Talk Dirty To Me

Rate this book
From award-winning, bestselling author, Imogen Keeper, comes a sexy paging-turner romance with twists and turns and lots of dirty talking.

It began online with a single message. Two strangers, shedding layers, moving apart then near. One question more. One deeper confidence. One raw admission.

Maybe it could have happened with anyone, but I don't think so. I think it was just something about the strange, f*cked-up oppositional force of us.

Direct messages became text messages, and text messages became stolen phone calls, hot whispers in the night, dirty pictures, and filthy words. And when phone calls weren't enough, it got real.

He destroyed everything I always wanted, showed me who I really am. He ripped apart the fabric of my world, exploded it with lies and darkness and painful truths.

He was a hitman, and I was his target.

This is our story.

If you love stories with hot tattooed hitmen, secrets, mystery, humor and explosive heat, this is the story for you. HEA guaranteed, full-length standalone, no fades to black, nothing but fun.

WARNING: This is a story about a heartless hitman hired to kill a woman. He stalks her for his job and falls in love. If that idea offends you, this story probably isn't for you.

Hot, Hot, Hot!

There was a lot of dirty texting before the dirty talking, but either way, I liked it. The Hero’s name was Stranger which technically was a nickname but he has had it since he was a small child and even nobody called him by his actual name since then. He is a hitman who is saving up enough money for his brother who lost his legs in the Middle East to live off comfortably.

Stranger usually only gets hired to kill by the government so it is generally very bad people. However this time he is hired way in advance of the date the killing is supposed to take place and the target is a young woman who seems to be nice to everyone. So before he will go ahead with the job he is determined to find out why anyone would want to kill Mia.

Mia is an author of romance novels, and Stanger has done some writing in the past, so he posts it on a writers forum that she belongs to and starts messaging her. They become friends and critique each other’s work. Soon they are messaging each other more and more. Since her genre is erotic romance, the critiques and texts become dirty and flirty and things get intense pretty quickly considering she has a fiancé.

The book was extremely hot, often funny, romantic, and the story was very well thought out and flowed smoothly from beginning to end. The characters were well developed and supporting characters had depth and were enjoyable to read. All in all I thought it was a great book with a steamy romance and a tight storyline with drama, suspense and danger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

*4.5* Doesn’t it suck when you’re innocently going about your life, everything neatly planned and something knocks you down and ruffles up all those perfect plans?

This romantic suspense has so much HEART. It was funny, steamy, with a bit of darkness.

Oh my lord, this book was a sloooow burn, but it burned REALLY hot if that makes any sense? I found myself just as giddy as Mia was for every text, call, and finally that first FaceTime with Stranger.
I’ve never done heroin or ecstasy, but this is what I imagine it feels like. Some evil spirit just injected me with pure lust and it hits me low, ripples through my blood, stealing under my skin like a fever and I’m…lost.
If we are lucky in life, we find a special someone who will help be your mirror. Someone to help you take that long look at yourself that you don’t want to really do. That shit can suck, as mirrors can be brutally honest. Mia and Stranger are the mirror for each other, a safe place to crack open their hidden souls. These two polar opposites had the sweetest, most perfect chemistry.
“I didn’t know how much fun life could be before you.”
The only thing I didn't enjoy was

Ahhh I LOVED this read!

Stranger and Mia couldn't be more different but somehow fit together perfectly.

Their twisted but natural relationship had me rooting for them the whole novel. With so much delightful tension and clever hooks, I'd read until the wee hours of the morning!

Highly recommended for readers who like their romance on the darker side, steamy, but still sweet with a nice dose of well-placed humor.

I sat on this book for a while, not sure why because as soon as I started it I was like "Oh yeah, the psycho stalker dude, I remember reading this sample at the end of the Plague series" and fell right into the story. Easy to read and follow.

It was sweet and hot and funny and I loved all the texting dialogue between Mia and Stranger. I like that he portrayed as a hottie with practically every encounter, sometimes I forget what the hero looks like and that certainly did not happen here. At the meet up at the winery, it was sooo easy to picture him. Penny was an unexpected ally.

The mystery was interesting and the person who hired a hit on Mia was a surprise since it didn't feel right. They had to have hidden a deep hatred for Mia for a long time and maybe it was just Mia being clueless like she was with everything else. Even with her parents! It was a little much how blind she was. Stranger ripped the blindfolds off ruthlessly- with intensity- since that is just the kind of man he is. :) (sarcasm)

It was interesting to me that we have this badass assassin that (when cornered by Mia) had no problem telling her he loved her but won't tell her he kills people for a living. It would have seemed to me that he wanted to protect his heart so he could continue his cold existence but no.
This (to me) was the heart of the story:
"She turned me into a man. She woke me up. I was dead before her. She brought me to life one text at a time."

