So I keep waiting, and waiting . . .

Ruby Dixon is an author of Science Fiction Romance. She likes fated mates, baby-filled epilogues, and cinnamon roll heroes. She also likes to write biographies of herself in the third person, because it feels more important that way.

Ruby also loves coffee and dirty books and will probably be a cat lady at some point. :)

Like a 2.5 but I'll round up

After Sam's book I was really excited to get to this one, because for so long Daisy has been teased as a sort of frivolous character and I wanted to see the hidden depths to her and give her some character development. Unfortunately this book kind of fell flat - BUT!! it was still highly enjoyable and I'm so happy to be back on Icehome. I feel like Ruby could give me a book of the Not Hoth people just sitting around a fire and I'd devour it.

Because so much time has passed since the beginning of the Icehome series (I think it must be like 4 or 5 years since Lauren's Barbarian, and 12 years since the original Ice Planet Barbarian book), the characters feel a bit disjointed. Like, in earlier books in this series everyone was kind of in the same boat. Hanging with friends, starting resonance, pregnancy. Now you have a few couples who haven't resonated, and others who have pre-teens or adolescents. It just feels a bit different.

I was a little disappointed in the direction Daisy and O'jek went. I've been rooting for them as a couple since the beginning and I really liked the *idea* of O'jek as a grumpy hero - but he really wasn't one, to Daisy. It felt like he always enabled her. He was her friend but he never pushed to know WHY she was the way she was, or to help her see she didn't need to be a "doll"/trophy wife anymore, UNTIL the plot got going.

Daisy, to me, wasn't super likable. And I know, not all heroines need to be likable. And I sympathize with her because she had been a slave for basically 10 years, since she was 16, and had been told everyday she was just there to look pretty. She was lonely and unwanted. But I don't feel like she grew that much in this book. She wound up learning to do basic chores and that's great but... it was for O'jek, not for herself.

Anyway, I was happy to return to Icehome regardless. And I'm STOKED for the next 2 books even though I'm surprised at how the pairings panned out. Please say we'll get them asap Ruby... please.

This book was strange to me--I just felt like a lot of the pieces didn't quite add up. Maybe it is me, or maybe its that after reading 38 books (literally) with different takes on the same premise, things just feel a bit stale. I was pretty interested in this one, as the last book had ended on the cliffhanger of Daisy, our MC here, falling into a fire and sustaining massive burns. This was a pretty big deal for her character--besides the obvious traumatic reasons, Daisy's prior life--in which she was enslaved to a man who displayed her like a trophy--left her believing her only value was in her appearance. I expected this book was really going to dive into that.

I was wrong! The burns play little to no part in this book, besides that people are annoyed that she keeps going to Veronica to have the scars healed??? This is really just a book where everyone is uncharacteristically mean to Daisy bc they believe she doesn't pull her weight around the camp, and she has to learn to do chores if she wants to be loved and respected? This was VERY odd to me, bc so much of the OG series is about how everyone has different skills to contribute and that homemaking and childcare are real and valuable labor. This book seems to conveniently forget about characters like Stacy and Ariana, neither of whom had survivalist skills, but were never treated poorly or with disdain because of it.

I found that O'Jek's oscillating between wanting to be with Daisy/not wanting to be with Daisy was more confusing than anything else. It didn't feel like his motivations for anything were very clear.

If you really like Icehome and IPB, you'll probably enjoy another installment, but lukewarm or new readers can skip this one.

Another good one from Ruby Dixon!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💚💜❤️
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 🤓😉☺️😍
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Daisy - she thinks she looks hideous after the accident (where she fell into a fire to knock a child out of the way). She was burned on the side of her face and head. She cut all her hair off when it happened, and it is growing back now. The healer has been working on her ever since and her scars are getting much better. Daisy is from the planet Praxi and and gave up her life there for a chance at meeting a true mate and having a family.

The Hero: O’jek - he is from the shadow cat clan. He has been in love with Daisy since the moment she arrived on this world. Though he thinks she is meant for a leader or someone special within the clan. He thinks he is not worthy of a mate. Though he loves to dream that one day she will be his.

The Story: O’jek takes care of Daisy. Her entire world has changed since she was taken and since the accident. She had been a beard and a trophy wife on Praxi, only valued for her beauty. Her husband had a male mate that he loved, and she was relegated to third position while her husband and his mate showed their love for each other. All she wants is for someone to love her, but she feels she is ugly. She doesn’t realize how much O’jek loves her, but she does rely on him, and she does see that he has a crush on her. Though she is afraid if she gives in, he might resonate to Flor, the only other single woman and then she would be worse off.

I do really like this series and the Ice Planet Barbarian’s, though I think that Ruby Dixon writes too many heroines as whiners that feel sorry for themselves, and Daisy is no different. They do always turn around and become strong women as the stories go, but I just wish she would write more heroine’s that make the best of their situation from the beginning.

The audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Felicty Munroe and Sean Crisden, who have done most of this series. They do a terrific job every time and this audiobook was no different.

I remember how O'Jek was a massive turd to his own brother, the poor Outcast Juth, in book 14. And I thought: wow, you're going to be a real piece of work, huh?

And he is. He really is.

IBP has its ups and downs for me. Books I love, books I hate. And the small pool of characters that I really despise.

M'Tok, the entitled bully. Hannah, the awful auteur. And now O'Jek, the Wreck.

Daisy got a lot of grief and hate from everyone on the beach for being a lazy beauty queen on a planet where survival takes hard labor from everyone. Unfortunately, she was groomed to become a self-conscious, fussy princess by her former husband and owner, Johani, who bought/married Daisy when she was still a child (gah!!). For a decade, she was his little trophy pomeranian. Displayed for guests, she had to look good and keep sweet, even while she slept in the same bed as her Master/Husband and his true (forbidden) male lover. All the love for Daisy, she deserved better!

Back to O'Jek, since he's the problem here. O'Jek isn't the best at anything. Except maybe cooking. But men don't cook (tm). Men must hunt for frail woman and beat chest!

Except O'Jek couldn't be content with that now could he.

O'Jek must be hunter and beat chest but also bully Daisy into a survivalist crash course where she MUST learn everything. Despite the fact that many of the ladies on IceHome never hunt, O'Jek knows what is best for Daisy.

So he pushes her far out of her comfort zone to dirty her pristine hands inside and outside the house and also to trek through the icy wilderness as well.

I never finished this book. I guess O'Jek gets what he wanted all along: a life as a pampered househusband who does nothing but cook delicious meals and wait for his wife to come home from her hunt, so he can thump his chest and be admired by her.

In my head canon, a hippo farts into O'Jek's face and Daisy realizes she's too good for him. She takes the next space shuttle to Homeworld and marries two handsome princes.

Bye

4.5 "Prove you love me" Stars!!

Oh man I had been waiting for Daisy's story. I also had been waiting for someone to smack some sense into her ass and tell her to get to work. With that being said, I love how O'jek had been there for Daisy helping her when she didn't even realize it, but I felt like the stance he took when on too long or he wasn't giving Daisy any credit. That's why this wasn't a 5 star for me. I did shed so many tears, but then again I am a sap lol.

I CANNOT wait for the next book to watch the shit hit the fan. Oh man, I had an inkling Ruby was gonna throw a curveball and it looks like she freakin' delivered.

Mr. President, I rise today to say: Enough.

So, so, SO happy that my pairing predictions are coming true!!! This was fun, the decision making, tensions, and discussions were classic Ice Boys without totally frustrating me, the blue planet tribes and their interactions were delightful as always, and the ending sets up a nice tease for the next pairing's story: FLOR AND I'REC YES I WAS RIGHT ABOUT THAT TOO!!

Now for Tia & R'Jaal??? that would be FUN

Daisy’s Decision is one of the last books in the Ice Home series and I jumped into it as soon as the audiobook released. I love Ruby Dixon reads and this series is just so good and fun. I wasn’t sure what I’d think about O’jek and Daisy’s romance but I ended up really enjoying it.

Daisy was a “pretty ornament” whose role was to just be pretty to her husband on another planet. She was taught beauty mattered above everything else and was a bit vain and self-centered with her looks because of that. So she hasn’t been dealing with being badly burnt very well. But she came to the ice planet to find a mate and have kids of her own and is still determined to make that a reality. So after getting tired of seeing everyone else around her resonate over and over, she turns to her friend O’jek and asks if he’ll have a baby with her (they can go to a healer to force a mate bond).

This one was an interesting setup for our ice planet couples. I liked that it was a friends to lovers setup and how much Daisy wanted someone to love her and to have a family with. Her character is frustrating at first with not helping out or doing anything to assist the tribe, but you see that is just her knowledge of nothing different and a mold she was created into. I liked seeing her try to change and how O’jek wanted her to learn to provide and protect herself too. They were sweet together! And the setup for the next book sounds wild, in the best way! 😬👀

It's Planet Blue Balls time. Yay!

Look, this is a long-running alien soap opera, and I have enjoyed myself thoroughly. This features Daisy and O'jek, friends-to-lovers with two virgins and two folx who have spent a lot of time not being wanted. Daisy had an accident in an earlier book that left her burned and for a woman whose worth has been tied to her beauty, it was devastating for her. I liked exploring exactly how much her previous "owner" (humans are enslaved or dealing with PTSD from slavery throughout these books) manipulated her and treated her like a little toy he trotted out for appearances. O'jek has never been anyone's first choice, but he has been in love with Daisy since the moment he saw her, he just didn't acknowledge it. Both do boneheaded moves, and both need to grow up some, but I loved their journey to their HEA. And let me say that I loved that this explored their relationship pre-resonance.

