moment.
Carla is a delight, really, and I love her strong, sassy, feisty personality. It meshes well with Taborr's angry, lonely, sweet personality. They both needed someone, needed to be lifted out of the darkness that loneliness is, and they find that light within each other. I really appreciate that Taborr, despite being a he-man alien that wants to protect Carla, still let's her go on missions with him. I honestly thought he'd prefer to lock her in his room while he was gone!
It's the start of a really good series, I think, and I can't wait for Savage Pet to be released.
I really enjoyed reading the story. I liked the storyline, action packed, steamy romance with a slow burn to it. I loved Carla. She is strong yet compassionate. She has lived her life helping others. She seems to not give up no matter the situation. Whether it's trying to escape her captors or learning about a new race of aliens. Quick thinking with just the right amount of wit. I love her description of Taborr, the MCH. Her Viking. The description is accurate. Lots of surprises and secrets revealed in a timely manner. Taborr calls Carla "his stolen dawn". He would do anything for her. I loved how he slowly realizes what she means to him. The backstory is interesting. I can't wait to see what happens next. This is a standalone story for the couple with a delicious HEA. It had humor, romance, plenty of action, and unforeseen events. I was given this book as an ARC (advance reader copy) via Bookfunnel with no obligation to my honest review.
I loved the world that this was set in. The world building was great and it just sucked you into the tale before you even realised. Carla was fantastic. She had a strength and determination to do good and not let anything take that away, no matter how hard or dangerous it was for her. She had an integrity that was completely admirable. For his part Taborr holds himself to his own kind of honour code. He would do all he can until he has located all of his fellow warriors. His loyalty and care for them and his people is paramount to him. That is until the reaslisation dawns that he might have a mate and she is not of his own species, which he had never expected. The growth of their emotional relationship is somewhat slower than that of their physical one but you do get to see how they balance one another and each provide a haven to the other. Wonderful and I cannot wait to read more!
This series starter is excellent and very exciting! Taborr and Carla are the main characters. Taborr is a Remek and Carla is a human. The Liderc are a species who invaded Taborr’s planet and took control. Carla is their prisoner. Taborr meets her when she is the prize in a sphere tournament, and Taborr is there to try to gain information about his captured crew. Taborr saves and rescues Carla, only to realize she is his mate. These two had sparks igniting immediately, and their attraction is beyond denying and very spicy. All the characters were interesting and multifaceted. As series starters go, there was a lot of world building and backstory to explain, but it was easy to follow and made me want to know more! I cannot wait for Vardas’ story next, and I really want to know more about Taborr’s two brothers, Ilyos and Baronn!
This was such a great book. Taborr and Carla were perfect for each other. Thr plot was well thought out, the banter was epic, the characters were intriguing and the action was top notch. Spice, Steam, and sassy replies were scattered through out. it was lovely to see Taborr be both the massive viking alien whose confidence and swagger are bold and loud but also having the moments where he's unsure, hesitant or dealing with things beyond his depth. Carla tries to be strong although there are times when things can be too much and she breaks like every person would, but she always picks herself up, and goes back to being the fiery woman she is. As in the tropes of abduction, fated mates, and a 30 + human woman who faces down alien monsters with the usual British humor and i spent the entire time giggling.
What a fantastic start to a new series. I was held captive from page one to the very last page, I couldn’t put it down. There was action and drama all the way through and of course a fated mate that was unexpected. Taborr is a Remek Prince of his citadel who has lost his men to an invading enemy, the Liderc. He rescues Carla, a human captive and discovers she is his ekko (fated mate). Carla is captured off the Citadel by a traitor Remek scientist and taken to the Liderc station that is rotating the planet Kaeh-Leks, but Taborr manages to rescue her and destroy the station. There is a happily ever after for these two.
I was given a copy of this book to read and I am reviewing with my honest and fair opinion.
These two. I shook my head many times over Carla and Taborr.
Taborr: big lonely bone head who knows Carla is his soul mate and still resists like an idiot even though their relationship moves forward. But he will not claim her until tragedy strikes. Him being alone was so heartbreaking and tragic. He put on a brave front it seemed but really just wanted his people and company back.
