The wolves of Sapphire Ranch...
Can the mated humans and wolf shifters of Sapphire Ranch navigate their lives and new love, through a world of hunters, danger, and betrayal?

Sheriff and Protector, working together to save Sapphire Ranch. If only they could think about the job and not each other.

Sheriff Milo Clark has always kept his identity as a wolf shifter hidden from everyone. But when the head of a security firm, Eli, arrives in town to help protect Sapphire Ranch from the dangerous human hunters, Milo finds himself inexplicably drawn to the handsome man and it doesn’t take long to realize that Eli is his fated mate. Finding his mate is the last thing he needs.

Shifters, mates, bullets that dissolve a man. Eli has seen strange things in his time, but nothing like the world he’s in now. It doesn’t help that he’s completely distracted by the local lawman. When he should be focused on helping the shifter packs, instead he’s thinking about Milo.

As they work together to keep the wolves safe, their connection grows stronger. With the threat of the hunters looming, can Milo and Eli navigate their new love while keeping everyone they care about safe?

Hidden Mate is the second book in the ‘Sapphire Ranch Wolves’ series. This stars Sheriff Milo Clark, a half-wolf shifter, and Eli, head of The Calvary security firm. This is told in third person from Milo’s pov.

The blurb gives a light rundown of the plot, because it doesn’t really have much of a plot. It has events happening, but there’s no headway made on the hunters that are hunting the shifters. There’s a secondary subplot of a troubled teenaged boy that isn’t relevant to the shifter plot. I would’ve liked to read more about the hunter and shifter situation, but that’s barely touched. This book is mostly about the developing relationship between Milo and Eli and how many times they can have sex in the story. There must have been about five to six full sex scenes and a few more fade to black. The plot would’ve been more interesting if there was far less sex, and more investigation into the hunters. Instead, readers are fed a couple more mysterious incidents that need to be explained, and at the end of the book, readers get a tiny bit of information answered that cropped up in the first book. For me, this was just about sex, and Milo trusting his deputy enough to reveal he was a werewolf and that he was gay.

As to the characters, Milo was okay, as was Eli. They had a more equal relationship than Joe and Cal in the first book. Although Eli would probably have been considered ‘Alpha’ if he was in a wolf pack.

Hidden Mate was an okay read. I didn’t like it as much as I did the first book because this story revolved too much on Eli and Milo having sex, also teenager troubles rather than the hunter mystery and who’s backing the Calvary to hunt down the hunters. I have a suspicion the author probably won’t go into detailed answers covering those topics in the next book either. Most likely they’ll be glossed over. As to this story, I give it a low 3 Stars. I didn’t find it as satisfying to read as the first book.

I received an ARC from the author. I am giving my honest and unbiased opinion.

This short book took way too long for me to finish but that's because the plot didn't interest me at all. I cared nothing for Eli or Milo. I wanted to read this book because I wanted to learn more about Cal's family. I thought all his brothers were dead but some of the women and children were alive so why does he have a brother that's alive now? Why do we care about that drunk kid? What does he have to do with the story? The mayor is described as evil and Milo is supposed to meet with him and then we don't get the scene and the story jumps to the epilogue.

This was a stupid story with too much uninspired sex and I won't be continuing the series.

As gripping as the first volume, this sequel about the men living at Sapphire Ranch is emotionally intense and action-packed. Joe and Cal from book one are back, but the focus is on Eli—the man from the security firm trying to protect the wolves against the brutal hunters, and Milo—the local sheriff who is a half-wolf and has lots of secrets to hide if he wants the unsuspecting humans to reelect him. The hunters are as brutal as before, maybe even worse; they definitely step up their game. Eli and Milo may struggle as a couple, but more because they’re forced into a long-distance relationship than due to not being good together. The heat between them is intense, but they have quite a few obstacles to overcome.

Milo is a good man, a good sheriff, but he has too many secrets to be happy. He wants to be with Eli, as does his wolf, but he’s not out. If he wants to keep his job, he can’t come out, and nobody can find out he’s a shifter either. His deputy suspects something is going on, and Milo has to work hard to keep him guessing. In the end it comes down to Milo making a decision about what is most important in his life and I think the compromise he decides on is a step in the right direction.

