The development and interest in main characters and secondary characters was enjoyable. I really did like the H/H for this book; very well paired as a couple. You also get a secondary romance which was nice.
I loved the writing around the women empowerment (it wasn’t over the top for me). Badass women rock.
writing style is easy to follow, humorous moments, the give and take dialogue enjoyable.
Romantic/sexual content (kissing, oral, love making scenes) was throughout the book. Nothing over the top; again nicely intertwined in the story. 2.5/5 hotness and steam.
I love series around family members or a group of friends. I love the series even more when the author intertwines those characters throughout the book series (it’s a pet peeve when authors don’t do that because what’s the point of the series and introducing the characters if they are not going to interact throughout the series). Book 2 characters in this storyline.
would recommend this book and series (you don’t have to read them in order however it wouldn’t hurt to read them in order to get the full story throughout the series).
This one was slightly less enjoyable than the others. There was a lot of sex and lust, which deterred from actually feeling the love. The H also took a very long time to even consider marriage with the h.

Overall review for first three below, but here's my throughout on this one...
I dislike the H so much. He's such a little jerk. We met him briefly in bk1 & bk2 he started out as a jackass, but improved when he realised the h was genuine and not trying to play the bk2 H. Seems he was trapped into an engagement by a Dukes daughter who was caught near him and said he was the reason she looked so rumpled. He had just had his own tumble and could hardly point out he was with a different girl... so = betrothed! The fiancée has since shown less that little interest in getting to know him or marrying him. That gives you an opinion right?
Start bk3 with him bitching about not having a chance get to know his betrothed etc and how she trapped him... and how he's still so attracted to and wants the girl he had actually tumbled that night (the h). So, your opinion is backed up... He doesn't want it but she trapped him.
Then it turns out that our little shit H was tumbling the innocent h for quite some time, but was more than happy to betroth to the fiancée because he had always planned on marrying up and now his poor deprived little dick is sad cause the innocent h he had been screwing around with surprised him by rejecting his offer to be his mistress as has always been his plan since she was only a merchants granddaughter. See she had always thought they would be getting married since he pursued her hard and never said a word about not being good enough for marriage etc.
So she's backed off, and he still tries to convince (and shag her) every chance he gets to sign on as mistress cause he loves her and misses her and surely she should be grateful to give up any respectability she has, and with that the little joy and life she has planned to help with the orphanage. She can't possibly be serious about depriving them both of what little happiness they can snatch around his wife just so she can hold her head up in public and do the work she loves!!! *is there a pouty lip emoji... imagine one here*
Right, so he's sad love sick dick is pouting around and not understanding why she won't devote herself to hoovering up his crumbs. Can ya see my problem with him now?
Anyway, he kind of redeems and eventually says 'Screw it all, I love you and I'll marry you regardless of the scandal', but only really seems like he caves cause he's not getting any interest from him fiancee and there's something a bit dodgy there, so let's cut his losses and stick with the one who's devoted to him. 🙄. Then her granddad/guardian dies and the H barges in and carries her to bed to comfort her and lives with her for days on end and moves her into his house... all while relying on the grapevine to end his engagement and deciding 1800 society can just eat it and get over it when he marries her... and he's surprised at just how badly they start to shun his family and her!?!?!?!?
*** Well, I read the first one and was convinced enough to pay for the bundle (1/2/3). They generally seem pretty good, but there's always something that edges them out of 'real' and 'complete'. Not sure how else to explain it. I really dislike the H in bk3 for most of it and then he just goes completely stupid for the era... so I'm not sure if I'll put more money into the series, although they are prices fairly well. I've got a later book in the series for free, so might try that.
At this point the mm series interests me more since we just got a look at Stanis and Redding. Tho I'm not sure if I'll pay for them either.
#3 in the series. Can be read as a stand alone. I got the first 3 books in this series as a bundle on Amazon. Fortunately, I didn't pay that much!
This story is set in Regency England, but those who hate anachronistic stories would do well to avoid it. Too many eye rolling scenes. Disjointed story. At least I could mostly get through this one. Skimmed the sex scenes (it was faster to get through it that way). The H/h get their HEA after none of the big questions were answered. It seems Oscar's former fiance, Penelope will get it on with her brother in law until her sister (locked up in Bedlam) has an unfortunate accident.
I predict I'll forget it by tomorrow, which is why I'm reviewing it today. ;)
An amazing interesting book that draws you in and doesn't let you go until the end. Ms Boyd is a remarkable author with the ability to tell a great story and combine it with historical details of the regency period. There are two love stories happening, suspense and a twist at the end. Although tagged as an erotic historical, I find it more like a very sensual historical. There are detailed well written sex scenes but not a lot of them. Now I will have to read the Hunt Club series to read Redding's and the Duke's story.
