Visle: Blood and Venom

Rate this book
Welcome to Visle- Vampire Isle. It's a haven for the supernatural, a nightmare for the humans who stumble upon their sanctuary.

The island is a place of eternal night where the only thing darker than the sky is the creatures that live here. Here, nothing is off limits except for questioning the vampires' authority.

On Visle, everyone is accepted... except me. I'm painfully plain, a witch with no magic. That's why my family sells me to the highest bidder on my eighteenth birthday. I always knew that was coming. But I never expected to be sold to the vampires. And I definitely never could have guessed why they want me.

A quick and catchy read if you're in need of a fast-burn why-choose vampire romance.

What to expect:
∘ New Adult Dark Vampire Romance
∘ Reverse Harem ― size: small (3)
∘ Multiple POV
∘ Short chapters
∘ Insta-lust
∘ Witches, shifters, vampires
Trigger Warnings: blood (a lot), non-con/dub-con, graphic violence and gore, ideations of suicide, human trafficking

While this was not so bad, the book could have used some more plot development, in my opinion. Apart from that, the worldbuilding was enjoyable to read about, but the complete disregard for human lives was something I didn't quite understand...
One other aspect that didn't quite win me over was the characters, all of them, but the FMC in particular.

As it is, it was just an okay read, but the potential for better was there. If only it had focused more on the plot than on the erotica elements, I might have enjoyed it more and even continued the series. However, since that is not the case, I'll stop here.

1.5🌶️

Okay so.. I really enjoyed this book. The plot was intriguing and very fast paced. I had to knock it down a few points however for some character development (or lack of).

-First off, the male main characters are much more flushed out than the FMC. This doesn’t bother me, but she is clearly the central point of the story yet her character seems the most flat. The men in this story however are much more layered and you can see their distinct personalities. I found myself loving the MMCs chapters more than the FMC. It isn’t that she is unlikable or anything, she just doesn’t seem as dynamic as the others - she seems to exist only to drive the plot. They also make several references to how much she had “changed” in the matter of like.. 3 days, but her POV didn’t give us much dept to her character to begin with.. so I guess we had to take their word for it.

-The plot itself is very interesting. It is very fast paced from the beginning making this book a page turner. The premise behind the main story is given in pieces throughout the plot which completely adds to the intrigue.

-The connections between the characters does seem purely physical rather than emotional. I did not mind this at all, just something to note.

-I did love the dual POV and the short chapters. It made the book seem to fly by.

-Overall I did really enjoy this book, particularly the last 40%. I am hoping the next book is a bit longer and goes more in-depth into the characters, especially the FMC.

Epub edition read on the Kindle. I finally got it working :)

Received from Booksirens. Nope, I wasn't paid for this. Yep, full honesty.
I'm out.
Picked because I read Their hallowed queen part one and wanted to see what else was on offer. A choice I almost regretted right off the bat. Evelyn is just turning 18 with scum family all around and being sold to vampires. One in particular, Roman.

Roman who. He annoyed me. His whole ulterior motive secrecy, his presence and his will not share lines. I would've been perfectly happy with the happy/grumpy twin sandwich. The newly minted eighteen virgin thing was creepy.

The plot went sideways towards the end with a cliffhanger ending. Initially at the wolf's appearance, I thought it was another Twilight. I don't know what's going on and I don't really want to know. I'm done with this one. It felt like a vampire story that could've been wrapped up only for the story to have the rug pulled out from underneath it.

3.75 stars ⭐️ for Blood and Venom by Carly Claire. It is the first book in a series called Visle (Vampire Island).

Character Development ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Grammar/Punctuation/Word Choice ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Spicy ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I give an overall 3.75 ⭐️’s after averaging the ratings together.

Character development needs to be a little more developed than it is because I do not feel connected to any of the characters by the end of the book. This is usually the factor which decides if I read the next book in a series.

I most likely will read book two because I have a lot of questions. The plot is good. As a reader, I am left with too many questions. I understand some things left in the unknown in a series, especially the first book. This book leaves me with so many questions but I am rating the plot at a 4 because all of my questions can easily be answered in book two of the series.

