Detective Daniel Swann and debutante Juliette Thorndike once again team up to solve a dangerous mystery--while trying to keep their growing romance secret.
Someone is preying upon the street children of Regency London. They seem to think no one will notice when urchins go missing--and even if they are noticed, who will care?
Daniel needs to do something about the missing children. But with recent revelations about his past and an unexpected, somewhat unwelcome inheritance to deal with, this is a terrible time to dive back into the seedy underbelly of the crime world. Nevertheless, he's still a Bow Street runner, and his partner Lady Juliette is sensitive to the plight of these wayward youngsters. They're on the case, searching shadowed alleys and coal-drenched streets to find the missing.
But the tangle of expectation and the dynamics of power cannot be easily ignored, even if there are children in danger. When Daniel's past threatens to overwhelm his future, he will need a miracle and the help of his friends to both apprehend the villain and unravel his tangled family web. And it may be that his new responsibilities demand that he leave the children of the shadows to their terrible fate--or lose everything.
Erica Vetsch's popular Regency mystery series concludes with a bang, sure to satisfy readers who have hung on every page since book one.

I have been greatly anticipating this book since I finished the second book over a year ago and sometimes the books you anticipated don’t meet those expectations. I’m thankful to say that this was a good conclusion to the series. *big sigh of relief*
More so in this book than the prior books, I did feel a bit left out with the mentions of characters from the author’s prior series. My fault, I know, since I haven’t read those (they’re on my ever-growing TBR!) but I felt like I was missing the excitement of seeing characters again. I’m pushing that series up my TBR to hopefully get to in the new year. And then if I just have to reread this series after that? Oh, well, woe is me. ;)
Speaking of series, can there be a spin-off series about Uncle Bertie, Rosebreen, and Rhynwock? They stole the scenes they were in, and I want to see them again!
Throughout this trilogy, Juliette and Daniel were just so cute and good together, fighting crime and falling in love. In this final book, there wasn’t much romance, more case work which I found interesting, but I did miss seeing them together more. Because of the focus on Daniel’s cases, the romance definitely took a backseat at times—which I didn’t hate because I prefer a good light romance, but I was missing their cute moments together. Juliette really doesn’t get involved in the cases until 75% in, which was a bit disappointing, because she was an equal help in the prior two books and she kind of felt like a side character at times in this book.
Like both prior books in the series, I love the vocabulary and phrases used. It gives the book such a different charm to it compared to many other regency books I’ve read.
Birth secrets were finally revealed in the prior book and now are truly coming to play. There’s different angles to it which we see in the book and it was interesting how both Juliette and Daniel thought how it would help their relationship. There was only one way this book was going to end in my mind and I felt my blood pressure rising in the last 15 or so percent because of it. Daniel being a noble idiot made me want to scream into a pillow. So needless to say, I was stressed because of the rather rushed ending and having to take deep breaths at times, hahaha!
While this book didn’t match up to my adoration of the first book (that bar is just too high!) this was still a good conclusion to a series I’m sad to see end and am overall satisfied by the ending. (Mainly not satisfied with the fact that it’s over. I like Juliette and Daniel too much!)
An intriguing and compelling conclusion to the glittering Thorndike and Swann Series, and another great installment in the Haverly Universe! Children of the Shadows is Regency sleuthing at its finest. Full of romance, mystery, and the drama of the English Aristocracy, this story will appeal to history lovers and those who enjoy PBS's Miss Scarlet and The Duke. -- Gabrielle Meyer, author of When the Day Comes and In This Moment
“What God wills is going to happen, and your task is to respond well.” What fun it was to read this accomplished Regency mystery. It is a favorite time period and subject of spying for the Crown. The story was so enjoyable and the icing on the cake was seeing the romance between Daniel and Juliette blossom amid difficulties. The characters were well crafted and the plot intricate and interesting. Daniel and Juliette navigated the danger with intelligence. I liked seeing the workings of Bow Street as well as the depicting of the lives of the upper class and the street children. Juliette is confronted with the possibility of choosing between friendship with Agatha and love with Daniel. She is counseled to pray about it: “I receive peace when I remind myself through prayer that God is both sovereign and good.” I was pleased that the author showed a benevolent side to the aristocracy by their championing a cause and actually doing some good works. Juliette and her friends were moved enough to personally make a difference to those less fortunate. I have loved this series and hope that we have not seen the last of Juliette and Daniel, for I perceive more adventures for these characters. *I received a complimentary copy of this book from Kregel on behalf of the author. I was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.*
Another fantastic book in the Thorndike & Swann series! I’ve been eagerly anticipating Children of the Shadows ever since reading Millstone of Doubt. It’s a forbidden romance, Bow Street Runner, Regency mystery with a touch of faith that kept me glued to my Kindle. If you haven’t read the previous books in the series, you may want to stop reading to avoid spoilers.