I do wish she had broken things off with "Jer"- hate that nickname- before being intimate with Stranger since that wasn't right. She should have had a clue, duh, with all this time away that her Fiancé might be sleeping around? Wasn't at all suspicious? She should have done the right thing and stood up for herself and her history with him instead of waiting until it was too late.

Was she blind to people or purposely not looking? Hmm.

Mia has the perfect life. Her career is doing great and her fiancé is perfect. She’s happy. She meets a Stranger online who makes her question everything.

That chemistry between Mia and Stranger is that slow burn kind. The kind that leaves you wanting more. That build up of feelings until there’s that magical explosion. Oh yeah! Is it wrong to be attracted to Stranger? If it’s wrong, I don’t want to be right! The pacing of the story is good. The author threw in some good twists. I did NOT see that ending! I was totally surprised and my mouth may have been open in shock. Okay yes it was.

This is a great and entertaining read! I highly enjoyed the author’s writing style. This is a new to me author and will be looking for more books by her. If you love a slow burn read with a side of suspense, this book is for YOU! I give this 5 stars.

This is the first stand alone I've read by Imogen Keeper. I had my reservations at first. But this proved to be a good read.

Mia's life is perfect. She's a trust fund baby, she's engaged to her best friends brother, and the books she writes are doing well.

Little does she know that someone wants her dead. And our story takes off from there....

It's easy to be engaged with a catchy trope like this, but this author takes things a bit further by really delving into Mia and Stranger as characters. You love them and you hate them sometimes. But you mostly love them. It's easy to love Mia because she's sarcastic and fun, even though she can be naive and come off as privileged at times. And Stranger is considerate and has a good heart, even though his secretive nature and his job makes him seem manipulative and cold at times.

And seeing these two come together, naturally bonding over the course of weeks without ever meeting was sweet. These two had a mental connection before they ever had a physical one. And even though I generally dislike books with cheating, the course of which things happened with Stranger and Mia didn't feel wrong; it felt inevitable.

And they approach the situation as adults, confronting their feelings at face value. They realize what their doing is kinda wrong, but they also talk about taking the necessary steps to move past it. In other words, I didn't hate them even though the cheating aspect rubbed me wrong. And by the end of the book, I felt okay with it seeing how everything goes down.

Overall this was a good book. It's more about the characters than the story really, but the story is still intriguing when it rears it's head. 4 stars.

Wow. Wow. Wow. I was blown away by how much this book gripped me. I think watching them get to know each other via messages really drew me in fast. Very very good story: hitman,ex military kind of fed up with life, gets a contract to kill the heroine who is a successful writer of erotic stories.

I enjoyed reading Talk Dirty To Me. The story got a bit wordy sometimes, but it's a good, solid story with mystery, family drama and great sex. The various characters are the best part. Keeper made an unbelievable story totally believable. Kudos

Bump this one to the top of your Want-to-Read list, because it THAT good! Read just a couple of the passages that I highlighted and you'll get a feel for how well-written this is. The dialogue, the insecurities, the sex scenes, everything was pitch perfect.

Perfect, pretty Mia Whitten and darkly dangerous Stranger Lowe's worlds collide when someone takes out a hit on Mia anonymously. After a bit of research, and urged on by his brother, Stranger endeavors to discover the reasons and the person behind the hit.
Suspense, eroticism and romance aside, the FMC and MMC develop to a remarkable degree throughout the story.

Mia has sublimated her passionate nature into this outwardly plastic persona. As an adult she has created a career for herself as an erotic romance writer, and her home is a wild riot of color and whimsy that reflects an energy and appetite for life which is a direct contrast with her outward appearance. While she is privately and secretly pursuing some of her dreams, she is still very much caught up in her people-pleasing tendencies. She is planning to marry her long-time boyfriend, despite some serious red flags, but she feels unable to face the disappointment and possible rejection, by her family especially.

Stranger has survived a tough childhood, but carries so much guilt and self-condemnation for what he considers the abandonment of his brother in the foster care system when he aged out, that he has convinced himself that his life or any future is forfeit. He has shut his emotions down and has systematically distanced himself from everyone. He feels like the military turned him into a killing machine, and that suits his objectives perfectly.

A little curiosity and a just few shared words is all it takes for this pair to take one another careening off the courses they had fixed for themselves. It was DELICIOUS.