Grammar/Punctuation/Word Choice has a rating of five stars. This speaks for itself. I find only 3-4 errors in the whole book.

Spice is not just rating how many sexual acts are in the book but also sexual tension and chemistry between characters. There is no sexual tension and the chemistry between the characters is awkward at best.

At this point I say whether or not I recommend the book. I really won’t be able to say until I read book two.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I actually liked this story. It’s set on an island ran by the supernatural, which really have no regard for the human lives living there, and bid on humans for ownership. The multi-POV plot is intriguing and fast paced, becoming more complex towards the end. It seems like the main storyline is introduced slowly throughout the book, mainly focusing on Evie and what she is going through, but there are definitely bigger things at play that have yet to be introduced. There was just the right amount of spice in the story, which I liked and with Evie living such a sheltered life before being sold to the vampires, it was interested to witness some first experiences through her eyes. One thing I wasn’t totally fond of is that her character was a bit plain and didn’t have as much depth as some of the others, which struck me as a bit strange since she seems to be the focal point of the plot. All in all, it was a quick read and I might just start reading the rest on Amazon Vella while waiting for book 2 because I want to know what happens after that cliffhanger!

Promising Start

The problem with serialized stories is when it's put in book form and it feels as if pertinent information is missing. This was a different take on the paranormal. Evelyn was born a powerless witch to a family who loathes her. Her life takes a drastic change on her 18th birthday when she is sold to a well known vampire clan where she catches the attention of Kai and his twin brother Bray.

Evelyn was purchased by Roman for a purpose which remains to be seen because he refuse to tell anyone about his ulterior motive. His brothers and the other vampires only know to leave his guest alone.

This was a quick read that leaves you with more questions than answers. It's revealed why Roman purchased Evelyn but it didn't reveal why the witch he made a deal with betrayed him. Or why a werewolf arrives to collect Evelyn at the end. Or why she was believed to be one thing but the Cliffhanger reveals something different.

This story had potential and a decent plot. It starts as an enemies to lovers tale that slowly transforms into a Reverse Harem story.

“ Welcome to Visle- Vampire Isle. It's a haven for the supernatural.”

Meet Evelyn a witch with no power, sold by her own family to the vampires as soon as she hit 18! It’s a wonderfully dark read , well written and intriguing and this definitely grabs your attention and holds it tight. There’s plenty of spice, super hot vamps, secrets, betrayal , witches, werewolves and vampires and I cannot wait to read more!

I love the premise of the story, the world-building and the writing.

I was excited when I saw 50+ chapters but then saw that this book is comprised of episodes that are on Kindle Vella. Reading it, I felt intrigued but frustrated as the story was somehow fast paced and yet slow too. I am not personally an episode for episode kind of reader, so essentially that put me off.

I absolutely recommend it be read on Vella for those that love the episode for episode installments and gradual unfolding of the story.

The story has promise and will probably have amazing twists and turns to come, as already seen in the first 50+ chapters!

I received a copy through Booksirens and willingly leave this honest review.

I absolutely love this cover, that is as you know, what drew me to this book. Did I know what it was about, nope. There will come a time I read a description in full, but now is not that time in my life.

Now that is out of the way, let's start from the top. Can I just say I wish that more books started with a content advisory. Not just for sexy time books, but for the crazy amount of potential triggers out there. I read that and knew that there was something special here, starting off with a smile.

It has also been quite sometime since I've read a serial series. Reading the opening of this was when I discovered that this was a novelization of the first part of the author's serial series on Kindle Vella. Why am I mentioning the serial series part? I think knowing that ahead of time helped me approach this book in a different mind set. You often have short chapters and cut out a lot of that extra fluff and excess world building. So you have a story that is straight to the point. If you're used to reading a fully flushed out story, this might not be your cup of tea, but if you want a quick, fun, and to the point read then serials are great.

There was a warning for gore, but there wasn't a whole lot of violence at this point, some… yes, but not a whole lot and not described in a way that is off putting. Just mostly biting, you know the vampire business. There is a lot of sex and a lot of… promise of teasing. Thinking about it the sex wasn't all that graphic either. More graphic than some, again yes, but it was most definitely not super graphic.

