Some powerful quotes:
On committing to something when faced with many choices: "I'll pick something to commit to now, whatever it is, and give it my all, and then see what happens".
On learning something new: "The first step of Deep Practice is to absorb the whole thing in its entirety".
On the struggle to be yourself: "Conforming to the crowd gets you nowhere, overcome your anxieties and force a fearless character"
And my favorite, the 40% rule: When you think you've hit your limit, you're only about 40% done. Keep pushing your limits.
On delaying taking that 'decision': "You may never feel 'ready', but you are more 'prepared' than you think"
📍This book is a handy, easy-to-read, engaging self-help book that helps you adjust your attitude towards life.
• INSIGHT: The authors of ‘The sh*t they never taught you’ have penned a far more engaging new self help book, Attitude.
It is based on their previous format of being inspired by other self help books such as The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, Peak by Chip Conley, I am Malala by Malala Yousafzai and many more.
The route to changing one's attitude is neatly dissected into 5 sections under Vision, Change, Learning, Fear and Boldness.
Several interesting topics have been touched upon such as Deep Practice, Personal Legend, Holy sh*t effect, Couch fixation etcetera.
• REVIEW: The authors have made a good effort simplifying heavy self-help books to stitch together an engaging narrative.
They have created a story to make the reader understand what obstacles stand in the way of being able to change one’s attitude. The anecdotes used are relatable and inspiring at times. The authors, while exploring why you need to change your attitude and look who has changed their attitude, have not spent enough time discussing HOW to change your attitude.
The writing style is conversational, the content is interesting and the topics discussed are essential.
By narrowing down the book’s focus on attitude instead of all the greatest hacks in the world, as they did in their previous book, the authors have created a solid introduction to the path towards success.
• STRENGTH: 1. Simple, eye-catching cover. 2. The authors’ style of writing is easy to understand, conversational. 3. Their story-telling way of introducing each topic makes the book relatable and interesting.
• WEAKNESS: 1. The authors could have spent a little more time exploring ways on how to achieve a change in attitude.
• TARGET READERS: This book is suited for self-help beginners and those already on their journey but looking for a quick read nonetheless.
It's important to take a step back, weighing the pros and cons and then make a decision. True alchemy lies in unearthing our true potential. Listen to your heart intently to discover your personal legend. It also explores Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and draws parallels with the character of Santiago from The Alchemist.
Fear
The chapter - Fear acknowledges the contribution of Sigmund Freud yet quotes from a broader theory that changed the way people perceived fear and understanding of the human mind. It further categorizes fear into Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 fears. Level 1 and Level 2 fears ultimately boil down to Level 3 fear i.e. I can't handle it.
Vision, Change, Learning, Fear, and Boldness are all connected by attitude. It is the only thing that we can control with which we respond to circumstances.
The book is segmented into five parts i.e. Vision, Change, Learning, Fear, and Boldness. They are further divided into sub-sections that delve deep into understanding various facets in a better way. The chapters begin with a statement by an influential figure and then proceed to give an example on how to streamline the thinking process. Something that will make readers take action that gives tangible results. The stories derived from inspiring accounts in literature and history are fascinating. The history geek within me was aroused. The language is casual yet puts the message across effectively.
"It's your turn to craft a vision, start making change, learn something new, conquer fear, and be bold. It's your turn to shift your attitude."

I'm sure we all have thought that one thing - Why hasn't nobody told/taught me that earlier? This is that book. It's a deep dive into all things Attitude. The authors have identified the best books on this topic and extracted the best ideas to come up with five vital lessons.
Divided into five parts, namely, Vision, Change, Learning, Fear & Boldness, the book elaborates one piece of knowledge at a time.
Insights - Vision- knowing where we want to go in the first place. Change- Change can be scary, but inevitable part of the journey to improve our lives. Learning - We will have to try new things. Things that we've never done before, things we never thought we could do. Fear- Very interestingly, this chapter provides a new way to reframe fear into something that will help propel us forward instead of holding us back. Boldness- In spite of fears and not knowing exactly what to do or how to do it, a little bit of boldness.