**While reading this, I kept thinking back to the Joyce Carol Oates short story, "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been? " and how everything Albert Friend said (including his name) was an attempt to lull Connie into a false sense of security and insinuate himself into her psyche. He was still sinister AF, and the reader could certainly sense the danger, but Connie was targeted by him for a reason.
Conversely, Mia senses that EVERYTHING about Stranger Lowe (including his name) exudes danger. All she has to do is read a bit of his writing to imagine exactly what he's capable of, and he does nothing to allay her suspicions on that front. However, Mia can't resist the pull between them, or at least chooses not to.

I heard about this series some days ago when I was scrolling through Instagram and saw Imogen talking about it (if you don’t follow her yet, do it because apart from being a talented author she is the kindest!!) and, since I became her fan while reading After the plague (go put it on your TBR) I decided to check it out.

I’ve read before some books where the relationship started through the internet, but they were just books for you to read to distract yourself and have some fun, so I wasn’t expecting much more than that. So you can imagine what I felt when I started reading and got much more than I was expecting…

I seem to have trouble connecting to most MFC of the books I read, they are either way too perfect or have way too many flaws, none sound real to me. Mia sounds completely real. It was interesting to see her growth throughout the book. She starts as a very naive vision of life. She only sees what she wants to see and is happy with her life. Stranger is her total opposite, he sees the worst in people and don’t trust easily.

This book made me think of the lies we tell, the secrets we keep. We have this part of ourselves we don’t share for fear of being judge or hurting someone we love. We also only see what we want to see. Things that seem obvious and we pretend are not there. It’s easier to live like this. Is it wrong to ignore some hard facts in life, do we always have to seek the truth as difficult as it may be?

Even if you don’t care to any of these things I said and just want to read a well written book with scorching scenes, that’s ok, because Imogen can write her hots, that I can assure you!

I hope I convinced you to give this series a chance, it deserves to be read. ❤️

This is my first read by Imogen Keeper and I thoroughly enjoyed the slow burn love story that unraveled.

Mia has it all or so she thinks. Stranger doesn't need anything at all or so he thinks.

Mia's life is missing fun and adventure and true love. Stranger's life is missing love...period.

Hot talk, sexy fun flirting, and a mystery with a twist is what you'll get when reading this book. It's a stand alone and doesn't end on a cliffhanger but certain ends with the HEA we all know our sexy Stranger deserves, yea Mia too. ;)

Imogen's writing style is very contemporary and I love the fact that our MCs are both writers, in their own way. I enjoyed the text messages between our guy and gal. I'll definitely be reading Fight Dirty With Me in the near future.

This is my first book from this author. I really enjoyed the story. Mia has life planned out, but is hiding a secret from her loved ones. Stranger is living a half life, full of feelings of guilt about his brother. Taking a job to help his brother, Stranger is taken on an almost obsessive journey into Mia's world. I love the darker nature of the story. The characters are very engaging, the story line moves quick, but not so fast you cannot enjoy it. I love the chemistry between Mia and Stranger. I especially loved the twists and turns in the book. Great read.

OMGee!?! To Die For.😍😭👏❤

This story sucked me in from the start and didn't let up at all. Loved the push/pull between Mia & Stranger via text/phone/FaceTime and eventually in person. Reminded me of my past romances; without all the crazy drama, action, suspense and almost being assassinated by the guy you didn't know you were falling for! Don't pass this book up! Read it and enjoy yourself!😉 On to the next! #HappyReading 💖

These two are about as opposite as they can be. They start texting to each other. She is everything she seems to be. He hides what he is. He can't understand why he was hired to do what he was to her. Very intriguing, exciting, suspenseful story with lots of twists and turns. I loved how the story flowed and it keeps your attention. Oh my gosh, I love Stranger so much...he is seriously one of my favorite (anti)heroes of all time. He is a cold-blooded killer, and yet he manages to be so funny and charming and utterly swoon-worthy! His plan to win Mia over totally worked for me too! And Mia is such a ray of sunshine (love her parrot lamps and color everywhere!), while still coming across as sympathetic, with real doubts and questions and growth that made me relate to her so much.
The plot was great and kept me guessing - good people lie and nothing is what it seems on the surface. One beauty of this book is that you can read it on many different levels. On the surface, it's a fun, fast-paced suspenseful romance, but the metaphors for deeper themes are right there too (this is my second read and I feel like I got a lot more out of it this time). Family, following your passion and finding a person who really gets you are all right there to give you the feels.
I absolutely love this book and it will be one I reach for again and again!

I started this book because of all the hype and the great ratings. I thought it would be a fun read and a nice break while I was reading "The Reformatory." But honestly, this book SUCKED.