I think the writing is pretty good, the story got more intriguing at the end (of course) but I just didn't really feel a great connection with the characters. Would I read more, yes. I think that's the biggest downfall with the serials, you have to hook the reader in these short segments to keep them coming back. It would be nice to see this same series a little more flushed out like a traditional novel.

End of the day if you like some spicy, paranormal, sex with everyone type of book then give it a go. It's a short, quick, and fairly fun read.

Believe the warnings at the beginning of the book before the story starts. I was ok with most of it, but the vampires killing of the plain old humans was a bit much for me to stomach. It upset me, especially since there are a finite amount of humans on the Isle for the vampires to feed on. You would think that they would treat the humans a little better because of it but no.

Evie is the youngest child of a family of magic users. But as she doesn’t have any, and she hit the age of 18, the rule of the vampire mayor is that she gets bought by vampire, werewolf, etc. She gets bought by Roman, one of the vampires in the Mayor’s Coven. Now I admit that Roman, Kaiden and Braiden (Kai and Bray) are all hot. What I didn’t like was that the twins Kai & Bray were already waiting for her in her room and bad things happened. I don’t like that the humans are pretty much juice boxes of blood like a caprisun blood bag and can be used to sate their lust. That was a little overwhelming for me to deal with right away in the book. I did like that Roman yelled at the terror twins. Carol is the Mayor’s assistant and she is scary for a human!

I have a love/hate thing for all three vampires. The Mayor I just hate. I hate Evie’s family too. I can understand the rules of the Island of Visle. But they are brutal. The main Rule for the vampires is Don’t feed on other vampires. All three vampires are drawn to Evie’s purity of spirit and spunk. She isn’t afraid to die. But, all the best laid plans of Roman go down the drain. The Alpha of the werewolves shows up at the end of the book to take Evie from the vampires. I didn’t expect the ending and I want to know what happens next. Even tho part of me is still screaming at me about the things I didn’t like about the book.

Overall rating 3.75🌟

So this book follows out fmc Evie, who lives on an island that is inhabited by many supernatural creatures, with vampires being the ones mainly in charge. Now Evie is a witch without powers, so she is not liked by her family. So because of this she is sold to a vampire Roman, for reasons that are yet to be revealed. Roman is a dark, brooding vampire who buys Evie, but he has his reasons! Evie also meets two vampire brothers, kai and bray, Kai being the kindest of the two. So we follow evie as she tries to come to terms with how her life has changed.

Firstly, I did enjoy this book, the storyline and the world building was good enough that I felt drawn into the story. It's quite fast paced, straight to the point, so it's a nice quick easy read. There were a couple of errors in the headers, but they didn't affect my enjoyment. The characters were done well enough that I enjoyed reading about them, I liked Kai the most! However I do also feel like Evie could have been a bit more developed, she kind of went from one extreme to the other, I would have liked to have seen more of her personality come out. Roman's character was done well and I look forward to finding out what he is up to. Kai was my personal favourite and I feel we got to know more about him than Evie!
So as I said it was a quick read, which I didn't mind at all, but I do kind of feel even though it was fast, apart from a lot of sex scenes and Evie being with Kai, bray and Roman, nothing much happened until near the very end, so personally I would have liked a bit more.

This book did include trigger warning at the start, which I thought was good as throughout the book, there were things that happened, which some may not like!

Overall I enjoyed the book and it ended on a good cliffhanger and one I need answers for!

A daughter who has been ignored and mistreated by her entire family gets sold to the most powerful family on the island.

Starting the book, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but I wasn't entirely disappointed. The love interests being the twins, Kai and Bray, and Evie's new owner, Ro, honestly had me thinking that something would end up happening to the twins, figuring that Bray wouldn't be able to control himself, it would lead to a fight with Ro, or someone else, and that Kai would end up being killed because of it. I was also a bit surprised by how Alec, being painted as this big bad vampire who hates humans, didn't really seem relevant too much to the plot. I also suspected that there was something with Evie, as she was able to seemingly disregard pain and not be terrified in a house full of vampires, both obeying and defying orders.

