In the dimension where fire meets ice, my mate waits for me.
And if I don’t go to him, I’ll die.

I know I’m lucky to have a mate at all.
Most would rejoice. Most would run to them.
Not me.
I want to stay with my family.
I was trapped in the veil for the majority of my life, fighting to survive.
And I’m supposed to leave them for a man I don’t know?
I’m tired of Fate making the decisions for me.
Yet…
The ache in my chest becomes too much.
The thirst in my throat becomes unbearable.
The need to mate is a call I can no longer ignore.
Even if I’ve never touched or kissed another.
How will I satisfy him?
Finally, I go to my prince only to learn that I have not one, but two mates.
A dragon and an elf.
Not only do they rule separate kingdoms—they are mortal enemies.
Hatred is rooted deep in my dragon’s fire and my elf guards a secret close to his heart that he refuses to tell.
Forgiveness is the only solution.
And the journey to getting it might be what kills us all.

ARC review - received copy from author

I wanted to love this book, I really really did. But I was frustrated with the plot from the prologue. Why would a Prince allow a literal war to break out, his own people to die, for CENTURIES to keep a secret? The mercy killing of his best friend was the primary driver of conflict between the 2 MMCs. One person’s honor shouldn’t be worth the lives of so many.
The spice was awesome. The chemistry between MCs was off the charts and the other conflicts between them was more believable. Rarity was the peacemaker in this dynamic, which made the whole MMF thing work.
Overall, I felt like the book was written with good pacing and character development, but the major plot driver being so hard to believe took away from everything else.

DNF unfortunately

I love this series and have waited a very long time for this book. Unfortunately, I cannot finish reading it due to the extremely violent sex scenes. I'm no stranger to BDSM both in fantasy stories and in real life. The way it is written in this book is absolutely not the way it should ever be introduced to a person, even in fantasy. You do not take a virgin and basically sodomize them and call it love just because it's fated mates. You do not choke someone with no prior discussion or even asking first. The "Dom" character is just an asshole, not a real Dom. Again, with no prior discussion, he brutally assaults and degrades his two mates and this is supposed to be portrayed as some kind of love story? He tells them repeatedly that he doesn't care what they want. He takes whatever he wants from them, however, and his very first sexual interaction is full of demands and commands, again with a virgin who has zero sexual experience. This is standard shitty Dom behavior. There is enough of that in real life without having to read it in a story I'm reading for fun.
Additionally, I cannot care about the 800-year war between the MMCs. I don't care what happens to either of them. Neither was introduced that well. Nyx is an asshole from the beginning. Cailian is alright, altruistic, but I don't know enough about him to care much for him. I was looking forward to reading Rarity's story. But I can't finish this book.

MMF PNR SMUTTY READ! Hands down it brings all kinds of SPICE!!

What to expect:
•MMF
•SPICE OVERLOAD
•MISCOMMUNICATION
•FOUND FAMILY VIBES
•ENEMIES TO LOVERS
•HATE TO LUST TO LOVERS
•HEARTBREAK
•HEA

This book dives into the lives of Rarity the purple-eyed vampire with ice-like abilities, Dovenyx the fire dragon prince, and Cailian the ice elf prince who all seem to have a complicated fated mates bond, to say the very least. If you are looking for a lot of intense fated mates bonding this is the perfect book to grab because this throuple brings heaps of spice throughout this book.

The author did a fabulous job setting up this new world known as Elementalu where the elf prince and dragon king once shared the two sides of their kingdom to bring peace amongst their kind, but one incident that has catastrophic effects divides this once peaceful land leading to a massive war between elves and dragons. Unfortunately for these princes' fate throws them a twist and bonds them together not with just each other but with the mysterious vampire princess also. With hatred leading the way for Nyx and Cailian their mating bond is off to an extremely rocky start but as soon as Rarity comes into the mix she seems to bring peace and harmony to these two volatile princes.

This book has a complicated past that leads to a lot of miscommunication between the two princes but eventually, the truth comes out with a shocking twist that fate has played upon this group. So be ready to dive into a lust filled fated mates storyline that has heaps of spiciness throughout the story with a HEA. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves a good smutty fated mates romance.

