We’ve Got This: Unlocking the Beauty of Belonging” features author Ritu Bhasin’s factual accomplished expert in assisting people from distinct environments in creating a solid sense of belonging and finding inner satisfaction across their journeys in life.

In the first pages, the author is set up in the South Indian ashram’s main hall, where she hopes that yoga will help her unlock inner peace and happiness. She is, however, finding it hard to focus on her breathing with her mind making constant drifts that reveal her sad struggle with identity, self-confidence, and acceptance. Her childhood experiences created a feeling of unworthiness and low esteem, which later crept into adulthood. Readers will find themselves sympathetic as she sadly narrates how numerous people adored her for what she could do and not for who she was, causing her to paddle in deep hurt and racial prejudice for years.

Ritu Bhasin has meticulously revealed how being rejected shattered her spirit, allowing loneliness and adoption of a fake self-image to avoid being further judged, and hatred by the people around her. After an extended period of struggle, the author would come to understand what she missed since childhood- core wisdom that enables self-love, acceptance, and quick recovery from traumatic events.

This is a great read that has been devoted to people who have had unfruitful pursuits for true happiness and absolute peace. One of the author’s incredible takeaways that has positioned her book as a best seller, is her finding that confirms absolute healing and restoration to go beyond yoga exercises. Encountering this text will help readers understand why some people will usually feel unloved, and how they can embrace their authentic selves to achieve the best of life there can ever be.

In culmination, “We’ve Got This: Unlocking the Beauty of Belonging” is a uniquely told five-star self-help read that will positively influence a reader’s choices and beliefs. I feel author Ritu Bhasin’s work is bound to see millions of people around the globe inspired to inspect the areas of their lives that need to be worked on.

I received a copy of this title during an inspiring and energizing conference talk Bhasin spoke at. The book did not disappoint. I am not a huge fan of self-help books because too frequently the author only has one insight and repeats it for nine chapters. Not so with “We’ve Got This” and I stayed engaged and learning throughout. Recommend this title to anyone seeking to understand how current behavior is driven by past experiences.

This a powerful book that I picked up because it had a heart post it note on the front and a librarian has written - note about “thriving and standing in your own power”.

It is honest, raw at times and highly reflective. The author shares the trauma of her childhood but also her strength in overcoming challenges, standing up for others and being herself as she works to teach diversity and equity.

I am glad to have read this book and will continue to reflect.

The world needs more inclusiveness.

While I’m not Punjabi like Ms. Bhasin is, I am a member of a few other minority groups that are also misunderstood by society at large at times. I smiled and nodded along as I took note of the many similarities between our two lives that may not appear to have much in common at first glance. There is something refreshing and encouraging about discovering what one has in common with a stranger, and I was glad I took this journey with her.

The repetition in this book made it difficult for me to remain highly interested in reading the next page or chapter. As excited as I was to explore this topic and as much as I wanted to give it a higher rating, repeating the points so many times made them less meaningful to me as a reader. So many passages could have been trimmed down or combined into previous chapters.

Some of the most memorable sections for me were the ones that explored how yoga can bring about both physical and emotional healing. This is a form of exercise I’ve practiced on and off for years, and I’ve also found it incredibly helpful for dealing with all sorts of physical and emotional sore spots. The more people who become aware of this option, the better if you ask me!

I also struggled with how much time the author spent sharing her own story. Obviously, it was important to understand her catalyst for writing about standing strong in the face of hate and discrimination, but I kept wishing for more advice on practical ways to do so instead of more examples of prejudice. There was so much more that could have been done with these later sections.

With that being said, I did find the section that talked about how to let someone know when they’ve said something offensive useful. It can be difficult for some people to hear that they’re being hurtful, and they may not always be open to listening to how certain words feel when one is on the other side of them. There are ways to nudge those automatic reactions aside, though, and it’s good to do so when possible.

We’ve Got This: Unlocking the Beauty of Belonging was thought provoking.

