ALEKS After my divorce, I'm ready to have fun, date around, and not get into anything serious. Then I meet Gabe Crosby, superhero firefighter and a disgrace to the Crosby name. He doesn't even like hockey! Yet, there's a draw to him I can't deny-something I haven't felt since my teens. But that's the problem. I have no idea what dating is like, let alone how to do it with another man. He makes me flakey and nervous, and I've never been that guy. Gabe turns me inside out and upside down in the best possible ways. I only recently became single, but if I continue to chase after him, I might not stay that way for long.
GABE When I meet Aleksander Emerson during an emergency call-out, there are three things that catch my attention: his sexy tattoos, his kind eyes, and his drunken offer to have my babies. He's new to Seattle and recently divorced, so I take him under my wing-and under my sheets. I'm showing him what the world of hookups is like, only those hookups turn into sleepovers and dates and public displays of jealousy. Aleks is in his casual era, and I'm working my way toward settling down and starting a family. What the two of us have is fun, but not a good idea permanently. Too bad Aleks has already set my life on fire.
"Gabe understanding that side of me, him getting along with my friends and vice versa...the more time Gabe and I spend together, the more he fits into that perfect-for-me box. He's everything I want and everything I didn't expect."
Unpopular Opinion:
So it seems like one other person rated this book 3 stars aside from me and well here we are. I thought after Oskar's boring story this would be the one to have me excited but it turns out that is not the case. In fact, it seems I am the odd woman out and everyone loved this book and that is okay. I am happy for you. I wish I could say the same.
This book wasn't bad by any means I just wasn't vibing with it. Maybe it's my slump. Maybe it's my period that has me raging like a psychotic bitch from pain or maybe it is something else. Who knows at this point because I don't either.
Let's skip my antics and get to the story.
Aleks we met in the third book, Oskar's story blah blah. He is recently divorced and is out as a pansexual. Love that for him. A free man that can explore what he has been missing out on. Free from Rebecca's shackles (his ex-wife), Aleks wants to explore the field. Men/women whatever floats for our boy. We want him to win. Yas sis go get it. His homies want him to fuck around and play the field but that isn't who Aleks is. He is monogamous. He was married for 10 years for crying out loud. He tries the fuckboy fiasco with the fake dating of the models (female) his annoying PR guy Frank sets up for him but it's just not who Aleks is. Frank needed to stop making fetch happen and well let's say things went smoothly after he stopped meddling.
After he meets our other MC, Gabe, a smexy firefighter who is originally introduced in the Husband Hoax, Aleks forgot about the female population altogether. Gabe and his dick energy were just hard to ignore. I mean who can blame Aleks, the authors had me at firefighter. Their initial meet-up is cute af but everything that happens after that is where the authors lost me.
The attraction and lust between Gabe and Aleks was fine and realistic but the I love yous and the sex was too fast-paced for me to enjoy the development between the characters. Compared to the other characters in this universe I found Aleks quite boring tbh. He was all about his hockey and aside from hockey he had no personality. Gabe I liked. He seemed to be the adult in their relationship. He was reasonable and not here for the bs. He was no doormat. I enjoyed the way the authors wrote him. My only complaint is that there was really not much said about his background. We know about him having a hard upbringing and being in the system but that is it. Had the authors made more effort on his backstory, there would have been more angst and depth to his character.
I also liked the subplot with the firefighter crew, I am happy to know that Sanden is getting his own story. So something to look forward to I guess.
I wish I liked this story more but it was just okay. Gabe carried this story and Aleks felt like a supporting character in his own story. Their sex scenes were just not doing it for me. I don't know maybe it's my period making me sound like a snotty bitch but in general, this was an okay story and that's that. If you enjoy low angst this might do it for you.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Foolish Puckboy is book four in the Puckboys series by Eden Finley and Saxon James. I’ve had this on my Kindle for awhile. It took me a bit to get to it but I finally did and really enjoyed it. This is Alek’s and Gabe’s book and you’re going to love these two.