(WARNING READ THIS IN LIKE A  SARACASTIC TONE, bc I wrote this laughing at the ridiculous of everything)
First of all I feel like I wasted my time with some parts of the book because the plot wasn't potting at all. I have some critiques about this story.
PLOT: 4/ 10
SPICE: 10/10

1. First why would Calian let a war pursue for a 800 years because Nyx's father told him to kill him. I felt like Calian could have been told Nyx's what his father ask him to do because his mate died. It would have avoid so much stuff.

2.  Rarity felt like a side character. Because this story felt so rush, there was no real connection or build up between her and Nyx. Like in their first encounter it is him being angry and yelling at her to get away from Calian because he didn't know she was his other mate and then on their next encounter its him suddenly out of no where having these profound feelings for her and having a threessome with her and Calian ( like woah whatever happened to hello, how are you)🤭

2.b)  Like it supposed to be MMF but it felt like Calian and Nyx were the only ones that true partners that matter in that relationship. Their point of views where the only point of view I really cared about because they were the most interesting part about this book she was not needed at all. And her elven ice powers was useless. I felt like this story could be written without her being in it and that's no shade to Rarity because in the other book's she was a good character. I just feel like the author wasted her potential in this story and now she doesn't even have the elven ice powers anymore and they were barely even used in the story. Plus she didn't even use it at the end of the battle, so what was the point of her having powers. And we still don't know why she even had the powers, the witch at the end just said well the other witch should have told you, you wouldn't have the powers for long, like what?

3.  Another criticism is that there was really no standing on business between Calian and Nyx. Like they both claim to hate each other and wanted to stay away from each other but in the next second they are literally bumping uglys. And you would think it would be hate/angry sex but no it wasn't. It SHOULD HAVE been hate sex but it was not hate sex, it was them saying "oh my God, my Dove or I love you, my treasure. Like if you wanted the characters to coonodle during the period of which they hated each other that's fine but, it should have been hate sex coonodling between them until they resolved their feelings.

4.  Another criticism is the fact they all ignored the trolls, knowing how much a danger they are to their kingdoms, which again is sooo stupid. Especially when Calian knew that Nyx's father mate was killed by trolls which started this hold mess

5.  The ending was not good. Well is wasn't bad, just predictable. Like why would you throw a ball, in the mix of yall trying to protect yalls Kingdoms from trolls?  Which let's get one thing straight was not a priority to these 3 AT ALL because all they worry about was f****ing each other. And it was gonna be predictable what was going to happen at ball...the trolls were going to attack at the party because you invited all the species in one space. So when that scene happened it was not surprising, Especially when they said before the party they couldn't locate the trolls.

5.b)  And so we all knew at least one of them was gonna be killed or harm because it was AGAIN so predictable and my high guess was it was going to be Calian because Nyx still haven't proved that he loves him so that was predictable as well. And oh another predictable/rushed scene was the witch that had been missing for months coming out of nowhere to save Calian, but they all had sacrifice something to save him (Oh wow how original)😒. And when she said that Calian was gonna have to sacrifice his ability to have kids that is when Nyx's father's ghost comes out of nowhere in the mix and basically says "there no way my best friend is not going have kids, so im sacrifice my energy and while im at it, let me tell my son I ask his beloved to kill me, ok now all is great, i get to be with my beloved again in the afterlife," was my last straw. And I was absolutely truly flabbergasted and disgusted because you waited 800 years of battles, deaths and destruction only to make yourself known to save the fertility of his ex best friend🥴, what....the....actual....fuck🤨.  And it was the fact that nothing bought his ghost there he just willingly showed up and said Hey I'm a save my friend's fertility but you couldn't have made yourself known 800 years ago and told your son that you ask his beloved to kill you bc of mate dying. I swear to God peoples priorities in this book It's just hell.

