I'm a writer/reader/lover of literature. My favorite genre is fantasy (specifically urban fantasy, but I always make exceptions). I have a degree in Theatre, and I'm considering pursuing a Maters in something or other. However, writing will always be my first are foremost career. Now if only it could pay the bills. And for my reading addiction...

My Thoughts: This is a fairly light-hearted and fun, short read, with an interesting and different take on witches and warlocks. Does it make me a bad person that I would actually consider doing the ritual to become a sorcerer? My husband asked me, “Why would you want to live forever?” and I had to reply, “Well, I could finally read all these books!”
The one thing the book could have really used was a line editor. There weren’t a lot of misspellings – except one instance of Ralf Lauren, but there were a lot of places where words were switched around or missing (or the wrong one used) that sometimes made it hard to tell what it was that the author was trying to say. Examples: My emo roommate. Usually she just ignores me, but tonight she said more than two words at a time. I just wish I handed yelled at her. or Is he your sister’s his ancestor? Also, there was a discrepancy – when the story begins it is a Tuesday morning. The events that follow all seem to take place in the same day, including a small spat between Lorelei and her roommate Izzy. However, the next morning it is suddenly Friday.
But you know, I loved the book anyway, and I definitely want to know what’s up with Izzy and where things will go from here. I rated it only 4 stars due to the editing problems, and the beginning could be worked on a bit, but overall I really enjoyed the book. I hope another book will be forthcoming before too much time goes by!
This review is from: Witches in the Holy City (Holy City Series) (Kindle Edition) PRODUCT REVIEW: 18-year-old Lorelei Moskowitz thought she would have a normal college experience, but even she believes that normal is overrated. "Witches" was an interesting story. I liked the characters, especially the main characters Lorelei and Ethan. The author was unable to decide if Lorelei's sister was named Julie or Anne ( an editorial mistake perhaps?) but she was also an interesting character, being one of the few non witches/sorcerers in the story. I really found it ironic that the non magical character of Julie was the 'perfect' sister. Julie was beautiful, smart and fun while Lorelei, the witch, was not as pretty, not as smart and not as much fun. The interaction between Lorelei and her love interest, the sorcerer Ethan was fun to read. As the product review promises, this is more than a simple love story involving witches. There are some very interesting twists and turns. The ending is quite unexpected and leaves you wondering "what happens next?" As this is the first in a series, I expect several of my questions will be answered in the next installment.
Overall, I found this to be an enjoyable and quick read. I look forward to more from this author.
witches in the holy city, as the title suggest, is all about witches and warlocks and magic. since I was a kid, i was really fascinated by magic, especially witches. this book, gives us a diffrent perspective of witches as human'like persons, with human-like situations and emotions, not just all about magic and spells then. the story is natural but as it unfolds, we're overwhelmed with revelations and shock of the facts being presented, and the simple problem, becomes as complicated and complex as the world of sorcery begins to unfold in the characters midst.. the characters are developed well, with distinct but relatable characteristics, and I am very much willing to read more of them. The author uses the right twist and romance to make the reader stop and be filled with the scene or make the reader wanna read for more.
Sadly though, this book is a cliff-hanger which would left you wanting for more, so I bet there's really an installment to this,. this is a fast-read with the kind of beat up for young adults.

This was a very fast read one leaving me wanting more which I have to say is the perfect way to run a series like this. Shawn C. Sproatt has captivated me and definitely gotten me intrigued into where and how this story will progress. The title actually had me thrown off when I first saw and picked to read this. I was expecting a little something different and a little held at bay it’s taken me a while to work up the nerve to read this thinking that it was going to be what I thought it was and then wham she definitely made sure to surprise me.
The 18 year old Lorelei Moskowitz doesn’t ask for much just a normal college experience. However even that seems to be the one thing she knows isn’t going to happen. Just a few problems seem to arise to help keep this from being the one and only thing that happens while she’s at college after all it seems her cousin has seen to it to already start the year off on a crazy note. Julie is Lorelei’s cousin and dating a warlock that is pretty much on a hidden agenda maybe? Probably? The only chance she has of finding out is asking the help of Ethan another warlock that is over 150 years old and stuck in a 25 year olds body.
The concept of the characters was very interesting. I loved how there were non-magical and magical beings interspersed throughout the story with the seeming throw of normalcy it helped add to some of the parts in the story that held the magical content. I believe this to be a very good series to pick up and being while it’s on it’s starting climb and look forward to more work from this author .