Aleksander (Aleks) Emerson is twenty eight years old and is a pro hockey player. He has been married to the same woman that was his high school sweetheart but they are now divorced. He was traded to Seattle and recently came out as pansexual. Aleks has no idea how to navigate the dating world. But according to all his single friends, now is the time he’s supposed to hook up with people, live the free single life and explore his sexuality. He’s looking forward to doing that when he figures out how! Then, when a party with the Queer Collective gets out of hand and the fire department is called, Gabe walks in and his life is turned upside down.
Gabe Crosby is a fire fighter and is openly gay. He loves his job and doesn’t care for sports at all. He has no idea who Aleks is or his friends when they are called to his party. They are completely opposite. Gabe hopes to eventually settle down. He wants a future partner he can depend on. He has no interest in hockey. Aleks needs to enjoy the single life, and his career keeps him away more than at home as they travel for games. How could they ever work? Only the chemistry between them is crazy. And Aleks needs someone to show him how it can be being with a man. So maybe they can just enjoy each other temporarily?
These two had the funniest meet cute! The Queer Collective guys are crazy! It’s obvious right away how strong their attraction is and I loved how Gabe helped Aleks with his confidence. I also want to mention that Gabe has a found family of his own, several men he used to share a house with before he moved out and got a place of his own. One of them, Christian, has his own book, The Husband Hoax by Saxon James, that I loved, so make sure you check that out.
This book was fun and sweet and so sexy. Both of these guys had to learn to navigate their feelings for each other and yes, there were a couple of stumbles. But I do want to add that there is no huge third act break up. They actually talked things out. And that alone makes this book worth reading. Also, another side note, these two authors have a stand alone coming up soon for Gabe’s friend in the fire house, Sanden, called Up In Flames. I just added it to my to read list. So make sure you check that out too!
My first case of proof that sometimes re-reading is not a great idea because you may not feel the same as you did the first time. Because this book was sure as hell less enjoyable this time around 😭
But how did I not notice that they were like.... "Okay, lets move slow" THEN ARE FILTHY TEXTING AND SEXUAL INUENDO-ING ALL OVER THE PLACE AND BEING SUPER FORWARD TO THE POINT OF LIKE.... bro, fucking chill out within 5 minutes. Nah ah.
I still loved the dynamic of the recently divorced man, and the fireman. Hot. Undeniably great idea. And the book still fits in theme with the series, sex is hot, whatever. xoxo
It was hilarious, happy, fun, and sweet. Just overall a very good reading experience.
The opening scene with the collective was so funny and set the tone for the whole book. Loved both Gabe and Aleks and all the familiar faces that popped up.
The Puckboys just feel like home, they're some of my absolute favourite characters, especially Oskar. So, so happy to see more of Asher, his and Kole's book was my favourite CU Hockey story, but I always want more 😂 I'd love it if Beck and Jacobs showed up somewhere too - or basically every character because I miss them all!
I really liked Gabe and Aleks together and just how keen they were to spend time together, they felt really wholesome except when Gabe's dirty talk got going 🥵 The end with the house just made my heart squeeze! I loved the kiss cam with Madden too, I could just picture the reactions of the rest of the Collective when Aleks went caveman 😂.
I think my favourite thing about Eden and Saxon's books is that they don't take themselves too seriously and they're really fun reads - if I need a good lighthearted escape read their books are always top of my list.
Excited for the next one and I really love how this story universe keeps expanding.
This was sweet, cute and hot, although it wasn’t as intense as I expected. This book had a strong start and I like it. After reading an insta lust, this felt almost refreshing.
I now come to terms that books with hookups before dates are simply not my thing. It made it seems unbelievable to me and sex is just so overrated for my liking. Don’t get me wrong, the sex scenes were okay and tolerable for me. Aleks and Gabe really took their time to get to know each other and they bonded over that so well. But yeah, hookup culture in books…not me.
