I highly liked the first part of the novel. The second half... Not so much.

Pros:

The story:
It's quite interesting. Getting information that you are an heiress from your grandparents' side.

The female lead. Her reactions to everything are very relatable based on what has happened to her and how it must've shaped her personality.

Cons:

I don't know why we have "Corrupt" in the title. It's just speculation in the first book. Maybe we'll get more in the second one?

The change of characters:What happened with Aiden, Rory, and Astrid? It was like they were suddenly removed from the novel. And Nox, the second male lead, was added just at the last moment to make it MFM.

Plus, nothing really happens in the spice department here, guys...

Absolutely loved this. It’s mild dark with some slight bullying, but secrets y’all the secrets. I wanna know everything! We get like nowhere in figuring things out, but vibes are on point as always and the romance is gonna be top notch. The dynamic between Nova and the twins is fantastic. The quote where Lucien says he wants to own her and Nox says he wants to be owned BY her is *chef’s kiss*. Friggin yes please.
I love them. And by them I don’t just mean the twins, but Nova too. She stands up for herself and recognizes when not to take shit and when it doesn’t matter. She’s a queen.

That cliffhanger is killer. I knew I’d end up on this cliff but I have no regrets. I love Albany Walker so much. Whelp, guess I’ll go reread someone else by her… hopefully not Amusement for the 3rd time this year 😂.

There is just something about the stupidly rich and powerful cultivating what I can only describe as an ostentatious adult version of a “no girls allowed” tree house-esque club that I remember growing up with as a kid, that I find wildly entertaining, and this book was no exception. (Also, YES I’m keenly aware that there are females in this secret society but I’m trying to make a point here) I thoroughly enjoyed peaking behind the curtain into this entirely new world that us mere mortals are not usually privy too. So imagine our fmc being thrust head first into the land of the privileged under the guise of getting to know the grandparents you thought were dead your whole life, with the caveat that not everything is as it seems. ouuuu cue the suspenseful music

The Morningstar twins in my opinion were the perfect amalgamation of Ying and Yang in human form, where Lucian is our rough around the edges, angry bad boy with a permanent scowl etched into his features, and always hurling abuse at our fmc, Nox is his counterpart - the quiet calculated gentle and empathetic bad boy in disguise, always playing peacekeeper between Lucian and Nova. Where Lucian is brash and unapologetically an asshole, Nox has the ability to lull you in with pretty words and soft caresses’, he’s able to slip past your defences and make you fall before you even realize you’ve fallen.

”Fine, whatever. If you’ll keep your unhinged brother in check, I’ll agree to just about anything.”
“Oh, Nova, don’t tempt me. While I may not be as unhinged as Lucian, I’m still no saint.”

I’m not sure why this story has received so many mixed reviews… I really enjoyed it, I think Nova’s character was the right amount of defiant and stubborn - this is a girl who wasn’t born with a silver spoon up her ass, who has learned to care for herself and pay her own way, which has given her thicker skin over time, so watching the dynamic play out between Lucian’s incessant bullying and Nova’s persistent rebuttals was like watching a really intense tennis match 🤷🏻‍♀️

The only question I have is: Where in the fresh fuck did Alden’s character disappear off too? He was part time shadow, part time enforcer for Nova, and after she managed to convince her estranged grandparents that she absolutely did NOT require a body guard at all hours of the day, he dissipated like smoke, never to be seen or heard from again. (Or so that’s how I’ve imagined it)

Anyway, I love a secret society drama series with cult undertones and enough sexual tension to topple governments

I was super bothered by the fact that Nova asked zero questions about this life she was offered up. Characters would just disappear and the story was just not flushed out in my opinion.

I am, for the most part, enjoying the story, but the FMC really should be asking questions and not just "putting it on the back burner."

The TENSION!

I legitimately devoured this book! It was hard to put this down and why I did not sleep for the entire night!

The books starts out with Nova, who is a poor young woman, working as a waitress just trying to make it. In walks some guy to tell her that her “dead“ grandparents aren’t dead and that they want to meet here. She is skeptical and it takes some convincing. Once she makes it there she realizes she may have made a mistake, and she doesn’t understand what is really going on. They are on an island with a college, and in walks Lucien who wants her gone. I can’t tell you the reason without spoiling some things.

Nox and Lucien are twins and they are night and day and I want both of them!!! I can’t wait to read what happens!!!!

SO GOOD!

This is one of Albany’s best releases. I’ve been a big fan of her books, but I really love the way that this book came together.

🌶: 1
⭐️: 5

I love the strength in Nova’s character and how she handles herself. I love how she defends herself and the way that she didn’t cave so easily to Lucian and Nox. I love the way Lucian and Nox were written as well. Nox isn’t very alpha while his twin Lucian is very very OTP. But I like the way the three of them balance each other out.

And despite the lack of smut in the book, you could still feel the chemistry between all 3 and I am so excited for the next book. There’s a lot to the plot of this book and a lot that has me curious and on the edge of my seat.