5c.  And my last critique:  Everyone deserves to go to hell because everyone pissed me the f*ck off. Especially Calian he really needs to go to hell because how you let a whole a*s war for go on for 800 years because you didn't want to open your c*ck sucking mouth about why you actually killed this man's father? Now I get why Nyx pursued this war, Calian killed his father and he wasnt just gonna let that go, my mans was standing on business I get it.  What I don't get is Calian b*tch a*s letting his people die, this man let innocent people on both his sides die all because he didn't wanna open his c*cksucking mouth to uphold his honor of a promise to not tell anyone what really happened. Baby that promise was null and void when a war broke out because of it. It was not that big of deal for him to keep that promise. Even the father as a ghost was like I did not think a 800 year war would happen because of that. If I was him I would have slap the sh*t out of Calian.

Finally, I don't know what this book was but this book is not like the other books. This book felt like it was written by a different author. Now the other books had me on my toes and they were so good.  This book was just full of disappointments and was just way too rushed for me. It felt like that the author didn't have a plot and so she made the most mundane thing a plot and just added a whole bunch of sex scenes which really just pissed me off because It just made me hate Calian and well not really hate but like oh my God all he had to do was open his freaking mouth and tell the truth

How far would you go to keep a secret? Can love overcome 800 years of hate? Are you strong enough to heal two broken hearts?

These were just some of the questions Rarity, Cailian, and Nyx faced in the 5th book of the Eternally Series. Picking up from Eternally Cursed, we are reunited with Rarity and Cailian and are introduced to Nyx. Nyx is the current prince of the dragons in Elementalu. Unbeknownst to Rarity, she now has two mates, and Cailian and Nyx hate each other! Due to an 800-year war, these enemies must find a way to become mates and unite their kingdoms with Rarity.

The continued world-building is wonderful in this book. Can I book a vacation at Elementalu? And the spice in this book? SCORCHING!! Who knew we needed a dominant dragon to add to our fictional boyfriends list?

I devoured this book and still wanted more! These characters, either collectively or by themselves, had to deal with some real issues to get to their HEA. January Rayne made them work for it and I loved their journey.

Oh.My.Gods....... this book was amazing, and sooooooo 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵 I am so incredibly sad that I finished it!! I want more!! I need more!!! Eternally Lost can't come soon enough!
January is an incredibly talented author. Rarity, Cailian & Nyx are amazing. Absolutely fell in love with their entire relationship. If you haven't read this series, you must asap. You can read Rare on its own. However, it'll make a lot more sense if you read the series from the start. It's totally worth it. Thank you, Mrs. Rayne, for yet another phenomenal read!!

Cailian, Nyx, & Rarity: Steamy, HOT MMF Paranormal Romance! 5 Stars!

In ETERNALLY RARE, book five in the Eternally Series by January Rayne, we’re reunited with our friends from Shallow Cove and this time, it’s Rarity’s turn to find her Beloved. But in this "rare" case, she is destined for two mates, making this an MMF Romance.

If you followed the series, you know in the previous book, ETERNALLY CURSED, Rarity met her Beloved, an Elf Prince named Cailian of Elementalu, the mystical land of creatures living on the other side of the portal on the Monreaux estate in Shallow Cove. What Rarity, including the rest of us, did not know is that she has a second mate. A Dragon Prince named Dovenyx (Nyx).

Here’s where it gets interesting… the two Princes despise one another due to a secret known only to Cailian concerning Nyx's deceased father. Despite having a deep connection to a Beloved that hates him, Cailian will not depart with this secret. Putting poor Rarity in the middle of a centuries old feud between two males she adores. The question remains: can she convince these males to love each other as passionately as they despise one another.

ETERNALLY RARE is another grand slam home run out the ballpark for Ms. Rayne. This installment of the series was perfectly written in the same spirit as the previous novels. RARE picked up exactly where CURSED left off, making the transition from Anwyll to Rarity’s story absolutely flawless.

As readers, we've gotten to know Rarity in the previous Eternally novels. We are also familiar with Cailian, who made his first appearance in ETERNALLY CURSED. However, the unknown variable, the introduction of the third in this story... OMG... I. Was. Not. Ready. 🥵🔥🫠

I was NOT ready for Prince Dovenyx (Nyx)…

Nyx OWNED every single scene he was in! I swear I felt his dominance reverberate through my Kindle (Is that why I felt the urge to kneel?). This dragon was a pure beast and he claimed his mates with a ferocity of unhinged desire. I have no other words to describe it.

