This book offers 228 pages of analysis of the Chinese Revolution, the present Chinese economy, the trend towards capitalist restoration and how socialists inside the United States can lend their support to the people of China. "China: revolution and counterrevolution" is a unique contribution to the left, using a Marxist analysis to identify political and social trends in China 30 years after the introduction of capitalist market reforms.
A great overview of china’s issues and revolution. It’s been good to get me interested and be able to hold conversation about China, but I’m interested to read more focused books about topics. The final essay by the psl explaining its position was very insightful and helpful so that’s my favorite part of this book
Analysis of contemporary Chinese political economy, grounded in the historical context of the Chinese revolution and the global class struggle. Includes an important appendix outlining the grounds for (not uncritical) socialist defense of China from imperialism and post-Iraq invasion-type dismemberment. Important stuff.
A very informative and well researched look into China from a Marxist-Leninist perspective. Explains the historical context around big policies should as The Great Leap Forward and The Cultural Revolution. And has a solid analysis of Deng Xiaping’s economic reforms after 1978 and how that affected the people of the international working class.
This is a bit outdated, as it's roughly 15 years old now and a lot of stuff has changed in China since its publication.
That said, it's a good look through a critical lens that also doesn't feed into imperialist garbage that we hear about China. I disagree with a couple takes around Deng Xiaoping, but the information that backs the general ideas are still very valid.