Detective Daniel Swann is still reeling after discovering who his father & benefactor are. He now must prove he’s the rightful heir to receive his inheritance. His new identity gives him hope that he might be able to court Lady Juliette Thorndike whom he’s fallen in love with & was previously out of reach.
Juliette has gotten used to having her parents around & now they’re leaving again. While they’re away on a secret mission, they want her to take time to decide if she wants to continue training to be a spy for the crown. She’s also wrestling with telling them about her feelings for Daniel. Will they give them their blessing?
On top of all these struggles is a new mystery to solve. Several street children have disappeared along with two murders. While Daniel’s superiors don’t think the children’s disappearance is worth investigating, Daniel does. He enlists the help of Juliette & his friends to solve the mystery.
It’s another thrilling adventure with plenty of twists & turns along the way. Daniel’s inheritance is so precarious. He & Juliette have to keep their distance so as not to prejudice the court in any way or threaten her reputation. It’s a careful tightrope they walk as they team up to investigate while trying to keep their relationship secret. Of course charming Uncle Bertie is there to help out & offer advice as well as Marcus Haverly.
The romance was so good! I was on tenterhooks wondering if they’d ever get their happily ever after. The slow burn mystery was intriguing & kept me guessing. Daniel, Juliette, & all the side characters are so endearing, I’m hoping the series will continue.
Highly recommend to Regency romance & mystery fans! Definitely a must read! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author & publisher. All opinions are my own & voluntarily provided.
Really fun plot, loved these characters and seeing their arcs come to an end, but I did get annoyed with them near the end. And I was also annoyed by the resolution of one of the plotlines.
Missing Children. Rightful heir to a name. Emotions running wild. These are some of the events that will happen when readers approach and dive into Children of the Shadows by Erica Vetsch. I enjoy the tame mystery element of the Regency era mystery. Nothing over the top, but enough of a head scratcher that readers will keep flipping through the pages to find out what is happening to the children. I love how seamless the story flows. Once I dove into the lives of Daniel and Juliette, it was like returning to friends that readers have not seen for a while. It was nice to play catch up and feel the hurt and love just alongside them. The setting is nicely handled and developed in my imagination as the characters roam through London from the wealthy to the poor side of town. Readers should definitely read the first two books in the series to help set up some of the backstory for Daniel. Not that this story cannot be read as a stand alone novel, but the first two stories give more information on what happens in this story. Vetsch does a wonderful job at crafting a couple of threads that has woven through all three stories and delivered them nicely to the readers like she promised. Overall, Children of the Shadows by Erica Vetsch is definitely a book that I want to own in my personal library and would recommend this story to young mystery lovers.
I received a complimentary copy of Children of the Shadows by Erica Vetsch from Kregel Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
This series is so good, this is the final story and it was a privilege to read it, a good blend of historical romance and mystery, and a strong faith message delivered throughout the story.

I was captivated by the story, full of wit, humor, and suspense, The romance was so sweet with off-the-chart chemistry between the main characters and some worthy kisses...while this could be read as stand-alone, I will recommend reading previous books to get the full backstory of the characters... Content: Christian Romance, clean, kisses only.
Thank you, NetGalley and Kregel Publications for providing me with the eARC. All opinions are my own.
What a great wrap up to the Thorndike & Swann series! This novel is definitely my favorite of the collection. I loved seeing the way things progressed between Juliette and Daniel, even as they both dealt with the reality of having to wait for either potentially wonderful news or potentially devastating news relating to Daniel’s past.
The mystery of the missing children was fascinating and I liked the twists and turns that the investigation took.
Daniel and Juliette had a lot to deal with emotionally in this story. Not only did they have to hide their feelings for each other much of the time, but they also had to weather the judgmental attitudes and gossip of the ton.