So, this book didn’t quite hit all of my romance buttons.
The writing was just as expected, that I’m used to by a LOT, and I think I need a break. It’s getting a bit repetitive for me. I dont feel the spark with this authors anymore. If this was my first by them, then this would be an easy 4 already.
I didn’t like the first walking-out-from-the-kiss-scene and didn’t quite like the kiss cam thingy either. Almost like a revenge trope? Idk whats it called, but I thought they’re so much mature than that. They got sweeter near the end though.
So yeah, this was only mid.
Aleks is pansexual, but if you’re looking into some kind of backstory or deeper representation of the sexuality, dont get your hopes up. It’s quite typical these books don’t ever focused on that. But it’s quite progressive that ace and demi is being mentioned :)
Anyway, this was fine. Nothing memorable. I loved Dex and Tripp’s story the best. I won’t ever touch Oskar’s book though. lmao.
*** I reviewed a complimentary copy of this book***
Foolish Puckboy is the latest in the Puckboys series and I had so much fun with this story. Aleks and Gabe are so endearingly sweet together and I really enjoyed their romance. Aleks is shy about starting anything new after his divorce and Gabe is not looking for anything too serious. They are both surprised at the intensity of their attraction and find themselves falling head over heels for one another.
This series is mostly low-angst and has great moments with previous main characters that make for such a fun series. Overall I really enjoyed this entry and look forward to the next one and seeing all of these hilarious characters interact again.
yeah i didn’t love this one as much as the others. i didn’t care for aleks before and i don’t care for him now. i liked his nervousness at the beginning but he overcame it so easily, it left me a bit disappointed. gabe was more interesting but i feel like we only got to know him on a surface level. his dirty talk was A+, but the sex scenes were kind of boring somehow, that left me confused. it’s cute, i’m not saying it’s bad, but it could have been so much more.
also, i absolutely love cameos, but we have four worlds clashing here, that’s a bit too much. i was playing catch up and trying to remember who was who, whose book is that and who will be in the next series. like, give me a break. (but they got bonus points for zach.)
(initial reaction: i feel like i need to go to church after seeing this cover)
Without any doubt my favourite one so far in what's been an outstanding series in which I've fallen in love with each pairing every time.
This one though also crosses over with Saxon's new Accidental Love series in which we first met firefighter Gabe Crosby and that, for me, just capped it off to stick it at the top of my favourite tree (so far!)
Aleks has just got divorced, come out as pansexual and is looking forward to exploring his options when a drunken evening with the rest of the Queer Collective results in the fire service being called out and his path crossing with Gabe's.
I'd already fallen for Gabe's charms following his appearance in The Husband Hoax and I was so glad to see my initial thoughts of him were correct. Gabe is a good man, he's ended up a firefighter not through choice but he loves his job and he's good at it.
He's also not a sports fan and has no clue who Aleks is when he comes storming out into his garden carrying a bucket of water, wearing a flapper dress and drunkenly declaring he wants to have the stripper fireman's babies
This scene had me smiling from the off and the great sense of fun just carries on from that point as the zing between them is undeniable. What starts out as Gabe agreeing to help Aleks through his gay sexual awakening rapidly turns into more as they discover a connection that sparks all kinds of wants.
They date and it's ridiculously cute seeing them both try to "one-up" each other for the epicness of the activities they go on.
The sex is smoking, there's something super sweet and insanely hot about Aleks' willingness to learn and his quick desire to put it all into practice and I very much appreciated seeing the usual madcap antics of the Queer Collective, Ezra and Oskar of course leading the way, as they did as much to hinder as help the two men sort out their future.
Thankfully there's very little angst in this, a couple of moments of rightful fear and worries, a small misunderstood half conversation towards the end of the story, which isn't overly dramatised and which is relatively quickly sorted out, and some honest conversation between them, make this a really enjoyable read.
