How To Do Single With Dignity & Grace
I am 59 years old. I’ve never been married, and I’ve never had children. It’s written from a heterosexual woman’s point of view about my interactions and relationships with heterosexual men. My intent is not to be exclusionary, I believed it most important to write about what I know.
I share my experiences with friendship, dating, and being partnered. I don’t have a lot to say about that last, because my longest relationship was seven years and it ended when I was 31. But I see what works and doesn’t work in my friend’s relationships and I know a lot about effective communication. The content is heavy on opinion, but I’ve also included information intended to educate.
It’s written in my real voice. Sometimes I’m sarcastic and sometimes downright snarky. But mostly, I’ve written about my truths straight from my heart. I’ve been through a lot, and I’ve overcome a lot. I want to share what I’ve learned. I want you to realize you’re never alone in your struggle; all of us singles face similar circumstances and challenges. There are far more similarities than differences. You’ll find you’re not nearly as bad as you think sometimes, and you’re much further along in your personal growth than you give yourself credit.
If you’re chastising yourself for something you think you did wrong, think about how you would treat a friend if they did the same thing. You’d affirm them, walk with them through their pain, and extend them grace. Learn to do the same for yourself. Remember, you are unique in all of the universe for all of time. That means that every moment you’re your own perfect YOU.