Eli isn’t happy about the long-distance relationship, but he has a company and a job to do. Protecting Cal and Joe is turning out to be a full-time job, and figuring out how to deal with the hunters takes time and effort as well. I liked how supportive Eli is despite the fact it takes Milo some time to work through the implications of being gay and having a boyfriend. The mate bond between them is strong though, and it helps them deal with the world to know that, just between the two of them, there is no question about what they mean to each other.

If you liked the first book and want to find out how the guys at Sapphire Ranch are doing, if a human and a half-wolf together sound implausible but intriguing, and if you’re looking for a read that is as suspenseful as it is hot, then you will probably like this novella. I definitely did and look forward to the next installment.

Actual 4.5 Star Rating!!!

The Hidden Wolf (Sapphire Ranch Wolves book 2) by Sue Brown!!!

Sheriff Milo and his mate Eli, are in a long-distance relationship which they're finding quite challenging. Eli is running the Calvary which is a security firm. Eli, Milo and his wolf are having a difficult time with being so far from each other and the fact that Milo won't shift is not making it any easier for the guys.

I love the connection between Milo and Eli right from the start it was so cool how Eli had no problems being with the wolf. I love the twist that they communicate without speaking as it added a great paranormal element to the story. I felt bad for Milo for not telling his staff he's gay as it's causing himself some internal turmoil but Eli patiently stands by his mates side.

I enjoyed the sub-characters of Cal and Joe. I was like, oh great the wolf shifter hunters and they are still on the hunt for Cal. Joe the beautiful character he is, won't let anything happen to his mate but things are getting too dangerous for them so they seek protection. I really hope there's a third book as this story didn't have as much detail about Milo and Eli's relationship and somethings are left unanswered.

I really enjoyed this paranormal shifter novel by Sue Brown and she never disappoints. How she takes the reader into a world of shifters and makes it so realistic is basically some great writing. Her eye for detail was so spot on and really puts you into this amazing paranormal world. I love the main characters of Milo and Eli and how they were developed so brilliantly that I instantly felt a connection with them. This was a fun and beautiful story and it flows so beautifully that I was sad when it was over. I recommend....The Hidden Wolf by Sue Brown to anyone who loves a good paranormal M/M shifter novel. You won't be disappointed at all!!!!

Sheriff Milo Clarke is the in the awkward position of having to omit facts from his police department whilst he helps clean up the mess left by the hunters at the Sapphire Ranch. Not only do his work colleagues not know he is gay they also have no idea he is a werewolf or that such creatures even exist. Working alongside him at the ranch is a group of men from the Cavalry, a security firm that is looking after Cal and Joe, and Eli who runs it happens to be Milo’s mate.

Although Milo and his wolf recognise their mate immediately that is not the case for Eli who is human but thankfully he is drawn towards the other man and the attraction is very much mutual. Milo is elated at finding his mate even though it is going to make things more difficult in the long run when it comes to him keeping secrets however he is not at all happy that Eli is just visiting their small town for work and has to return home to run his business. Milo’s wolf is even less happy and is pushing to come out and run more and more.

Long distance relationships are never easy but all is not lost when they can talk through their telepathic connection. This is still not enough for Milo or his wolf and both are getting pretty antsy by the time Eli returns.

There are more attacks by the hunters and Eli ends up split more and more between two locations. Joe’s father is still dying but hopefully there will be some resolution to that situation in the next book. Things are left very unsettled between Milo and Eli so hopefully they will also find an answer to all their problems in book 3 as well.

Four stars!
This was a good continuation of the shifter and hunter storyline. You learned more about what was going on and some backstory on characters introduced in the first book. There are still a handful of unanswered questions that will likely be addressed in the next book. I’m truly enjoying the series so far. I liked that Milo had to find the balance between his wolf and human side. By the end of the book he finally figured it out. Eli and Milo are so good together. I want to see them figure out their future and how that will work. Since we see some of the same characters again, I’m confident we’ll see it in future books in the series. It was brought up that wolf shifters can turn humans into shifters since Milo and Eli discussed doing that briefly. I’m interested how that’s going to go. I want to know who the next wolf is and I’m curious about Joe Senior’s friend they may have found. So want to know!