This story would best be understood and appreciated after reading the first two books in the series. Each novel has its own mystery to be solved, yet the relationship between Juliette and Daniel slowly develops over the course of all three novels. I also have to say that I loved how much the Duke and Duchess of Haverly, from the author’s previous series, appear in this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Swoon 😍 What an absolute joy these books were. I really really enjoy this authors writing. This was my favorite of the series! I’ve enjoyed these characters so much. This book has Scarlet and the Duke vibes and I adored it. I’m so happy with the way things were wrapped up and I am sad it’s over. I hope one day these characters and storyline will be revisited. Definitely recommend!
Daniel is a bow street runner who has just found out the truth about his father from his grandfather's will. Now he has to prove that he is the rightful heir to his father's estate instead of his half-brother. He gets help from Marcus Haverly. Lady Juliette and Daniel are in love but have not told her parents yet and are told they can't go public until after Daniel's case is heard. Lady Juliette also has to decide whether she wants to continue in the family business of being a spy for the crown. Through these tough decisions, crime doesn't wait. There is a murder or two and several street children go missing. Is there a connection? Daniel is on the case.
First of all, I must say, if you have not read the previous 2 books I highly recommend doing so before reading the third book. There is just a lot of background information that will help with the third. That being said, I have read the other two and I just love how this series has progressed. I love Juliette and Daniel. Not only are they an adorable couple but they are also so brave, kind and willing to risk their lives in order to help others. Once again, I didn't figure out who was behind the crime, which I love. The beginning was slightly slow for me, but by the 40% point we were rolling great, and the story was very interesting and engaging that I wanted to keep reading to see how it would all turn out. Also, there is a strong Christian message throughout, which I appreciate. Overall, a great read and I definitely recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.75
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Quite an impressive mystery! I love Cadogan’s role in the story. What a gem of a character! This was a great finale to the series, though I wish it would continue! I love the world Vetsch has created and how she weaves in characters from her past books. I also still want a spin-off series with Uncle Bertie. He is my favorite.
And here’s something funny: it’s book 3 in a series; I’d already DNFed book 2 because I felt it would merit from reading book 1 first/in order.
I did not feel the same here, haha! I mean, yes, I do think it’d be good to read the series in order (and I’ll be rectifying that pronto myself). But this book didn’t suffer from reading out of order as much as its predecessor did. And frankly, I was enjoying the read too darn much anyway; I wasn’t about to stop! Lol!
The characters are immensely likable, and I can’t wait to get to know them more throughout the series. There’s humor, romance, intrigue, and faith, and true depth of character, tough choices, and just plain life complexities on every page.
Very, very well done.
I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
The Thorndike and Swann series by Erica Vetsch has been an enjoyable branch from her Serendipity and Secrets collection. The latest edition, Children of the Shadows now makes six novels that bring adventure, romance, and discussions of faith to readers, all within the context of Regency England. While “happily ever afters” can be expected, the manner in which the story arrives at that conclusion is the main source of enjoyment within the story. Bow Street runner Daniel Swann is indeed in love with the debutante Juliette Thorndike, but the main focus of Children of the Shadows lies firmly in his work as an inspector. Through detective work, assistance from associates, and a strong dedication to the truth, Swann rights multiple wrongs in his community. Juliette also contributes, and their efforts bring justice and deliverance to street children and adult citizens alike.
Although sleuthing is the main theme of this mystery novel, it does contain an impressive number of subplots. Of course, there is the growing (and secret) romance of Daniel and Juliette. However, author Erica Vetsch also manages to address issues such as familial reconciliation, the noblesse oblige of certain privileged characters, espionage, class warfare, childhood victimization, and the nature of Christian prayer. While all of these topics are individually significant, Vetsch is able to address each in a fair and equitable manner, all the while maintaining a compelling narrative. This brought a vibrant energy to each chapter, as multiple factors would be at play at any given moment. For example, Daniel may be investigating a crime in one scene, while at the same time tangling with a family member over inheritance concerns. It was no wonder that he often went without food or sleep! There were many problems to address in his complicated world.