Things that I wish that the book had were longer chapters: it felt like some chapters could have been combined to be one longer chapter. I also would have loved to see more conflict involving Alec, or even more of a backstory of him and his experience with humans and the founding of the island, as well as something more involving Evie's family; we know she is the only daughter out of 7 children, who 2 of her brothers are, and that she was mistreated and neglected, but what if there was a reason for it?

If you like romance, vampires, and more than one love interest, I highly recommend giving this book a read.

The premise of this book is set on a secluded island filled with supernatural beings. The FMC is a human from a prestigious magical family and shows no talent. Because of this she is sold into service and bought by a vampire. She is scared and confused and doesn't understand his motive behind it. She has a rough introduction in the household. But starts to develop a relationship with two other MMCs.

Then things keep happening without much explanation or understanding. And it ends on a significant cliff hanger.

I really wanted to enjoy this book. And overall, I did enjoy the plot line and even started to enjoy the characters. However, it felt rushed. Like she hated these people and was terrified of them. Then she has an accident and wakes up wanting to be with all of them.

I felt like a lot of important information was missing and I couldn't really relate to what was happening because of that.

I did like the premise the relationships started on and if they had been developed a little more in depth I think they could have been great and drawn the reader into them. I could say the same thing for character development. It just felt that it was lacking the depth I needed to really connect with the characters.

Overall, I would say it is an enjoyable plot line and I am interested in the rest of the story. But it won't be making it to the top of my TBR.

I really liked the story, the way it was written, the dialogue was well done, the book drops you into the action at the very start and keeps you turning the pages until the end. There's no drag at the start while the author gives you a bunch of background information which could have waited. This book started life as a serialized novel and the one thing I disliked is the author never fleshed the chapters out a bit before packaging and selling it as the first book in a series, so the chapters are brief and to the point. Having said that, the story is compelling and adds several fresh ideas to the vampire genre I truly enjoyed. It wasn't the best paranormal fantasy I've ever read, but I liked it quite a bit and will be reading the next book in the series. It was well worth my time. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I can happily say I'm glad I took the time. It does have dark themes and romance, so sensitive readers might want to move past this one and it's definitely geared to the 18+ crowd. If that's you and your interested in the blurb and reviews, this is a solid first effort for this author.

ARC Review:

Omg love a good Supernatural romance book.

Definitely say this is a good start to anyone getting into spicy romance books as it is not too heavy and won't be too much for a beginner in my opinion.

This book follows Evelyn who is sold to the highest bidder in the vampire Isle. Where she realises she was sold for more than just her blood…

Also the cover is so pretty  and that was main reason I decided to read the book also I'm huge fan of a vampire/supernatural romance

The reason I only gave it a four stars is I felt like Evelyn had such a big change and felt it was lacking in the development of her character which was such a shame as I loved reading it so much and that felt like pace of the book was just a little to fast and sometimes it felt like I missed something.

But overall I would so recommend to someone who is new to the genre and is a fan of vampire romance.

Tropes

Vampire romance

Reverse Harem

Dark Romance

I love vampires, so I was interested in this story immediately upon reading the summary. The plot was interesting, though it fell a little flat for me in parts. I felt like the characters could have used a little more description. There were some spelling errors and a chapter that was mislabeled with who’s POV it was.

I liked the twins a lot, Kai was my favorite character of the bunch and I felt like his personality was the most fleshed out.

I DID appreciate that the characters didn’t immediately jump each others bones and I was pleasantly surprised with how long it took to get to an actual sex scene between some of the characters, as it allowed some tension to build first. The couple of sex scenes in the book were pretty 🌶️ to me.

*Spoilers* I’m personally not into werewolves, and the end of the book was definitely hinting at Evie and her werewolf-kidnapper entering a relationship of some sort in the next book, so I will probably not be reading it. Also, I felt like there were too many unanswered questions still.

Thank you to the publishers for an advance copy. This review is entirely my personal opinions on the book.