This is very much a sequal to the last wolf. It felt like some chapters of a longer narrative. I do hope Sue Brown continues this series. I liked it so much, that I poked around goodreads and the internet a bit, looking for the next book. I hope she releases it soon.

2.5⭐️ rounded up

Unfortunately not nearly as fun as book 1 for me. I could never get invested in Eli and Milo’s relationship. They accept that they’re soulmates in the first chapter and immediately jump into bed and into a relationship. The only conflict in getting together is that they keep on having to go long distance. I don’t need a super slow burn but it does take some of the fun out it to have no conflict or angst when they get together. Overall, it just became a struggle to push through when I wasn’t overly invested in the romance aspect of the book (thankfully these are very short books).

On the bright side, it does seem that the questions I wanted answered from book 1 will eventually get answered and that’s pretty much the only reason I pushed through this one. Fingers crossed that book 3 is an improvement

Milo and Eli, an half-wolf sheriff and a human security guy. Their mating bond is evident to both of them as soon as they meet, but while Milo understands what it is immediately, Eli has no clue shifters even exist; it just takes Milo shifting in front of him to convince him. After that they are pretty much a done thing, though work commitments and the need to stay hidden from the shifter hunters keep them physically separate, they are always together communicating through their mating bond.
While the overall storyline goes on and various subplots in the series start to thicken and merge, we have a satisfying HFN for Eli and Milo. Granted, there are still things to discuss and loose threads to fix, but the two mates are on the right path to their forever happiness.
On to book three to see how it all turns out!

These characters had me intrigued from the first book in this series so I was thrilled to see Milo and Eli here in their own book. Milo has hidden his wolf half for years as well as his preference for men. Eli is part of protecting the Sapphire Ranch so he has to get used to things quickly. And Eli is too much to hide. The man can definitely take care of himself. Now this story is a republished version of an older book so parts are a bit dated but it is still good. It is definitely worth a read. Please read Hunted Mate first so you can meet these characters in full context. They are meant to be read in order.

Great addition to the collection. Must be read in order because Joe and Cal feature quite heavily in here and the storyline probably won’t make much sense otherwise.

Can’t wait for the next one.

I struggled with the first book in this series not connecting with the writing, but I enjoyed this one much better and found the writing more engaging for my taste. The characters are interesting and the story a compelling one. The books are kind of short which makes me wonder if maybe the brevity of them is what I'm struggling with.

Loved how the first book flowed into this second one. I was wondering if Milo would get a maté being half wolf but Eli came when called to help. With the hunter’s breathing down their throat and Eli traveling I was wondering if something bad was going to happen. It kept me on my toes.

Milo has kept him being a shifter a secret for a long time. With the threat to the shifters escalating, Eli is in town to offer aid.
But, Eli is Milos mate and he can’t hide his true nature anymore.

An engaging read which has a continuing story arc from the first book, elements of danger, fated mates and leaves you excited for the next book. 3.5 stars for me overall.

This series has to be read in order and the books in it can’t be read as standalones, and while each of the books focuses mostly on the main pairing, other people in the books get their fair share of attention.

The Hidden Wolf is the continuation of the story, and even if it’s not as action-packed as the first one, it’s still quite good.

Milo Clarke has been hiding that he’s a half shifter and gay for far too long. He’s a Sheriff in a small town in Texas, which isn’t exactly an incentive to come out. But after meeting Eli on the previous book and finding out he’s his mate, things are about to change. And change they certainly did.

Eli is Joe’s friend that we also met on book 1, he’s full Alpha even if he’s a human and I love that he can definitely hold his own and be all sweet and naughty to Milo at the same time.

Eli and Milo are drawn together by the mate pull, but they also are really well suited together. They are pretty much equals in everything, which makes for an interesting pairing, never mind that they are very hot together.

I loved that Sue Brown managed to involve several persons in one scene and not have me all confused as to whom she was referring to in one part or another and I was impressed, especially on the second book, that she could have several strong willed characters and that they could work together as well as they did.

