Halfway There is a collection of poems that centers on how pain carries lessons that can lead to self-growth and acceptance. Throughout this book, Yariana Torres opens her heart to inspire and uplifts us as she explores and shares her feelings. This powerful book discusses hope, healing vulnerability, transformational relationships, and self-awareness. Halfway there is about discovering the real you and embracing it unapologetically, with all your flaws and weaknesses.
I'm giving these 5 stars because the Author was 16 when she wrote this. She is so gifted, and I am excited to see where her career takes her. I was lucky to see her in person for an event at the United Palace and the poem El Cafe brought tears to my eyes cause way I could relate was crazy. These poems are very much about coming of age, learning about yourself and being Dominican American. This is a book I'll hand to my daughter because every girl deserves to feel seen and relatable. I felt honored to read some of her poems because they felt so private. I know writing your thoughts down on paper as a teen can be so scary, even more so PUBLISHING!
Some of my favs: La llama Verguenza: What it is and Why it doesn't bother me El Cafe Ciclo de Sacrificio Forgiveness and What it Entails Things to avoid after the fact Ode to my Mother Oxymoron
Outstanding journey of words that takes the reader to another reality with the use of metaphor and symbolism. Torres also uses both English and Spanish to convey meanings of love, pain, and self discovery.