The raw, scorching, blinding heat that Cailian, Nyx, and Rarity generated on page made even me, a most seasoned smut reader, fan myself and blush uncontrollably! The violent delights these three engaged in throughout RARE conjured wild, primally wicked, images and thoughts in my head on repeat! ::swoon:: After reading this book, those images will forever live, rent free in my headspace.

This book contains very explicit content so, I advise you to check the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book before reading. This book is VERY spicy and may not be appreciated by everyone. However, if you love spice and cannot get enough of it, this book is ripe and at the ready with plenty! ETERNALLY RARE was phenomenal, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I highly recommend anyone this series to anyone who loves continuing books, fantasy romance, and characters that are so lifelike and multi-dimensional, they feel like family.

Once again, well done, January Rayne.

I have been eagerly waiting for this book to release! 800 years ago, Callian had made an impossible choice for his best friend, his friend wanted to die and needed Callian's help. But Callian could never tell anyone what happened, not even his best friend's son, Nyx... who is also Callian's mate. That choice caused an 800 year war between the dragon and elf kingdoms.
Rarity returning from the void after so many years had made her feel like an outcast in her Coven, plus meeting and running from her fated mate was slowly killing her. What she didn't expect when returning to him was that she had a second mate, and they were at war with each other.
I'll let you know now, that in my opinion, this book was not nearly as plot driven as the first 2 in this series. But the spice was off the charts. If you aren't into sword crossing, kn0tting and MPreg, this is not your kind of book. Nyx and Callian are both incredibly stubborn. I understand that Callian felt that he needed to take his secret to the grave, but he also put 2 kingdoms at war because of a decision his best friend pushed on him. Nyx knew in his heart that Callian wasn't a cold blooded killer but couldn't get past his rage enough to see how much his mate struggled. As usual with January's books, I loved the FMC. Rarity was a breath of fresh air. She was scared to leave her family and even more scared that she'd become a 3rd wheel between her mates, but once she was all in she began mending the broken bonds. Unfortunately, I don't think January Rayne could create an MMC that I love more than Alexander, but I did enjoy the 2 in this book. We also find out a bit more about Aziel, and I'm hoping thar his book comes soon.

5/5 🌶️

I have read every book in the Eternally Series but the entirety of this one tugged my heart strings significantly!!

Cailian being asked to do the impossible knowing what the consequences would be honestly about brought me to tears. Watching his emotional struggles with everything after that fateful days all those years ago really made him into the prince he is at the end of the book.

Rarity feeling as if she has no place and is hurting due to turning away her beloved out of fear of what could happen. And finding out something about herself that makes no sense to her. Watching her become the strong and confident princess she is was amazing. AND THE WAY SHE MAKES BOTH MMC’S FOLD🥵🥵🥵🥵

Dovenyx not knowing the truth as to what happened to his father, Cailian’s best friend, and automatically thinking his Firebonded is nothing but a cold blooded unaliver made him extremely cold towards Cailian in the beginning UNTIL Rarity helps breakdown all of the emotional walls that were built in the constant years of fighting.

It’s completely hectic but I loved it!!! From watching them being unsure of their feelings, to only doing what’s necessary because of the mare bond, to watching them fall in love it’s an emotional roller coaster!! That being said, watching these three find not only themselves after traumatic pasts but finding love in each other will have you on the edge of your seat the entire ride!

FINALLY!!! I have been waiting on pins and needles for this book ever since I read the previous book of this serious! And I can honestly tell you that I absolutely, completely, POSITIVELY loved it. Once again this author did not disappoint me! I loved everything about this book. The heartaches, the spice, the love…. did I mention the spice? Every single second of this book kept me 100% captivated and I didn’t want to put the book down!

The book was between Cailian, Nyx and Rarity. I absolutely loved Cailian. He was sweet, compassionate and full of love to share. I loved his dominance and I loved his submission. And Nyx? Holy hotness. He is the whole package! He exudes dominance but isn’t afraid to crawl for his firebonds. And he will do anything to keep them safe. As for Rarity… How could you not love her? She was absolutely breathtaking. She was the perfect blend of sweet and innocent but with a splash of spice and sass. She was also the glue that kept her beloveds together through their ups and downs. They were all made perfectly for each other.