It's a brilliant book that's surprisingly too easy to read, despite the marvellous content it holds, and gives out easy to follow instructions into molding our lives into a better version of ourselves, in less than 200 pages that i finished in just two days, and I'm sure I'll be keeping this book handy, right at the top of my reading desk because it's worthy of being revisited every now and then. It's a great book for everyone who wishes to improve their lifestyle as it encourages the readers to put up a positive and bold attitude towards life.
In “Attitude: The Sh*t They Never Told You,” authors Adam Ashton and Adam Jones take readers on an inspiring and thought-provoking journey through the wisdom of the world’s greatest thinkers, extracting valuable lessons from all aspects of life. Divided into five parts – Vision, Change, Learning, Fear, and Boldness – the authors share insightful stories that compel readers to reflect on their chosen paths in life.
What sets this book apart is its practical approach. It not only tells stories and theories but also offers key insights that prompt readers to consider the clarity of their goals, their commitment to their chosen path, and their readiness to embrace change. There are times when we mould ourselves according to the situations which aren’t needed. Rather than changing the situation, we change ourselves and that is when the authors introduce us to the concept of – ‘The Slight Edge’.
With each chapter, we gain more clarity about the path we are choosing and our attitude towards the situation. It’s straightforward and to the point, teaching us valuable life lessons, and offering a fresh perspective on well-known theories. The way they explore Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and link it to the ‘work’ context is interesting. They shed light on the daily aspects we often overlook is simply remarkable. Similarly, their insights from Jordan Peterson’s “12 More Rules of Life” are highly motivating and relatable.
🔗 Have you ever heard something so simple yet so profound that it made you say: "Why the hell didn't someone teach me that earlier?!" We have. And it didn't just happen once - it happens every few weeks.
🔗 The authors embarked upon a journey to write a compilation of the most efficient lessons and takeaways after reading awe-inspiring stories about some of history's greatest individuals.
🔗 The book has been written with an approach to provide the reader with an all thing Attitude, to help them achieve clarity. This book majorly focuses on 5 key factors, and provides a systematic and immersive framework around these with the help of short examples and lessons.
▪️Vision
▪️Change
▪️Learning
▪️Fear
▪️Boldness
📌 I've personally have learnt a handful of things from this book, though my favourite one was the section of "Overcoming Obstacles to Change", that brings the value towards sustaining clarity with the help of change.
📌As we constantly thrive to work everyday, we forget or subconsciously become conservative to our current style and avoid change, which leads to the unfulfilled and unexplored potential of ourselves.
📌 If you're someone who is so confused in picking up the right book for a sustainable and healthy mindset and don't want to read multiple books at a time, then this might be a good fit for you bookshelf.
Attitude is a book that combines learnings from various people and places that are super helpful in everyday life! Small and big tips and tricks that can make goals more achievable… because it’s all in the attitude!!
My favourite takeaways from this book are:
1. The Five Keys to Fulfilment - clarity, desire, belief, knowledge and action. Basically if want to accomplish something you must be clear on what it is, want it enough, believe that you will be able to do it, build on the knowledge to keep going towards your goal and take action! All these steps are essential because even missing one will ultimately hamper our success.
2. DSSS Model - basically deconstruction, selection, sequencing and stakes. Anything new that we wish to learn can be done by breaking it into smaller chunks, selecting what parts of it are actually valuable and focusing on those, figuring out the order to learn (not necessarily from beginning to end) and then adding stakes to the process of learning!
These are just two of the many different tools that can easily be used in life! It’s a quick read and a book that you can keep going back to! I’ll definitely be using this book to make learning and achieving simpler!!
The best of books are always the simplest. And within the category of self help books, the best ones always remind you of things you've always known all along. This is one such book.
