Gwen's Ghosts #2

Dead and Gone

Rate this book
A brand new paranormal women’s fiction ghost mystery series from JR Rain and HP Mallory, authors of the Haven Hollow and Trailer Park Vampire Series!

After waking up with a could-be killer in my bed, I’m understandably panicked.

And that panic only increases when I realize Bastian realizes there’s something off about me.

I need to get this guy out of my house (and probably my life) pronto!

Yet it doesn’t seem things are going to be quite so easy.

And while what few clues there are point to Bastian, I can’t help but feel like he’s innocent—or is that just wishful thinking on my part since I sort of like him?

Whatever my reasons, I’m now determined to find Victoria’s killer—whether that killer is Bastian or not.

But what I’m not planning on is finding myself breaking and entering, hiding from the police, and the worst shock of all?

Meeting Leo’s wife…

I’m a huge fan of anything paranormal and I always have been. I get super excited whenever they have those Twilight Zone Marathon days and anything ghost or vampire related will always attract my attention.

My interests are varied but aside from writing, I’m most excited about traveling. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to live in England and Scotland, both places really having a profound effect on my books.

Thanks for checking out my books and I hope you enjoy them! Happy Haunting!

Awesome

Whoa this book was like clue. A real who done it type read. Took me back to my childhood of Agatha Christie novels and Murder She Wrote. I'm secretly hoping I get to see a glimpse of Gwen's books she's writing before the series ends. I am absolutely enjoying this series so far.

Book 2 of a novella trilogy and it does not disappoint!! Gwen has decided to use her mystery writer status to check out the rumor mill in town, see if she can find anything more on Victoria. All it really leads her to is hot water, which is just the way I like my books!
Can’t wait to finish the ending and see how Victoria really died

3.5stars-DEAD AND GONE is the second instalment in the contemporary, adult, GWEN’S GHOSTS cozy, paranormal, ghost mystery novella serial co-authored by HP Mallory and JR Rain focusing on forty-two year old, American author/novelist Gwendolyn ‘Gwen’ Dance, and her ghostly friend and assistant Petra Shearwater. DEAD AND GONE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one DANCE WITH THE DEAD.

SOME BACKGROUND: Since the age of eight, during a family visit to the UK, American novelist and author Gwendolyn ‘Gwen’ Dance has had the ability to see and speak to ghosts, including Petra Shearwater , a ghost who would become Gwen’s lifelong companion. Now forty-two years old, Gwen returns to England where she first met Petra, and she and Petra would take up residence in the cottage of another recently deceased.

Told from first person perspective (Gwen) DEAD AND GONE picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one DANCE WITH THE DEAD where Gwen begins to suspect Victoria, the woman whose house where she now lives was murdered, as the ghost refuses to move on from the past. The ghost of Victoria continues to relive the moment of her death but Gwen is unable to communicate to discover what’s wrong. From Gwen’s one night stand Bastian Chambon, to the local blacksmith Leo, our heroine speculates on the possibilities of who may be guilty of murdering Victoria but with very little proof, Gwen’s investigation quickly stirs up the local gossips. Under the guise of researching her next novel, Gwen sets upon a series of interviews in the small village of Morley -On -Avon, in an effort to ferret out who may be responsible.

DEAD AND GONE follows Petra and Gwen’s desperate search for answers and clues, and much of the story line focuses on the gossip, the stories, the secrets and lies.. pages and lists of presumptions and conjecture, hearsay and slander takes up a good portion of the current time lines, and sadly felt more like filler and unnecessary information to the overall story.

DEAD AND GONE is a story of secrets and lies, murder and mystery, suspense and conjecture, accusations and mistrust. The fast paced premise is intriguing; the characters are numerous and charismatic. DEAD AND GONE ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

Gwen and Petra are back and funnier then ever. After waking up with Bastion Gwen starts to panic with a would be killer in her house even if he is drop dead gorgeous. Things go from bad to worse when Gwen realizes that Bastion thinks that there is something off about Gwen . As the clues keep adding up to Bastion being the killer things just don't add up to him being the killer. Gwen is even more determined to find the killer even if it means breaking and entering , hiding from the police and the ultimate sacrifice meeting Leo's wife.
Gwen and Petra are back and they are funnier then ever . Gwen is trying to find Victoria's killer and she is getting feisty and hard working . She wants put Victoria's murder behind her . I love how strong and feisty she is but there is a side to her that all she wants is love and a good man to love. Petra is well she is a ghost but man she is hilarious. She keeps Gwen in line most of the time . She is like jimney cricket on her shoulder most of the time . We also get to meet Bastion and he is well he is a playboy but there something about him that you can't help but fall for but there is an air about him that you just can't trust yet . These characters are so well written and complex and you will love them
In the second book of the series starts right where book one left off . The authors have created such a fun story line and they really come off the page at you . There is so much going on in book two. The things Petra does and says had me in stitches all the way through the book. I truly enjoyed this book and loved the character development through out the book. This can't be read as a stand alone I would really suggest you read book one first and then dive into this fun fast read . I think you all would love this series so check it out

Enjoyable, light-hearted read.