Eternally Rare was beautifully written. It had heartfelt feeling and also heartbreak and humor. And each and every character written had my heart. Okay, one certifiable character did not but I won’t say anything more about that! You’ll have to read this story to find out more! You seriously won’t regret it!

I was so excited for this story, and it did not disappoint. This is an MMF story between a dragon, an elf, and a vampire. All unique in their own ways. It's a rough beginning, though, as the history between Nyx and Cailian is long, and full of hatred. Enemies for centuries. They have to work past what they've known for so long so they can see and understand what fate put in from of them. Then add in Rarity. A truly rare creature. She isn't like the other vampires. She lives up to her namesake. She is also incredibly fierce. She doesn't allow anyone, mates included, to walk all over her. She has power in all things. She's commanding, but also loving. The three of them fit together perfectly, regardless of the history, or situations around them. Rarity is the bridge Nyx and Cailian need to come together and work past their past, and find the love they're meant to share. It's an amazing continuation of this series. Bringing us another world and more characters to love. Fights, drama, revelations, everything you can think of is in this story. The relationship is beautiful and dynamic. We're given little hints to what's to come and I can't wait.

This book is book 5 in the Eternally Rare series and, although it can be read as a stand alone, it is much more enjoyable if you read the series because you have so much more backstory on some of the main characters.

Our FMC is Rarity and we first met her in Shallow Cove as she was Alexander’s long lost sister. I loved having a glimpse at the characters I originally fell in love with in this series. This time it’s Rarity’s turn to step out and live her life. She actually ends up in the “rare” position of having two fated mates and unfortunately for her, her mates are sworn enemies. The event that caused the feud happened 800 years prior and was traumatic for both sides. This book was definitely a tale of redemption, revenge, intrigue, suspense, and was also surprisingly filled with heart warming moments. I can’t wait to see what comes next with this series!

What a book! I've thoroughly enjoyed this series so far and the books keep getting better! I loved this one!

Nyx has hated Cailian for hundreds of years and after finding out they are Fated Mates he has a hard time accepting it, what he doesn't know is that they have another mate, Rarity, who will help pull everyone together.

I really loved the relationship between the three of them. I actually enjoyed Nyx and Cailian's moments together before Rarity came back to Elementalu. I felt it helped them create a bond before Rarity. Once Rarity was added though it became intense, in the best way possible!

I highly recommend reading this series in order but they could be read as standalones, you would feel like your missing bits of the story though and you would 100% be missing out as it's such a good series! If you don't like spicy books, this definitely ISN'T for you.

This was my favourite instalment of the Shallow Cove dimensions by a landslide. I LOVED the vampire, elf and dragon trio. It was one of the sexiest books I’ve read and the storyline was really engaging. The dynamics between Rarity, Nyx & Cailian is intense and I was so into it. Nyx’s internal dialogue was so tortured while Cailian was so accepting of his mates and what was going to be was going to be. Nyx’s personality 100% stole the show and is for sure one of the most memorable characters in this series for me. I can’t WAIT to see what’s next and get to experience the growth of these characters and series!

January has done it again! It took her a year but what a book this was! I loved it a lot! I enjoyed the dynamics between Nyx, Cailan (i’m sure i misspelled his name) and Rarity!

Truthfully i would have wanted more of the book, especially the main villain and battle part, but i loved how the book was focused on their mating throuple and how the relationship between all of them was progressing.

All the characters had a backstory, and i loved how everyone was developing throughout the book. And that spice and dirty talk woven into it!!! I was a puddle! And it was absolutely amazing how everyone was a switch (except Nyx, the only time he submitted to Rarity was epic!)

