I was used to doing things alone, just me and my trusty dog, Duke. We were a solo team ever since my partner retired and I transferred over to the K-9 unit. Duke was the best police officer I'd ever worked with, and the only male I needed in my life. That was until Travis Cooper, beefcake firefighter, caught a job I'm looking into.
He was first on the scene of a major arson, and because we each had a unique set of skills, the brass thought it would be a good idea for us to work together. I'll never forget the first time he looked into my eyes and said, "You're in over your head, girl scout."
That's when I knew the gloves were coming off. I was going to give Travis a whole lot more than he bargained for, starting by knocking him down a few pegs.
This book wasn’t for me. Didn’t seem to like each other but off to bed they went. Neither seem to be very professional with their job. Also didn’t realize it wasn’t a standalone. Did not enjoy the writing.
Travis came across as a complete jerk, he yanks her chain just to get a rise out of her. That is not compelling or attractive at all. And she lets him get away with it more than once because of his history (he does do a little bit of soul-sharing but it’s just not the way a macho firefighting guy like him would act). The fact he’s on the cover of a calendar has no bearing on the story, except (I guess) to make sure we know how ‘hot’ he is. I didn’t feel love between these characters, or even romance, just physical attraction, and the intimate scenes were sparse and lacking connection. I could have let some of that go if the solution to the mystery hadn’t been so painfully obvious. The description doesn’t state this is a cliffhanger, so I ran smack into an extremely abrupt (and unexpected) ending.
No, I did not enjoy what I read. But if you enjoy a cheap thrill then this book of very standard overdone plot is for you. Complete with sleazy objectification of women and men alike. Not enjoyable at all.
Flatline Emergency Love Series, Book 1 By: Lexy Timms, Autumn Gaze Narrated by: Carrie Coello, Rowan Knightly
I love a good story that has good characters and a good story and Lexy Timms and Autumn Gaze delivers with their first of the Emergency Love series. Travis and Alaina have gotten off on the wrong foot. Both thrown into a case, trying to find out if the fire that was started is arson and if so, who is behind it, they are not happy to be working together. But as the case heats up, so does their chemistry. What will happen? This is a great story, pulling in K-9 dogs, mentors, mystery and danger. I love the push pull, and dogs are definitely my favorite! It ends with a cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to listen to book 2! Bring it on!
Carrie Coello and Rowan Knightly bring this gem alive with a fabulous narration. They understand their characters and fit them with the best voices. Each feeling is acted out and the emotions are felt right through, from fear to love. It's a fabulous performance.
An enjoyable book. I listened to the audiobook of this story which is narrated by Carrie Coello and Rowan Knightly and I thought they were fabulous telling this story...they were captivating with their acting skills anf I did enjoy listening to them. Alaina and Travis don't seem to like eachother much but they are undeniably attracted to eachother.. Alaina is a cop investigating a spurt of fires taking place in the area,,Travis is the hot distraction she doesn't need. Travis is a firefighter and is assigned to help Alaina on the case of finding the person who is lighting fires everywhere. As they work closely together they slowly get to know eachother and have a few steamy encounters, but still seem to pretend they don't like one another. This isn't a standalone and so ends unfinished so prepare yourself..I do want to listen to book 2 and can't wait to see what happens in the other 2 books. Flatline is a suspenseful, steamy listen with mystery and intrigue. A great listen.
Duke - good. Everything else - ugh. Hint at who the baddie was - appeared early. It was just a mention, but it was so out of place that it raised a red flag. The romance - what romance? They hate each other, but lust after each other. And then out of nowhere, heart eyes. Oh, the sex scenes are hilarious, by the way. I thought this book was written in the 2010s or earlier (have a laugh at these award-winning bits of writing: https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-en... ), but no, it was published in 2023. Not cool - no consent, no condom, no class.
Alaina is a canine cop investigating a very suspicion building explosion/fire when she meets fireman hunk Travis. Both are annoyed with each other and the requirement to work together to solve the fire problem. Gradually, they begin to get along better as they investigate the first and then subsequent and previous fires with similar issues. The annoyance turns to chemistry that happens at weird times while they're investigating. Reasonable story but a little unrealistic and predictable. Quick read.
Such a good book! I enjoyed the storyline and the characters! She is prickly and he is affable. They both have to figure out how to work together while ignoring their explosive chemistry. I loved the suspense but was bot thrilled with the ending. The romance got concluded but the story did not. It left me feeling kind of unfinished. I listened to this on audio. Carrie Coello and Rowan Knightly did the narration. They both do a good job. The male narrator is choppy and boxy which took a bit to get used to.
Both fear love for different reasons. Did find her police dog not as involved as it could have been, she did not note it's reactions as she could have done. He was a little intense for his position in the fire department. Story seemed to cut short coming to fast conclusion. But loved the story a lot.
Flatline, book 1 of the Emergency Love series, by Lexxy Timms & Autumn Gaze. @ lexxy_timms & @ autumngazeauthor are new authors for me. This book ends on a cliffhanger.
This was an ok book. I liked it enough to finish it but no desire to read the 2nd or 3rd book of the trilogy. There was nothing wrong with the book in the slightest, it just wasn't entertaining for me.
An enemies to lovers story. Travis and Alaina are on a fire investigation. She’s a strong willed cop. He’s the sexy hot cover of the fireman’s calendar. He’s arrogant, grumpy and not looking for romance. It is a short , steamy story which could ended in a cliffhanger. I wish it was longer. Th narration was good.
Meh!! Tried it because it was on kindle unlimited, nothing grabbed me about this story!! No story to speak off. None of the characters are memorable. Didn't really enjoy.
This book was not for me. Didn’t seem to like each other but off to bed they went. Neither seem to be very professional with their job. Did not enjoy the writing.
