One man’s obsession becomes a desperate fight for humanity’s survival.
Technical Specialist Kerry Sevvers is the Division’s deadliest weapon. His neural implant and team of battle AIs make him an unstoppable force in the war against alien raiders that plague the Three Colonies. Years ago, the raiders stole his mother, fueling a thirst for vengeance that led him to create Six—an unsanctioned AI with limitless potential, far beyond Division control.
When a secret rescue mission uncovers a chilling truth—an unknown alien vessel lurking far beyond the colonial frontier—Sev and his team are thrust into a war for their very survival. The ship’s secrets could save humanity from annihilation, but its ancient technology harbors a terrifying power that could turn Sev’s latest creation against him.
As the line between man and machine blurs, Sev must battle for survival against a relentless enemy whose very existence means the end for all humanity. Can he harness the full potential of his latest creation and lead his team to victory? Or will the power he’s unleashed destroy everything he’s fighting for?
Intrusion Protocol is a pulse-pounding military sci-fi thriller perfect for fans of Marko Kloos, James S.A. Corey, and John Scalzi.
An epic first installment of the Autonomous Weapons Division series, Intrusion Protocol by B. R. Keid develops at a blistering pace, drawing the reader into a fully realized universe with gripping sci-fi action. When Severs, the Technical Specialist of the AWD, faces the dilemma of being sent back to teach, he volunteers himself, and the AIs under his command, into a hands-on rescue mission he’s hardly trained for. Used to remote, AI controlled combat, he faces new and old dangers as he joins a Marine fireteam in the search for a deep cover operative, with the fate of humanity at stake. Superbly written, with vivid descriptive prose, complex characters and compelling themes of vengeance and sacrifice, Intrusion Protocol is one hell of a read. Outstanding. This was a fun book. The characters were interesting, loved the universe detail, can’t wait to see how much that expands for later books. It will also be interesting to see how the concordant issue evolves later, as well as the plans and future escapades of six. I enjoyed this book and recommend it.
An exciting concept about the limits of an AI. Are they just a program to be used or a sentient being to befriend. With lots of action and intrigue this is an excellent book.
Started on 5/11/25. Read approx. 50%, got tired of the narrator and shelved the book.
The narrator chosen for this audiobook is absolutely not my preference. He sounds like your uncle trying to read you a book under mild duress. There's almost no character differentiation barring a couple specific exceptions (characters that are wholly non-human tend to get something unique) and it's extremely annoying, because the whole premise of the book is that the MC has up to six different AI characters in his head, plus of course the other supporting characters.
The differentiation between masculine and feminine characters is decent, but individual characters are almost impossible to tell apart unless you're giving your whole attention to the dialogue as it occurs, which defeats the entire point of an audiobook for me. There's some effort made to differentiate the AI via their speech patterns, but since the narrator can't - or won't - do much to change his voice from the default narrator tone, it mostly just comes across as the MC being robotic, or angry, or excited, and it's only obvious that it's a different character when the dialogue tag is spoken.
I enjoy the setting, though I find that the MC has basically no personality, it's clear the author wants to use flashbacks to flesh out the character, rather than just introducing them and letting us get to know them properly. So it's entirely plausible that if I keep reading, I'll start liking this character.
No star rating as I haven't finished the book nor am I certain I won't - if I end up deciding to DNF, I'll edit this with a proper review.
In the Corners of His Mind👺🗡🔫💥 In the beginning of this military space novel🚀💫💥🔫🗡 The main character, Kerry Sevvers, Is an AI controller and they fight their battles with drones from far Thousands of km away. AI attack drones which he controls from safety in the ship he is in. There are only an few soldiers involved for the most part. He has an AI Controller inside his head so he can do it all with his thoughts. What I am reading is the AI part of it was illegal. He has a life long obsession with killing an alien race called the squid Who are raiders Of the galaxy. They killed or kidnapped his mother when he was a child and he was saved by crawling inside a closet But he feels guilty all his life for what happened. The book also has augmented humans in it for good or worse. A relic ship is found and the crew decides to board it . there are some soldiers in the book but it is a small crew. Once insude the ship, they discover true horrors👹.
There are some very surprising parts to this book That make it very worthwhile to read. Can't give away the plot! Of course this book is just The 1st of a series and ends in a cliffhanger! On to book two! I got this e-book from amazon with kindle unlimited.
This book had me gripped from the start and would not let go. I even ordered the sequel when I was just halfway through this book.
At its core, it's a military scifi following a maverick in the Autonomous Weapons Division, a section of the military which uses a blend of implants, AI programs, and a swarm of drones to defeat the alien threat.
I love how all the characters are unique, and the varied situations they find themselves in. The writing is clear, energetic, with a solid understanding of how the military would work in this setting.
I desperately want to give it 5 stars as I thoroughly enjoyed it and will get the third one in the series when it comes out. The only thing that lets it down for me is understanding the setting. What is the Cradle? Why are they trapped there? What do the aliens even look like? There are hints, but some core explanations really wouldn't go amiss.
That said, this is an awesome book and I highly recommend it.
Keid is not a good writer. The narrative was full of bluster, overwrought prose and bad analogies and language. It really needed an editor who could shorten and focus the single long (very, very long) military expedition to rescue someone.
In the end, it’s essentially an origin story for a series of sequels.
An exciting space opera with a different approach to AI utilization. The characters have depth, and the plot is filled with action that keeps the reader turning pages. The ending is surprising but as anticipated, leads one to want to read the next installment. The second book is on my list to read.
Non-stop action and adventure kept me glued to the story. The characters were awesome and easy to identify with. I really like this book and I highly recommend it.
Awesome book with many interesting characters. You never know what twist and turns it will take.
This author keeps you guessing as to what's coming and how it will play out. The main character will do anything to save Humanity. Even jeopardize his own life and career.
Different tact wonderful result the building not a society faulted but trying hard to survive in impossible timed situations with impossibly hard decisions without knowledge of the truth. Starting the second book
The story is well structured and an easy read. I found the characters interesting and historic base of the story intriguing. Looking forward to the next book.
ore main character was a observer most of the book this made the action seen not as tense as it could be. I felt like the book could be shorter in some plazes.