I genuinely enjoyed the story! I loved the pacing and how everything picked up fairly quickly. The ending was a bit on the chaotic side and made it a little hard to keep up with everything. Which was honestly reflective of how Evie felt during the last half of the book.

The multiple perspectives helped fill in gaps that were left by the quick pacing if left single perspective. Just enough questions would be answered to have me understand a situation, while the perfect amount of questions would pop up to keep me reading.

I adored Kai and found myself eager for his next interaction. He was the only of the guys that I knew for a fact how I felt about. The other two were written so wonderfully to be bounced back and forth between like and dislike.

Overall this was a really good read and I’m looking forward to the next installment already! Only thing that may have made it better was lengthening out the first half a bit to include more of the torment from the guys.

The premise of this book and the way the author jumped right into the plot intrigued me from the first page. I flew through it and found it easy to keep up with. The FMC seems like a badass, I spent most of the book wishing the author would share more about her personality.

I enjoyed that the story didn't require much world building, and was easy to jump into. However, a little more worldbuilding might have added the context I feel was really needed to understand the ending.

Overall, I recommend for anyone looking for a fast-paced and quick paranormal romance with intriguing plot. If you're a reader who prefers a more character-driven storyline, you may feel, like me, that there was something missing, but I have a feeling there's room for much more character growth coming next for them.

My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

General Thoughts:This exceeded my expectations. It checked all the boxes for me:
✅ Intriguing, well-developed characters
✅Interesting world
✅ Well-executed writing
✅ Exciting plot full of action

I went into this one with zero expectations. I knew it was originally released on Kindle Vella, but that was all. I read this in its completed form, however. I'd recommend it.

As I indicated above, the action was non-stop. The author originally released this to be in a Kindle Vella format, which means the chapters are short, and are designed to keep you wanting to read more. In that, she succeeded. This was the first Kindle Vella I've read (though I read it all at once.)

Mind the cliff with the ending. Also, check out the triggers. I thought, based on the triggers, it would be more intense than it was (or at least has been so far.) But do check them out to ensure this is right for you.

Memorable Quotes

-"Don't start something you can't finish, Ev."

-I’ve spent my entire life being controlled, and as much as I thought I didn’t want that anymore, I’m desperate for him to continue whatever this is.

-My body couldn’t stay still if I tried; It’s too busy responding to [him] like I’m a puppet whose strings he is pulling on.

-I’m not done with him, and I sit up to tell him as much when I realize someone is standing in the doorway. “Don’t stop on my account.”

-After being treated as a nobody for my entire life, I feel powerful, a goddess among monsters. My body is the temple these two are worshiping, and it brings me a fiery need for more.

-“Death doesn’t excuse you from the bond of proprietorship, Evelyn. I still own you.”

Steam Meter:🔥🔥🔥. Pretty steamy. And I have a feeling it will only get more steamy as time goes on.

Romantic Tropes
-menage, polyamorous, reverse harem
-paranormal romance

Blood and Venom is the first book in a series called Visle (aka Vampire Island), and there was a lot more that I liked than didn’t. So it will still be a recommended read from me.
I really liked the pace of the book, it’s fast, with short chapters which makes it feel like it’s very quick to read. You are not waiting long before the action starts and the tension starts to build between our main characters.
The clue is in the title, there’s a lot of blood in this story, along with a lot of spice, not all of which is consensual, so if this is a trigger for you, then you might want to have a good think before reading.
I however, enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

Grossly No. Delete, Delete ,Delete

Look I like dark as much as anyone but this is not dark it's Gross. And come on, Vampires na!ed Bray and Kai...Wow, ugh No. Victim, Victim, she's Just turned 18 WOW I'd hate to think what the writer wouldve written if not for the laws against minors...hated by her family, beaten and sold to vampires. Walks in the door and there's an immediate assault and attempted rape scene by the above surfer dudes, Kai and Bray. She's torn up badly and just barely rescued by another vamp, Roman...seen that name way to many times in stories😮 So skip a few chapters and the surfers and she are now friendly... After they assaulted her and discussed killing her during the assault. This is not a story for anyone except a hard core masochist.