Rarity is a special vampire. She stuck between her family and fated mates...yes I said mates. Caiilian prince of the ice elves deals with a secret and nyx is a stubborn dragon that deals with the past that keeps him angry. Feeling out of sorts rarity weighs her feelings of the unknown and the comfort of her family. Taking the risk she goes to her beloveds. She tries to keep the three together but will caiilian secret destroy their fate or will nyx hatred and anger get the best of him?? Spicy 🥵🥵🥵🥵 scenes will have you wanting more...could the fates be more wrong than to mate a vampire, elven ice prince and a dragon together??

When one smut scene last multiple chapters you know it’s gonna be good. I loved seeing them step into their roles so easily despite the obvious internal issues. They made the most of it and it was refreshing that there wasn’t an over abundance of denial and push/pull because that can get annoying after so long. The illustrations in each chapter look really cool. I’m in love with this story. It’s so sweet and loving and accepting. If you’re in need of a light fantasy romance, read this. ❤️

I really enjoyed this book. It was a lot of fun to read. Tons of spice. I mean, TONS! The trio in this book were so good together. This has got to be the worst written plot I have ever read in my life. It honestly felt like the author no longer cared much for the series and just slapped a nonsensical storyline to produce this awful show, whatever she could muster and pull out of thin air just to finish it. I'm baffled at the lazy and lack of amount of work that was thrown into this.

ARC READ REVIEW - I was given a free ARC read for exchange for a review.

stars: 4.5/5
characters: 4.5/5
plot: 4.5/5
spice: 4/5

I really loved Eternally Damned and Eternally Cursed, which is one of my favorites. I've been dying to read about Alex's brother, which January confirmed with me will be the next book.

I really did like the beginning of the book and seeing Alex and Maven is always a bonus when it comes to the series, seeing past book couples. I missed Anwyll so much!

Anyway, I love Rarity, I loved her in Eternally Cursed. This book was very much a why choose trope. Having the Dragon Prince and Ice Prince being mates along with Rarity was pretty interesting. I don't think I've ever read anything like that before.

Why I'm giving this book 4 stars is really because some of the spice scenes made me somewhat gag. That's the best way I could put it. There were so many details that I didn't need to know. I thought the book was interesting and good and I did enjoy what it was, but I felt like it kind of lacked in some areas, mostly with the spice.

This book almost didn't have the same vibe as her last two books which I loved. I love this series and I'll be waiting for another book in the series to read. But this was a good read to see past characters coming back and seeing how Rarity fits in this "Mate bond" thing going on with the dragon prince and ice prince.

I think what really made me go "What the fuck moment" was his cock head being shaped like a snowflake. I don't know, it just didn't sound too good and I found it really odd to add that in there.

I still think this was a good read and would read more of her work in the future. Thank you for considering me for this ARC read for this book!

Read this in one seating, I liked it but it felt more like a Love story between the two MMC and the FMC was just added for the spice. I didn’t really feel her connection to Nyx, I felt like she had more in common with Cailian. Overall I enjoyed it can’t wait for the next one.

This was the first book I have read by this author and I absolutely loved it! I really love a good why choose story and the fact that this was also fated mates put it over the top for me. Rarity was such an amazing FMC and both of the MMCs were great in completely different ways, although Nyx was personally my favorite. I am definitely going to go back and read the rest of the books in this series and I am very much looking forward to the next one. Thank you to both January Rayne and Carolina Leon for the ARC of this amazing story.

Another amazing book from January.
The highs and lows are written so good. An easy book to read and desperate to get to the end but sad that it is finished as well.
My favourite author just gets better.

You know... sometimes I feel like I'm not even reading the same book as some of the other reviewers. I had to DNF at around 45% to maintain my sanity. We have a fire dragon, an ice elf and a snowy(?) vampire and all three of them are each other's mates.

description

...well aside from the fact that the elf killed the dragon's dad who also happened to be his BFF. And some 800-year old war because of it, but stuff like that happens.

I was struggling to keep on reading from the first chapter and the never-ending cringy nicknames certainly did not help me with my mission.

"My Snow, my Beloved, my Dove, my Love, my Darling jewel, Little Elf"

Stop. Just stop.

The "Little Elf" is almost as tall as you are, Nyx. Even you admitted it.

“Cailian is tall, but nowhere near as big as I am.”

Not that the dialogue was any better, mind you.