This obviously has a HEA, the narrative working its way to a very satisfying forward-looking outcome which you can see holding strong for life. There's a wonderful Epilogue and I'm dying to find out all about Gabe's best work partner Sanden's romance and seeing what's happening with the Queer Collective's newest arrival, Ayri Quinn.
#ARC kindly received from the authors via Foreward PR in return for an honest and unbiased review.
Another wholesome addition to the CU universe, with a few crossovers for those familiar with Eden and Saxon’s other books.
When you start reading one of their books, you kind of know what to expect: 2 characters, at least one of them with ties to the hockey world, banter, hot sex scenes, and A LOT of supportive queer friends who either already had a book or are set up for one of the following books (or series).
This book is a crossover: we have Gabe, who’s a firefighter, and whom we remember from Émile and Christian’s book (he’s one of Christian’s roommates who live in “Big Bertha”, see: The Husband Hoax). And we have Aleks, who recently got divorced from his high school sweetheart, a hockey player who’s friends with Oskar (and the others from the “queer hockey collective”).
As you can guess, we have a lot of friends popping in and out, so at some point I’d appreciate a map of all the couples and books, because sometimes it’s hard to keep track on who’s who, especially if it’s been a while since you’ve read them.
The story itself is cute and wholesome: Aleks is attracted to Gabe (and vice versa) when Gabe turns up at his house because of a fire incident. Aleks isn’t very experienced, seeing as his ex was the only person he’s ever been with, and Gabe agrees to tutor him in all thighs gay.
It’s… cute. Refreshingly different from the other puckboy books, especially as Gabe isn’t a hockey fan. It isn’t a book that will stay with me for a long while, but it’s perfect to read if you’re in need of something that isn’t too taxing.
Note for fellow audiobook lovers: as Eden and Saxon still go for that Alexander Cendese /Iggy Toma combo, i skipped it - as much as I love listening to Iggy, I long ago gave up on Alexander Cendese - I know he’s kind of ok for jock-characters, but he really gets on my nerves.
Aleks is just out of a divorce and out as pansexual. When he meets Gabe the attraction is instant. A first kiss that starts out fire but ends in a fumble as Aleks gets overwhelmed by the new experience. They then strike up a romantic relationship where Gabe will show Aleks the ropes of man on man action.
I was enjoying Foolish Puckboy well enough but then the scene where the above quote takes place happened and things went full throttle. I loved every second thereafter. Aleks and Gabe finally stopped pretending that their relationship was just casual. It was claimy in a non toxic or manipulative way (ok maybe it was a lil bit but the scene was perfect).
Some of my favourite scenes are where Aleks and Gabe introduce each other to their friend group. It was super cosy.
Can't wait for Sanden's book gets released!
I feel like a teenage girl at a Harley Valentine concert - Love the Pop Star easter egg!!
4.5 Finley and James is the partnership that never disappoints.
“touch my boyfriend and see what happens” 🫠 here lies Mariah. she read a lot of books.
Pick this up when you have the time to finish it, because once you do you won’t be able to put it down - at least if you’re anything like me.
Aleks and Gabe are so compelling as individuals and when you put them together little magic happens. If you’re deep into the EdenSaxonVerse you can expect the full Collective treatment in this one. What I wouldn’t give to be in that group chat.
I loved the (not so reluctant) way these two fell for each other and the A+ dirty talk was a nice surprise. This was probably my personal favorite in the series so far. I'm so excited to see where these two take us next! I heard we might be headed somewhere scorching 👨🏻🚒🔥
At this point, you can completely expect what you will get picking up a Eden Finley and Saxon James book. It’s not necessarily a bad thing when you just want to jump into a comfort zone.
That’s exactly what this book was for me, it was fun and the friend group dynamics was entertaining without being too involved in the main couples love life.