The reason behind Stranger's "job" was super cliché, and the insta-love was just too much. There were also a bunch of spelling mistakes, and some chapters were labeled "Mia" when they were actually from Stranger's perspective. The smut scenes felt like they were written by a kid writing fan fiction for the first time… like… I've read way better fan fiction as a kid, stories with similar plots where the emotional fallout was much more intense and believable (shout to Bryn and Jason from that infamous Justin Bieber fan fic).

The big reveal of the antagonist was random and totally anti-climactic.

I think this is one of the worst books I've read, right up there with Ali Hazlewood's books.

It was truly suspense! I kept suspecting different people, but always the wrong ones..
I liked the online getting to know flirty things.
What I didn't like and never like is the cheating.. For me that's just wrong, why hurt someone even more then neccesary? Just break up and then you can do whatever you want..
Also we didn't get much closure in sense of with the parents and all the ones involved, but that's maybe so you would read more.. Which isn't what i'm doing..

Just how you would want an internet romance to blossom. Sexy, fun and real.
Stranger, what a strange name, and Mia find plenty of HOT HOT HOT to go with their fun and witty banter between them. The first third of the book is a lot of chat room dialogue between the two, it is the type of conversation we all wish we were capable of. The main characters were just perfect for each other with off the charts chemistry. They seemed so different from each other, in their own minds, but they had their common interests to go with each of their unique personalities. There are plenty of secrets going around as well as trust issues that add to the drama. Very well done, a story bringing the two together while solving a mystery with a crazy stalker and a hitman who is forced to look a little deeper thanks to his brother James who was a great secondary character.
A read I could not put down and loved every word of it. Highly recommend.

I have never read anything by this author before, and I do not usually read romantic suspense or dark romance. I prefer contemporary romance, romantic comedy, new adult, and coming of age genres. But, having said all that, I sort of fell into this book by accident. I did not receive this book free - I paid for it. Given my reading tastes, one might guess that I would not give this book five stars. But this book left me pleasantly surprised. Here is my review.

First off, I have to say that the writing style (author "voice") is very good. That is a make or break issue for me. I have put many books down because of writing style. This author's style is clean. She is not excessively wordy. When it comes to description she gives just enough but not too much. There were no rambling passages that I find in so many other books and I usually skip. I liked the writing style right away, and soon became hooked on the plot. It pulled me. The heroine is quite naive at first, and I cringed that she became so involved with a stranger over the internet. The hero is an anti-hero. I did not like him at all at first. He was creepy. I wanted to shut my eyes, and at the same time I could not put the book down. I kept reading like I was racing to train wreck.

I have to hand it to this author, it is a very complicated plot. There is a mystery to solve, and after a while the heroine does not know who is is good or bad or trustworthy or poison. I think it is the mark of a good writer that she can take such a flawed hero and make the reader afraid of him in the beginning and love him at the end.

Wow, what a story. This is a good author and I'm glad I gave her a try. I will definitely read her books again in the future.

A Hitman and an erotica writer correspond

Talk Dirty To Me is the first book I have read by Imogen Keeper so I was not sure what to expect as you can just be sure when you read a "new to you" author. But the book description looked like it could be really interesting so I decided to grab a copy of it. This is the story of Mia and Stranger. They end up in a very unconventional relationship because of the hidden reason that Stranger first connects with Mia. He is a hitman who has been hired to kill her in six months. As she is a "normal" person and not someone bad he decides to find out more about her and then also who hired him and why. Mia is twenty-seven and a college graduate who now writes dark erotica books. Stranger connects with Mia initially via on-line in a writers site. Their chats become more and more sexual and erotic. But they also share more about themselves. Eventually they meet and things become more explosive and even more complicated for Stranger.
I found the book to be well written and engaging. I did think there were areas that slowed down to a crawl and maybe a bit more editing could tighten the story up and also condense it a bit. But with that being said I would still recommend this book and also look forward to reading other books by this author.

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

This is the first book by this author that I have read. If this is anything to go by, I can't wait to get ahold of more of her work. This story was one that I started after everyone went to bed, thinking I'd grab a few chapters before bed, but, before I knew it the night had passed and I was still reading when the sun came up. I loved this one. Mia is an erotic author who's engaged to a man she'd known for years. She believes that her life is perfect, the perfect man, the perfect wedding coming up in a few months time, everything is just perfect, until one night she meets a stranger called Stranger on her writer's group, the two strike up a friendship that seems to progress further. Mia finds out that her perfect life isn't anywhere near as perfect as she'd thought.