These are fun novellas. I really enjoyed this book. It’s the second in a new PWF novella series. It has a wonderfully spooky aspect and a female MC who is a mystery novelist turned amateur investigator with a best friend who is a centuries-old ghost.

Gwen and her ghostly side-kick are still investigating the mysterious death of the previous owner of her cottage. Things are getting serious and they might just have got themselves in a little bit over their heads.

The writing is wonderfully easy to read and this book is perfect for an evening in. I love the characters, I want to see how they will develop. I love the setting of a small English village with the gossip and tall tales that accompany village life. I love the ghostly sidekick. It’s a very enjoyable and light-hearted read. I’m keen to see where it goes.

The reading order so far:

Book 1, Dance with the Dead
Book 2, Dead and Gone

Dead and Gone is heart-stopping and full of twists and turns. The mystery is unique and the authors are developing it well. I was engaged from the very beginning. Gwen finds herself possibly in bed with a killer. She takes it upon herself to use her status as a mystery writer to insert herself into the town's gossip mill. Gwen wants to find out as much as she can about Victoria in hopes it will help reveal who may have wanted her dead.

I enjoyed every single thing about this story. The setting is simple yet perfect for the story being told. The characters are three-dimensional, interesting, and written well. I'm excited to see where these extraordinary authors take us in the next book.

This novella ends on a mild cliffhanger so be prepared.

More Progress on Plotline

Gwen can see and sometimes talk to ghosts. A ghost has been her constant companion since childhood. There is another ghost haunting Gwen's new home, but this woman is nonverbal and Gwen suspects she was murdered. What I liked about this segment so far is that relationships and sleuthing appear more real. Yes, single women in their 40's do have sex with men they are not in love with. Yes, a woman who is not a trained investigator is not going to miraculously come up with just the right questions to ask when she is trying to find out who killed Victoria. I liked Gwen's approach, I thought it was reasonable.

Other than the cliffhanger, this is a very different, yet well written story. I love the ghost "adviser" character and the small town atmosphere in the UK. The plot is easily followed, and the premise is finding out who killed Victoria, the ghost of the prior owner. who keeps tumbling down the stairs. The main character seems to be easily lead by her ghost adviser (Yes, she has two ghosts existing in her cottage). It really is quite funny in most of the book. I definitely recommend this book.

This is the second book in this series. After an amorous evening with the local Casanova, our heroine is awakened by the resident ghost who lead her to a clue. If this evidence is supposed to make her suspect her new friend, it does. The investigations continue and intrigue spreads as this mystery widens. I would have liked a longer book because I am hooked on finding the killer.

These books really need to be read in order, as each builds on the previous storyline. Gwen’s story continues as she finds clues to Victoria’s murder. She has the beginnings of a relationship with Bastian Chambon, who just might be the murderer. The second man she is interested in turns out to be married, and she meets and converses with him and his wife, which is an entertaining twist. I won’t give any spoilers about the remainder of the book, other than to say that they made the book a quick read because I wanted to see how it ended. I really like how these two authors write, and I especially like the way they write dialogue. It never comes across as stilted. I hope these authors write fast because I want to know what happens next!

Wow!

Another great book from this series. If I were writing this (LOL) I would improve it by making them longer, or condense them. It would make it easier and would have more action all in one book. But I will keep on reading because they are that good. Many Thanks to the authors.

I am annoyed with how short these books are - why not consolidate them into a single book? When I'm reading, I want to be transported and with these, I blink, and they're done.

This is the second in the series and it was amazing and unlike some books it picked up right where we left off in book one so we weren't guessing what happened and the story keeps getting better and better.

Well, Gwen had her special evening with Bastian and Victoria’s ghost shows up to show her a clue; now the ghost is very angry~ When Bastian appears not too far behind, Petra comes to save the day~ Gwen will go to the police with the new evidence and start to question the townsfolk about Victoria. This whole book I practically died laughing at the fixes she found herself in…along with Petra and her remarks~ wait until the end…OMG LOL~ All I can say is this is a hilarious new series you will want to read.