I loved the Collective appearances in the book, probably the funniest moments in the series so far happen in Foolish Puckboy. As for the relationship, Aleks & Gabe are pretty cute, but something just didn’t click for me like it did with the past couples.
I will say Gabe has a filthy mouth and I LOVED that
Gabe and Aleks had me looking at my Kindle like 🥰🥰🥰
Foolish Puckboy is the newest installment in the fun Puckboy series by Eden Finley and Saxon James. This time we follow newly-divorced Aleks and firefighter Gabe, who both have different outlooks on life, but still end up in each other's paths again and again. Unsurprisingly, this book was a lot of fun with cringe-worthy, but hilarious moments, interspersed with sweet and heart-melting interactions.
Aleks and Gabe's chemistry is instantaneous, and while neither can deny their attraction to the other, Aleks is more hesitant to pursue it. Since he married his high school sweetheart, he's never had a relationship outside of his wife, and he's a little unsure of where to start, or even if he wants something serious so soon. So Gabe, being the empathetic guy he is, promises to slow things down and take it at Aleks's pace.
Even though Aleks wants to take things slowly, though, he can't deny his ever growing feelings for Gabe the more they hang out with each other. I absolutely loved their relationship! Because they decide to start out slow, we get to see them build a strong base of friendship that they slowly build upon romantically. Which I am a sucker for. These two are so sweet! They genuinely care for each other and want the best for the other. They plan extravagant dates and spend time doing what the other loves because it makes them happy. The affection Aleks and Gabe show to each other had my heart melting! They are so tender and wholesome and I loved them.
Not gonna lie, it took me a moment to realize that we've seen Gabe before (in the Husband Hoax by Saxon James), but the moment he said he had five crazy ex-roommates it clicked for me. I was so excited to get a cameo of Gabe's roommates since I loved their chaotic but wholesome found family dynamic in the Husband Hoax. Having them and the Queer Collective in the same book was insane but amazing. I was living for it!
Overall, I really loved this book and had so much fun with it. I devoured it in a single sitting and already can't wait for the next installment.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Cute, but nothing groundbreaking. Just kind of mid-tier of the Sadenverse books I’ve read so far. This book felt mostly like a sponsored ad of all the other couples, because they took up almost as much space in the story as Aleks and Gabe.
I did kind of like the really slow entry into the relationship, with Aleks having come from a long-term relationship and never being with anyone else, and never with a guy at all. I enjoyed the awkwardness and novelty of it, and how Gabe was so patient with him. And then kind of how Gabe was worried once he and Aleks had tried everything sexually that their arrangement would be over. I also liked the lack of a third act breakup.
What I didn’t like was Aleks going on that fake date right after he and Gabe became official, even though he knew Gabe wasn’t happy about it. Totally gave me the ick with his character, but he kinda made up for it when he came to the conclusion that he loved Gabe because he would sacrifice things for him that he never would have with his ex-wife. And the “I love you” declaration was adorable. Spice was eh, just alright. The dirty talk was good though.
All the Puckboy audiobooks are on a waitlist at my library so looks like I’m jumping back to the Fake Boyfriend series for a bit. Maddox and Damon, here I come.
This book was so funny, from the get go you’re thrown into amusing situations. I flew through this one and think it’s my second favourite of the series after Irresponsible puckboy
Other tropes include: 💕Dating lessons 🫶 minor and funny Jealousy 🏳️🌈 Coming out journey (mostly positive) ✌️ found family
I cannot be judged for the person I become reading these books (a gremlin who reads them in under a day)
This has my favourite cover 🥵🥵🥵 but is maybe my least favourite book in the series. HANG ON LET ME EXPLAIN.
I liked both MCs a lot and I really loved the journey Aleks went through - that was a lot and he deserved all the patience and love possible while exploring part of himself that he’d never been able to experience. And Gabe was wonderful! But for me this just didn’t hit the same as the other books and I think it’s because Gabe started off pretty solid and remained that way throughout. I just didn’t feel as much depth from him as some of the other MCs so while I loved him and loved him for Aleks specifically I just didn’t connect with him as much.
