Headhunter Blues: A Señor Bueno Travel Adventure

Rate this book
After a close brush with certain death, Mike and Lily needed a stress-free break.

An all-expenses paid vacation to the exotic island of Borneo sounded almost too good to be true.

And, of course, it was. There were a couple of catches. Lily’s venture capitalist mom required in-depth research on a shady Malaysian head of state and his ambitious plan for a massive hydroelectric project. As for Lily’s dad, he required a new smuggling route.

So it was off to Borneo for fun and adventure. But when the due diligence reveals environmental destruction and human rights violations on a massive scale, their vacation takes a dangerous turn.

Hoping to save Borneo’s orangutans, rainforest, and indigenous tribes from corrupt politicians and greedy developers, they team up with a tour guide, an alcoholic bush pilot, and a fierce tribe of headhunters.

When the tribe’s DMT-infused shaman proclaims Mike to be their Great White God, the unlikeliest hero ever born is tasked with taking on a corrupt Chief Minister, his murderous Head of Security, and an army of mercenaries. . .or die trying. To Mike, a dedicated pacifist, that last part seemed likely.

If you like zany adventures, romantic comedy, exotic locations, quirky characters, and hilarious dialogue, you will love Headhunter Blues !

Headhunter Blues - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

'Philanthropist' Mike's self-appointed mission to raise world consciousness through pot, hits several hilarious - or not so funny at times - potholes, in his attempts to develop his and girlfriend Lily's Paradise Island resort, the pakalolo production venture at Ganjaville and finally in the jungles of Sarawak, in Headhunter Blues.

Now buckle up for a wild, bucking-bronco-like ride with your friend and mine, Mike B. Good aka Senor Bueno, the luscious Lily, the terrifying Mrs Chen, the idiotically-obsessed Gerardo et al, by getting #14 in his A Senor Bueno Travel Adventure series, the guaranteed unputdownable Headhunter Blues, as soon as you can - and tell all your book-lover friends to grab a copy too!

Headhunter Blues

This was the best book yet in the Señor Bueño series! Mike and Lily go to SE Asia to visit Mrs Chen. While there Mrs Chen wants Mike to go to Malaysia to check out a dam project she’s considering investing in with Mr Song. Or course Mike gets in to trouble with a henchman and becomes a Great White God to a tribe of headhunters!
I loved seeing a softer side of Mrs Chen. The orangutan part was touching the way it reacted to Mike and then to have the tribe take in an orphaned orangutan and name him Schott aka Mike was really touching. Mike makes a huge impact on the tribe , saving a rainforest and setting up an orangutan sanctuary. I really loved this book. I can’t say enough great things about it. It had a ton of adventure, action, drama, political corruption, fantastic characters and a large amount of humor. I can hardly wait for the next book in the series! I highly recommend this book and this series! It has it all!

Reluctantly, Señor Bueno Goes Looking For Headhunters

Every new "Señor Bueno" adventure is a must-read for me. They always have beautiful locations, witty dialogue, vivid (and quite colorful) characters, dangerous exploits, political intrigue, historic references, and best of all, they make me laugh my grass off. Author Mike Good never skimps on gritty action in these stories, yet somehow manages to keep the tone upbeat and funny throughout.

The books in this series are a continuing story, but there aren't any major cliffhangers. You can start with Headhunter Blues, which features Señor Bueno's encounter with an actual tribe of headhunters, but I'll guarantee you'll want to go back and read the series from the beginning. I hope there will soon be another new installment!

Thank you to Mike Good for a free advance reader's copy of the book. My review, as always, is written under no obligation to the author or publisher. Headhunter's Blues is an excellent book!

If you’re familiar with Senor Bueno series you know what to expect and you won’t be disappointed. If not, well hang on and get ready for a fun ride.

Those who have read other books in the series aren’t wasting their time reading my review, they’ve already hit BUY and are reading the book. If you haven’t read any of the others don’t worry, you may miss a few “in” jokes but you’ll still find yourself hanging on every word and won’t be able to put it down in till the end.

So whoever you are, quit reading the reviews and buy the book. You can thank me later. And then kill another week by getting the rest of the series and reading them all.

Head Hunter Blues: A Señor Bueno Travel Adventure-Mike B. Good

If you enjoy a good romp around the globe in a hilarious, but beautifully constructed travel adventure, Head Hunter Blues is exactly what the Doctor ordered! From the prospect of an Eco-resort on a secluded atoll in the Pacific, whose waters are rumored to contain a sunken treasure to the magnificent rain forests of Borneo teaming with Head Hunters, Corrupt Officials, and adorable Orangutans. Head Hunter Blues pays off in mystery, intrigue and hard boiled capers by the much beloved Señor Bueno and his lovely lady, Lily. I cannot wait to see what happens next!

Senor Bueno strikes again!

Part travel adventure, part environmental education, big part madcap adventure, Headhunter Blues never disappoints. Senor Bueno takes us to Borneo this time around. As with all Mike B. Good’s books, this one is filled with well-drawn characters, many we’ve met before and some new one’s you’ll come to love or hate. Great dialog as usual, and the plot is well-constructed and moves along at a nice pace. As always, somehow the hapless Senor Bueno saves the day and in the most unexpected way possible! The book stands alone, but for maximum enjoyment, read the whole Senor Bueno series.

I say this with each one of Mike Good's books - this is the best one yet!
This set of adventures are mostly with Mike and Lily. The rest of the group make a few appearances but are not really part of the story line. Of course Geraldo is involved!
I always learn something new when reading Mike's books. I believe the descriptions of the places he visits are a good depiction of the area.
That all being said-this is a really fun book with madcap adventures. The author tells us it is a cliffhanger but it really isn't.

Going for a well earned holiday , possible future mother in law asked a favour, I mean it can't be that bad to do can it
Once again our intrepid traveler/horticulturist finds out doing favours can become life threatening and along with finding out about the decimation of the forest homes of many species after that his holidays was anything but one.
Another brilliant book in the series and with the great sense of humour of the author we have come to love I highly recommend reading this book.

Senr Bueno and cohorts take us on an environmental tour of Borneo while causing trouble for the palm oil industry. A few skirmishes with government officials and the US DEA liven up this humorous travelogue as the entrepreneur tries to take a holiday and complete a request from his girlfriend's Chinese mobster mother. The humor and background information make this an engaging, entertaining, and worthwhile story.

Read originally as ARC, welcome addition to the series. Although maintaining the laugh out loud , and awful (i.e. the best type) punning, the story takes a darker turn with regard to real life ecological issues. Deftly handled, the awareness raising does not detract from the blend of comedy action thrills Señor Bueno fans have come to love and expect.