'Attitude' is divided into five main lessons - Vision, Change, Learning, Fear and Boldness - that are further divided into chapters. Each chapter has frameworks and snippets from.the best books on the subject. Hence, this book is more like an anthology of various self help books, arranged in a coherent fashion, to build a narrative (even when it may not exist, sometimes).
Its biggest USP is also its failing - it offers nothing new. You may as well not read all the other books it cites and only read this one but self help books without examples, stories, data (wherever possible) and exercises do not hold much weight. It may deliver crucial lessons in a crisp manner but fails to deliver a life changing impact.
That being said, if you ever choose to pick this title, get your marker and sticky notes out. The power of the book lies in your faithful application of it and not in its contents alone.
The book is a wonderful collection of the best teachings from thought-provoking books. The book explores various aspects of vision, change, learning, fear, and boldness.
The anecdotes are shared in the form of stories. The writing style is gripping and conversational. One can easily read, understand, and connect to the topics.
This is the second book from the author. The main difference between the previous book "The Sh*t They Never Taught You" and this one is the page length and content. The content is hyperfocused on the microelements of life and is concise.
The opening chapter consisting of Alchemist story is my favorite. The other stories are impactful and moving. The way author starts every chapter with a powerful quote and ends with a proper conclusion and handling over the power to rethink and make changes to the readers is commendable.
This book is divided into 5 broad topics : Vision, Change, Learning, Fear, Boldness.
Every topic consists of bite sized chapters with a plethora of practical references to imbibe some of the best learnings and take aways from over a hundred of the world's greatest thinkers and demystify the golden lessons for you.
The most important takeaway for me from this book is the DSSS learning technique which helps you learning anything new Effectively.
D- Deconstruct your topic S- Select that 20% portion that will help you cover 80% relevance S- Sequence your smaller learning block in a manner that make the most sense S- Stake: Create incentives or consequences for you failing to achieve your learning goal.
IF I HAD KNOWN THIS SOONER, I WOULD HAVE LEARNT AT LEAST 5 NEW SKILLS AFTER COMPLETING MY PROFESSIONAL STUDIES.
If you're one of those people who can't find that one self development book to start with, this would probably be the right choice for a beginner..
This one book is equal to 17 books... here's why...
In this book, the authors have beautifully articulated their learnings from 17 books that they had read. These 17 books were broadly categories under Vision, Change, Learning, Fear and Boldness.
My favourite section of the book was 'boldness'. This part was the perfect end this book could have got. I really appreciate the authors for bringing the focus on fear and how fear impacts us in ways more than one.
For a person like me who has already read those books or books that were written on similar lines, many things didn't wow me , but served as a mere reminder of the life lessons I had learnt in other books. So this book is for those who are new to the non-fiction genre, or for those who have no time to read other books and want someone to just tell about the takeaway from the book.
Not exactly a self help, pretty much tells you, what you already know.
The book is written in pieces by two authors, not coherent and hard to relate sometimes.
It’s tells you about Power of Compounding (when it applies to habits). The book explains that once can make changes in attitude by overcoming 1. Laziness 2. Making our task attractive
It does tell you how exactly but with a clear vision, adaptive to change, open to learn, overcoming fear and boldness can bring you a positive attitude, a sure shot ingredient for success.
I think there are other self help books available in the market that encourages you, this one is just a formality.

Really really good book. Don't hesitate from reading it. You will find something that will struck up your inner cords. Really gives a new vision. And reading about different people's lives and how each of them had struggles but they look surpassed it and changed their life for better.
Punchy wake-up call. No fluff, just raw truths about life, self-worth, and showing up with unapologetic confidence. A mindset reset in under 200 pages. Read it when you’re done being nice and ready to be real.
Snippet of all the best life lessons in a very organized, sequential and engrossing manner. People who just want to get better knowing that they are not doing their best, go for it!
