FBI Special Agent Caleb Baldwin is on the hunt for a serial killer who has left a trail of burned bodies. One of those victims — his wife. As he gets closer to finding the killer, he falls deeper into an elaborate conspiracy.

This book is the first installment of a larger story. Turns out it's a vampire story. But it's very different from your normal blood sucking creature of the night. May I say thank the gods that these guys don't SPARKLE. What I found intriguing is that I also had played with this concept of a vampire in my role playing game days. Imagine a vampire who sucks the life energy from you directly, not through drinking your blood but by drawing your energy into himself for sustenance.
I think I'll be continuing this series as it really interested me. You've got a police detective tracking a serial killer who also killed his wife.
You meet an amnesiac who wakes up in a coffin and works his way free. He learns that he has powers that can kill while sustaining him.
The story has the potential to go to some interesting places. I see a lot of conflict between the policeman, the vampire, and a cast of characters that were either hinted at or only slightly explored in this introductory episode.
I enjoyed the characters. The central characters of the vampire, the cop and a young girl who starts as a kidnapped, abused child are all deeply nuanced. There's a lot that can be explored in each.
Once I catch up on my other to do reads, I'll be buying more episodes in this serial.

A must read. These authors have quickly become my favorite authors. Please read all there series. Because we need writers like Sean and David to continue to write and entertain us. Because authors like these make young and the not so young want to read.
