Parenting Anxious Kids was a great informative read. The book is full of tips to improve the way you, as a parent, approach different anxieties your child might have. It gives a list of what is normal, how we might create a bit of anxiety in our kids, and how to help your child with anxiety.
This book helped me a lot. Not only did I discover my child is not as anxious as I previously thought, but I know exactly when he gets anxious what time of year it is and why it happens. I live in a part of the US that sees tornadoes during the Spring and my child gets very anxious during the Spring even when it is just rain. I've had some success in easing this in the past. Now this book has given me more things I can try to do to help my child.
Also, since my child is only 9 I can continue to go back to this books for different techniques of things that can help as my child grows and his anxieties might change.
This was very informative and helpful. Just a reminder though, this book is not in place of taking your child to a professional if needed. This book is mostly to help you, the parent, learn some things to stop doing and some things to do.
My anxious 9 year old checked this out from our public library and gave it to me to read. How could I say no? It’s not my first rodeo with parenting an anxious child, and I wish I would have had this when my youngest (now 21) was a toddler. Much of the info here was not new to me. That said, it’s a helpful read for any parent, especially if you have a child showing signs of anxiety.

This is a great resource for parents with anxiety. I recently got diagnosed with anxiety which I knew but it was nice being confirmed. This has a lot of great ideas for different ages to help me with my daughter and even myself. Love reframing, I try to do it but forget sometimes. So many great suggestions and ways to help both the parent and the child. This can be read all the way through or used as a resource by age or to look up for assistance.
I picked this book up to see how it stacked up against my graduate school texts for pediatric psychology. Low and behold, this title measures up against manuals for the evidence-based therapies used to treat pediatric anxiety disorders. It is accessible to the parent who is learning about a child's diagnosis for the first time as it is also a good recap for someone more well versed in anxiety disorders. I especially appreciate the background on specific anxiety disorders like selective mutism, separation anxiety, and panic disorders.

First off, this book is an easy read and flows so well. I love how it describes anxiety, tells you what the signs are and gives you real life tips on how to handle your anxious babies. She gives examples of what you may be doing to increase their anxiety and how you can switch it to help them. I learned so much for this book! Highly recommend.
I’ll admit that I skimmed this BUT I was able to take away so much information and I learned a lot of tips. My kiddos are 2 and 5 and have some anxious tendencies and this book was helpful in knowing what is typical and what isn’t AND what to do (or not to do) about it. I think this is a parenting book “must” for parents raising the next generation. I will be recommending it to my friends!
In the introduction of Parenting Anxious Kids, author Dr. Galanti tells the reader that the book will teach specialized parenting techniques that will help parents manage their child’s anxiety and she delivers on that promise! Starting with the toddler years, she addresses anxiety at each stage of life through young adults. I love that Dr. Galanti provides a game plan for parents of anxious children. The book is practical without being judgmental. Each section is set up the same way, making the book easy to navigate. Dr. Galanti provides parents with normal expectations within each stage, challenges that parents may encounter, exercises to practice and information to revisit from previous chapters. Parents can feel empowered to help their children take control of their anxiety either concrete CBT skills. I definitely recommend this book and have already shared it with many of the families I work with.
This was informative and thorough, and I liked that it was organized by age range to discuss the best strategies at each stage of development (toddlers, preschool, school age, middle school, high school, college and beyond).
I especially liked that the parenting skills discussed were practical and it truly spoke to a lot of second-guessing I do as a parent for what will be most helpful to my child in the long term, and gave strategies to handle tricky situations.
I think this will prove to be a valuable resource I can return to again and again.

An easy to read guide on parenting anxious kid. It's broken down by age group, which I appreciate--it's so different from age 4 to age 8. Would recommend picking this up if you have an anxious child and you'd like new parenting techniques to help them in their day-to-day life.
From toddlers through emerging adults, Dr. Galanti comprehensively describes how to support your anxious child and yourself. The book format is concise, practical and provides ample explanations and Interventions to resonate with many parents. This book is ideal for the parent looking for concrete ideas, and starting their journey of parenting an anxious child.
Since anxiety symptoms can look different as a child grows, I appreciated the developmental descriptions, interventions and assessments. I think this book has benefit for many parents seeking a resource. This is also an excellent book for graduate students and new clinicians to develop their understanding of the struggles for an anxious child and their family.
A solid survey course on childhood and adolescent anxiety and its typical presentations during a child’s development. Primarily cognitive-behavioral strategies for addressing these concerns, though some parent-child interaction therapy and elementary play therapy tools offered as well. Particularly liked the plan for encouraging independent sleep and that there is a section on young adulthood as well. This is a good resource for parents who have children with a sensitivity to anxiety to keep on hand.
As a layperson, I learned a lot from this book — both about myself and about what to do if I’m ever in this situation. The key ideas I learned were to:
- teach kids with anxiety how to recognize and label their emotion - teach kids with anxiety coping skills and help them achieve independence
I feel better knowing that I’m on the right track and I will be better able to help the kids in my life who have anxiety because of this book.
Very helpful and informative book guiding parents down the path of helping their anxious children. A brief overview on the science and biology of anxiety is followed by chapters with specific tools and strategies for each age range (toddler, preschool, early years, teens, etc). I borrowed this from a library to read through and will absolutely be purchasing my own copy to refer back to.
Some of this seemed just a little outdated however if it’s the first (even second) time you’ve explored the topic of parenting for kids with anxiety this is a good place to start for decent foundation.
Really just read the sections of this that are relevant to my kiddo's current age, because I needed some perspective. Noting it here so I can return to it later.