But it’s still 4.5-5 so take my complaints with a grain of salt lol Hot fireman + recently divorced and out pansexual hockey player. All the first times. All the swoon. I loved their competitive dates and of course the found family on both sides! I’ll be binging book 5 immediately 🥰
I almost didn't re-read this one. I remember it wasn't all that exciting the first time I've read it but it sure as hell was now. It's funny how some books can be a completey different experience when you read them the second or third time around.
I'm bumping up the rating to 3.9 - 4⭐. Definitely deserved.
🔵 Hockey player/firefighter 🟢 Both around 30 years old 🟣 Gay/pansexual 🟡 Serial monogamist, first time with a man 🟣 Size difference 🔵 Cute, funny, good chemistry 🟠 Storytelling less juvenile, less of the terrible jokes, although still needs work 🌶️ Smut is very good, descriptive; oral, penetrative; both vers
"He throws me another look. “Last time you stayed over, you waited until I was peeing and pulled up beside me to— and I quote— see who could fill the toilet fastest.” “Bladder battles. It’s a thing.” “So not a thing.” “Clearly, you didn’t get the bonding experience out of it that I did.” I hold back my laugh. “Maybe we should hold hands and try it next time.” “You know I have issues when I can’t even say no because it means spending more time with you.”
Aleks and Gabe have a sweet, believable love story that talks about two guys just having that intense pull and chemistry right off the bat and they actually stay together, against all odds. It's not too over the top like most of the stories in this series are, the writing here was actually toned down a bit and if the author that's constantly putting in juvenile ideas would drop it, this would've been a really fantastic story all around.
This time I was inspired, very much so. The relationship development was on point, I loved everything about it, especially because Aleks and Gabe didn't break up or cool it down at any point, they just went with it. They had that natural chemistry that's just there and it's fantastic, I think it was more so felt because Aleks realised very early on he's definitely not the hook-up type and just dived in and enjoyed his firsts with Gabe.
"I’ll never get over this. Never get sick of him. He can have doubts all he likes; I’ll make it my mission to break every one of them down. I wasn’t talking shit when I said I know what I’m getting into. He’s vulnerable. Wary. Scarred from the divorce of a relationship that was supposed to be forever. And after all that, I imagine forever would be hard to promise someone again. So I’ll promise it for us both."
I liked the size difference, Gabe was taller, wider, stronger and I liked how Aleks always had to look up and kiss the guy. It was cute, I loved it.
A few things bothered me, first was putting in a few stilted dialogues between the rest of the characters, combined with yet again tons of stereotypes about hockey players (it's getting old, seriously); the other was fostering of the troubled youth that they've both decided on. I get it, it's a noble cause, but I just can't see these guys buying that expensive house in an expensive part of town and then putting up homeless teens in their home. This was Gabe's passion and I thought it would be much better if they'd open up a shelter and a non-profit and work with that. They could've gotten other players on-board, given the teens hockey practice or whatever, it would be much more helpful than just opening up their home and deal with all of that there.
But other than that I honestly liked Aleks and Gabe's love story, a lot. It's actually right there with Anton and Ezra, it's good, sweet and angst-free, but you'll want to read the rest of the books in the series before starting this one.

A solid 3.25⭐.
The story is about Aleks, if you remember him from Oskar's book, he just got divorced and is testing the waters with trying to date other people, specifically men. Aleks meets Gabe, a hot fireman, at a Queer Collective party and Aleks is instantly interested. With a few initial hiccups they start hooking up, eventually they fall in love and decide to give their relationship a shot.
The story left me somewhat uninspired, because I thought things between them were going to be a lot more interesting and passionate, at least the book had a promising start. I loved Gabe and I believe with his position in life and him being a fireman who barely makes ends meet, that should've been explored more, especially since that was something he was aware of most of the time while dating Aleks.