“I didn’t say you could bite me, My Darling Jewel. You’ll do as I say, when I say, and how I say. If I want you to feed from me, you will, if I want you to taste me, you will, if I want that pretty mouth around my cock, you’ll fucking suck it. But only if I tell you to.”

You didn't say anything at all, asshole. Neither the vamp, nor the elf are mindreaders.

“I don’t give a fuck about what you want right now. Do not be a brat. Step away from our firebond so I can lie her on the bed. After that, I will give you instruction on what to do.”

Hey dragon shifter, are you trying to be the D in BDSM? Cause you're just coming across as a simple D.

As in D from Dickhead.

“Didn’t I just say that I didn’t give a fuck about what you wanted?” Nyx pushes my right knee down, then my left.”

description

I really thought this book was going to be a resounding hit. I mean, we have a dragon, a vampire, an elf, knotting and what was promised to be a nice combo of M/M, M/F/M, F/M, F/M/M including everything in-between, and somehow this came out as a hot mess.

“Nyx’s hand slides up Cailian’s beautiful swimmer-esque body.”

His what now?

Lithe. That is the word you're looking for. Lithe. Slender. Svelte. Supple.

Hell, even sylphlike despite the fact that Cailian here is an ice elf and not a sylph - spirit of air for those whose folklore trivia is patchy. All of those would be appropriate when describing an elf.

Instead we get "swimmer-esque" .

description

“Between that and you’re pretty pussy, I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to last.”

"Your". It is "YOUR" , not "you're". Where's the proofreader? At least make the proofreader work for their money. Because the rest? Probably somewhere in this mess. The plot also was... there? And by that I mean that we had the illusion of plot but the plot holes were volcano craters instead of road dents.

“In the afterlife, we’ll be born again, and I’ll be able to find my firebonds because I would be in your DNA, embedded in your existence forever.”

Hold your horses, Don Juan. This is your first horizontal tango and no one is dead or dying. Why are you talking about the afterlife? Are you planning to die during a threesome?

Complete the mating bond already so that we could all move on and stop raving poetically about death and... DNA?

Neither of your species even heard about the human world until Rarity popped up as your mate. Jeans were a new invention for you. Who taught you about DNA, you oversized reptile? What's next? You're gonna mention chromosomes, cell division and hydrogen bonds?

“My heart prepares for death, to experience Nyx for the first time all over again: his intensity, his anger, and his possessiveness.”

description

YOU'RE FUCKING! F-U-C-K-I-N-G. NO ONE IS DYING.

What is wrong with these people?

“I didn’t say you could drink from her. I didn’t say you could indulge in such fine wine. How dare you try and get drunk from her when I haven’t gotten you high yet.”

Do you know anything else, Nyx? Anything other than "I didn't say you could" or "I don't care about"?

- FMC: Rarity (vampire)
- MMC's: Cailian (ice elven prince), Nyx (aka Dovenyx) (dragon shifter prince)
- POVs Included: Multiple POVs (Cailian, Rarity, Dovenyx)

SUMMARY: (SPOILER WARNING)

Rarity (Alexander's sister) met her mate, Cailian (the Ice Elven Prince) by chance...and then ran away. She was scared of leaving her family after being away from them for so long.

Then when she finally goes to see him, she is nearly killed by a dragon (Nyx), who it turns out is also her mate.

It's rare to have a three-way mating. But what makes this mating difficult is the 800-year-old feud that has been going on between Cailian and Nyx. Can they look past their hate and come together as mates with Rarity.

REVIEW:

This is a disappointing review to write, because I was SO excited to see this installment was going to be an MMF ménage. I absolutely LOVE ménage romances, and I've enjoyed this series so much so far that I was really looking forward to this one.

Unfortunately this was my least favorite book in the series so far for several reasons I will get to below.

The first issue I had was that the relationship between the three of them felt very superficial and lacked depth. Nothing between any of them felt genuine to me, it just felt like they were all going through the motions.

And the pet names they have each other only made them feel more fake. Because they were given nicknames too soon and I really despised the nicknames they had for each other -- especially "Dove" for Nyx, which doesn't fit him in the least. Like at all.