The teaser for the future messiness is fun AF and exactly what I want in my alien soapy goodness. I definitely recommend it, and the series in general. Ruby Dixon has content warnings in all (or almost all? I can't remember) her books, so I definitely recommend reading those first, but as long as you're down for some alien peen and survivalist romance, you may like it as much as I do.

another entry in icehome and another banger added to ruby dixon’s ouvre because i rly enjoyed this book especially daisy. i’ve been rly fascinated by her character from the minute she arrived to our little ice planet and getting inside her head was so fun for me and i ate up all her perspectives and was very much on her side in almost any conflict in this book. that doesn’t mean i didn’t like o’jek, i rly did, he just irritated me a bit with his inconsistency on being with daisy even though i kind of understood where it came from. though i wish both characters had explored their trauma a bit deeper with one another, i still really appreciated their character growth both individually and together!

on a side note… FLOR AND IREC?!!!!! i was thinking ruby might shake up some stuff in the end but i wasn’t sure if she would dare pair these two but i’m already kinda obsessed with just the little bit of banter we got in this book and i think the angst of these next two books is about to be top tier and im so unbelievably ready!!!

Horrible the worst one yet!
Daisy was a desperate doormat
O’jek was a douche…. I have never ever read a Ruby Dixon book where he rejects the h AFTER they fuck! And he continues to USE her physically after while refusing to mate with her. So he never chooses her. I mean till resonance. Time and again he walks away from her and treats her like GARBAGE!

Duel Virgins can’t save this for me! What a fucking shame.
Ruby Dixon… I read your books cause of how amazing and dedicated the men are and that they are virgins. This was crap. 💩

Also Daisy does everything she can to make herself better and he NEVER ONCE notices all she accomplished. He is a selfish prick

I'm still in a reading slump but I will always have time for my Blue Aliens :) Even though Daisy is one of those characters I do not enjoy interacting with, I missed the adventures of the Ice Home Planet and devoured the book in one go. I feel like there are only two more stories to tell and... I am going to miss that universe.
PS. Is it time to re-read both series?

If I had to describe this book in one word, it would be: frustrating. I have to admit that I had my problems with Daisy before I even started ‘Daisy’s Decision’, because of the way she acts around the camp without really providing anything for the tribe.

In the beginning of the book, it was the same old thing with her, but it got better. All she was ever taught before was how to be a pretty, silent trophy wife and she didn’t quite get the memo that the life she knew was over and that she had to start again. Everyone around camp was giving her a hard time when she started trying to get more involved and it was harsh, but I personally think it was fair. They were frustrated with how she acted and even when someone tried to tell her to get more involved, she didn’t listen, so she now has to endure their comments.

O’Jek was also very frustrating, which also was part of his upbringing, but his hot and cold behavior towards Daisy without really explaining anything to her got boring really fast.

In the end, there is a teaser to the next book and I know there will be lots of Drama. I really liked what we saw from Flor’s and I’rec’s relationship and I’m excited to see how they act around each other now that they resonated. I’m not looking forward to read more about Tia, though, she could have stayed at Croaton Camp for all I cared.

3.5 stars - I was so surprised by how much I loved Daisy! I was so moved by learning more about how she sees herself re:her value being tied only to her beauty. The parts of this story that were about her were 4 stars. However, I felt like with O'jek, the grovel did not match the crime. I wanted more time for him to reflect, grow, and be truly sorry. I don't know, it may just be that I come to Icehome for himbos who are rarely if ever alphaholes, and he just went too far into that territory for my tastes.

That said, it was great to be back on Not Hoth, I cried for Daisy, so all around - a good time! I'm PUMPED to see how the mess Flor is in by the end of the book plays out in the next one ;)

I’ve been on the Ice Planet ride for a few years now and it’s not very often NEVER happened that I somehow entirely missed a new book being released. It’s so exciting to have an extra book to read right after this one but I gotta admit I was a little off kilter with Daisy. I had to dig deep into my memory and with a few hints from RD I was able to piece together more of Daisy’s background and where she came from. She’s the newest member of the tribe having (if memory serves) arrived with a cargo load a few books ago. While Daisy does not see it as horrible, she was essentially a human pet/slave and fake partner on another planet. While she was never physically abused, all her choices were taken away and the mental abuse still clearly lingers. Daisy wants a family and it’s literally what she’s always wanted for herself. After being on the planet for a couple years now and not resonating, time is taking its toll on Daisy especially after being alone so long and quite literally being on the sidelines of her owners romantic relationship. What I don’t remember is Daisy falling into the fire as now she’s dealing with the obvious physical and mental scars from the accident. Luckily Daisy has O’jek from Shadow clan wrapped around her finger. I’m pretty sure he’s been in love with her since she arrived. The two are fairly close already so transitioning their relationship isn’t hard. However both are stubborn and still dealing with past trauma. It doesn’t help they start off for the wrong reason but given time things have a way of working out! Another sweet read.