I liked Aleks' possessiveness, but then again I wasn't really sold on it, because he was just out of a relationship and was reluctant about so many things in his new relationship with Gabe.
It was a good story though, but didn't inspire me much.
I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while, but I have been putting it off because I haven’t read any of the other books in the series, and I was worried I would be confused if I just jumped into this one first. I finally reached my breaking point after seeing one too many cutesy tik toks about this book. I was like you know what, I’m okay with being a little confused it’s fine. And honestly, it was. I wasn’t confused at all. I think it helped that I’ve read the CU Hockey series, so I had a little background knowledge anyway. But, I would argue that even if you haven’t read those, you’d still be fine. Moral of the story is, I wasn’t confused. Can be read as a standalone. Okay, let’s continue.
Let’s start by saying the way this book started??? Amazing. It was so cute. So basically this group of queer NHL players (the queer collective as they call them) were having a party and they were so drunk. Apparently a small fire happened and the fire department was called out. In comes Gabe (one of our main characters) and his work bestie Sanden. Gabe and Sanden were hot enough that the drunk hockey men were convinced they were strippers. Hilarious. Anyway, as Gabe and Sanden are trying to figure out what’s going on from a group of drunk men, Aleks (other main character) loudly and drunkenly yells at Gabe that he is gorgeous and that he would love to have his babies. I was squealing.
I really loved Aleks and Gabe. Heavy on Gabe. He was my favorite. (Also Gabe had pretty dimples, so who wouldn’t love him?) Aleks is fresh out of a 10 year marriage with his wife, and he wants to see what it’s like being with a man. He just announced that he was pansexual. I don’t know if he’s always known that he was, or he recently discovered that he was, but either way he’s never been with a man. Him and Gabe decide that Gabe will help Aleks with all his firsts with a man. Aleks felt comfortable with Gabe, so he trusted being with him like that. Plus it was only going to be no-strings attached fun, so there wasn’t any risk of feelings or anything. HAHA I LOVE when they think that.
Gabe was so patient and so sweet with Aleks. I loved how him and Aleks got competitive with each other by trying to one-up the other on who could plan cuter dates that led to fun sexy times (super duper sexy times) I also loved watching them get to know each other and get closer.
I had a little bit of a background on Gabe from reading The Husband Hoax by Saxon James. He was one of the roommates that lived in the share house. In that book, before Gabe became a firefighter, he was a struggling artist. I believed he liked to draw sketches. Anyway, I was surprised that didn’t come up in this book. Gabe’s artwork was never mentioned. Not really necessary, but I figured it would come up considering it was once his dream.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed this book. I’ve been in a pretty slumpy mood with my reading, and this helped to pull me out. Please read thanks :)
Fun quotes:
“If I wanna be cheap and nasty, let me be cheap and nasty.”
“I’m sure I want to have your babies is not something you’re supposed to yell at hot people.”
“Don’t you dare! Touch my boyfriend and see what happens!”
“I’m sitting here, right now, with you … and I already miss you.”
“His soft laugh brushes my lips. “How didn’t you run that night?” “I did.” Our eyes clash. “Right to you.””
Disappointing - it would be good to have a queer romance that didn’t involved shitting all over the bi/pan character’s previous relationship/woman partner. So unnecessary and sexist. Also what is the point of making your main characters a hockey player and a firefighter if there’s going to be basically no hockey or firefighting content? So much potential for interesting plot that just didn’t happen
I'm enjoying my reread of this series but honestly this one isn't the best of the bunch. I noticed quite a few errors in this book and I'm wondering if Eden and Saxon got a new editor or proofreader... the book was adorable and I love Aleks and Gabe, but it wasn't up to the authors' usual standards. The concept of an aspiring manwhore realizing he's just a serial monogamist at heart was fun. I just wish Gabe's character had as much depth and charm as Aleks's.