Seriously speechless. I am sitting here trying to gather my thoughts. I started reading and couldn’t put the book down until the end. Nova, Lucian and Nox are deeply complex characters with tragic back stories. There are fireworks when they first meet , but they are all drawn together. So many quick with few answers in the first book in the series. The cliffhanger definitely makes me eager for the next book.

Another one

I will get straight to the point with my review. It seems that a lot of authors Who write these types of stories are just copying pasting the character. It’s always the blonde hair blue-eyed girl with no friends but she has a little bit of edge because her parents passed and they had no money. The only thing different about the character in this book is that every other page she talks about how big she is which really doesn’t even match with her background but that’s a different story. The main male character is interested in her because no one has ever talked to him like the way she does; also of course he wants to Boink the main female character.
The writer didn’t do a great job of building the character into their role she falls way too easily into her enemy supposedly‘s narrative there’s no real background on why the main character doesn’t talk to her grandparents other than a few lines here and there . Without real explanation the main female character easily falls in to this groove with the main male character and starts trusting him over everything else like the main character hears and sees. Like the many times in the story The protagonist called herself dumb, she does come off just as dumb. The world is not built very well at all in the first book the characters personalities sometimes do not match their background story.

I have loved all of Albany’s books I’ve read and this one is no exception. It doesn’t beat Tasting Madness series but it definitely has potential to be up there. Towards the end I really got sucked into the story and next thing I knew it was over and now I’m going to be haunted by that ending until the next book comes out. If you are looking for a MFM, college, bully, with a bit of a mystery I highly recommend this one.

This is my first book by Albany Walker and I went into it completely blind. Because of that, I will say I was a little thrown. Because the cover made it seem like this would have some Paranormal/Fantasy Elements, in my opinion at least. I was thinking Demons, Vampires, and even Werewolves for some reason and kept expecting them to pop up somewhere. However, this is a complete Contemporary world. I think I’m straddling between 3 and 4 Stars on this one because of the Male VA’s performance and Lucien (MM1) not holding my attention.

Brooke Daniels voices all of the female characters in this book and I think she did a phenomenal job! She even voiced a character who had a Russian accent, and I found it to be believable.

Corvin King voiced all of the male characters in this book. And I did not jive whatsoever with this mans voice. With the exception of Mickey and Jimmy, ALL of the males sounded exactly the same. So, as a listener it was weird to hear all of these varied male characters seem like the exact same man. There was a very small part that King spoke Russian and did a great job…add that with the accents he did for Mickey and Jimmy…I’m not sure why he didn’t continue to do different tones/pitches for the rest of the characters; that would have allowed those characters to have their own identities. Near the 50% mark I actually bumped up the speed to 1.2x, then eventually 1.5x because King had an over-the-top breathy and elongated way of speaking, that I personally needed it to be sped up to not cringe unfortunately😬.

I really enjoyed Nova (FMC), Mickey (Bartender), Jimmy (Bar Owner), Amanda (Bar Worker), and Nox (MMC2). I loved that Nova had brains, a spine, and was still inherently kind. Mickey, Jimmy, and Amanda had such small parts, but they left an impression on me. Nox was adorable from the moment he was introduced for me. I really liked him and the instant connection him and Nova shared.

Lucien (MMC1)….ummm he seemed to walk a fine line with the Bully Trope. The more I listened he went from “Ugh, he’s such a jerk but, I bet he has a reason that I can’t wait to find out” to realizing that he is pretty much toxic and at times I would even say he was a monster. Nova was physically hurt numerous times because of him. I was really surprised by how many times she bled, was bruised, fell, got scraped up, and I think she even tore her tendons in her wrist because of him? Like, girl was getting physically destroyed because of this man. And up until the last few chapters, Nova had repeatedly stated that Lucien made her skin crawl, she felt like she was in danger, and basically feels his presence because of how much she dreads being near him. Lucien also referred to Nova as a “b*tch” twice I believe, behind her back. And a “c*nt” literally to her face…..I personally think his character has a long road to redemption for me and by the end of the book he is kind of meh.

Overall, the story was easy to listen to. It ended on a cliffhanger, so I think I will want to read Book 2 Created in Chaos, and I am absolutely interested in checking out more of Albany’s works even if this one was not exactly what I was expecting.

FINALLY!!!
I have been in a book slump since finishing The Serpent and the Wings of Night. I kept finding 2 star books that were keeping me down 😔 Given that I am a mood reader, it was seriously killing my vibes. I was starting to worry that maybe it was me!

This was my first book by Albany Walker and most certainly will not be my last! I was so hooked to the story that I put off going to the grocery store and cooking dinner. I was so invested in having to know what would happen next that I ended up eating a grilled cheese & cheetos for dinner because it meant the least amount of time away from this book. No. Lie.