Because Children of the Shadows is categorized as Christian fiction, the content does suit that type of audience. Most discussions of faith revolve around praying for God’s will and helping those in need. The novel is not heavily theological, but these elements are presented as natural outgrowths of several characters’ lives. The criminal and immoral elements of the environment are presented realistically, but in a very “G-rated” manner which would be appropriate for all audiences. The romance is very sweet and genuine, but not titillating in its descriptions. Thorndike and Swann are young and clearly in love, but they put the other’s needs first in a very wholesome way.
Although I found the explosive conclusion of the previous novel Millstone of Doubt to be a bit more riveting, Children of the Shadows proved to be a delightful read and a fine addition to the collection of Vetsch novels. In it readers will find a compelling mystery, likable characters, dastardly villains, and themes of love and reconciliation. Children of the Shadows reminds us all that when we are given many blessings, it is incumbent upon us to share with others as God leads us to do. And as we follow His will for our lives, those around us will also be blessed.
"God didn’t make a mistake when He put me in this family. He knew what He was about, and I have no regrets."
"I have been given much in this world, and I feel much is required as a result. If I can help our nation and obey God at the same time, how can I say no?"
Children of the Shadows was a brilliant conclusion to a smashing good series!
This is one of those books that is so good, that it's honestly left me without words. I fully enjoyed this read, and am truly sorry this series has come to an end.
Juliette and Daniel were so sweet together, and it warmed your heart just to read about them.
Kudos to the author on a series that was so beautifully done!
My thanks to the publisher for the complimentary e-book I received through Netgalley to review. A positive review was not required of me, and the thoughts above are my own.
Content: none really other than a brief mention of a crowd drinking a champagne toast.
Let me start by saying the narrator for this wasn't very good. She would would read a line that sounded nothing like it should and her voices for the characters were pretty bad. But I wanted to finish this series and my library didn't have the third book in any format other then the audiobook.
This was a good conclusion to the series. One of the things I love is how Vetsch wove such a wonderful cast of characters and interconnected stories through the series. I made each installment more enjoyable because you got to know the world of these characters better each time.
What a satisfying conclusion to this series. Although I bemoaned the lack of romance, the mystery was captivating and well done. I enjoyed that this series brought to light many issues of the times. And the characters were all so wonderful!
This is my favorite series of all the Erica Vetsch books I have read. There is romance but so much more going on in these stories. There is murder, theft, intrigue, danger, and many questions to answer and cases to solve. These are some of the finest books among the many Christian novels I have read in my lifetime. They will appeal to a variety of interests from historical perspective and romance to mystery and intrigue. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Vetsch’s writing is intelligent and engaging. All of her books, including this most recent, are well researched to emulate the Regency era culture. I know I have mentioned before that I often learn a new word or two as I read her books. There is never any explicit content (no foul language, sex scenes, etc.) but her books are not short on evil characters, adventure and heart thumping story line.
Romance and mystery abound in this fantastic third installment of the Thorndike & Swann Regency Mysteries series! Erica Vetsch transports readers to the clashing worlds of the debutante social season and the dangerous London streets for a thoroughly entertaining mystery that spans both ballrooms and alleyways. Best of all, the romantic arc for Lady Juliette and Daniel picks up where the second book left off, and sparks fly as their romance flourishes! Lady Juliette took a backseat to the danger in some ways in this third book, but I appreciated the way it gave us a better look at her heart and soul as she reflected on her future and managed the social season while Daniel’s inheritance case unfolded. It was extremely well done, and it gave us a deeper look at her character as her relationship with Daniel progressed. The difficulties they faced in their relationship were extremely realistic for the time period, but I appreciate that the author didn’t use the miscommunication trope or had them fight and break up like so many books do when the couple starts off in love. They faced trials and overcame difficulties together, and it made the happily ever after so much sweeter in the end. This excellent story also reminds us how much God truly loves his children and has a plan and purpose for our lives. Even when things appear bleak, he shines as a light in the darkness and holds everything in his hands. What a sweet truth to be reminded of in a such an entertaining work of fiction! This book and this series are incredible, and I highly recommend all three novels to lovers of romance, mystery, and adventure set in the Regency period. I am so excited to see what Erica Vetsch writes next!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher for review purposes. My thoughts are my own. I really did love it!