Carla: finds strength within herself and love for the big stubborn idiot. She truly ends up caring and loving him. Going as far as to help him with his goals. She turns out to be pretty badass. I loved how her character was developed throughout the book.
I loved this book!!! I loved the world building and the set up for future books within the world.
Carla knows her time is over after escaping and being caught one time too many. used as sacrifice for a bunch of feral aliens who fight over the spoils of war, her, to do with as they please. dodging alien left and right, not very succesfully...., there is one in particular wh doesn't attack her, bur tries to keep her safe. even better, they escape together. taborr is at first reluctant but he can't help but to keep the itty bitty female alien safe. once escaped and back on his citadel he has a hard time accepting that Carla means something to him, that she possibly could be his mate. both struggling with their feelings, there is so much more happening in this story. loved it very much!
Yet another new author that I have fallen in love with! Hattie Jacks takes the typical sci-fi romances and gives them a little fun twist so it has all the traditional tropes I love, but with something different in the world or plot. The interesting twist here for me was that his spaceship was basically a floating castle! So cool, and really felt like it bridged the two kinds of sci-fi romance, of the primitive/historical with the scientifically advanced side. The plot was fun, and characters great. And while I don't tend to read on in sci-fi romance series as I prefer standalones, I think this lined up so well to develop the other characters and give them their own awesome stories too. Really recommend. Plus the sex was fun - as per!
When I came across this book I thought to give it a go. And damn was it the best thing I’d done all week. If you love action packed, decent world building, kinky Alien se$ and an actual good storyline then I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
Having read a number of other alien romances they often lack a decent story line. Not this one though. This author should be so proud of what she’s written I honestly loved this. And if you are on the fence about whether you should read it or not. READ IT!
Can’t wait to see the rest of the series come to life. Hats off to the author please keep it coming.
4.75 stars Taborr is a fierce warrior and adorable mate. When he finds Carla, Taborr is a Lord without his subjects or as he calls them his crew. He is riddled with guilt over their capture and determined to find them. He has lived alone on a huge ship, lonely. Carla eases his loneliness and awakens his passion. Carla is a smart and determined young woman. She is brave and doesn't fear this huge alien, when they first meet. With him she feels safe and cared for. Together they work to find his crew and fight the invading enemy. This was a great read. The one thing I would want is to know more of Carol's back story. I look forward to reading Vardas' story.
3 1/2 stars. The pacing was good and the characters likeable. Typical plot for its fare. My biggest problem was with all the contradictions. In the middle, Carla turns insecure, which is contradictory to how she's been thus far. It didn't add to the plot, story, or her growth and felt inauthentic. Also, she's been all about helping him get his planet back, then she was like, when were you going to tell me about your plans to get your planet back, then guess what, getting the planet back. Book was full of repetitive affirmations to build the relationship rather than experiences, discoveries, and emotion. Still, it had good bones and moved along nicely.
Savage Prize is book 1 in the Warriors of the Citadel series and what an incredible start. I got a little taste of Taborr in a novella from Hattie Jacks called Wild which is from the Elite Rogue Warriors series and Taborr had piqued my interest there. Wow, he does NOT disappoint!
Taborr is a lonely Remek Lord who has lost everyone and everything yet keeps on fighting for his species and planet. Carla is an abducted human who has fire in her belly, a strong will and a growing attraction to Taborr even after he won her as a prize in battle.
Savage Prize has lots of action, excitement, suspense and hunky, hulking Remek with intense glowing eyes and horns, big, strong, strapping horns! And… other fun things you will just have to read about for yourself!
I recommend the Warriors of the Citadel series and it absolutely can be read as a standalone but I also recommend the Rogue Alien Warrior series and then the Elite Rogue Alien Warrior series. They all take place in the same galaxy? Space? Universe? And, I find it fun to occasionally read a little reference to species that cross over from series to series.
This book was so good I couldn’t put it down! There are a group of aliens called the Liderc that feed on emotions and they find out they cannot feed off of the female human main character Carla. They end up throwing her into a gladiator ring in which she meets Taborr who is a Remek lord. He ends up wanting her on first sight off the story goes as he saves her and takes her away. It is such a sweet story between them, they learn to build trust and love. The male main character also is such a hard person but is soft when it comes to her which is always a favorite of mine.