These books are pretty terrible. Characters forgiving someone for sleeping with them under the guise of being someone else in the dark? And marrying them? And so many historical cringes. The hero was kind of a dickhead and the heroine...meh. Why do I keep reading these books?

This is an entertaining story of Oscar Carrington and Agatha Birkenstock. They are next door neighbors. Oscar has been attentive to Agatha and wants to marry her. Unfortunately, he finds himself forced to become engaged to Lady Penelope. Every time he tries to talk to Penelope, her brother in law tags along, and she pays him more attention than she does Oscar. In the meantime, Oscar’s mother and Agatha’s grandfather are having an affair. Agatha and Oscar’s mother help support an orphanage where Oscar is checking the books for the trustees of the institution. Grandfather dies, Oscar decides to marry Agatha, and Agatha is kidnapped and then rescued by a Duke.
A heroine with a big heart and a weakness for the boy next door. A hero who has to fight his nightmares and do what he was always told is right - or doesn't he? And a thrilling background story with lots of twists and lovers and deception, a whirlwind of passion and suspense, my heart went out to Randall because I already read his and his family's story - and may I say I absolutely loved the high handed Lord and his capable manservant? Meddling but adorable! I definitely need more of this series.
I enjoyed this book a lot but didn’t like the ending.
You read this high drama and then the book just ends with the rescue? No! NO! Why did they do that?! Which one of them really did it?!? What were they doing with each other?! So many questions and the book just ends.
This is just awful. Cant read another painstaking moment of this pathetic couple’s tale. 35% in they can’t stop the I-can’t-have-you-but-I-must-have-sex-with-you-anyway storyline. Ewww...and the mother’s storyline is not very appealing either.
Seriously it seems this story will be OK and straight forward... Forget about it! Oh my! A non stop of emotions! Truly incredible! It was ever so interesting to learn much more about Oscar and his family! So happy for all!
It was wonderful to find out why Agatha seemed so churlish to Discount Carrington. Their story has so many twists and turns that I was never sure what new truth we would learn on the next page. That also made it difficult to put down!
Charity (Distinguished Rogues #3) by Heather Boyd – There was a lot more drama that I had guessed, but this was a fun historical romance! Happy Reading!
Definitely not my favourite. A good way to past the time though. Agatha Birkenstock has a big heart and she is in love with the boy next door. The boy next door being Oscar Ryall, Lord Carrington. So, not much of a boy really. Except, he really hurt her. Broke her heart is a better term for it. He was caught in a compromising position with another lady, but it was all a misunderstanding. However, he can’t say the real reason why his clothes are all rumpled, he’d ruin Agatha’s reputation. So, he finds himself engaged. Agatha is of course heart broken. Oscar feels duty bound to marry this girl. His heart is obviously not in it but he can’t figure a way out without causing a scandal. He does however, have the audacity to ask Agatha to be his mistress, which she refuses. When reading his view point we find out that was his plan all along because she is only a merchants daughter. So, he’s a bit of a dick really. Okay. A massive dick. Agatha was always under the impression that they would be married, he heavily pursued her and never gave any other inclination.
He does love her. But he didn’t want to marry her, and now he cannot because he is betrothed to someone else. He really did annoy me in this whole situation. He can’t expect to have his cake and eat it too. Obviously it’s a story but he just really frustrated me. He still wants to try and have a tumble with her whilst betrothed to someone else. Honestly. Men. He does redeem himself later on though.
Agatha has a very good distraction, she has the orphanage. I enjoyed this part. It’s lovely how she dedicated her time to these little children. You could feel her care for them and, their love for her. It definitely brought the storyline together for me. She also realised that she couldn’t have a scandal because it might interfere with the orphanage and the people that run it would probably refuse her access.
Was drawn in by Boyd’s writing yet again, even though I personally did not get on with the hero, her writing skills cannot be denied. She just always writes in such vivid detail, her stories are fantastic on that front.
Loved the 3rd installment. Lord Carrington (Oscar) is still recalling the man he murdered, but it wasn't murder it was self defense. He lives Agatha but can not marry her because she is not nobility. When he is caught leaving an astignation with Agatha but can't reveal its her he is caught in Lady Penelope's lie that he was with her. It breaks Agathas heart that he used her. She puts her heart and soul into the orphanage to forget about Oscar. When he is asked to look at the books at the orphanage she is thrown together with Agatha. He can't understand why he thinks something is off between his intended and her brother-in-law. When tragedy strikes Agatha it's Oscar to the rescue. Oscar also over hears his mother and Mr. Manning that he now knows to be true. A wonderful read with a great ending.
He’s going to marry another woman for status but he wants h to continue being his lover but she doesn't want to (even when they still sleep together when H is already engaged). At the end he realizes that he wants to marry h for love but that doesn't take away the first impression that she was never his first choice and that bothers me. And let's not talk about the kidnapping drama c’mon