Also adored that while Eli and Milo are the main pairing, the Author also shows us what Joe and Callum from the first book have been up to. She doesn’t do this by giving them ‘air time’, so to speak, but through Eli and Milo’ s eyes. This works especially well since the main plotline regarding the hunters and the repercussions after killing one of the heads of that operation start coming to light. I also loved meeting more of The Cavalry’s members, they are quite interesting and can’t wait to read more of them in the future as the plot continues to unravel in book 3, which can’t come soon enough. Can it be Autumn already, pretty please? I can’t wait to find out what’s going to happen now.

Review Request: The Hidden Wolf (Sapphire Ranch Wolves Book 2)

Review by: multitaskingmomma
My Rating: 4 of 5 Stars

For Sexy Shifter Lovers

The wait is over and finally, I got my hands on another sexy shifter in the form Sheriff Milo Clarke. Now, that first one, it ended banging hanging and Milo looking into the activities of a clean up. That is when this story opens, with Milo looking in, hiding the truth from authorities and realizing that one of those Cavalry called in by Joe Lowther is none other than his mate. The good news is, Eli is looking right back at him and not in the least bit anxious about him being a mate. That is the good news. The bad news is: Eli has to go work somewhere else and Milo stays right where he is. Hundreds of miles apart. Thankfully, their mate bond works great and they can talk to each other without the need for technology.

To add angst to this romance: Milo is kinda scared to shift, even ignoring his wolf. Why? Well, he has his reasons. His refusal to tell his staff he is gay is another angst that he thinks is complicating his life. In the meanwhile, Eli patiently stands by his side and mind, coming in when he could to be with his lover and is uber understanding. Almost too good to be true. In fact, I think Eli is too good for Milo for there was a point I just wanted to slap some sense into him.

Unfortunately for this book, nothing left unresolved in the first finds a resolution. The need to up and move is important but Joe's father is dying, has been dying since the first book. His days are numbered and Eli continues to look for the lost friend who may just have the answer they are all seeking. Again, this ends hanging, but this time, there is no frustration. There is only a feeling of anxiety of what the next book will reveal.

As for Eli and Milo, well, they are good, for now. How they will resolve the issue of moving or whatever decision they reach will be found in book three... In the meantime, the hidden wolf will have to remain hidden.

To be continued...

I do love this series! Special ops, cops in uniform, ranchers, shifters, assassins, gay MCs, confused gay teenagers, fated mates, it’s all here. The Hidden Wolf picks up where The Last Wolf, book 1 of the Sapphire Ranch series, left off. Joe Sr, the owner of Sapphire Ranch is in the hospital and not doing well. His son, Joe Jr, who never planned to run the ranch is still there but now with his werewolf mate. And the group that wants to eradicate all werewolves from the planet is still out there with their terrible weapons and horrible plans.
Milo is a sheriff with a double enigma. He is a werewolf who hasn’t shifted in years and therefore isn’t on the radar of the assassins. But his friend Cal is. Milo has called in the Cavalry, a security company headed by Eli, who turns out to be more to Milo than just an agent. The sex between them is hotter than hot but is it just sex? Eli wants more but he lives and works in another city and Milo doesn’t want to leave his town and job. Milo hates the mayor and that is going to factor into his decision whether to remain on the job or follow Eli.
While everyone is trying to find the cutthroat shifter murderers before they can kill Cal (and possibly Milo, although they don’t know about his inner wolf yet), a troubled teenager begins taking up the sheriff’s staff’s time and energy. Constantly in trouble, drinking, and overly protected by his mother, Benny keeps a deep secret to himself but it is killing him to be unable to just be who he is.
When Milo finally shifts and goes for a run with Cal, it is thrilling and freeing for both shifters but who or what did they see in the bushes?
While The Hidden Wolf follows up on The Last Wolf, nothing is truly resolved by the end. I wouldn’t call it a cliffhanger but there are many pieces of the puzzle that need to fall into place and undisclosed mysteries that will have to be resolved in order to give everyone a true HEA. Stay tuned to the next book in the Sapphire Ranch Wolves series. There may be another wolf shifter out there waiting to tell us his story, if the assassins don’t get to him first.

4 Heart Review by Kimberley

This is part two of the Sapphire Ranch series and gives us Milo, the local town’s sheriff and Eli, the head of an elite private security company. Milo discovered that Eli was his mate while protecting Cal from the hunters. Milo is used to hiding himself away from everyone, his wolf and his sexuality which is the reason behind his loneliness.