Along with that, the dialog, dirty talk, and their mannerisms felt stilted and unnatural. It just didn't flow well and it didn't feel like the same quality of writing that I saw in the first books in the series.

The characters also were either inconsistent, flat, or annoying.

Rarity appears timid and shy at first, and she is in fact a virgin. But during sex she doesn't act anything like a virgin or timid. It didn't feel like the same character to me.

Cailian was too feminine and formal sounding for my liking. In an MMF, I prefer both men to be more dominant and masculine. I also am not a fan of mpreg stories at all. He was a nice guy, but just not my preferred kind of MMC.

Nyx was closer to what I prefer to see in an MMC. His character was also more consistent and less annoying. I still didn't love him, but I liked him more than the other two.

As far as the plot goes, most of it is just them trying to work past their issues with each other. We have a brief encounter with Trolls (who apparently eat dragon hearts) at the end which was interesting, but that entire thing was only a very small part of the story. The main part of the plot involved...miscommunication! Yay!

Cailian killed Nyx's father 800 years ago. Mind you, Nyx's father was Cailian's best friend. And he only killed him because he had lost his mate and was (literally) dying and in a lot of pain. So he begged Cailian to kill him. But he also made him promise not to tell anyone he asked him to do that (why?). So that created a long 800 year war between the two species because of this.

All of that being said, Cailian takes this promise seriously and won't even tell his fated mate the truth so that he won't hate him. I get his loyalty, but I hardly think telling his mate is equivalent to shouting out what happened among the rooftops. He could've said something to Nyx to avoid all the confusion. I really don't think his dead best friend would mind.

Overall, I honestly can't say I liked much about this one. There was virtually no plot, the characters and their relationship felt flat and unauthentic. The sex was cheesy and not very good. I hope the next book in the series is better.

I was able to ARC read this book. I enjoyed the characters and the diverse world that the author was able to create. I did not read the previous books but thankfully that did not seem to be an issue with this book. I however, did not think that this book was truly MMF. Caillan and Nyx were so into each other that it felt like they completely forgot about Rarity being there. This felt more like an MM read than a MMF. We could completely remove her from the story and I'm pretty sure that nothing much would change. I think that's more so what I'm getting at. I think that in these types of stories that there should definitely be a point were none of the mates can be removed from the story and the story would go on without them. That was kind of a big thing for me. However I want to go back and read the other books in this series because I love the characters themselves. Like Rarity seems like a very interesting character. Her family seem to all be interesting. I want to know more about them. The same goes for the others. I want to know more about Nyx and Caillan.

The spice in this book felt meh. There was copious amounts of it and some scenes were hot but overall I don't think it advanced anything. It didn't seem to bring them closer...well it did with Caillan and Nyx but not really for anyone else. So that was a bummer but it was kinda hot at times so I gave the spice a 3. As always, read it for yourself! The characters are good and the story made me want to read the previous books since it's obvious that Caillan and Rarity had met before.

3.5 stars but rounding up!

I’ll admit, I really struggled with this book and story. I didn’t care for the plot line established in the prologue. It just didn’t make sense to me that he would let a war go for so long over a secret like that. I really struggled with Nyx’s character being so hot and cold all the time. It bothered me that Nyx never actually apologized to Cailian for how horribly he treated him, and none of them acknowledged the truth of what actually happened so long ago. Also, I get that Cailian made a promise to his best friend, but I also feel like Nate’s are excluded from secrets like that?

With that being said, once I took a break from the book somewhere around the 50-60% area and then came back to it after about a day, I was able to enjoy it overall. This may be my least favorite of the series, so but I was able to enjoy it in the end.

Despite his faults and horrid attitude, Nyx is extremely possessive and protective of his firebonds, and I loved seeing that. I also very much enjoyed how, ah, creative he could be during the spicy scenes. Cailian was my favorite in this book, despite him keeping an unnecessary secret. Rarity was kind of a background character for the first half of the book, but January warned us of that, and it makes sense that Nyx and Cailian would need to be the priority characters at first.

Overall, an enjoyable book for me. 3.5/5 stars and 4/5 spice.
