In the villa of a passionate collector of Egyptian antiquities, strange incidents begin to occur around a mysterious statue of the cat goddess Bastet. Finally there is a tragic accident, and the owner of the house loses his life in a bizarre turn of events.
Luckily, Athos and Pearl are guests at the villa, together with their two humans, and they start to investigate … but this case may prove to be the most difficult yet for the furry detective duo.
The dynamic duo, Athos and Pearl, once again solve the mystery! I don’t know how these two keep finding themselves in this situation but each time it’s delightful to watch them lead their human owners to the clues.
ALMOST FELT TOO MYSTERY HEAVY THIS TIME ROUND. BUT, AS ALWAYS, LOVE ATHOS & PEARL!
SERIES PREMISE: In this series we follow Athos, an Alaskan Malamut, who lives with Pearl a kitten and their human Victoria. In this book: In the villa of a passionate collector of Egyptian antiquities, strange incidents begin to occur around a mysterious statue of the cat goddess Bastet. Finally there is a tragic accident, and the owner of the house loses his life in a bizarre turn of events. Luckily, Athos and Pearl are guests at the villa, together with their two humans, and they start to investigate … but this case may prove to be the most difficult yet for the furry detective duo.
THOUGHTS: Honestly this one leant a little too much into the mystery. In fact, the first sentance is "It was I who found the dead man". I am not a fan of cozies that open with the mystery having already begun as I prefer to see it play out while I'm there. Also it casts aside the 'cozy' side until there is time for it to shine. In this series the cozy theme is 'Athos and Pearl' and while I love both of them, the book read more like a mystery than a cozy mystery. I am hoping this trend doesn't continue. 3 Stars mainly for Athos and Pearl themselves because they're always so entertaining. Couldn't have cared less about the mystery though.
Another exciting mystery with tons of twists and turns!
Athos and Pearl, along with humans Victoria and Tim are visiting a collector of ancient Egyptian antiquities, when he is found dead at the bottom of the stairs. All 4 of them go into action trying to figure out if it was an accident or murder. It was murder, but finding out who did it was a long and involved process. The twists and turns will keep you guessing and the ending is a shocker also!
The pace is fast and the tone is uncertain with an action and character oriented storyline. The characters are vibrant and engaging. Read this engrossing series of mysteries in order and prepare to be blown away! Enjoy!
This time the sleuths have help from a cat named Bastet, a young sparrow and his friends, and even a toad!
Victoria and Tim are seriously beginning to wonder if their pets can truly understand every word they say. In her desperation to steer them in direction of the murderer, Pearl even playacts scratching herself to clue them in.
Very devious perp! Sometimes on the audiobook the reader lowers his voice too much for Athos, making it hard to hear in the car. And the woman--the psychologist--Victoria?--why does he make her sound like a snooty society matron sometimes? Not my most favorite series, but I come back to it inbetween others.
Aptos and Pearl are trying to solve another murder with help from the animals. While trying to convey some evidence to Victoria and Tim, they almost give away that they are sentient. Great reading