This book was quite an enjoyable read. Of course that has to do with it featuring some of my favorite elements: shifters and hot, sexy men. I love that these characters were both strong and stubborn; Eli is just the type of man Milo needed because Eli refused to let him hide. If it wasn’t for Eli, poor Milo would still be lonely and repressed and in the closet. The characters as well as the dialogue was pretty well written. No twinks in this one.

I am really looking forward to seeing where this story will take me. The first two books didn’t have a HEA ending nor was anything really resolved but this is fine because Ms. brown didn’t leave any unnecessary cliffhangers. I want to know who is financing the hunters? Who are the people who procured the services of Eli’s private security firm to take on the hunters? How did the hunters discover the existence of shifters? I felt that a HEA ending with so much going on in reference to the hunters would’ve been unrealistic so the HFN ending fit in perfectly.

This series is two books in and the characters, plot and story lines are quite entertaining. This is a series that I will definitely continue to follow. I am really looking forward to seeing what happens next.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

As far as sequels go, I really enjoyed The Hidden Wolf and found that there was a cohesiveness in the storyline from the first book to this one, which tells me that Brown must have a good idea of where the story is going as well as the timeline for each book. I will admit that unlike with The Last Wolf, I was taken aback by the sudden ending and *stomps feet* want to know what happens next.

We first met Milo and Eli in the first book and saw their initial meeting from an outside perspective. We really get to know the guys so much better in their story, especially their individual traits, both good and not so good. Two Alpha males of any species are bound to butt heads, and they do! Now one thing I noticed is the “fucking like bunnies” behavior, and although Milo and Eli telepathically teased and tasted each other all the time, I did not often feel the chemistry between them. Perhaps it is because they used the mate bond to communicate with each other that there was a feeling of disconnect, I’m not sure.

The writing during the high action segments was a little frantic and hard to follow, although given that there was telepathic, cell phone, and live conversations all happening at the same time, I guess it was to be expected. I also found that “time stood still” and there was a lack of movement in that regard around the middle of the book. I mean it may have been off by 30-45 minutes, but the lack of continuity was noticeable.

Sheriff Milo gets his story and a mate. Too bad his mate is human, lives in another city, and neither are ready to give up their current lives.

Milo and Eli connect immediately and Eli has no problems with being mated to a wolf. As a matter of fact, he seems to play a more dominant role, which really surprised me. Milo has spent so much time denying his wolf that I guess it really shouldn’t have.

The hunters are still on the trail of killing off wolf shifters…including Cal. Joe is still determined to do everything in his power to keep his mate safe, but things get a little too close for comfort, so they agree to have a bodyguard as protection. This was a really low key story considering the topic, and it really just touched on the Milo/Eli relationship and the wolf hunters. I am assuming another book is in the works because neither topic was concluded. As a matter of fact, I was kind of surprised when the story ended.

So yes, it was kind of slow and the storyline only moved forward a little bit, but it is still an interesting premise, and I will be reading on to the see how this plays out. I definitely want to see how Milo and Eli decide to progress their relationship as I think it was left a little unsettled and I was left wanting to know more.

This book picks up where the last one left off so I do suggest you read these in order.
Milo is struggling with Eli leaving, his wolf wanting to be free again and hiding not only being a shifter at work but being gay.
There is still a lot going on in this book we get a bit more Cal and Joe though the focus is on Milo and Eli. I really liked Milo and Eli a lot. Their dynamics with each other are simply explosive. I love the way the mates can speak to each other in their minds and send graphic images this gets a bit hot.
I did have a couple issues with this one. There were so many loose ends left dangling. I do know it’s a series, but it felt like nothing was settled and there was no hint at a next book. There were little things happened like the lady bringing a casserole to the ranch when Cal was injured. I thought that was going to lead to something, but it was just brushed aside. I wanted to know so much and then bam it just ended. I will say I liked the ending with Milo and Eli. It was very sexy and a satisfying ending for the romance aspect of the book.
If you like Shifters, werewolves, men in uniform(hot local sheriffs), special ops and some hot man-sex this is for you.
