The simple act of bringing light to darkness is a moving and meaningful way to create sacred space, celebrate joyous occasions, and find solace in times of loss. Candle rites are also a time-honored way to bestow blessings upon loved ones or focus energy on any wish or intention that you may have.
Warm and wise, By Candlelight is the most complete guidebook to candle rituals available. Within these pages are eighty-seven beautifully crafted rites for a wide variety of common concerns, large and small. From a rite for "evoking the good in others" to "summoning personal willpower," there are rituals for both the public and private spheres of life, along with prayers, blessings, meditations, affirmations, visualizations, and ceremonial actions. Suggestions are included for using color and fragrance, home altars, and other approaches to enhance and personalize your candle rites.
Another book I love for its sheer simplicity in the direction of active prayer and manifestation of intentions. I have a hard time "letting go" of a "thing" in my heart or mind. This book is direct in its instruction and has helped me kinesthetically release thoughts, emotions, intentions, and other ethereal stuff through the simple act of burning of a tea light candle with purpose. I use this book along with Valeria Ann Worwood's Aromatherapy for the Soul together frequently.
Author Janine Renee acknowledges herself as a person with a mental illness. The depth of her spirit in spite of her affliction and written works are awe-inspiring and is one of the reasons I appreciate this book so thoroughly.
Janine's book can be used by anyone in any religious background and is especially good for people like me that have a hard time "letting go."
I have this book in paperback and Kindle format. I gave it 4 stars due to the poor formatting in both print and Kindle.
I thought this was a sweet and thoughtful book full of simple and respectful devotions/rituals for many different scenarios. It's good for the novice who's looking to build on their spiritual practices, and does not try to force any kind of religious or spiritual path on the reader.