Another solid installment in the Puckboy series - I think it’s my least favourite because I felt like these characters were just not quite Ethan and Anton when it came to double cockiness, weren’t quite innocent and well versed like Tripp and Dex, weren’t quite… They felt a bit like a culmination of the (very many) characters rather than their own to me.
It delivered exactly what I was expecting: a low-angst, sweet rom-com. I did realise however that I was lucky to have read all books by Saxon James and Eden Finley because the cameos are taking over. So many cameos that I feel like the fleshing out of these two characters suffered in my opinion. Also we had an under utilisation of dimples - I don’t know if we ever got a poke in a dimple or a tongue in one… Embrace the dimples!!
NSFW infos: I read this yesterday and can’t remember - the sex scenes were very meh in this one. The best moments were the “against the wall banging” and kissing. vers? Yes, vers I believe. - One out gay man - One divorcé who is pansexual and has only been with his previous wife
I present to you a stream of consciousness flow of thoughts as I listened…
Cover your ears, all caps screaming is coming.
WHICHEVER ONE OF THESE MFERS WROTE THAT SECOND CHAPTER IS A GD GENIUS.
I never and I MEAN NEVER do this… But it’s getting 5 stars immediately bc I’ve never had an audio book make me nearly wreck. TWICE. I’m only on the second chapter so I shouldn't star it yet…. But I’ve never laughed so hard!!
I pulled a stitch in my side and started crying on the interstate for christs sake 😂😭😂
If the rest of this book doesn’t keep this momentum I will be so disappointed.
So, starting off at ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ because of the hilarity that is chapter 2.
But then...
Spoilers coming...
I AM SO DISAPPOINTED. That was the stupidest 3rd quarter fallout twist I've ever read. I'm mad about it. Like big mad. Aleks isn't that stupid to think it's okay to ask to take out the supermodel instead of Gabe to deflect attention from Gabe.... FUCK THAT NOISE. It's made me mad enough to want to bump it down to two stars. This book was being a great low angst read and this twist was such a roller coaster drop. And. I hate. It. Gabe would have chosen him, Gabe would have chosen being seen as the bad luck charm. Aleks you freaking idiot.
So at the 3rd quarter mess up it's now down to two angry ⭐⭐😡
Now waiting for the wrap up final star amount...
Ok so here we are. There was one more unnecessary bump in the road over a miscommunication over kids. It gets worked out but bleh. The ending clearly sets up two other books (Up in Flames & the next Puckboy book). The ending was fine. No huge revelations in the HEA so much as pointing toward Remy and Sanden. Ending on a solid 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
3.5 stars - The fire scene is one of my favorite moments ever! I was LOLing the whole time. This book started great, but then not much happened after, it was a bit too slow for me, I liked both Aleks and Gabe just fine, but I enjoyed previous books more. I’d still recommend this.
this was a super cute, super quick hockey x firefighter mm romance.
aleks is freshly divorced and freshly “out” as pansexual and when firefighters are called to his house when his friends drunkenly set a fire, the hottest man he’s ever seen is one of the guys on call. they start out as a friends with bennies/sex coach type of deal but we know how that goes.
this again was really cute and had a lot of sweet/funny scenes. i love the found family aspect of this and i definitely want to go back and read the other books in this series. their relationship just felt superficial/rushed to me so i was rooting for them but felt like their ‘i love yous’ came too quick.
still def recommend if you want a fluffy read and love an mm hockey romance, but i didn’t have a huge connection to their relationship.
This was almost four stars, until the drama at the end, and honestly I feel like it’s closer to two stars after adding a second bit of drama. One is too much already but two did it in for me, I just started skipping chunks of the audiobook after that.
But up until the drama, I was actually enjoying it. The relationship felt like it progressed at a good speed, not too fast or too slow. Of course there was the usual thing I complain about with the fact that everyone feels like the same character with a few different features, but I’ve accepted that as an issue for this series by now.