“This was such a page turner, the story was strong from chapter 1 the twists and turns and amazing plot twist this story went in a completely different direction than what I thought it would go in. This book is mild fantasy spice so it was a rather casual read. Carly Claire did it again another amazing read. I was rooting for Kai and Evelyn, their relationship grew and changed i enjoyed scenes where it was them. The story has so many different layers and a wide range of characters which made it easier when each chapter was based of another character’s perspective and what was happening to them. Make sure to read the trigger warnings incase theirs anything that may trigger such as blood and sex. This was left on a cliff hanger so I cannot wait to read the next chapter.”

Okay I love so many things that are in this book but it doesn’t translate to my hate for this book. This was like a mid fanfic on A03. I love multiple perspectives but this was done so poorly. 53 chapters but soooo little happened. Because they would replay whole conversation from the other character, it was needlessly redundant. AND chapter 47 says it’s from Evie’s POV as the title but it’s a completely different character - that’s a big edit miss. And to end on 4 different plot line cliffhangers, one per character at least, no. Hard pass on reading anything more. The whole story happens in like 1.5 days but so much of nothing happens.

I was expecting this one to be more dark romance than it was. Not to say it wasn't dark, but it was more horror dark. There's a lot of violence. There's also a lot of mystery and I have a lot of questions.

I loved Evie. She's only known abuse and it's given her a different outlook on life. She expects to be abused, even killed, so not showing fear is almost second nature to her. This made her a really interesting character. My thoughts are still out on Ro because I don't have all the answers. I'm ok with that since I love a good antihero, but I can't pint my feelings down yet. The story ends with a serious plot twist that I didn't see coming, and I'm excited to jump into the next one.

I love Visle! What a great setting for this new series. I am definitely hooked. I do wish the chapters were longer; they were so short that it actually hindered the flow of the story. I did love the retelling of certain events from 2 different points of view, it really helps to know the mind space of all the participants. My only other criticism was that there wasn't a lot of actual story in this book. We got to know the characters well, but there was very little forward movement on the mystery. I'm hoping the next book will give us more information. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I enjoyed this book and want to read more.
The spice is good and the plot is interesting, fast paced and one point had me shook!
The world- building was good and the descriptions of the environment vivid.
The only thing lacking for me was the connection between the characters, this all happened too quickly for me and I would have liked more of a mental connection. Maybe I’m too romantic for such smut.
This story could develop and develop and it’s worth a read if you love paranormal smut.

I enjoyed Book 1 of this series! The spice/smut is great and the plot interesting pulling you in quickly and keeping you engaged. This was a fast paced read for me with shocking spots! The descriptions were vivid so you felt emerged in the world. It's an incredible paranormal romance. Set on an island called the Visle where paranormal people live in darkness thanks to the witches who enchanted it. Evelyn's family are all witches, yet she had no powers. She is sold to a vampire who doesn't want much to do with her other than try and earn his freedom from the island they are on. Expect there to be a cliffhanger as this is book 1 of a series coming!

This book is my first read from this wonderful writer and it is beautifully written.
It is a gripping plot and I was second-guessing the outcome which elevated my experience as a reader.

Evie, Roman, Bray, and Kai were the main characters of this story and they were strong and amazing.
This book is a page-turner and an easy read and I recommend it to everyone in to this genre.

I cannot wait to keep reading this series and find out what's coming next.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

--i received this book free in exchange for my honest opinion--

This book was interesting to say the least, I walked into it expecting a fun vampire romance, however I found myself being kept guessing at every page, I literally couldn't put it down. There were a lot of key parts in the story that were kept away from the reader, deliberately to keep you on your toes, and it worked fantasticly, I finished this book in a little more than an hour and a half which is crazy. I overall enjoyed the story.

Evelyn has been ignored all of her life by her family. She doesn't fit in. Not with her brothers and not with her family of witches. Evelyn lives in a world where you must make a contribution to society, but she has no skills. So when she turns 18, her family sells her to the highest bidder.

This story has many different layers, each one brings you into Evelyn's life. There are so many different emotions that she goes through in this novel. They draw you in and you don't want to let go. A must read for sure! I am excited to see how this story continues.