I am so sad this series is over😞 I absolutely loved it, and I kind of hope the author will do another spin off series with other characters in this one. 😉
Children of the Shadows was hard to put down—in fact, I read it in one day 🫣 It was a bit different from the first two books. There were less spy moments and more focus on both Juliette’s and Daniel’s “normal” lives. I didn’t mind that so much. The plot never dragged for me. I found the mysteries surrounding the gambling house and the missing children intriguing. Speaking of the children…They were so adorable! I was so eager to have that part of the mystery solved because who wants poor innocents to be missing!? I was also impatient to find out what happened with Daniel’s inheritance. (No spoilers) The end was not at all what I expected, but I’m not complaining!
There was more faith content in this book, and I loved that. Charlotte Haverly had so much wise counsel to give. And, apparently, I missed the fact that she and other key side characters have their own books (from a previous series!) 👏I am now planning to read those😊
I definitely recommend reading this series in order though the author reiterates details. I’m sure if someone wanted to read this as a stand-alone they could, but they’d be missing out on important moments with these fabulous characters.
If you enjoy regency stories, mystery, adventure, and a dash of romance, you will really enjoy this series, too.
Content: murder, kidnapping, mentions of a reformed prostitute (not descriptive—honestly I’m not sure why that was even included in this story, because it was irrelevant to the plot)
What a marvelous ending to Erica Vetsch's Thorndike & Swann Regency Mysteries! This book can definitely be read as a stand-alone (though you'll love the other two books in the series too). In Children of the Shadows, Lady Juliette Thorndike and Daniel Swann have developed (as Jane Austen might say) a close attachment, though no official proposal has been made. Yet there are obstacles to the romance. In Regency England, Daniel would not be considered to be an appropriate suitor for Juliette, since he has no title nor estate. (Although, perhaps...)
But there is also the matter of their professions. Daniel, a Bow Street Runner, is investigating a murder, while discovering that there has also been a rash of disappearances of the street children who shine shoes, sweep streets, or sell flowers at specific locations. Suddenly, they're nowhere to be found. And meanwhile, Juliette has been asked to choose whether, like her parents, she will enter, officially, the spy business. Unfortunately, she has been so occupied with thoughts of Daniel, and his place (or not) in her life, she hasn't given the idea much thought.
Murder, kidnapping, false imprisonment, a disputed inheritance, secrecy...and love. Juliette and Daniel have much to solve and decide. Will their love endure though society may not approve?
I highly recommend Vetsch's Children of the Shadows! It is a delightful read that kept me up way past my bedtime one night. You'll adore and empathize with this book's winsome characters, and hope for a happy ending that doesn't seem all too likely. Read Juliette's and Daniel's story to see if it will happen for them!
I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions shared here are my own.
This book wraps up the amazing Thorndike and Swann Regency Mysteries series in a wonderful way! Daniel and Juliet stole my heart from the beginning of the series. I loved the unfolding of their sweet love story across the three books. Although this book can be read easily as a standalone, I recommend reading the other two books first for background info and an enhanced reading experience. All the books in the series are so good, but this is my favorite! A shining cast of characters bring the story to life. All the characters are so beautifully crafted that I hesitate to call any of them “secondary”! The cleverly plotted story with an authentic Regency setting, intriguing mystery, and inspiring faith lessons pulled me in from the beginning and kept me reading expectantly to the satisfying ending. I highly recommend this book especially for fans of Regency romance. I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I can truthfully say that I have not read a single book by Erica Vetsch that I did not enjoy. My one complaint is that each series must reach its end before I am ready to leave its characters behind. Once again I have reached the end of another series and no, I am not ready to leave Daniel and Juliette. I am quite certain that the two of them must have more adventures ahead of them. Perhaps a new series featuring the pair could be arranged (hint, hint?)
Children of the Shadows lives up to its mysterious title in every way. Daniel Swann is up to his eyeballs in trying to solve an important case while attempting to keep his superior on the force happy. Yet everywhere he turns he seems to hear about another street child who has vanished. Although that situation does not seem to be at all important to those in charge, Daniel and his team do what they can to learn what happened to the children. Little do they know that the disappearing children might just be connected with his current case. Daniel’s personal life has taken an interesting turn as well with family secrets including a contested inheritance revealed and his romantic relationship with Juliette that must be kept quiet at least until her parents return from a business trip.