I am both thrilled the trilogy is completed and devastated that I only have two more books to go. When my emotions get this high out of excitement, it's hard to give a thorough review of the book and details of the story. I can tell you that I am so hooked that I seriously want to call out of work tomorrow so I can stay home and read Created in Chaos (Corrupt Credence #2) by Albany Walker

I LIVE FOR DUAL POV'S!! Lucien & Nova's chapters were my favorite. Although there were many, I still need MORE 💗

I love Nova! She is such a badass. Strong but not too hard. Defiant but kind. Sassy and Snarky. She gives as good as she gets. I definitely understand why so many readers mentioned the typical badass FMC's that Albany Walker writes. Apparently, this is one of her trademarks. I am here for it and cannot wait to read more from her... as soon as I finish devouring this series 💗

Wow wow wow

Listen it's been hard to get into a book lately. It seems like what I needed was this. I love secret society/bullies and all that great stuff. But sometimes it can overpower the characters and their stories. They have emotions, humor and strength that goes a tad unnoticed. Or exaggerated. But this is really good. I love the slow burn. There's heat don't misunderstand but it's like an actual build up of crushes and attractions.

Nova doesn't know she has living family. She's the product of a tragic accident that has left her vulnerable and alone. Until a completely unexpected claim from wealthy grandparents arrives. With an uncertain future she's very realistic. When she meets these grandparents they're the average distant relatives. There's affection but a constant "you're needed" really drives her nuts. Needless to say there's always the bully aka leader of the school. Lucian Morningstar. Oh he's just a real pain in her assss. But she's not cowed by him. Money and power really means nothing to her. Lucian is everything depraved but...his twin brother Nox is the opposite. He's the softer one. Sensitive but not a pushover.

As events unfold the connection grows between the three. Some other things happen that aren't major that are refreshing. No big girl angst. It's a great story. Now I just can't wait for the next installment because it is going to be HOTTTT. I just know it. What this writer has done in the minds of the characters is going to be fantastic when it's acted out. Ugh I can't wait.

I’m intrigued

Ahhh! That cliffhanger!! What the heck! This book has me feeling all sorts of ways! I started out really immersed, interested in finding out the story behind Nova’s parents and why now? I liked Nova from the start, she’s very down to earth and has had to learn how to survive on her own. When this lawyer shows up with news of a family she’s never known about it’s definitely suspicious! There’s so many questions and i get momentarily side tracked by Alden’s appearance. I thought he was going to be a main character and then halfway through the book he just falls off. That kinda threw me for a loop. This book is shrouded in so much mystery. At around 64% i kinda fell off the focus shifted with nova’s job and it slowed down. I took a few hours and then picked back up. The story starts picking. Back up around 70%. The Twins definitely have me intrigued. I obviously have a favorite and it’s Nox. Something about him just calls to me, also finding out Lucian is more than what meets the eyes. I really love how he cares for his brother. My mind is running with possibilities on if the twins and Nova’s Parent’s deaths could be linked. I’m back to being fully invested, i need the next book!

Albany Walker's could write a shopping list on toilet paper and I would devour every word. This story contains shades of darkness and subtle yet powerful themes of bullying, but it's the tantalizing secrets woven throughout that truly captivate me. I am gripped by an insatiable desire to uncover every twist and turn! While the story may progress slowly in revealing its mysteries, the atmosphere is always electric and the promise of romance is undoubtable. The dynamic between Nova and the twins is a masterful balance - both equally compelling and lovable. Nova herself is a force to be reckoned with, confidently standing up for herself and knowing when to take a stand or let things go. She exudes a regal aura, earning my admiration as queen of her own destiny. In sum, this piece has completely enchanted me with its alluring mix of darkness and secrecy. The characters and their intricate relationships have me completely enthralled, eagerly anticipating where the plot will lead us next.

Made in Malice by Albany Walker

I picked this up from TikTok, not really knowing what it was going to be about, other than it's a RH romance between brother/twins.
So trust me when I say this, I was not expecting it to be this freaking good

I love Nova’s character and how she handles herself. I love how she defends herself and the way that she didn’t cave so easily to Lucian and Nox.

I love the way Lucian and Nox were written as well.
Nox isn’t very alpha while his twin Lucian is very very OTP.

This book ends on a cliffhanger..
also I love all the secrets in this book📕

Intriguing I suppose

There is a lot of roundabout talking and barely any action. It's not a short book but not much happens, if the heroine hadn't been likable this book would have tanked for me. I kept trying to figure out if the characters were supernatural or not. I'm still not sure, I won't drop spoilers but there are hints here and there. Probably why I stuck it out till the end.

This is a bit of a bully romance but hardly scratches some of the worst I've attempted to read. I like the take on Lucian and Nox the balance they bring makes the book more interesting. Reading about a heroine who is miserable from start to finish has no allure.

In two minds about book 2 I suppose if this book stays in my mind I probably will read it.

I really enjoyed this.

The plot of this is kind of stupid because why is this girl just going and not asking questions, but that honestly didn’t bother me that much because I was entertained. I really liked the main character she made me laugh. There’s a little bit of mystery to this which I’m enjoying. As for the romance this is a slower burn which I wasn’t expecting but I’m kind of liking that. I do like the love interests. I’m excited to read the next one because this ends on a cliffhanger.

Holy cliffhanger 😱 This book hooked me throughout, nearly read in one sitting.

Mystery and suspense, elite secret society vibes. Really enjoyed the main characters and twists so far. FMC felt relatable. Slow burn, with push/pull tension. Multi-POV.

I have so many questions! Dammit gonna have a book hangover now