We've Got This by Ritu Bhasin is a call to embrace the often-challenging journey toward authentic belonging. Drawing from her personal experiences as a child of immigrant parents and her professional expertise in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Bhasin crafts a narrative that is both a memoir and a manual. Her stories of battling racism, understanding cultural identity, and ultimately finding her place in the world resonate deeply, offering readers of diverse backgrounds a mirror and a map.

Bhasin's writing style mixes vulnerability with vigor. She does not shy away from discussing the pain and confusion of her early years. Moments of racism, cultural dissonance, and personal doubt are laid bare with a raw honesty that is as compelling as it is educational. Her transition from a successful lawyer to a DEI leader is not just inspiring but also instructive, providing practical advice for anyone looking to make a significant life change or to find deeper meaning in their work and relationships, empowering the reader and equipping them for personal and professional growth.

The book shines brightest when Bhasin discusses the concept of "Performing Self," the facade we often present to fit in or feel accepted. Her insights into how this performance can drain one’s sense of self and belonging are poignant. The personal anecdotes she shares, such as her reflective moments in an ashram or interactions with her parents, are not just relatable but are also used effectively to illustrate broader truths about human nature and societal expectations.

We've Got This is a compelling guide to living authentically. Bhasin's book is a powerful testament to the beauty and complexity of forming a true sense of belonging. This self-improvement book is highly recommended for anyone feeling adrift in their cultural, professional, or personal identity, but it particularly resonates with activists and advocates of DEI, validating their work and inspiring them to continue their efforts.

Just finished this book and I can’t recommend it enough. Having had the privilege of meeting and spending time with Ritu in my early 20s, I was in awe of her then, and still am. She’s always been a badass leader in my eyes, someone who inspired me deeply, even if she wasn’t officially my mentor.

Her story is both moving and powerful. I was saddened by her experiences with bullying but can now see how those moments shaped the incredible woman she is today. Her courage in sharing these painful chapters of her life, alongside the lessons and reflection questions she offers, is truly a gift.

What struck me most was how much of her story resonated with my own. I could see my own journey reflected in her words: the self-hatred I struggled with before therapy, the fear and secrecy around seeking help, the shedding of relationships that no longer served me, and the eventual return to the ancestral healing practices I had rejected as a child.

Ritu’s humor also shone through, and I found myself laughing out loud more than once. From her dad’s shock at the price of shoes we pay for now, while proudly championing Walmart shoes, to the hilarious collection of massage tools we all seem to have, these moments of levity made her story all the more relatable and heartwarming.

This book is not only a memoir; it’s a guide for self-discovery and acceptance. I’m so grateful to Ritu for sharing her journey and reminding us that the path to belonging starts within ourselves. We’ve Got This is an inspiring and affirming read and I’m giving it a well-deserved 5 stars.

Book Review: "We’ve Got This" by Ritu Bhasin ✨📚

In "We’ve Got This," Ritu Bhasin provides a powerful look at healing, thriving, and standing in your power. Drawing from her own experiences as a child of working-class immigrants, she offers insights on unlocking belonging for yourself and others, challenging the pressures to conform, and embracing authenticity.

This book was eye-opening, especially as it shed light on the struggles of being a "lonely only." Bhasin's writing is compelling, and I found myself jotting down notes to capture the impactful messages that resonated with me. While I enjoyed it, I leaned more toward a three-star rating as it felt more like a memoir than a guide.

Nonetheless, "We’ve Got This" is an important read, reminding us of the beauty and challenges in finding our place and embracing our true selves. I want to express my gratitude to the author and publisher for the advanced listening copy. 🙏✨

The writer describes her life experiences; as a kid born in a color immigrant family, struggling with bullying in her childhood and how she discovered the importance of being ourselves. When reading this beautifully written and inspiring memoir I strongly suggest having a notebook and a pen on hand and take the time to complete the reflection exercises at the end of each chapter.

Within the first few pages Ritu dives into her inner thoughts about who she is and how people see her. She takes you on a journey of understanding and rediscovering yourself. Ritu takes you through how she started to mask to attempt to find belonging and how she unlayered these different masks and became her true self.

I highly recommend reading this book if you are struggling with belonging or find that you are constantly masking your true self from the world around you.