Daisy and O’jek’s story! Ah, Daisy. Ever since she showed up completely unexpected from Niri’s delivery, she has been longing for resonance because that would mean instant mate and getting pregnant. She had longed for it with years while she was a “pet” of her “husband” alien, but it was in name only as they never did anything together. So… this ice planet with hunky big blue aliens seemed perfect. But resonance didn’t happen for her for over 3 years and then she fell into a fire. She prized her beauty and didn’t contribute much to the tribe, so now being scarred really set her back and made her depression spiral even further.

We saw Daisy and O’jek’s affection for one another as a side story a few times, but they never got past friendship. However, he was so kind and patient with her through her tragedy that of course their khui’s would finally take notice and wake up… but there was quite a journey to get there.

As always, this is a fun, cozy, romantic read. On to the next!

O'jek y Daisy

Daisy’s Decision is book fifteen in the Icehome series by Ruby Dixon. This series needs to be read in order.

Daisy has been the frivolous character since the moment she was droped off on Not-Hoth. She’s absorbed in her looks and doesn’t contribute; except to babysit the kids. I really didn't care for her, but now I get to see her thoughts.

Daisy is still a bit naive when the story starts, but I she does grow and learn. It’s a start. Oh my sweet sweet O’Jaks. He’s so sweet, but he does hurt Daisy with his rejection. Both do silly things and both needed to grow up some, but in the end they get their stuff together and have their HEA.

The story is told in both Daisy and O’jaks POV’s. I like that about Dixon’s Sci-Fi Romance novels.

Daisy Decision was another enjoyable read. Icehome is like a long-running alien soap opera. The series continues to be enjoyable and I like returning to the Icehome world.

Daisy hasn't been a favorite character of mine, didn't really care for how she didn't want to do anything since she arrived, even as I felt sorry for the life she fled. I did feel bad that she didn't find what she was looking for at Icehome, but thought she had a good idea when she talked about things with O'jek. They both liked each other, why not. I also thought O'jek brought up a good point and it made sense to me.

Their first forays into sex was so bad and awkward it was awful. It was good that they talked to others to get some advice. I also hated how some in the tribe shit all over their idea of being mates and seeing if Veronica could help them.

Of course things went back, both Daisy and O'jek were at fault. They both really needed to communicate better. Things did end great for these two, in the best way possible and everyone is excited for them.

Least favorite, here's why:

I was so excited for the 'hawtie with a body has had naughie, is now gettin' soughtie' --but all I got was 'whiny with the cryie, has life and boytoy she ignored nightly.'
Does it bug anyone else that she has been on this beach for three years and hasn't learned anything? You're telling me for three years it never 'clicked' that she was using her fabulousness as an excuse to not get dirty and no one said anything? Nah. After reading the love stories of all of these straight-forward and capable women, I was really let down by all the other characters of Icehome because none of them come through in Daisy's development. They let her wallow in her weird for waaayyy, waaayyyy too long. I mean, after the hum of her previous life, attending and getting ready and presenting, etc. You're telling me for three years she sat at a campfire and watched kids? That's it? Nahh. She'd get bored, she'd want a hobby or two, she'd find something. So to me, the Daisy I was so hyped for--fell sooooo flat.

Three years is a lot of time to exist in a survivalist camp and not contribute more than childcare to a rotational routine.
I don't buy it, and the breakdown of how much of the plot hinges on this one fact is so adamant that I cannot get past it. So not. Not great. It doesn't really add to the series in any novel way for me, and that's a bummer--because Daisy was the new blood! *cries dramatically* She was supposed to be the chosen onnneeee!

Anywho.
Obv. you're going to read it. This isn't truly a spoiler, because it's explained in like, chapter one, and then repetitively alluded to throughout. So whatevah'.

Still gonna' read Flor's, because she's a dark horse man.

The way I'm still reading these books even though I can barely remember any of the preceding plots. lol Point is, it's a lot of the same.

This book in particular was frustrating. On the one hand Daisy has a traumatic past that explains some of her issues and I felt sympathetic towards her plight. On the other hand, how does someone spend years on an ice plant and learn to do nothing?? The idea is that everyone has skills and can add value in different ways. Daisy didn't NEED to skin animals or hunt to be valuable, but she needed to do SOMETHING. But that's the fault of the writing. It made her appear lazy, when there were creative ways of making her an integral part of the group without having to make her conform to the typical laborious tasks that some of the other women participate in.

Then we have our hero and his indecision. Like dude, make up your damn mind and figure out what the fuck you want.

Anyway, another installment that was pretty forgettable imo.