To avoid revealing too much, I will just say that Children of the Shadows is filled with multiple plot twists and a big surprise or two that kept me up late because I had to know what happened next. As stated above, I love this author’s books and highly recommend that you read the entire series.

Children of the Shadows marks the final book in the Thorndike and Swann series. While that makes me so sad, I’m excited to read whatever series Vetsch writes next! Many of the books I share with you can be read as a standalone, but don’t do that with this series. You’ll miss way too much! I devoured these books quickly, so you can easily read them all in a week or two depending on what type of reader you are. I think they’re all really hard to put down!
As much as I love Juliette Thorndike, I think that having the focus mainly on Daniel Swann during Children of the Shadows made this my favorite novel in the series. The Debutante’s Code, the first book, was mainly about Juliette and her family’s secrets. In the second book, Millstone of Doubt, Juliette and Daniel share the spotlight as they solve the case together. However, the end becomes more about Daniel’s secret benefactor who’s been supporting him since childhood. Children of the Shadows reveals much more about Daniel, his benefactor, his mother, and more.
Daniel has harbored so much bitterness over the years that when he discovers the truth, he wrestles with being able to forgive the people in his past. As a child, he felt abandoned and unwanted, and he’s held onto all of the pain. Forgiveness is a hard thing for us. We allow it to fester inside and allow it to control our thoughts. Even when Daniel learned the truth, forgiveness was still hard. It was hard to just let go of his preconceived notions about why his mother sent him away as a child. I love how Vetsch “preaches” the gospel to us without preaching to us! She weaves it into the story naturally, and it is beautiful.
I was enthralled by Daniel’s investigation. It reveals lots of twists and turns and just totally unexpected stuff! I’ve loved getting to know the characters throughout this series. Juliette’s personality shines whenever she is around. I absolutely love Juliette’s uncle and the dowager who takes on the role of Juliette’s chaperone when her parents are away. Cranky old ladies are my favorites! I literally could type paragraphs about the magnificent characters in these novels. They each contain well-written side characters who only play a role in a particular book. I felt like I was in the dirty streets of Regency London as well as in the upper crust neighborhoods and townhouses where the wealthy and titled lived.
Children of the Shadows wraps up the Thorndike and Swann series so well! I was laughing. I was crying. Words just don’t do this novel justice. It’s beautiful, magnificent, convicting, exciting, and so much more all at once! I highly recommend it!

Well, it's hard to believe that Thorndike & Swann Regency Mysteries series is over...I've come to like the characters so I hate having to say goodbye to them. Anyway...
Children Of The Shadows was one twisty-turny mystery! Erica Vetsch had me guessing and second guessing myself all the way through. Which I find utterly fascinating as this third Thorndike & Swann Regency Mystery was also very much a Regency romance with all of the angst and glittering balls that one has come to expect from the genre. Erica Vetsch did a great job blending the mystery and Regency romance genres in a way that allows the spirit of each to shine through.
Another thing that I really enjoyed about Children Of The Shadows – and the rest of the series – is that a few familiar faces from Erica Vetsch's previous Regency mystery series make appearance in some expected and unexpected places...
If you haven't read Erica Vetsch's Thorndike & Swann Regency Mysteries series yet, you are missing out. They are all enjoyable reads, from book one to the exciting conclusion to the series in Children Of The Shadows, they are sure to entertain and intrigue for hours...

Wonderfully unexpected plot and delightfully satisfying conclusion to this clever slow-burn romance steeped in the early days of Bow Street and Regency espionage. I highly recommend this series!

Children of the Shadows by Erica Vetsch is the third and final book in the Thorndike and Swann series and exceeded every expectation I had of this story.
While you will not be lost if you have not read the previous books in the series, you will have a better understanding of Juliette and Daniel’s relationship if you do read those first. And if you’d really like to dive deep into the secondary characters (namely the Duke of Haverly and his wife), then Vetsch’s Serendipity & Secrets series is a must-read.
However, if your tbr is as large as mine and you don’t have the space to read the other books right now, Children of the Shadows is an engaging read with lots of intrigue that will keep you turning the pages long into the night. Vetsch balances the mystery, romance, and personal lives of her characters so well, I wanted everything to work out for Juliette and Daniel.
This story has everything I want in a series finale with all of the threads tied up well and an ending that not only satisfied but left me with a smile on my face.
